"The Lakeview space recently vacated by Koz’s will be the location for the new deli. Koz’s closed last week after nine years at the location so that the owner could go back to school and pursue another career. The original Koz’s in Harahan remains open." - Stephanie Carter

Found Koz’s after stopping at Donovan marine next door. Had a piece of fried red fish and a bowl of red beans and rice. Both were excellent - a liberal dose of a local hot sauce was applied. The corn bread was dry and not something I would order again but I would come back for sure.

I heard about their Cuban sandwich. So I stopped in to try it. I was impressed. I love a family owned and ran eatery like this. Locals talking to the cooks. Everyone knew each other and you should have seen the fried chicken coming out of the kitchen!!

Google
I visited Koz’s twice so far. My first time where I ordered a po’boy, a second time where I ordered fried chicken. Two very different qualities of food. My first visit I ordered the shrimp po’boy with an order of fries and blueberry cobbler. The french bread was fresh and soft. Not crunchiness like plenty of other spots. The shrimp were freshly paired and seasoned to perfection. Hand down on the top 5 best shrimp po’boys I’ve ever had. The fries were also freshly fried. The blueberry cobbler was delightful. The second visit was a to-go order of fries chicken, mac’n’cheese, and potatoes with gravy. The chicken was horrible. It seems to have been fried in cornmeal and flour and no seasoning. But the most horrible part was the chicken was burnt and fried in old grease. That’s wrong on every level. The potatoes were clearly from a box and not from fresh potatoes. There was no attempt to mask that. The mac’n’cheese wasn’t that. It was spaghetti with cheese served at a 1/2 cup, maybe less. It was less than room temperature and lacked flavors. The lack of consistent product quality is a big issues for me as a food lover. Koz’s is a spot worth checking out for the sandwiches once for sure. I can’t recommend them, but I am willing to try something else off of the menu from them (I will dine-in to voice any quality issues) one more time. If it is horrible again, this spot will be a no-go for good.

Four different entrees and we loved them all. Very good, casual lunch place.

This will always be our go to for the half and half poboy loaf!!! So good!!!! The wait time is ok because it is made to order!!!

Google
Gentleman that took my order over the phone was very helpful and professional. My order was ready when I arrived to pick it up just over 10 minutes later and the food was delicious. I ordered a fried shrimp poboy and the bread was super fresh, the shrimp were perfectly cooked and seasoned, nice size and well portioned. I also ordered a side of fries and they were plentiful, crispy and well seasoned. Highly recommend. Great neighborhood spot!

Google
Best bbq ham poboy in the world! Onions rings are spectacular! Friendly owner friendly staff. Very clean and well run restaurant

The people are really nice, and the food is in the style of home cooking. It is small and very popular in the neighborhood, so go early. Me and my guys eat lunch here often. We have never left hungry or disappointed!

Yelp
The Chamber of Horrors is my absolute favorite sandwich ever! It's just a cold sandwich stacked with sliced meats and cheese and lettuce, tomato, etc. but it strikes a chord with me. Every time I go I tell myself to try something different but most times I wind up getting one. And a side of fries. I have tried other things and have never found anything to complain about. Koz's is a great example of the neighborhood restaurants that are scattered throughout New Orleans and the area. Place has been there forever. The family is running the business. He has passed away, but Koz himself was running the cash register every time I went there. Same crowd of regulars and locals is in there every day. A wide variety of menu items, daily specials, plate lunches, po-boys, fried seafood, and all that. Not all of it is good, but for the most part it is. Downsides - the place is old so it is a little dark and dingy. It gets crowded at times and then the service gets slow. The parking is scarce around but you can usually find a spot. Give them a shot. This is one place that I keep going back to. (If I want a Chamber of Horrors I do!)

Yelp
Poboys and specials. Excellent service. Casual setting. All the basics you would love for lunch. Fresh French bread. Lots of options at a reasonable price.

Judy Penner W.

