"Kotta Sushi Lounge will open its second outpost in a 4,000 square foot space at the Union. Originally opened in Frisco, the restaurant serves up sushi rolls and Japanese dishes like wasabi pepper chicken and miso-glazed sea bass. In addition to the eats, Kotta will also offer a full bar." - Amy McCarthy

Was in the mood for sushi and I have been here once before a few years ago. Went early and it was happy hour still so I got a few different rolls at good prices. The ingredients are very fresh and everything comes out quick. The service is wonderful and treats you well (I was the only one in at the time however). This is a fairly typical modern sushi bar. Nothing special moody lighting and a big sushi bar to sit at. It’s a surprise for Frisco, TX.

The food at Kotta Sushi Lounge was really good. Tried a variety of dishes. Avocado and Cucumber Rolls were nice and fresh. Dayna Roll was a really creative roll. Never seen or had anything like it so it was nice to see a sushi restaurant that has a creative option for vegetarians (Most places only have just a simple vegetable roll). Garden noodles were very tasty and flavorful. For dessert tried the chocolate mouse cake which was most and delicious and green tea ice cream which was nice and creamy. In addition to the food, service and atmosphere was excellent. Definitely will be back.

We had a fantastic experience at Kotta Sushi! The service was top-notch—friendly and attentive. The sushi rolls were fresh and flavorful, with the Jackie Chan and Spring Fever rolls being absolute standouts. They were perfectly crafted and delicious. The decor and ambiance also made for a perfect date night, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The only downside was the Banana Foster dessert. It wasn’t quite up to par, as the chocolate sauce overpowered the flavor and there weren’t enough bananas for the price. That said, everything else was spot on, and we’ll definitely be back!

Dined in for lunch and it was great!! Bento box and sushi’s were so tasty and fresh. Service was quick and attentive, my waters were always filled up and they prebussed all our dirty plates when possible. I do miss the oranges they used to serve with the bento boxes though. Highly recommend!

Google
Today was our first time to Kotta, and we loved it. We were grateful for the dog-friendly patio. The fish was of extremely high quality! (in a town that is not necessarily known for this). And our waitress Lila was delightful—-we will definitely be back!

I have been enjoying Kotta's food for several years now. It has always been very delicious experience. However I can say service was better before. There are so many different amazing sushi rolls at the menu. At the weekends I suggest you to make reservations before going.

I was recommended Kotta sushi by (someone I thought was) my friend and could not have been more let down. Let's start with the interior- what an absolute eyesore. The holes in the ceiling and the faded and seemingly vandalized wood surrounding the host stand were quite the warm welcome. Still, I am no stranger to hole in the wall charm so I remained hopeful. Unfortunately that was a mistake. The sushi was overpriced and poor quality, reminiscent of something you might find in a Kroger. The toppings on my nacho roll were so sparse I thought maybe there was an upcoming shortage. The gentleman who was seemingly the owner came to our table to chat for far too long, showing us pictures on his phone as if we had a care in the world. I don't know what he was under the influence of, but I recommend he seeks help. Despite living minutes away I will be enjoying sushi elsewhere. Such a shame considering what great things I've heard about the place over the years, must be some kind of new management dragging things down. Oh well, I'll stick with blue fish, uchi and the likes and recommend you do too.

Google
The food and service was amazing! I love the yellowtail roll and the guns and roses roll. I ordered the gluten free guns and roses but it still had rice in it. The roll was delicious regardless! The drinks were ok. Additionally, the service was very attentive. I will definitely be back soon!

John J.

Yelp
The sushi continues to impress, but if you're in the mood for drinks, I'd recommend heading next door. The quality of Kotta's drinks has noticeably declined recently, and on busy nights, it can take far too long to get your drink order. When I inquired about the long wait for drinks, I was informed that the owner had made a change in bartenders, and it hasn't been going smoothly. I couldn't agree more with that assessment.

Yelp
We came in for my bday lunch today. I've been eyeing this place for awhile on FB but never had a chance to try it. It's hidden in a shopping center I never knew had all of these great places very close to where I frequent daily. We ordered tuna and shrimp nigiri which was great! Also, salmon sashimi - divine. My daughter ordered the Louisiana Roll. I had the spider and Guns N Roses. All of the food was delicious! Service was great, very attentive and it was a cool vibe atmosphere. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Our go to favorite sushi spot for dine in or delivery. Service is great and food is always fresh and amazing!!

