"Krankies has transformed from a coffee roaster in a former fallout shelter into one of Winston-Salem’s go-to breakfast and brunch spots, blending hipster charm with an artsy edge. While coffee is still roasted on-site, the real draw is the Southern-baked biscuits stacked high with fried chicken, Texas Pete hot sauce, or vegan-friendly options. The restaurant prides itself on inclusivity — not just in its menu but in its culture, closing on the first Monday of each month to give staff a dedicated mental health day." - Nikki Miller-Ka

We tried ordering an egg on the side and they would not do it for the one in our group who had dietary restrictions. It was odd in my opinion not being willing to help us with that request. She just had a coffee and all was fine though. Atmosphere was nice.

Google
Amazing breakfast spot if you want good chicken or biscuits. We tried a few chicken biscuits (The Hangover Helper, Dirt South, and the Bluebird) and had the wedges as well. The green sauce for the wedges was delicious. No fountain sodas but they have coffee options and drinks in the can or bottle. The fruit cup was a good value for the kiddos.

I had been wanting to try this place for awhile- I came here a year or so ago with a friend but the line was out the door and we didn't have time to wait. This time, I came on a Sunday around noon, thinking I might have come after the early morning brunch rush, but that was not the case! The line was still pretty long but I was committed to finally eating here! I brought a book and waited in line. It's a nice, open concept space with some outdoor seating available as well. The line moved quickly though, it took me about 20 minutes to get to the counter and place my order. I ended up going with the brown sugar latte and the hangover helper biscuit sandwich. I sat at a high top inside and my order came out in about 10 minutes. The latte was decent and the biscuit was gigantic, even after cutting it in half. It came with a side of sausage gravy that was great for dipping. Unfortunately, I felt the sandwich didn't quite deliver on flavor. Not bad by any means, and like I said, great portion, but it was just missing something. I added a bit more hot sauce to it. I do wish the egg were fried! The gravy too was nice and thick but somewhat bland as well. Price wise, it's pretty standard, about $17 for the sandwich and coffee before tip. Given the relatively long waits, not sure I will be back here soon - but I would be interested in trying a couple other biscuits and coffee specialty drinks to see if the flavor profiles deliver.

Google
Ten outta ten!! I saw this recommended on Reddit and had to check it out for breakfast. They were busy, but the line moved fast and the food came out quick. The biscuits ate very well made and the chicken is so tender. Coffee was also delicious. The space is very open and cozy. Would definitely come back!

Google
Biscuits were GREAT. I got the blueberry chicken biscuit which I was really skeptical about but so happy with in the end. If I were local I’d be a regular. a bit of a wait — it seems like this place is well known and popular for good reason. But they moved through the line quickly. Only issue was finding seating. Coffee was good too but was overshadowed by the exceptional biscuits.

Aaron Rankin

Google
We drove an hour just to try them out and we were not disappointed! Friendly staff, amazing food, great prices and a cool atmosphere to just eat, drink, and chill. I highly recommend the bluebird but any of their biscuits are amazing!

We come here often for a quick bite and a refreshing drink. It is near Bailey Park, great spot to visit downtown. They have a full bar as well as coffee and iced drinks. The food menu is very modern and you can’t go wrong with any of the choices. You order at the counter and then sit outside or inside. Very Hip place. Update: 1/2025 My daughter was in the mood for a biscuit so we decided on Krankies. Parking can be hard at times but today we were in luck as a car was pulling out just as we got there. The outside appears to have more tables now, but it’s still gravel and dirt like the parking lot, so don’t bring nice shoes especially if it’s been raining. The inside has also changed as they no longer have a bar and that is where you order now. The old ordering counter is gone as you will see in picture. Ordering is the same, you get called up when it’s ready and you clean your own table. The coffee drinks are always great and more of the attraction for me. As for the food, I may be a bit biased because I am not a biscuit guy, too much breading for me takes away from the rest. My daughter got the Classic, which is their fried chicken doused in honey & Texas Pete sauce. I had a bite and loved the combo of sweet & a little kick. I don’t consider T.P. to be a HOT sauce, more of a flavor enhancer IMHO. I got the Hangover Helper, had the same chicken with egg & cheese added & sausage gravy on the side. It is a very messy sandwich and you are better off eating it with a fork and knife. The sausage gravy had some nice pieces of sausage in it but it lacked flavor. Like my daughter’s, the chicken was the best part but other than that, I personally was not happy. The place is laid back and relaxing both inside and outside. Great to take your computer or a book and just hang. You do have to clean up your own table, I never understand why you pay and tip ahead when you don’t know what the service would be like, in this case we did all the work. If they had just a chicken dish I would get that, for now I will just come for the coffee. But if you love biscuits then I’m sure you will love them!

