Kotosh Review - Lomita - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"On the Japanese side of this Peruvian-Japanese spot, stick with the sushi rolls (get the acevichado). For Peruvian, the lomo saltado is a must-order. The staff here is really friendly, and it’s a good spot for a casual, easy dinner." - Jess Basser Sanders

Delicious Peruvian restaurant! It's tucked away in a cozy strip mall. There is a small private parking lot. Upon entering, we were greeted by the friendly staff and quickly seated. There's a sushi bar with seating as well as plenty of tables. The ambience is nice and cozy with nice music. It's not too loud. The menu has two sections: Peruvian and Japanese. Both offer lots of options. Also has gluten free options. Our order was prepared quickly and everything was fresh and tasty. The presentation was also nice.

The food was good - flavoursome and delicious. The portion was quite large as well. The staff was nice and it was not very crowded in the evening.

Been coming here for over a decade. One of the hidden gems in the South Bay. Nothing fancy from the outside and the Interior has gone through a few renovations. Staff is as welcoming as ever and the food is delicious. My favorite dishes by far here are the Chicharron Mixto Al Ajo and the Tallarin Saltado. The green sauce is amazing here, I swear I almost finish a whole bottle everytime. I put that …. On everything. No joke. Chicharron is nice and crispy and a good mix of seafood from fish, squid, shrimp, and more. The garlic sauce is delicious. Though sometimes they make it a little too salty for me. But the crispy seafood, garlic sauce, rice, and green sauce to top it off is delicious. The Lomo Saltado is good, but I personally prefer the Tallarin Saltado. The noodles, onions, beef with green sauce is delicious. This boast we got the assorted sashimi. Excellent cuts and variety of fish. If you ever come with a large party, I recommend the chowders as well. Nice and creamy with lots of flavor.

This spot nails Peruvian-Japanese fusion. My husband is religiously loyal to the Lomo Saltado--according to him, it's the holy grail: great flavor, hearty portion, and best of all, they bring an entire bottle of the green sauce to the table (none of that tiny cup, pay-extra nonsense). I usually go for the seafood fried rice--can't remember the name, but it's always delicious and generously portioned (hello, doggy bag). If you've got room for dessert, try the helado de lúcuma--a tropical Peruvian ice cream with a SLIGHTLY mochi-like texture and a flavor that's oddly addictive. We always go during the quieter hours, and the service is as sweet as the dessert.

A wonderful place with amazing food, we came here because the kids wanted sushi rolls while the grownups wanted Peruvian food, the selection was amazing the rolls are very creative with a Peruvian flair, we tried the Acivochado roll which by the name you can tell what it is, it was absolutely amazing and the other dishes were also great. Overall great food, fast and friendly service and definitely affordable. Highly recommended.

Google
This is a great Peruvian Japanese fusion restaurant. We got the ceviche, the shrimp soup, the chiccorone mixto, Loma Soltado, and of course the Chica Morada. The service is great, we will definitely be back to try more of the Japanese dishes.

Google
Unique restaurant in the South Bay that offers Peruvian & Japanese food. In my opinion, it's less of a fusion and more of a place that just serves two types of food. Their Japanese food seems to just be American rolls. The taste was good, but nothing special. The service is friendly and fast. They sit in a plaza so there's free parking, although spaces can be somewhat limited. Prepare to pay $30-50 per person. Worth checking out.

The food here is absolutely incredible! I drive 80 minutes just to eat here—it’s 100% worth it every time. Carlos consistently provides outstanding service and truly exceptional customer care. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Kotosh offers an enticing journey into the flavors of Peru, where each dish tells a story of culinary mastery. During my visit, I had the pleasure of indulging in their Lomo Saltado and Arroz Chaufa, both of which left a lasting impression. The Lomo Saltado, while flavorful, received a rating of 3.5 out of 5. While it showcased the classic blend of tender beef, onions, and tomatoes, it lacked the wow factor I anticipated. However, the Arroz Chaufa stole the show with its perfect balance of flavors, earning a solid 5 out of 5. Each bite of the fragrant fried rice left me craving more, a true testament to its excellence. To complement the meal, I highly recommend trying the Peruvian Slur, a refreshing beverage that perfectly encapsulates the vibrancy of Peruvian flavors. In terms of service, Kotosh excels. The staff provided attentive and friendly service throughout the dining experience. Additionally, the green sauce served alongside the dishes proved to be a delightful accompaniment, enhancing the flavors with its tangy and herbaceous notes.

