Kraken Cru

The bartender and the chef are so friendly. The food is way beyond my expectations. I couldn’t imagine how the chef could bring out such excellent plates from the small kitchen right next to the bar. The flavor and presentation is top notch. I think it’s even better than some Michelin one star restaurants. Best dining experience in Canada. Will come back again!

So much fun!!! Bartender was hilarious and super friendly. Chef was warm and dancing while cooking. Fish was sooo fresh and made with interesting flavor combinations. Delicious pasta too!! Wish I could eat there every day.

Kraken Cru was the delight of our trip to Quebec. I honestly think this was one of the best places that my wife and I have ever visited. The food was sublime and the friendliness of staff was true to form. The place is simply decorated and the kitchen actually resembles the kitchen of your next door neighbor. I marveled at how the Kraken Cru staff was able to balance a humble space with such amazing output. The man who was acting as bartender/server took the time the translate the entirety of their (small) menu for us so that we understood our options fully before starting to think about what we were going to eat. I will return to Kraken Cru every time I'm in Quebec.

Exceptional food and fun cocktails. Feels like if your friends ran a restaurant. Food took some time, but worth the wait. Lobster cherry tomato salad, oysters and creamy seafood ravioli were all delicious!

Stumbled up this awesome restaurant when the other place we wanted to check out had a long line up, this turned out to be such a great experience. The vibe here is very chill and relaxed, we sat at the bar and enjoyed many cocktails and oysters. Servers were very friendly and the drinks and food were absolutely delicious.

I loved our dinner experience at Kraken Cru. It’s a small restaurant with a very attentive staff. The oysters are a must, and it was also my favorite dish on their menu. They had a great natural wine selection as well as unique cocktails. The restaurant had Brooklyn feel, which made me feel right at home. It’s a creative concept with a welcoming atmosphere.

The chips and caviar was really good. Oysters were to die for. Drinks were very good. Skip the tuna tartare and the walleye.

really friendly and knowledgeable staff, it takes a while to get the dish but i understand it’s a busy night overall really fresh oysters and very delicious seafood comfort food! the music is pretty chill and i like the homey intimate vibe of the interior. i had a combination of these oysters valley pearl small meat, slightly salty, meat is kinda lose, not very memorable belle du jour small meat, salty brine, metallic and salty but not oceanic, slightly nutty finish willy small in size, meat lean, light brine, slight taste of cucumber, meat is bland and light at first, a little bit nutty later is it a kind of premium malpaque cheebooktok very fresh and slightly salty brothy brine, meaty and creamy, have a nutty after taste, huge size, my fav generally except for the cheebooktok, other oysters have very similar taste, the brine is more balanced, slightly salty, and meat is on the smaller and lose side, a little bit metallic, but overall the flavor profile is kinda similar. oysters are very fresh tho i love the halibut, the meat is juicy firm and flaky. and it goes so well with the sweet potatoe puree, charred carrots and lobster butter burmese sauce is absolutely amazing, it’s so creamy, so bright and tangy and the earthiness of the tarragon goes really well with the rustic flavor of carrots and sweet potato puree. it’s like a symphony, any combo of the two elements taste really good together. my only thing about it is that the puree could use a sweater sweat potato and make the purée slightly thicker to contrast the lighter burmese sauce. and there are a few more elements that could bring out the crunchiness of the dish aside from the sunflower seeds like fried fish skins, fried brussels sprouts to contrast the creaminess of other elements

Cozy bar style restaurant. The street is under construction and hard to find the place. I had a half dozen oyster (3 kinds) and oh really good ones. I ordered multiple dishes and all of them are delicate finish with great base taste. It is complex and I enjoyed a chef's creativity. The dessert was Pana cotta with dates. Hmm yammy ending the night!! The staffs are very friendly and great place to hang out. They have very unique alcohol list such as Polish Chopin vodka and Japanese Kinuura whiskey. I highly recommend this place!

This place is amazing!!!! Great people! Great food! Great cocktails! Great wine! Highly recommend. Menu on chalkboard... plus oysters... throw out a cocktail or just ask for a drink based on your preferences. We only speak English and had food allergy and they more than accommodated to both. Go here!