Google
Meh. Chicken breast on a huge southern style biscuit. Mostly carbs here. Warm coffee just okay. No table service. Warehouse ambience. Very little variety overpriced and trendy. 4 persons with beverages and simple entrees: over $70 with tip. Fun once. Not repeatable.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Winston-Salem, Krankies is your go-to spot for a delightful breakfast experience. With a menu boasting a variety of breakfast biscuits, creative coffee concoctions, and impeccable service, this charming eatery is a must-visit for breakfast lovers. One of the highlights of dining at Krankies is the diverse selection of breakfast biscuits and fun coffee creations. From classic bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits to more adventurous options like spicy chicken (Nashville Hot), there's something to please every palate. Their coffee menu is equally impressive, featuring a variety of unique and delicious beverages. What truly sets Krankies apart is their exceptional service. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and always willing to accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies. Whether you have specific dietary needs or preferences, they go above and beyond to ensure a satisfying dining experience. I will definitely be back next time I am in the area.

Yelp
A buddy and I wandered into Krankie's on our lunch break, out of curiosity to try one of their chicken biscuits. Once I saw the price, however, I just opted for a peppermint tea, instead. (There's no way I'll ever pay close to $10 or more for a lone BISCUIT, I don't care how well you THINK you dress it up)! Still, the service (regardless of the overpriced menu items) was swift and orderly, regardless of the lines of customers waiting inside for their food to come out. The interior had an ample amount of natural lighting and remained intimate with seating arrangements located both inside and outside. Unfortunately, there's little to no free parking chances immediately located around the facility... but there are two parking garages a couple of blocks away (another reason why I deducted some stars from my rating). I enjoyed sitting outdoors, taking in the surrounding (transitional) views of downtown Winston-Salem so much that I can totally see myself returning to sip on a beverage or beer... but food-ordering for enjoying an actual lunch or brunch I'll leave to those who don't mind throwing their money away upon small portions.

Yelp
Love the sausage egg and cheese biscuit. Wish they would bring back the lox! Interesting folks working and Always super quick and friendly

Terri W.

Yelp
The girl at the cash register was very friendly and helpful. The Chai was good but the only real spice was cinnamon on the top. I have mixed emotions about the biscuit. The chicken was thick, juicy and had a nice crunch. The hot sauce and honey was almost nonexistent. Other reviews mention that it's so good and messy that you need a fork and lots of napkins. Sadly, that wasn't the case with mine. The biscuit top was hard so I removed it. The chocolate chip cookie was good. If I give them another try, I'll ask for extra sauce.

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
I wish I could give Krankies 5 stars because it used to be my favorite spot in all of Winston-Salem. Vibes are great, service is great, food is great, and coffee is the best. BUT, they took my favorite menu item - the Mean Green - off the menu. The other egg sandwiches are good, but truly nothing compares to the Mean Green - I used to go every weekend for it but haven't been back much. Their dirty chai latte is the best over ever had though. Great spot for large groups.