Yelp
I dined here with my sisters and their friend. Peruvian and sushi? Who knew. Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed the sushi and one Peruvian dish. Everything was fresh and expertly prepared. The service was prompt, friendly and attentive. I would like to go back and try more Peruvian dishes. The arroz con leche was excellent.

Yelp
Horrible service Came in for the first time. Never coming back again! My boyfriend's food came out first. I then asked for my food and they said I would have to wait 10 more minutes. My boyfriend finished his food and My food never came out I asked for my check and they still took forever to bring it out. I gave them a one star but I wouldn't even give them one star. The waiter then came and said I'm sorry I didn't realized you didn't have your food. I was like really. How can they not come and check on my service.

Yelp
Kotosh has been on my list to try, and I'm glad I finally did. It offers an enticing journey into the flavors of Peru, where each dish tells a story of culinary mastery. The spicing adds a delicious twist to sushi. In terms of service, Kotosh excels. The staff provided attentive and friendly service throughout the dining experience. Additionally, the green sauce served alongside the dishes proved to be a delightful accompaniment, enhancing the flavors with its tangy and herbaceous notes.

Yelp
This spot has always been consistent. It's been at least 8 yrs since Ive stepped foot in this establishment and the food was still good.. same flavor, same quality.

Yelp
We loved our visit at this modern Japanese Peruvian fusion restaurant in Lomita! The restaurant is located in a small plaza right next to the exotic bird and reptile store. Small storefront but once you go inside, it's l bigger than it seemed as there are seats in the back. Service was really great all around. They have a great selections of Japanese items (ie rolls, sushi, etc), Peruvian items (eg Lomo Saltado), drinks, and dessert. Two of us shared a lomo saltado (protein rice plate with tomato, onions, and fries) and roll. It was the perfect amount and so tasty. Yes would recommend!

Yelp
Love how they combined Peruvian and Japanese food. The food was great. I'm not really a raw fish eater but i actually had some sushi and liked it. Service was ok

Yelp
What more could you ask for from a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese! The food is absolutely amazing, a favorite was the Saltado the steak bits were perfectly cooked and tender! The chicharron Pescado was perfect to pair with the serving of white rice and the sushi was just fresh and amazing! The interior is nice and spacious with some TV's to watch any news or sporting events going on! The parking is in a small plaza so there it is easy to find parking. And the staff are all super friendly and helpful! Can't wait to come by and try out more of their selections! IG: Lovingyourtaste

Yelp
This restaurant is a cute little Japanese-Peruvian place in the South Bay! It is one of my favorite places to go for their variety of foods. The restaurant has a good amount of tables and the parking lot is a decent size. You usually don't need to make a reservation but I usually do just in case. The servers were also very kind and helpful. We ordered the Tiradito de yellowtail (similar to a yellowtail carpaccio), lomo saltado, and the deluxe sushi combo. It was my first time getting the tiradito de yellowtail and it was so good! It came with about 7 pieces of sashimi and was topped with garlic and had a yuzu ponzu sauce with chili oil. I loved how none of the flavors overpowered another and I could still taste the yellowtail. The lomo saltado is one of my go-to's and it's great with the green sauce on the side. The serving size is a good portion in my opinion with the rice and meat/onion/tomato mix. The sushi combo had a nice variety of nigiri sushis (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp, and imitation crab), you also get a choice of a 6-piece cut roll and we got the tuna roll. I would always recommend friends to Kotosh and love going back.

Yelp
Food is amazing here as well as the service. Came in and was immediately greeted. I ordered to go since I wanted to try it out. They also had a banging Playlist which I saw a sushi chef singing. Came here because of the guy at the card shop I go to. Will definitely come again when I'm hungrier
google avatar

Yelp
Wow the food was delicious! I ordered Samosas spinach and cheese very good! I also ordered the chicken plate with rice and Greek salad also very good! I ordered a side of their homemade hummus also very good! I will be back!!