Don't let the outdoor tiny picnic tables fool you, this is an outstanding choice for local seafood and wines! Our server was so patient to take our order (no salt - ugh) request to the kitchen and boy did they come through. Every course from oysters to mains was bright, fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Loved the local wine suggestion as well.

Great place. Awesome atmosphere, very cool and a happy place. The staff was superb. Our server took the time to help translate the menu from French to English. The food was superb. Delicious and perfectly served This pace is a hidden gem!

Visiting from Vermont, had our list of restaurants and bars to hit. Came here at about 4:30 on a Sunday and had just opened. Nice and quiet at that point but I suspect it gets crowded in the evening as this is a somewhat tiny establishment. Friendly bartender with no problem helping us translate the French menu into English. In talking also found out they are owned by La' Affair est Ketchup just down the road. Had a dozen oysters, tried all varieties. Did not disappoint. Definitely a spot to hit up for oysters if you are visiting the city. Will go back someday.

The environment and vibe for this resto is fun, fun, fun! It is really neat to see how a tiny kitchen and really old stove can make such fresh and tasty meals! The oyster choices and prices are very reasonable, we got the jumbo oyster which covered 90% of my face was only $3.50 each. We ordered the sea urchin bisque with scallops, octopus and a bunch of oysters. All the dishes were fresh and light.

Feels like home! My mom, sister and I are visiting from Los Angeles and were craving oysters and added this restaurant to our must-try list while visiting. This delicious oyster bar is nestled on a cozy corner with a casual welcoming atmosphere that gives a unique and organic experience to connect with the locals. The co-owner at kracken cru is so friendly and welcoming! Very knowledgeable of the oysters and their wines and speak English for those who are visiting. Recommended oysters, if they have: Trésor du Large Lucky Lime Acadian Pearl South Lake They were all amazing and they recommended the perfect Chardonnay. Must try!!!

This is more like a classy dive bar with excellent food. Its very small but doesn't take reservations. The downstairs is open fri/sat but only serves drinks and oysters. Upstairs has a larger menu probably seats about 12 at the bar and a table of 4. Weekly rotating menu. Great oysters and small plates. Wish I had tried more.

So so so good! We had oysters, the lobster gazpacho, spaghetti, radish, cucumber, and pork sous vide, and lots of wine. Every dish was finely made, full of local flavor. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, and both the waiter, Sam, and the chef were super friendly. The bill was very reasonably priced. The restaurant is tiny and does not take reservations, so it's a good idea to go kind of early (we arrived at 5:45, and were the first ones there for dinner). If I lived here, I would dine at this restaurant every week. And I highly recommend this place to visitors.

This place was quite an experience! Loved the atmosphere and people working there. I liked that they don't have standard menu and cook with seasonal ingredients. We had oysters, bone marrow and scallops with carrot purée in lobster bisque. It was unbelievable. In my opinion, this place bits any expensive fancy place. It's a truly a gem!!!! Our visit to Quebec wouldn't have been so great without this place.

First review here on Yelp. I was lucky enough to find out about this place after having a dinner at L'affaire est Ketchup, one of its sister restaurants. My wife and I were visiting Quebec City during our honeymoon and and wanted to get out of the tourist heavy area for some great food and they didn't disappoint. First, the ambience was great-casual and welcoming. Despite being the only Americans at the bar everyone-staff and fellow customers-were all really friendly. The menu is on a chalkboard and changes daily, and the staff is great about explaining in English or French what goes into every dish. As for the food itself, the oysters were incredibly delicious and fresh. Whether you come here for a few drinks or a whole meal do not miss out on the oysters. In addition we also had oysters prepared in a chowder with bacon served right out of the shells which was cooked perfectly. Perhaps the most interesting dish was the monkfish liver (foie de lotte). For fans of foie gras it's similar in texture and taste overall, but in their preparation the end product was unique and a great compliment to the oysters. It was buttery and rich and just had the right hint of brine. I do not know how often it makes its way on the menu but if you see it get it-it's not just a gimmick. Overall if you're visiting Quebec City it's a place I recommend anyone go who appreciates seafood. Moreover, if I lived in the area it seemed like a perfect place to meet friends either for drinks and small plates or even a date. One final note, unless it's changed recently, there are no reservations, walk ins only.