Yelp
This is a WORTHWHILE destination. Hubby was craving fried shrimp ( 2 days after Thanksgiving - go figure). We were in Elmwood so we made a beeline for Koz's. I got the poboy, he got the plate. We got a side of onion rings. OMG. Crazy good. Thin ribbons of fried onion goodness. The poboy was perfection and DH was more than happy with his choice. This place is so reminiscent of the family jernts we grew up going to. So incredibly glad its real and not just a memory like so many of the others. Do yourself a favor, just go. You're welcome.

Morgan V.

Yelp
Not great. Very dry roast beef. Hardly any toppings even though I asked for dressed. Lots of room for improvement.

Thomas T.

Yelp
Food is always good. Service is usually quick and they care about their customers. Seems like they have a lot of regulars stop by. Very local feel in the restaurant. Definitely will be back!

Denise T.

Yelp
The lunch specials are very good value for the price. The prices are extremely reasonable, in my opinion. Service is good and my only complaint is that they are super busy and could use a LOT more seating. When we work in the area, my whole crew usually eat at Koz's. It's a pretty basic set up.

David D.

Yelp
Great meatloaf special on Tuesday. Haven't gone any other days, but I'll give it a try. Waitress is a real nice lady.

Damon F.

Yelp
Lady behind the counter was a sweetheart. Got the shrimp poboy and it was delicious - absolutely stacked with fried shrimp.

Hanna D.

Yelp
Really good prices and large yummy servings. Great spot for a quick and filling lunch!!

Landon L.

Yelp
Koz's is by far my favorite place to get lunch in Harrahan / Metairie. I'd recommend them to anyone that likes classic, simple New Orleans dishes - but done extremely well. And they get you your food very quickly, considering how popular they are.

Eva L.

Yelp
This place looks a little off the beaten path. Parking was fine. The street was lined with cars when we went in and absolutely empty when we left (20-30 minutes inside), so definitely a poppin' place for lunch for locals, I assume. I got the fish poboy with no mayo so the bread was a bit dry, but the fish was moist and smooth and delicious and cooked to perfection! Combine that with the average shredded lettuce and tomato slice and we've got a pretty good sandwich! Gumbo was also good. Wasn't a fan of the hard greasy slice of toast it came with though. The ambiance is causal. Seems like everyone knows everyone. The bathroom was a little danky but it served its purpose. There's a corner sectioned off with signs saying you're not allowed in unless you're 18 or 21 (I forgot) ... not sure if a joke or they've got some adult games back there! Who knows!!

David K.

Yelp
Always a great meal. Have had many porous and many plate lunches. Only 2 poboys i didn't care for is their burger poboy and smoked sausage poboy. Burger poboy tastes like outsourced frozen meat. I can tell it isn't made in house. Smoked sausage poboy is skimpy. They take 1 link, cut it in half and put it on the sandwich. Thats it. Add a link, will ya? Other than thise 2, the place is great.

Stacey M.

Yelp
This place is great good service and the food is awesome. I highly recommend giving it a try. The gumbo is the best I have had in a restaurant!

Dean A.

Yelp
Amazing as always. Had my favorite BBQ Ham Po-boy! The lunch specials-especially spaghetti on Thursday is also a home run.

Josh B.

Yelp
Huge fan of Koz's! It's the true definition of a hole in the wall with great food like no other. They have a fairly large menu filled with daily specials, all sorts of poboys, salads, and Cajun dishes. They have local beers and a self serve fountain drink machine. The staff is super friendly and inviting and the food quality is always consistent and top notch! Definitely the perfect place for lunch with co-workers or dinner with the family! The gumbo was rich and filled with ingredients. The shrimp Creole was absolutely loaded with huge shrimp and was a fairly large portion. Give this place a shot, it's well worth the drive!

Andrew S.

Yelp
I just left there and having frequented the location on Franklin Ave I was pleasantly surprised to find the meal was very good. I had a short conversation with the owner and renewed our friendship. I plan on returning to the restaurant on my more occasions.

barbara s.

