I love Korean hot pot and Korean BBQ now, thanks to KPOT and my fun family!
This location is easy to find just south off of US-50 Fairfax Blvd between I-66 and Main St, just west of where Fairfax Blvd and Main Street swap names. There's a parking garage within two blocks and lots of street-parking too. They are open daily from lunch to late, with lower prices before 4pm. We got there a little after five, and the thirty or forty mostly-empty booths filled completely in short order, so reservations are a good idea after that.
They serve AYCE all-you-can-eat Korean hot pot and Korean BBQ, plus some appetizers, alcoholic and soft drinks, and desserts. I've tried Korean cooking before, and I wasn't all that interested in it, but here the great tastes and the super-fun experience have really awakened me! First off, your whole table has to agree on either the hot pot menu or the BBQ menu or both, then you just start requesting anything from the menu! There's a tablet to place orders for each ingredient, and they are brought quickly by very attentive friendly staff. There's also a buffet with additional items. We started with alaskan crab legs and huge shrimp and sauces and spices from the buffet, various flavorful broths for hot pot, and many different cook-yourself fresh seafood and meats, sliced or cut or or minced or whole, plain or spicy. We had cut lamb, several cuts of beef, thin sliced pork, cut and thin-sliced chicken, breaded huge scallops, fresh white swai fish and spicy salmon and mussels and large oysters, shrimp dumplings, tender boneless "finger"-ribs, minced seasoned bulgogi beef, tofu, and more that i've forgotten to list here! We had corn and sweet potatoes and watercress and onions-to-grill and white rice. Some of us had not-too-salty miso broth, one had a savory mushroom broth, and one had a spicy tomato Tom Yum soup. Some of us had sangria or shots or cocktails or juices.
The waiter brought us each whatever broth we chose for hot pot, and lit the gas-grill that's built into the table. Each of us had an inductive heater for the broth, built into the table, and you tap the button to cycle through temperature choices: warm, simmering, or boiling. As our seafood and meats and veggies arrived, we simmered or grilled our ingredients, which is fun and quick and active! The thin-slices and seafood cook in just a couple minutes to give you the freshest broth-simmered meats and seafoods I have ever eaten! The thin slices and seafood grill in seconds, and the meats and chicken are ready in minutes, filling your senses with amazing aromas, as you cut any thicker pieces with shears and move and flip your grilling with tongs. Now and then they replace the grill surface with a clean one, because you will burn a few things or stick them to the grill. Add your rice and sauces, ask for refills any time of anything. We all ate with chopsticks, but i bet there's flatware available, too. A few of us managed to save a little room for desserts from the buffet or a free cup of ice cream (or both :-). Besides a thin piece of bright red (maybe strawberry) mousse-cake, I had piping hot soft sweet sesame-balls, and the most lychee fruit I've ever had at one time! Heavenly!
Our family are often quiet and relaxed, but here we talked and laughed non-stop for a couple of hours, all the while cooking and tasting and eating so many foods and flavors and fully engaged in our lively dining adventure! I am so thrilled that my family knew of this place, because I haven't enjoyed a restaurant this much in as long as I can remember! I had never really thought much of Korean cooking before, but this was so tasty and generous and fun! Thank you family, and thank you KPOT!