Yelp
Went here for lunch. We got the white tiger role and the sushi sampler, lunch portion. The roll was really yummy. I would def get it again. The sampler was a variety of sashimi doused in Jackie Chan? Sauce. Honestly all we could taste was the sauce. The flavor was overwhelming. So sad. The sauce should have been served as a dip on the side. Finished off with a Hawaiian style roll as a palette cleanser.

Kristina M.

Yelp
Always five stars for me at this place! This is my go to sushi place in the north Texas area. The quality of fish is superb, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is an upscale feel, but casual and welcoming too. Also the music is fantastic and the bar area is my fav. Leah was very attentive and met every need I had as the bartender and server. I've been coming here since 2006 and have never been disappointed. See you next time!

Matt P.

Yelp
Frisco's Japanese spots are always coming in clutch. We came here for a family birthday and they sat us right in the middle of the restaurant. A great vantage point or the young ones to look around, with close vicinity to the sushi bar. The fact that they have a "Guns n Roses" roll showcases how relevant and cool this spot has become.

Kaitlyn S.

Yelp
We ordered wrong, honestly. So, we need to go back and try again! What we ordered: * Volcano Roll * Spider roll * Kotta Tower * Edamame * Margarita Tips: We didn't make a reservation and should have. They were able to get us in at the sushi bar which was cool to watch but left us kind of out of sight of the server. Definitely make a reservation! We also should've ordered the Kotta Roll - it looked fabulous! After seeing some of the other dishes, it was clear we ordered poorly. The inside is darn and dimly light which is a romantic vibe. And while it was loud, it was still easy to have a conversation. It's not the best sushi in DFW but for not traveling into Dallas proper, it was quite good! Will definitely try again!

Afrin K.

Yelp
Overall nice place for sushi. Ordered many rolls and their sashimi plate ($50). The quality of fish was good and inside decor was inviting. The service was great and our waiter kindly recommended items on the menu. My one complaint was the price of sushi compared to surrounding areas, and perhaps not worth it given the price.

Jenny C.

Yelp
Stopped in for happy hour a few minutes early. We were seated promptly in the bar area by request. We had to ask for the happy hour menu which can be annoying at first. The service was VERY attentive to the point where we wanted to just enjoy the food rather than being asked if we wanted anything else constantly. Almost felt as if we were getting rushed out. I do appreciate the wine sampling and their recommendation which is the choice I went with. I did request tobiko to the specialty role which they forgot. Kind of interesting given how attentive they were. The food was good, experience was meh.

David S.

Yelp
A very nice and soothing atmosphere which contributes to the overall dining experience. The menu features many delicious items and is extensive. All the fish was fresh and well prepared and comes in every combination you would find at an upscale Japanese restaurant. I am highly recommending coming here when you need a sushi fix.

Tracie J.

Yelp
Stopped in here on luck of being in the shopping center and it was wonderful. The atmosphere and staff were top notch. The food was delicious one of the better sushi places I've been to! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
While waiting for my $75 to go order I went to the bar and ordered a glass of wine. Of the 3 options to select from on the menu with Sauvignon blanc, two of which only offered a glass option, I chose the more Marlborough $13 glass (vs the cheaper us brand). The bartender poured maybe two sips and handed me the bill which stated $21 for the glass and almost $4 service fee. When I asked what the wine glass charge was from, he interjected back, that's for the cloud bay Sauvignon. I pointed to the menu where this was labeled as bottle only (with no price listed for the glass), and told him sure but I didn't order that, I ordered the whitehaven. He shrugged his shoulders and with an attitude said yah the one you ordered we don't even serve in glass so we input a new amount for the more expensive one. When I asked him why he didn't ask me first or atleast tell me that before opting for the upgrade since this isn't even an option on the menu, he dismissed my concern and said that's how theyve always done it,, as if I'm the wrong for asking why my bill was overcharged without consent. If I knew they would charge me that much for a glass of wine, I would have selected another option on the menu with a more reasonable price point. I also don't understand why I'm forced to a mandated $4 service fee being I just order to go, was waiting on the kitchen to prepare my food, and left a tip for the hostess even though I was picking it up. When I asked the hostess if I could speak to a manger, she said they are either not her or they aren't available. I asked her to go check and when she came back with my food, I told her what happened and gave me the "I can't help you" reaction. Then, to make matters worse, I didn't even receive my full order. I was missing the $15 appetizer I asked for, which was not crossed off on the ticket to show it was placed in the bag. I missed this detail in the midst of telling the hostess the wine menu discrepancy and left without my order being checked. I used to love this place but over the last year, I've noticed service and health conditions have been sub par. Now with the price gouging and missing order items (second time this happened), I am officially done with ordering from here. It's not worth the money or the food quality. Not sure if it's new management but something has been off with this place and I've officially had enough.