Yelp
Best mom and pop joint ever. Family and staff are so warm. Food so yummy in your tummy. Love giving my money to something so home style good! Get well soon Koz we sure miss you, Love Barbara and Steve

Yelp
I had my hopes up for this & I'm partly disappointed. My sandwich was perfect. I ordered a Half oyster half shrimp poboy. My daughter's shrimp poboy was terrible. The bread was flat & hard, she could barely bite into it. I had to press the edges to see what she was complaining about. Totally not the same bread as my sandwich. I gave her my half of shrimp while I toast some French bread that I stored in the freezer. I hope they do better in the future because I'm not close enough to take it back for a refund or exchange.

Bobby B.

Yelp
Well was stuck in Harahan for business and looked to Yelp for lunch!! This place was perfect GREAT food for a fair price!! Home cooking like my Momo would cook. Redbeans were perfect rice was just right also. Staff was friendly and personable will come back when I come back this way!!

Dana P.

Yelp
We were shopping in the area on Saturday with our friend and he suggested we go to Koz's for lunch. My boyfriend and I hadn't been there in about 5 or 6 years, so we decided to try it out again. It's tucked away in a little area off of Hickory by a small park. It's real old school Jefferson Parish inside. Their moniker is "Home of the Whole Loaf." You can get huge full size poboys for parties or events. (I don't know the exact measurements, but we saw a guy carry one out on his shoulder.) I got the roast beef poboy and my boyfriend got the bbq beef poboy. Our friend also got the roast beef poboy and an order of the onion rings The poboys were very tasty. The onion rings were the thin ones and they were delicious. Besides poboys, they also have plate specials and seafood platters. We would come back again.

Michelle B.

Yelp
My favorite poboy shop in town!! Highly recommend the fried shrimp & roast beef! They also have a great chicken salad salad.

Angela S.

Yelp
I always get the grilled shrimp po-boy and it is always the best. Healthy sized shrimp and the best french bread too. My daughter always gets the muffuletta which is always delicious. The best sides of mac and cheese and think cut onion rings. Really good chili cheese fries. My favorite location of the two existing.

Terri E.

Yelp
That fish is cooked perfectly! And yes... there are french fries under those huge fillets ! Exactly what i wanted to eat @ an amazing price and free wifi! Excellent place for a working dinner. I wish i would have eaten here last night. I hope and pray i get another work assignment here in Harahan but... its worth the drive from anywhere when i crave fried fish like i do sometimes! I can not even describe hope perfect it is! I can't wait to try their desserts and po'boys! I am 1 happy girl right now in fried fish heaven!

Kostantinos A.

Yelp
Very friendly people that provide great service but the food is even better, I will definitely be back and I highly recommend the oyster shrimp po boy.

Genie B.

Yelp
Great little Harahan neighborhood restaurant! I've tried multiple items on the menu and everything is delicious. Daily specials, dinners, salads, sandwiches, seafood plates, and kid's meals, but I do keep going back for the roast beef po-boy. It is sooooo good! I highly recommend Koz's!!!

Mike F.

Yelp
The Food is really good and the Service is friendly! The only compliant I have is the Men's Restroom. It needed a lot of TLC! It was dirty and needs renovation. I will back for the Food and Service however!

Drake C.

Yelp
This is the best lunch place I've ever been to in my life! Amazing service, extremely friendly and great atmosphere! We were given free fries just because I asked to add them to my order. I could go on and on about this place. Definitely come try it out!

Zachary S.

Yelp
This small, neighborhood restaurant has some of the best sandwiches and po-boys around. Cheap, and always fresh, they make a great lunch time stop for the busy bee and also a great family stop on a weekend

Katie J.

Yelp
Kozs is tucked away in a corner off of hickory. When I worked I Harahan a few years ago, we even used to buy their huge poboys for work meals all of the time. Great for big families, offices, small groups, etc! The bread there is perfect poboy bread; slight chew, crunchy and fluffy. Be prepared for the crumbs and messy fingers, cause as we know, poboys are messy worth it! I've had seafood all over Harahan and I find their fried seafood, and poboys, are the best balance of salt, flavor and crunchiness. You pop in, order your food and drinks at the front counter, and wait for your food within 10 minutes. The softshell crab poboy was my personal favorite.