Yelp
What a great experience with a cool place for breakfast food drinks and pastries. Saw good reviews of Krankies and thought I'd stop by. I had the Tiramisu Cold Brew which was perfect. I like cold brew the most when it doesn't taste like regular cold brew (motor oil in my mind). But this one was a perfect blend of chocolate and cream and coffee. And it would definitely recommend the LARGE size over small. I also saw reviews of the "Hangover Helper" sandwich which is a biscuit with fried chicken, Texas Pete (still not overly hot), honey, gravy, bacon, and egg. Oh this was delicious. Not sure anyone could cleanly eat it with hands. So make sure you get a fork and knife. But I loved this. The gravy was not as much as I would have put on it if I had made it myself but it was a perfect blend of all the ingredients. I definitely will be back. This is a great find and a place you MUST try with great parking close to the place even though it's near downtown.

Thao L.

Yelp
Such a cute place and I was shocked in how long the line was but was pleased on how fast it went through. Food was delicious but the PSL was average. I also shared a cinnamon roll with a friend (not pictured) but it was soo delicious. It had a hint of coffee in the cinnamon swirl which just makes the whole pastry. I will definitely get it again if I am ever in town again Such an a staple and never disappoints

Yelp
My wife has wanted to check Krankies out for a long time and this weekend was finally the weekend. We arrived about 10am on a Sunday morning and even though the parking lot was busy we were able to find a spot with no issues. We approached the building and while we had driven by before as we got closer we could see some of the cool industrial architecture which we like so much. The outdoor area has quite a few various sized tables and chairs for customers to sit at, most have umbrellas or sun shades to help in the summer heat. Upon walking in there was a good sized line formed and because we weren't familiar with the menu we each took turns walking to the side to ensure we knew what we wanted to order when our turn arrived. The line seemed to move fairly quickly and they appeared to have their processes in place behind the scenes because employees were busy taking orders, delivering orders to the counter, calling the customers name when the order was ready, preparing drinks at the bar, etc. We were impressed by the obvious efficiencies. The young lady at the counter was friendly and helpful in assisting us since we both wanted the Krankies Classic but one of us wanted it with sausage gravy while the other wanted it with honey and Texas Pete's on the side. We also ordered a side of potato wedges and their watermelon mint and feta salad. We were able to find seats at a longer table on the outdoor patio area and again admired the vintage industrial pieces such as the old utility elevator, brickwork and flooring. It's decorated in a funky/eclectic way that just works. Our order was ready in approximately 10 minutes and we were able to easily hear our name called over the speaker system which was loud enough to clearly make out your name when called but not loud and obnoxious. We quickly unwrapped our order and thought the biscuits looked huge and delicious! The watermelon mint salad was packaged in a cup that was easy to enjoy and tasted very refreshing. The potatoes were on the darker side but were seasoned perfectly and also tasted delicious. We really enjoyed our sandwiches too, they clearly have a very good thing going because the line was practically out the door the entire time we were here. We will be back...very good experience!

Tina Z.

Yelp
We had the the hangover sandwich. Eggs light and fluffy, fried chicken was just tasty and done to perfection. Visit was really nice too but I wanted the other ingredients. Bacon and gravy all put to get her for a great sandwich. We will be back when we come see our kids.

Yelp
One of the go-to breakfast spots when in Winston. The food is typically very good and has a rotating seasonal and/or special menu. Not too much has changed as far as the main menu, which is good. Plenty of good coffee choices as well. A plus are the pastries/goods at the register which all look great. A lot more seating outside now, which helps with the overgrowing patrons and long lines (which is good).

Leyla M.

Yelp
great place for breakfast! very solid hangover brunch too. their biscuits are good and they get creative with the sandwiches. i've been a handful of times at this point and haven't found a biscuit that i didn't like! beware that many of them have a little bit of spice or hot sauce on them. their seasonal tiramisu coffee is so good and i'm not a coffee person! be prepared to stand in a line on the weekends. it moves pretty fast though.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Awesome spot in downtown Winston Salem. The vibe and atmosphere is amazing, lots of character and plenty of seating inside, on porches and outside! The service was super friendly which is always so nice! Ordered the sausage egg biscuit which is enormous!! Made with house made sausage- delicious. Everything about this place is awesome- they were busy and service was organized and efficient! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Cynthia N.