Yelp
I'm recommending the Lomo Saltado as it's my favorite over the years. But recently I tried the Picante Mariscos. Spicy seafood tomatoey stew with white rice, yum. If you want sushi, here it's fresh, for example whether in a salad or as halibut sashimi. Jalea Mixta is a mountain of fried seafood on a plate. The plantains are nice and sweet. Chaufa fried rice when it arrives smells like heaven. Dishes on average costs twenty bucks. Your cozy corner is a passport to Peru.

Yelp
4 PM dinner in May. They've expanded! More tables in the back! Service was excellent. Servers were friendly & accommodating to our needs/allergies. Food came out in a timely manner. Fresh. Will go back more often...

Yelp
I have more time to write than a couple days ago. This place was awesome!! The miso soup was perfect, I loved the hand roll trio, and the lomo saltado was really tasty. Our group of kids and adults were high maintenance, and the waitress was super patient. We did have to ask for utensils, napkins, and soy sauce dishes. The food came out pretty quickly after ordering too, which is impressive for a weekend afternoon. Clean restaurant but surrounding area looks a bit rough, located in a small strip mall. Acoustics in the back room are very noisy, which didn't bother our also-loud group, but keep this in mind if you're seeking quiet or solitude.

Yelp
STEPH JUDGEMENT: OK sushi, excellent flan. I was in the mood for a sushi lunch while in the area and this place happened to be the most conveniently located with high ratings. The ambiance was very casual but also clean and pleasant. I got their sushi set combo, and while the fish was fine, the rice was a little too cold and hard for my taste. Still, it's a decent value for the amount of sushi you get, I think. On a whim I got a piece of their flan to go, and that was the best part of my meal! Maybe their Peruvian food is better than their Japanese food.

Yelp
I really like Kotosh, but I was put in hold for an indefinite period of time when I called. Tried calling back and did not get an answer. Disappointing.
google avatar

Yelp
The sushi here is top quality and the service even when busy is superb. The sushi chef remembers us even when we haven't been there in months/years. It's quite pricey so we go there only on special occasions. It was easier to go when my boyfriend worked down the street or earlier hours. The ambiance is always poppin. They are busy and crowded up to closing. I've never been during lunch but dinner always has a line waiting to be seated. Definitely worth the wait and the $$$

Yelp
A friend of mine introduced us to Kotosh. We're so glad he did! I highly recommend this restaurant! Especially if you like Japanese AND Peruvian cuisine. The fact that they serve both cuisines made me a bit skeptical. But they made me a believer that both can be achieved under the same roof. The restaurant and ambiance itself isn't anything special. Pretty average style restaurant. But, the food and service makes you easily overlook the aesthetics of the restaurant. The sushi is just as good as any other of my favorite sushi restaurants. The Peruvian is actually way better than what I thought good Peruvian food was. I've returned here three times now and there hasn't been anything that's disappointed me here. My favorite dish? The tallarin verde with chicken katsu. The best!!!! Don't hesitate to dine in or do take out here! The food is amazing!

Yelp
This place is a Gem here in Lomita. We went from coming here a lot with friends and family to coming here once in a while due to their prices have gone up quite a bit. For two people it's a lot. The food is great tho. Their sushi selection is great and very flavorful. The service is pretty good and very attentive. Love the new addition of space before it was a little tight and had to wait to be seated. Overall it's a great place would come for a nice dinner once in a while.

Yelp
I learned that there's a decent sized Japanese population in Peru, which is why Kotosh came to be! The service was great and waitress was very friendly. Though it did take us quite a while to get the check after our meal was done. The interior has been expanded to an adjacent building for more dining room, but you can tell the other side isn't decorated the same as the main dining area. Its quite bland and industrial gray. I was hoping to be blown away by the food but maybe it was just the day. Lomo Saltado beef was a little dry and fries weren't as flavorful. Maybe that is the style but it wasnt as good as other one's I've had. Cebocje Mixto was good, love the peruvian corn. Chicharron Mixto Al Ajo garlic sauce was good but the batter was quite soggy Don't let this review discourage you from trying though as I believe that I may have just come on a bad day.