Timothy K.

Yelp
I highly recommend I was reluctant to try this place as I usually am, I am very picky as I like home style cooking and I definitely wasn't disappointed we had the onion rings, which were a large serving, and not the pre frozen kind either. The full Caesar salad was also a nice size and the dressing was also very nice. I had the seafood platter which came with fried catfish, oysters, shrimp, and a stuffed crab which was all cook very well and tasted great, my girlfriend had the hot sausage po-boy and the bread was amazingly fresh overall we had a very nice experience and the people and staff were very nice and the place was nice we will definitely be going back soon

Paul L.

Yelp
Great family restaurant with friendly service. They make you feel at home. Have daily specials that are reasonably priced. Substitutions are ok depending on taste. We go here two to three times per week. If you're looking for a quiet place for dinner, this is it.

Paul K.

Yelp
Delicious food! The Cobb salad was one of the best I've ever had and the vinaigrette dressing was superb. I tried the gumbo and a fried shrimp po-boy and both of those were spot on. The interior isn't much to look at/could use a little renovation... But if you're just looking for delicious food, this place has it!

Linda L.

Yelp
My all time favorite for anything to eat!!! Variety of delicious New Orleans favorites!! Every holiday , we order mini poor boys and potato salad . Visit either location , Harahan or Lakeview ,your won't be disappointed. Favorite customer -Linda

Yelp
Koz's is a great place for poboys and seafood. Came here for lunch today and was tempted to get their lunch special. Had to pass b/c my friend keeps raving about the bbq ham poboy so I gave it a try. The bbq ham is mouth-watering delicious!! Will definitely get the same poboy again. Great service! Seymour's, Red Wagon, and Kim Anh you now have some serious competition for my lunch money. I love all of you but Koz's may have just risen to the top of the lunch pecking order.

Amanda H.

Yelp
Outstanding meal! I read the reviews here on YELP...and I was not disappointed in the least. It was very friendly, full of locals, and so tasty- quite perfect for an out of town girl who wanted to experience a real New Orleans sandwich shop. I had the Roast Beef Po Boy and the Red Beans and rice with Sausage. I shall return to Koz's on future trips! Looking forward to trying other items- the menu looked great!

Jennifer F.

Yelp
I went to lunch with a couple of co-workers this past week and was not disappointed. You can get pretty much anything on the menu for under $10. For example, when I went they had a white beans + meat (sausage, fried chicken, grilled chicken, pork chop) for $7.50. There is a HUGE variety of po boys and dinner plates as well. I opted for the special with grilled chicken. The beans were kind of bland for my liking, but nothing a bit of hot sauce couldn't fix. Still a great value for $7.50, as it was a huge portion, served with a piece of french bread. It can get a little crowded at lunch time and parking can be a challenge. However, food is served quickly and with a smile.

Mike G.

Yelp
Wow! Possibly the best Po-Boy I have ever had! Maybe even better than Honey's down in Central City (Sorry Honey!) If you can - get to Koz's and get one!

Roger B.

Yelp
Another of the many family seafood restaurants in the metro area. And its just not seafood. They have a great selection of poor boy sandwiches and hot plates. You walk up to the counter, study the menus on the walls, and place your order. Then find a table, and go over to the side counter to pour your own drinks before sitting down. Most of the time I order either the shrimp poor boy or the fried shrimp plate. On the most recent visit, I had the plate with sides of fries and Italian green beans, along with a piece of toasted french bread. The shrimp came out crisp from the fryer. Just as I like them. My wife caused some problems as she ordered a 1/2 shrimp and 1/2 fish poor boy without the bread, dressed on the side. The poor lady taking the order was all confused. Why was she ordering a poor boy without the bread? (She didn't want the the carbs from the bread and wasn't hungry enough for a full plate.) Anyway, we finally convinced her that we knew what we were doing. My wife was real happy with the catfish as it was crisp and light. And nibbled on my sides. Nothing fancy or pretentious about this place, just good food at fair prices. What else can you ask for from a neighborhood restaurant?