Yelp
When multiple people recommend a spot I take it pretty serious. Krankies did not disappoint!! Multiple coworkers and friends recommended me to Krankies for their chicken and man oh mannn what a HIT! I got the Nashville hot chicken biscuit, potato wedges and the banana bread chai! I lovvved how flavorful the chicken was with the soft and fluffy biscuit! The chai I wish had more banana flavor I didn't taste any of it to be truthful. The chai itself is ok. In regards of the ambiance? Great spot to hang with friends or to do some light studying. There's a decent amount of tables for you to read if youre ok with a slightly louder environment. Definitely will be back! Salute to the quick service too!

Geoff D.

Yelp
Friendly folks (in spite of the name, it's not one of those joints where the staff is intentionally rude--BTW I never got the appeal of that.) There's some on street and nearby parking, decor is upscale industrial coffee shop, and they have some big ass biscuits with some really nice combos. They werer dang good biscuits and gravy and we were full.

Coco T.

Yelp
Friendly staff! Great seasonal options. Fun coffee rotations. Great place to knock out some work during the mornings.

Chelsea R.

Yelp
Made it back to krankies and finally got the hangover helper. D. E. L. I. C. I. O. U. S. I always see their specials and want to try them so that's up next. Went in and didn't have to wait long at all. I like how you can go find a spot to sit until they call your name when your food is ready. Such a solid place for breakfast or brunch

Joyti K.

Yelp
Omg Best chicken biscuit EVER!! It was perfectly cooked, soft buttery inside and crispy on the outside! The chicken was seasoned perfectly but what blew me away was that homemade sausage gravy!! Service as fast and pleasant We sat outside. Best North Carolina blue skys w the sun shining

Leo B.

Yelp
OK breakfast food but the Coffee was only OK. Interesting interior and location and very busy on a rainy day. I'd go again and

Madison F.

Yelp
Krankies stays stanky ‍ Hungover? You're in the right spot. Not hungover? You're still in the right spot I love Krankies and have never had a bad meal here or bad service. Everyone is super nice, food is hot & fast and the ambiance is hipster, bustling yet relaxed and fun. I had the sausage, egg and cheese biscuit which always slaps. They recently condensed their menu and I miss their ham jam biscuit :/ but you really can't go wrong with any menu item. Note: The food is indulgent and hefty - definitely come hungry. Coffee drinks are awesome as well. They have house blended & roasted coffee too which never disappoints.

Kyle J.

Yelp
The place was very clean and had plenty of seating for the amount of people in the restaurant. The staff was helpful and they did a great job of answering all the questions we had and they had our food and drinks out to us within 10 minutes of ordering. Food and drinks were some of the best we had on our trip and I would highly recommend this to friends

AJ C.

Yelp
Staple of downtown Winston-Salem!! Sandwiches are always a hit and can't go wrong with any of their choices. And always remember to grab a side of tots!! Expect long-lines especially on the weekends but well-worth the wait!

Julio G.

Yelp
As a med student this is always my go to spot with friends after an exam, and it's always as good as the first time. I love everything from their menu but I highly recommend their chicken biscuit with the honey Texas Pete sauce. I also love their club yeti biscuit with their delicious hash browns too, but their menu rotates so always new options to taste. The service is always great and there are always friendly faces taking the orders and making delicious coffees. And speaking of drinks, taste the alcoholic drinks as well the vanilla bourbon latte is great! Lastly, can't say enough about the great vibes there. It's always such a nice time hanging out there and just letting time pass by. I'll be back again soon!

Dani H.