Yelp
I was researching sushi places in DFW for my birthday dinner and this place had raving reviews, so we made a reservation (which I recommend) and I'm so happy we came!! We got 7 sushi dishes and 3 entrees and everything was so fresh and delicious. There were some vegan options as well! My family has eaten a lot of sushi, and this was some of the best I've tasted in the area. I loved the ambiance, lighting, white table cloths and candles. Perfect for a date night or nice night out! It was my birthday and they gave me a free dessert:). Such a great experience!

Abby A.

Yelp
Kotta was delicious! I tried the TDF roll which was fantastic. Our server was super friendly and helpful. I also ordered edamame which was pretty standard compared to other sushi places. The only reason I knock off a star is because I would have really liked to order a side of fried rice with my sushi. Hopefully they can add that option soon!

Yelp
Ask to sit high top a couple weeks ago. Young manager at the front, he shook his head no and brought me to dining. Which I have no issue with if it's reserved I get it. I got a waitress who would not stop touching me and I could barely understand her. I ordered my food waited a long time for my sushi to come out. Went thirsty for about thirty minutes as my waitress also never gave me more water even after I asked. I paid, tipped even though my service was horrible to put it nicely. Then went to the bartender to see how to reserve it because I did not want to come back if I was going to be forced into the dinning area again for reasons stated above. I talked with the bartender after eating and when I asked if it was reserved he laughed as he thought I was joking and when I explained what happened he let me know the bar has never been reserved and thanked me for letting him know what was going on. We talked for a minute about everything that had happened to me that night. Went back the other night went straight to the bar. Amazing service, food was great and came out promptly. It felt like I was eating at a completely different restaurant compared to my previous experince. Sometimes one good person can make all the difference!! Will be back many times!! I don't normally write reviews, but this guy 5 stars!

Yelp
Been wanting to come here and finally came. We ended up sitting in the bar area. We started off with crab rangoon. It was delicious with the sauce thst came with it. My sister and I decided to split the Ranger Roll and the Nacho roll. The Nacho roll was my favorite although next time I'll leave out the tobiko. It was so good though with plenty of crab meat, cream cheese, jalapeño in the inside, pablnko fried and topped with yummy goodness of spicy tuna and spicy crab. It was really good and fresh. The ranger roll consisted of tempura shrimp on the side, cream cheese, jalapeño, topped with seared Cajun salmon, crawfish served with a spring salad. Service was really good as well. We are definitely coming back.

Reba G.

Yelp
This cute restaurant is nestled inside the complex of a very busy area, so parking can be a little difficult especially if it is really busy. We wanted to try this restaurant. We started off with the crab rangoon as an appetizer, and it was really good. It was a little heavy in the cream cheese but still pretty good. We decided on splitting the nacho roll and the ranger. Nacho roll had crab, cream cheese, jalapeno, panko fried topped with spicy tuna, spicy crab, tobiko, sweet Thai chili sauce, spicy Mayo eel sauce. The Ranger had tempura shrimp, cream cheese, jalapeno, topped with a Cajun seared salmon, Mardi Gras crayfish, served with sweet chili Thai sauce. Out of the two, the nacho roll was my favorite. Service wad pretty good considering how busy it was. I'll definitely come back when I'm in the area. There were some bars around there I want to check out.

Chelsea R.