Dennis G.

Yelp
I've been to the other location before and loved it. Now that I'm working in Harahan and looking for good places for lunch and heard there's a second Koz's nearby it was an easy decision. I would definitely call Koz's a hidden gem in Harahan. I decided to get that day's plate lunch special rather than a poboy, smothered veal with peas and potato salad. The veal was incredibly tender and full of flavor. Often when something is smothered the gravy is used to hide a lower quality meat but not this time. I'd definitely recommend it. When it comes to potato salad, everyone has a grandmother that makes the best (or at least they will claim to), myself included. Koz's potato salad is a good contender to go up against grandma's any day. One last note, if you don't know where it is or aren't looking for it you may drive right past it. Hell, you might drive past even if you are looking for it. So keep a sharp eye and you won't miss out on a good lunch.

Howard H.

Yelp
What a jewel in Harahan! They have a huge menu of poboys, salads, plate lunches and other sandwiches. Inexpensive pricing - most plate lunches are around $8 and the staff is very friendly. I had a pulled pork poboy that was sloppy and delicious. The onion rings are thin sliced and nicely cooked. Resist the urge to do fastfood in Harahan and go to this neighborhood jewel.

David D.

Yelp
To my surprise they had a cuban sandwich on the menu. Even more surprising , it was very good! My wife had their daily special, baked chicken w/ two sides. Very good deal for $7.50. She enjoyed it very much.

Big C.

Yelp
This is a great spot. Genuine New Orleans po-boy shop in a suburban neighborhood for any visitors reading this. But why not? This site opened after Katrina - their original New Orleans spot on Franklin was flooded, and they obviously wanted to keep their business going (and their employees employed), and the site does good business, so why close it after they re-opened in New Orleans? To the good-fortune of all of the locals in the area, it is now a solid part of the neighborhood.

Jonathan R.

Yelp
They serve my school so I will give them that bu the bread had this weird mint taste to so that was not great, but other than that it was good. And they have Pacman so that is cool.

Jessica P.

Yelp
Really yummy food. We had the 12 inch po boys, they were huge! Must try the hand breaded onion rings, very large serving.

K R.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and the service! I definitely have recommended this place to everyone. The salads are amazing and the gumbo is to die for!

Keith E.

Yelp
Excellent oyster po boys. Great place for lunch. Excellent service. The onion ring orders are massive.

Jeff G.

Yelp
This place is about as solid as it gets. Best fried catfish around. They have the big fillets and not the little strips or nuggets that most places serve. Also, the fried chicken and pork chop are delicious. I've never had a bad meal here. The only negative thing about this place are the restrooms. They have to be the smallest, dirtiest, restrooms in the city. We joke that you actually feel dirtier when coming out of there when you went in to wash your hands. Great food though!

Jay A.

Yelp
Great food, Great owner, Great prices...it's a family favorite. The food is always fresh and the best po boy in Jefferson parish.

Kimmie R.

Yelp
Koz makes the absolute best fried catfish I have ever eaten! It's light, fluffy, delicious. The po-boys are fantastic, too, and they have this really decadent chocolate thing, but I can't remember what it's called. Really casual, and if you get to meet Koz, well, what a wonderful character! Nicest man, and puts love into all he creates. If you're cravin' catfish...go, go, go to Koz's!

Luke F.

Yelp
Huge servings and always delicious. Highly recommended - best po boys in the Harahan/River Ridge area. Service is always very friendly and efficient. Try the BBQ ham po boy. It sounds as good as it tastes. If you really want to punish your stomach with awesomeness, order the "whole loaf" option to split between a friend or two. Or, go for "Will's Chamber of Horror": roast beef, ham and turkey, plus swiss and american cheeses, white onion, mayo, creole mustard, and Italian salad dressing.