Yelp
Did not have a great first impression of this place. When we first got it, we were told to sit wherever. Then they pointed us to a specific table that was in the middle of the walkway. I asked if we could choose a different spot and they said no because they wanted to save them for bigger groups... We said fine but never saw anyone else come in. Very annoying. The Ceviche de Pescado was fine but too acidic for me. Was not a fan. The slur and Macchu Piccu rolls were also ok. Did not feel fresh and way too much sauce. Personally wouldn't recommend. The decor was nothing special. Kind of looked like a sports bar.
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
This is like a Peruvian (Saltado) - Japanese (sushi) restaurant, where both items are just okay. Prices are high for the amount of food they give you. Won't be coming back, as there are better places to go for either cuisines ( El Pollo Inka (Peruvian) or Kotohiras (Japanese).
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
I placed an online order and visited the restaurant to pick it up. I was concerned when I saw that there was a B health score rating. I had the Tritado de Yellowtail and it did not taste fresh at all. It was $19 too! The lomo saltado was the worst I've had. The fries were soggy and inedible and there was barely any meat. Will not be coming back!

Yelp
Stopped by this place last month for my birthday while in Long Beach since a friend of mine recommended me this place. Who doesn't love a fusion between Japanese and Peruvian? This guy! We arrived right at dinner time and the place was initially pretty empty but started to fill up as soon as we got done ordering. Here's what we ordered: **Chicharron De Calamares: This dish was very bland and so was the dipping sauce that came with it. (0/5) **Lomo Saltado: Very delicious. Very solid lomo dish. I got it with the sirloin and it was fantastic! I wish their green sauce had more of a spicy kick but it wasn't too bad overall. (4/5) **Slur Roll: MY GF loves salmon and the combination of flavors were declicious. (4/5) **Fabulous Roll: There's nothing I love more than albacore and yellowtail. Everything about this roll was delicious even though I'm not the biggest fan of seared fish. (5/5) **Cuzqueña: My first time having a Peruvian beer. It was light and crisp, would 100% recommend with the dishes here. (5/5) Overall, the food was great. Our server was great and checked up on us very often. The sushi chefs did a really good job as well. 100% recommended if you're in the area! Oh, parking is a bit tight and it's tucked away so it's good to have gps while you find the place.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick lunch bite and decided to visit this highly rated Peruvian Japanese restaurant with a small sushi bar. [Parking]: Parking was super easy and the plaza has a free private parking lot. [Service & ambience]: I walked into the restaurant and decided to order a take-out. The staff said my order will be ready in 10 minutes and my order was actually ready in 7 minutes. No outdoor seating area, but benches are available. *** Lomo Saltado (sauteed strips of top sirloin, stir fried served with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, french fries and rice - $20): I could taste au jus on the bottom layer and it was good that only rice portion had au jus. Beef was cooked on the point and french fries was good too, but the star of this dish was certainly the killer green sauce - right spiciness and rich flavor. *** It was probably one of the best lomo saltado I have had and I like Kotosh much better than El Pollo Inka.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night at an off hour so there weren't many people there. Based on some yelp recommendations, I got the calamari and fried fish which definitely helped satisfy my Peruvian food craving. I was disappointed with the calamari. The calamari was overcooked and therefore really rubbery and chewy. The sauce was also pretty bland but had a nice touch of lemon which made it tolerable. The fish on the other hand was really tasty. It was freshly fried, and in a delicious sweet sauce. It was perfectly paired with the white rice and the aji verde (green sauce) was definitely a nice curveball that I found myself craving about every 3rd piece. Overall, I think this place has a lot of potential and either they don't do calamari well or just had a bad day. With how good the fish was, I'd be willing to try this restaurant again but sticking with a 3/5 for now!

Yelp
Kotosh is a go-to Japanese Peruvian restaurant in the South Bay. It's a cute little hole in the wall place that's been a go-to every since it's opened. Whether you're meeting up with a couple friends or feeling like going out to eat, this is the place to go to. It's very small though so be prepared to wait on a busy night. I personally love getting the sushi here. They have their special secret green sauce that I love putting on every dish I get here. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Parking is free and in front of the restaurant. I would recommend this place to other people.