Yelp
Wow - let's update this one 12 years later!! YET and still it is fantastic and I'll even go as far as bumping it up to 5 stars. I low key wandered in here because I was starving after the gym. Every once in while I have space in my bachelorette budget for some quality sushi. The salmon here is always exceptionally fresh and I do enjoy their extensive wine list. I think sticking to the sushi dishes will be your best bet but they also have some other items if that is not your forte. This is perfect for a date, clients to impress, or a girls night. Very intimate and elegant yet low key. Plus open all day until 9PM all days of the week is a definite plus. Very attentive service also. Cheers to sushi goodness and enjoy.

Savannah H.

Yelp
Rainbow roll, spider roll, Hawaiian roll.... 10/10. The service was amazing, Saturday night and no wait for the sushi bar. Waiter was awesome and the ambiance was incredible. Defiantly coming back!

Bruce C.

Yelp
This is by far our favorite sushi spot in Frisco! We have frequented many times, and it never fails to amaze! The ambiance is beautiful and romantic for a date, but they are always welcoming for families too.

Garrett B.

Yelp
Great selection + tremendous quality. We had the French roll and the Rainbow roll and they were both incredible. The fried rice was the best I've ever had and so was the Calamari. Great service even on a very busy Friday night. Would definitely recommend!

Joshua D.

Yelp
I got the large combo Bento box which included shrimp and vegetable tempura, large quantity of beef and chicken teriyaki, white rice, 4 California rolls, salad, Ginger, wasabi and soy sauce.Very well seasoned, food was very tasty and great service.

Patty T.

Yelp
DO NOT come here after 8:00 even though they close at 9:30. Size of the rolls is mini and they don't want customers after this time.

Bri M.

Yelp
Consistently good food and service. Their menu recommendations are always spot on. Love this place!

Kathy S.

Yelp
Delicious food with attentive service in an elevated atmosphere. We met a friend there and had an enjoyable experience. Plan to go back.

Robin H.

Yelp
The ambience is lovely. The service was exceptional. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is the prices are way too high! All our rolls were perfect and the drinks were super yummy!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Have gone to Kotta Sushi for over 10 years and it's the BEST in the Dallas area! Always great food and service. I highly recommend

Kim W.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place. We were so disappointed by the service. We are from out of town, made a reservation for the Sushi Bar, thinking that the sushi Chefs would be serving us. We arrived to a line at the door and were seated quickly at the bar. It seemed no one wanted to sit at the bar. Now, we know why. The service was terrible. Call out to our Sushi Chef, he "broke" the rules and took our order AND gave us extra bits of fish. He was terrific under the circumstances. The waiter told us to order directly from the waiter not the Sushi chef. We have never been to a Sushi Bar where we order ONLY from the waiter and not the Sushi chef. I am disappointed and frustrated at our meal and experience at this restaurant. We did let our waiter know about our feelings and disappointment and that we would be posting a review on YELP and there was no attempt to make things right.

Claudia T.

Yelp
Very disappointed at the service with the new manager. When the Owner is around, things are different. We went to dine before 6 and were told there were "so many reservations" they couldn't sit us at the main dining room. We were asked to sit by the bar (prob to help the bartender make his $) while the entire dining area was empty. When we left after the hour, the only explanation we were given is that reservations were made for later but they can't control when people leave and that why they are willing to leave the dining room open while EVERYONE else was crammed in the bar area. How stupid is that? We were told the policy is to book tables for "1 hour" and we arrived BEFORE the hour policy. So again, not right way of explaining things but the Manager seemed to be to be too hardheaded to understand that.

Mina C.

Yelp
Went to Kottas last week after not having being there in long time. We were told that they only had a chef-in-training working - no full time regular chef - and that only certain menu items were available. Sushi was okay - certainly not as good as they used to be and not worth what we paid. We will not be returning.

Sheila R.

Yelp
Nice sushi lounge in Frisco. We came for lunch...bento box specials were great. Small or large with th he difference of a 4 piece California roll. Mixed pakora, sushi pieces, small salad...all was fresh. Miso soup on request. Fast and friendly service.

Stephen B.

Yelp
The atmosphere was very cool - it's unlike any other sushi spot I've been to. The food was super fresh! I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the Frisco area.

Don S.