Yelp
Always good food and good service here. I love downtown Winston and how much it's changed since I was younger, this spot is situated in a very cute area. There's a decent amount of seating although a good bit is outdoors so if it's raining you may have to wait. I wish they'd made the banana bread chai year round but I understand their seasonal menu sells. Definitely check this spot out if you're in the area!

Megan J.

Yelp
My husband and I went for breakfast. The parking area was smaller so we parked street-side. When we entered, we were able to order quickly even though the place was busy. Our order came out super fast, which pleasantly surprised us. The biscuits were soft and fluffy. The sandwiches were very good. The coffees comes from the coffee bar in another area. They were a perfect temperature & very good too. I got the breakfast egg, bacon and cheese sandwich & my husband got the Club Yeti. There's indoor & outdoor seating (which is dog friendly). Would come again!

Penny M.

Yelp
On my recent visit to North Carolina, I wanted to try as many biscuits as I could and Krankies came highly recommended. I visited on a Sunday morning and the entire downtown area was shut down. There just wasn't any activity at all. This is pretty typical for downtown business areas. When I turned the corner, I saw Krankies and found out where ALL the people were! Krankies is THE place to be on a Sunday morning in Winston-Salem if you're not in a church pew!! I had to park a block and a half away and walk back to the restaurant. As I approached, I saw lots of people sitting in the sun on tables and chairs. The "yard" where the tables were was decorated with yard art and had a funky vibe. Folks were enjoying some of the best looking biscuit sandwiches and coffee drinks I have seen in some time! The line was out the door, but moved quickly. I ordered the egg and cheese with sausage and an extra plain biscuit to go and coffee. Then I found a seat on a covered patio as there were no tables available outside (I actually dodged a bullet with this as within 5 minutes, we were in the middle of a torrential downpour!!). My coffee was ready right away and so I picked it up and enjoyed it while I waited for my biscuits! The rain storm caused the power to go out for a couple of minutes, but the folks at Krankies just kept on working. When my name was called, I went to the counter and picked up my bag. I returned to my table and opened my sandwich. I had to get a knife and fork to help me cut into it because it was huge! The biscuit was everything you look for in a good biscuit. Slightly crunchy and buttery on the outside and tender and hot on the inside. The egg, cheese and sausage were just there to fill out the sandwich - the star is the biscuit! I enjoyed my sandwich and the company of some kind people sitting next to me who let me borrow their umbrella to walk to my car. I then drove it back to their car and they jumped out and took it back. Wow! Such generosity. Southern hospitality is a real thing I discovered! I am writing this review 3 days after visiting Krankies and have a confession to make. That extra plain biscuit did not get eaten until this morning after traveling all the way back to California with me. I popped it in the oven to crisp it up and it was every bit as good as the one I had on Sunday! I would absolutely come back to Krankies if I find myself in Winston Salem again!

Spencer G.

Yelp
Ordered: Nitro Cold Brew (black), Mocha Oat milk Latte, vegan classic with hot honey. Summary: 3.5/5, rounded up to 4/5. Details below. Nitro seemed lacking of the nitro and was too old to be served in my opinion, was very bitter. 1/5 The latte was alright, also a bit bitter. My guess, the espresso was over extracted, but still not terrible. 3/5 Vegan Classic (chicken biscuit with hot honey) was alright. Did not seem that fresh, but the biscuit still had some softness to it. Interesting they had a vegan honey option, did not ask what it was made of. Loved the aesthetic and openness of the cafe/restaurant and outdoor seating. Lots of drinks and refreshing beverages.

Anthony C.

Yelp
Today I had breakfast at Krankie's in downtown Winston-Salem earlier today. I decided to try the chicken and biscuit with gravy and honey hot sauce, and it did not disappoint. The flavors were delicious and the biscuit was especially buttery and flaky. I also ordered a cappuccino, which was rich and creamy, and complemented my meal perfectly. Overall, I definitely recommend Kranky's for a delicious breakfast experience. The services is quick and efficient and the ambiance is relaxed. This is also a great place if you need to do school work.