Maria M.

Yelp
I went here for the first time yesterday. The food was amazing, the service exceptional, and the environment warm and welcoming. I definitely will be going back, and I highly recommend this unique establishment!

Yelp
Ordered on a Saturday night for pick up at 5:30pm, took 45 min for the food to be ready. When I walked in, it was pretty busy, almost every table was filled. Ordered the chaufa pollo, tastes amazing with the green sauce! Got two orders of the lomo saltado because that's one of their most popular dishes and it did not disappoint. The beef was flavorful and the fries were soaked in flavor - mmm! The salads and rolla were pretty standard, nothing too impressive. This was the 2nd time we've ordered from kotosh and we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Carlos V.

Yelp
Gave Kotosh a second chance and unfortunately it disappointed. We ordered the saltado de mariscos and it was flavorless. The lomo saltado was just ok. Even the ají wasn't very flavorful. Instead of using red onion they use regular onions for the saltado plates. The sushi poki roll was probably the best part of the meal.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend raves about this place and I can see why. We shared a whole bunch of dishes: Cebiche de pescado: so tasty and fresh Chupe de Camarones: Amazing. So rich and delicious. Loved it. Easily my favorite dish. Crispy spicy tuna sushi: very tasty Tonkatsu: seemed like a pretty traditional Japanese Tonkatsu but nothing special. Good potato salad. Chicharron Mixto al Ajo: the waitress said this was good and it was pretty good. Only thing is I was expecting since the dish has 'garlic' in the name that it would be super garlicky and the sauce was not that flavorful. But I just put Aji sauce on it and that made it better. Oh yeah, they have a squeeze bottle of Aji on the table and it's so tasty I could just eat it on plain rice (which I did). Though apparently it's mostly mayonnaise so maybe don't eat as much as I did. Service was good. Overall a good place depending on what you order.
google avatar

Johnny t.

Yelp
Overall this place was pretty good. Service was quick per my request since we were late on an appointment. Everything tasted great but lacked a certain idk... an OMG. shrimp chowder was great though. Must try Found this place to be a fusion between Japanese and Peruvian food. I love that. Not great enough to want to revisit though. But enjoyable one time try. Not pictured was the lomo saltado 7.8/10
google avatar

Tony Y.

Yelp
Lomo Saltado is one of my favorites, and the version they serve here is pretty good. However, I did notice that the sauce can get a tad too salty after a while. On the bright side, their fried rice and rolls were delicious! Service-wise, it was solid, especially considering we were a party of six. They included the tip in our bill, so make sure to double check your bill if you're here with a big party!
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! Kotosh is easy to miss while driving by, but definitely worth checking out. Both of the main dishes we ordered came out very fresh, fast, and with large portion size . The sauces on the pastas were well done and we enjoyed them very much. They have a wide selection of rolls to choose from, some with funny names. I would recommend the one I got if you like shiso flavor! I look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

Yelp
Solid Peruvian food, some of the best we've had in SoCal. Ceviche and lomo saltado was great. Tallarin and sushi were just ok. Calamari was too chewy. Overall we'd come back for the dishes we did like. Service was great.

Andrea E.

Yelp
Sad to say but it's not the first time experiencing horrible service here but somehow, we still come back because truly the food is good. Came on our one-hour lunch break, took the server 30 minutes to even take our order. Relatively a small establishment, one of the only other parties there so not busy @ all. It was the lack of attentiveness that was just super frustrating, the attitude from our first server was just unnecessary. After an entire hour we asked on an update on our food only to be told our original order never went through because their Wi-Fi went out so it would still take even longer for our food to be ready. Okay? Was anyone going to let us know? Decided to leave without eating because we had to return to work. The second server was nice enough to give us a fraction of the food that was already cooked because they were going to "throw it away anyways" but that was beside the point. I didn't even have my Tallarin a la Huancaina. Be better Kotosh, be better.
google avatar

Doug E.

