Udon noodles, rice dishes & other refined Japanese eats are the draw at this compact, stylish venue.
"Deliciously warming, nourishing, and filling atsu-atsu aside, Koya’s location in Bloomberg Arcade is completely covered thanks to the wonders of modern architecture. Outside of a particularly spiteful wind, nothing will get in the way of you and your hand-pulled udon. The tempura is definitely worth ordering too. As is the tonkatsu." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"Lunchtime in the City can be dangerous. Take cover in Koya. This Japanese spot in the Bloomberg Arcade specialises in noodles and most of their hot udon dishes come in around the £15 mark. If you’re not one for udon, they also do sticky donburi and small plates like crispy fried prawn heads. Grab a solo seat at the bar or bring a pal and split the kakuni (braised pork belly with cider). Whatever you do, finish up with one of their many sakes, you know, for your safety." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"If you’re hankering for a bowl of nourishing and familiar pre-2020 capitalism then heading into The City should do the trick. Whilst you and your colleagues’ eyes well up with nostalgia at the glinting exterior of empty WeWorks and the troubling image of tumbleweed-filled Prets, consider stopping by at Koya for a bowl of udon to settle your unease. Their City branch, in the spaceship that it is Bloomberg Arcade, has a menu that’s perfect for part-sharing and part-not - sort of like conversation with your colleagues. There’s hot and cold hand-pulled udon, donburi rice bowls, and nibbly bits like pickled vegetables or tempura." - jake missing
"The City outpost of Koya is a killer spot for a meal that involves a bowl of steaming curry atsu-atsu and your face. Other people are of course welcome, but the beauty of a meal at Koya is that a bowl of udon and broth is meant for you and just you. Of course we’d recommend sharing the evening-only tonkatsu as well, but if you’re looking for a Monday meal with a bowl of goodness, then this Japanese spot is the place." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