Yelp
My wife and I went for our second time last night and it was just as good as the first. Service was great both times. It has a nice comfortable upscale type feel even though the prices are very reasonable. Although the food was great both times I think this time I found my new favorite roll which was Caribbean something on the special menu.(sorry forgot the exact name). We also tried the six spices sashimi appetizer and it was great.

Melody T.

Yelp
This hidden gem is absolutely amazing! If you are in the mood for sushi I definitely recommend coming to this place, the service is outstanding, the food is perfectly prepared, and everything is served fresh! From appetizers of edamame, sushi rolls, Asian noodle pasta dishes, steak, and fried rice... you name it they got it! If you are looking just to come by yourself or entertain a big group this place can definitely accommodate! Come, eat, and leave happy!

Sheshu P.

Yelp
Tried the lunch break to box. I tried the sashimi bento fish was very fresh, also tried shrimp teriyaki very delicious and combination bento. Everything was well made.

Benjamin W.

Yelp
Only because of the missed communication in the kitchen. Kotta Sushi. Is......... not going to be 5 stars. Shellfish allergies are nothing to play around with. Luckily, no one got hurt.

Zak W.

Yelp
Love the food here! Highly recommend the sea bass and all the sushi is very delicious and fresh. Rice is next level!

Sharon S.

Yelp
Absolutely a repeat dinner spot for my man and I. Love the six spice sashimi appetizer. Service, ambiance and food is always spectacular. Gets crazy busy which is the only downside.

John P.

Yelp
If you dine in, ask for Daniela! I had her as my server and she was fantastic. Excellent service. Very attentive and knows the menu very well. Will definitely be coming back soon. Spider roll is very good and all of the raw sushi is fresh and rich.

Lara C.

Yelp
I've ordered Togo a few times and the food is good but seems overpriced. They took my order on Saturday before opening around 1145 and promised it'd be ready by 12:20 but they did not prioritize my order and I ended up waiting an extra 20 minutes in the restaurant after the pickup time. It's pretty disappointing that they made an excuse that in dining got busy, seems irrelevant if they took the order before the restaurant opened. The restaurant was busy and they definitely did not social distance in the dining room- it felt unsafe waiting in the restaurant.

Mike M.

Yelp
Hope last night's visit was a one-time thing. Service was way off. Items came out very far apart - the last course (nigiri) probably took close to 40 minutes (wonder if it was forgotten). We never received the fried rice we ordered (and waitress even wrote down). Waitress asked us a couple of times what items we'd ordered had been brought to the table. Quality seemed to be very good, but not great. This has been our sushi go to for years (decades). Sorry to see this and, again, hope it was just a last night thing.

Lisa L.

Yelp
Kotta never disappoints! My fav sushi in the area. It has a very nice bar, strong service and just the right size dining area. Outside patio is fun in good weather. Favorite dishes are Jackie Chan rolls and Bananas Foster dessert.

Brooke L.

Yelp
Great sushi spot and has some creative flavors. The creative flavors are not the kind you regret ordering later either. THE SERVICE IS FANTASTIC! The owner is amazing! I was just going to grab something to go and I ended up staying! I will definitely be back!

Jake D.

Yelp
We have been trying to pop in and eat here for a few months (mostly on the weekends) but have never been able to get a table without a long wait. I now realize why! They have a great selection on their menu - try the samurai roll. My 6 year olds review - "I love this place, please come. We really like this place. It's a Japanese YUM!"

Melissa E.

Yelp
We didn't have reservations and it was kinda busy but Tim was able to get us a table! It wasn't the best table so when a better table became available he moved us over. Great customer service!! The food was also really good!! You could tell the fish was fresh and the ingredients were great quality.

Monica H.

Yelp
The quality of the food has gone down some in the last couple years, but still on our list of places we like.

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Definitely one if my favorite Sushi spots in Frisco! Must try the Phoenix Roll and the Ranger Roll! The Kotta Tower is also one of my favorite towers in Dallas! Even currently, they're service is grade A and they're practicing social distance dining. I felt very comfortable there and everything was superb.

Jamie B.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi in Frisco! I eat here at least once a week, usually for lunch. Dinner can get really busy and sometimes unable to get in if you don't have a reservation. Service is always on point and have never had a bad food experience. I love their variety of rolls. Their regular menu is excellent too.