Yelp
Good place for Peuvian/Japanese food! Service is good to very good. Their sushi is actually better than a lot of other places in the South Bay. Their Green Sauce tastes better than the other Peruvian places. My favorite dish is the Spaghetti with chicken.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Did you know that Peru has the second largest ethnic Japanese population in South America after Brazil? Although the Japanese community constitutes approximately only 0.1% of the population of Peru, they have made an important influence through Nikkei cuisine which fuses Peruvian and Japanese cuisine. A local Japanese Peruvian restaurant you must check out is Kotosh located in Lomita! Their service is great and food is amazing. I love coming here with my friends for a delicious meal while enjoying some refreshing Japanese beer. Hot tip: Drizzle the aji verde sauce (spicy Peruvian green sauce) on anything and everything! It amplifies and elevates every dish. Instagram: @jessgoeat

Yelp
I had been to a couple Peruvian restaurants prior to trying Kotosh. I knew I liked the style of food but had yet to enjoy anything worth coming back for seconds. My wife and I immediately fell in love with Kotosh. We had this boiled potato appetizer that had a sauce I still dream about to this day. Their saltados are amazing and I also frequent their arroz chaufa. When I used to drink I appreciated their beer selection. And save room for their cookies. Still don't know what is exactly in them. But I never leave without a couple.

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD Omg!!! first time to try this place everything was so so good and tasty cannot wait to go back

Yelp
I love this place so much! They used to have a location in Manhattan beach (it closed during Covid). This is my first time to the original location and wowwww have a missed this. The Peruvian slur is my absolute favorite sushi roll - maybe even of all time. My husband always gets the lomo saltado and has never not loved every single bite. They really do everything 100%. Thank you for incredible service, delicious food and a great date night meal

Yelp
Hi I'm a master chef in French , Italian and Japanese.. I was having so many compliments about this restaurant so I gave it a try.. Usually I'm starting with oshinko - assorted pickled veggies...but they didn't have so I've ordered sashimi... Look at that sad plating and the fish.. They are using sushi cut instead of sashmi cut. Yes. Game is over. Just paid it and walked out... also their servers are super rude and ignorant also language barrier.... Definitely no go place in Torrance area...

Yelp
The food was DELICIOUS! The service was great and the green sauce was so so good! We got a roll, a mixto plate and lomo saltado and it was all so good!

Yelp
oh my god, this is now 1 of my fav restaurants in the S Bay. after years of procrastination (& listening to friends saying how great it is), I finally checked it to see what the hype was all about. they opened at 11, I walked in around 11:15 to get a table and the fishmonger came in right behind me with the day's catch, so you know the fish is fresh!! the yellowtail carpacio was divine & the tofu salad is my go-to now. my friend orders shrimp saltado every time she visits. def next time I want to try their Peruvian style tuna sashimi :). p.s. I also had their Parihuela (seafood soup) & I have no idea what's in there but it was one of the best soups I've ever had. period.
google avatar

Beatrice T.

Yelp
This is an excellent Japanese/Peruvian place. The Lomo Saltado had great authentic flavor and the Aji Verde was the bomb. The Choros were very tasty and the Tiradito de Atun was excellent. The service was very good, especially after my boyfriend and one server noticed they were both from Lima. I would definitely come back to Kotosh!
google avatar

Ki R.

Yelp
I ordered here a few times, and for Peruvian, the sushi is good. It isn't exceptional, but good, and I'm glad I tried it. Also, I ordered through grubhub a couple of times, and the quality stayed the same, I appreciate this. The usual for me is the there ceviche, lomo saltado, and a roll or two. This place is quite small, and if you're planning larger group outings, it won't work for you. Service is great and the people are very friendly. Thank God for Lomo and ceviche. Delicious! Enjoy.
google avatar

Tonette A.

Yelp
Great food. Their sushi rolls are my favorite thing on their menu. It looks very small when you walk in the door, but they do have another dining room in the back. Service has been a little slow a couple of times I was there, but not every time. Staff is friendly.

Yelp
Food is delicious, definitely enjoyed the Lomo Saltado and the noodles, they all taste good. The green sauce that they offer is creamy and delicious, ask for the bottle. Service is quick, there are more tables in the back. Ambiance of restaurant is nice and clean.
