Hands-on all you can eat
My first experience of a Korean bbq joint
1. This one is in a very unassuming "strip mall" down from Aldi's Parking wasn't bad middle of the afternoon on a Friday...
2. Much larger inside, and friendlier, than outside appearance.
3. Eat-in only. No exceptions (except they did let me take my last few sips of my drink with me)
PREMISE (recall, this is my first time)
For $20 (lunch) You choose your own food. You cook your own food. There is a small " pre-cooked all you can eat" appetizer bar that comes w your meal. You can grab some wings and noodles and egg rolls before your food arrives to be cooked. And you can grab desserts afterwards
I chose two beefs and one chicken, and all the vegetable options!
Appetizers were just "ok"...no seasoning on the wings, and the noodles had been out for awhile
A side of white rice and a bowl of large leaf romaine leaves was placed on the table when she brought me the meats and veggies
My waitress helped me w the mixture of sauce options for my main meal..and once she brought the food she showed me how to cook half of it
Yes. I know how to cook lol. However, I usually cook "standing over" my pots and pans. Sitting, and "height challenged" (5 1.5), the average person doesn't realize how "far away" the center of the table is..and THEN it drops down-in a couple of inches. So I'm trying to cook, arms over extended, thus it's not the most comfortable position.
Chicken takes longer to cook than the beef. But we got it done, and the marinade for all three was delish!
She swapped out the "frying pan" after the meat, so I could then do the vegetables. then abandoned me and I was left to fend for myself w the peppers onions mushrooms potato and pumpkin...
I made it through, and she seemed pleased at my work when she conveniently returned only AFTER they were done She suggested that, like many Koreans, I use the leafs to add my food, wrap, and eat with my hands...great idea.. and I was filled quite quickly!! Thought the meat and rice had cooled a bit, by the time i finished the veggies, wrapping it all in the lettuce -the hot veggies were enough to make the wrap warm and a nice mix of chew texture
All said and done, I prob had 2-3wraps, and enough for another, but was too full.
Alas. I couldn't take the remnants with me (see no 3 above). Waitress said I could sit awhile and wait for my tummy to make room in order to finish it off...but I opted to waddle to my car and continue my afternoon
Ambiance was pleasant. Waitstaff very helpful. Bathroom clean. And overall a cool $20 cooking food experience
Would likely do again, if friends were going, and a "seat pillow/step" was an option to help me reach and cook
But prob not likely to go again, alone
Recommend!!