Bennett L.

Yelp
Here to just talk about the Matcha. I've had the food and it's great, the costumer server was great, baristas are fun and funny, but the Matcha is the best in town. I had an iced Matcha with a splash on vanilla and oat milk, they know how to maintain the subtle matcha taste without over powering it with the vanilla. The ice to drink ratio was perfect as well. Place is cute too, with indoor, outdoor, and indoor with open window seating lol, definitely worth checking out.

Julianna A.

Yelp
Coffee was good, biscuits were okay, the ambiance was nice for breakfast or brunch. I wish they had more healthy options.

Montana H.

Yelp
Krankies is a known spot around town, but it disappointed us a bit. It has a cool industrial vibe. We stopped by on a Saturday morning and were able to order quickly. We ordered the dirty south biscuit: fried chicken with pimento cheese, bacon, and hot sauce. I wasn't a huge fan, there was just something odd about the taste. Our coffees were alright, but I do prefer other places around town.

Chip P.

Yelp
I'm a fat guy, I love biscuits, and I love fried chicken. I am rarely in Winston-Salem, but when I am, I frequently breakfast here. The food is absolutely outstanding. I got the Dirty South biscuit, which has bacon, pimento cheese, fried chicken, and hot sauce, and it's the real deal! You order from a window and they call your name when your order is ready. all of the servers are polite, helpful, and attentive. The place has a modern, wooden interior, and is very inviting. There is a ton of room for indoor seating, and a very nice courtyard for outdoor dining. I highly recommend this place! It's awesome.

Chelsea Y.

Yelp
I visited Krankies with high hopes for breakfast. However, my experience left me with mixed feelings, as the primary culprit was the watered-down coffee that accompanied my meal. Upon entering Krankies, I was immediately struck by the cozy, rustic atmosphere. The smell of baked biscuits wafted through the air, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The menu featured an array of biscuit options, with a friendly employee offering her recommendations. I eagerly ordered their biscuit with fried chicken and Texas Pete hot sauce. To complement my meal, I also ordered an iced latte. Sadly, the coffee was a major letdown as it became watered down very quickly and did not taste particularly better than the ones I make at home. The biscuit, on the other hand, was the saving grace of the meal. It was fresh, flaky, and filled with fried chicken and hot sauce, both of which complemented each other well. Overall, I will return for the biscuits, but I will probably be ordering my coffee elsewhere.

Tonya C.

Yelp
I'm a very picky person when it comes to breakfast sausage. BUT I decided to try one of the most popular breakfast items on the menu. I ordered their Krankies Classic biscuit, which is fried chicken breast on a biscuit smothered with sausage gravy all over it. (sausage gravy on the side for me) Ordered as it comes, is definitely a fork and knife meal. You seat yourself after ordering at the counter and they call our name from the bar for coffee orders to pick up and call your name when your order comes out to pick up at heat lamps next to register. Let me tell you!!!! First, the biscuit- it was PERFECTION For me, the perfect biscuit is warm and soft on the inside with a slight "crunch" on the outside. It did not have a doughy taste or feeling while eating. I can just envision a biscuit maker in the back rolling out that dough and cutting biscuits and baking them with love. Second - the chicken!! It was lightly seasoned for an overall balanced flavor. It was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Last but not least - the sausage gravy! It's seasoned perfectly; it's consistency is, how can I put this... chunky-smooth. The gravy doesn't skimp on sausage, which is great! The sausage taste is very mild so it also doesn't overpower flavors of the biscuit. It's absolutely delicious. The tastes of the biscuit, chicken, and gravy all together was a delectable combination and made my tummy very happy. It was hands-down one of the best biscuits I've had in a very long time. (Thank you biscuit maker.) I can't wait to return for breakfast or lunch! Oh! There's also a Krankies Classic with Texas Pete hot sauce and honey.

Kathy C.

Yelp
The biscuits were delicious and so filling! Be sure to try the potato wedges. Great coffee too! My lavender latte was wonderful!

Hannah H.

Yelp
Saturday staple. Krankies is absolutely one of the best spots in Winston' Salem. Their coffee is delicious, the jungle meets industrial ambiance makes the food and drinks that much better. This morning I had the classic chicken biscuit with honey and hot sauce and everything was cooked to perfection. Crispy chicken, fluffy and buttery biscuit, with the perfect amount of honey. I also had the smoked salmon toast and it was also really balanced. Toast comes from Camino Bakery and the smoked salmon isn't super over powering. Capers and cream cheese add a nice touch with a sprinkling of dill. Overall, it's an absolute must stop.

Samantha E.

Yelp
Probably here at least once a month! Their breakfast sandwiches and coffees are perfect for brunch or after a long morning if you're in downtown! The ambiance is very fun and the place has great seating space if you're with a larger group. The Yeti sandwich is my favorite, who doesn't love hash browns in their sandwich?!?

Jenny N.

Yelp
Pros: -Great and friendly service and spacey interior -Online ordering option which can help cut line/wait times -Pretty good chicken biscuit for the area -Decent quality coffee drinks Cons: -Can be a bit pricy in my opinion Parking can be a battle with any area near Bailey park, so give adequate time for this. My favorite here are the tater tots which are so crispy, delicious, and seasoned perfectly. Chicken sandwich is my next favorite with extra pickles, the buns are also very soft and delicate and the chicken always decently sized, juicy, and crunchy. I've tried a few of their biscuit ones (including the bird one, I forgot the name) and they were decent but nothing that blew my mind. They often have unique coffee flavors such as plum syrup for that one time they had Vietnamese plum coffee. Not very accurate flavor at all but appreciate their attempt on the flavor. A great place to study or sit and chit chat with friends.

Kimberly S.

Yelp
There's a line for a reason. Food and drinks are spot on. Will say that biscuit is the size of two meals and hard to put down after the first bite. I got the jalapeño jelly biscuit and it did not disappoint. We will definitely go again!

Laura R.

Yelp
My favorite spot to get a spicy chicken biscuit and drinks! They have Nashville Hot and it's amazing!! It's so good, one time I ate 2 back to back. It's just the right amount of heat. They have several other biscuits to choose from that look delicious but when I find something I like I stick with it. When ordering, you decide at the counter and then wait for your name to called. Doesn't take long but I've only ever tried krankies on a weekday. The one time I visited here on a Sunday the line was out the door so I choose to eat elsewhere. This place is VERY popular on the weekend. There are plenty of seasonal menu items that sound delicious, both drinks and food related. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, dogs are welcome as well. Parking can be tricky so watch out when backing up. I prefer to park on the street honestly. If they weren't so busy on the weekends and parking was better I'd probably eat here all the time!

Maggie K.

Yelp
If you're looking for a good breakfast/brunch spot in Winston Salem, make sure you stop by Krankies. They're known for their unique and rather large biscuits but honestly everything I've had there has been delicious. Krankies has a no-frills industrial feel with indoor and outdoor self service seating. After you order, you can grab some water from the water station, find a seat, and listen for your name to be called. Keep your ears open though, the first time I went I didn't hear my name called and my food sat for a bit. There's still a lot I want to try but I definitely recommend the Dirty Bird biscuit. The pimento cheese is

Yelp
Only ordered coffee but food from friends looked good and expressed how good it tasted. Portions were also big. Good place to go with friends when looking for fast and good food

Kyle B.

Yelp
I wanted so badly to absolutely love this place. Seeing their Instagram posts of daily specials and food always made my mouth water. I finally made it down here the other day to try the dirty bird with a side of tater tots. The girl working the front counter was rather cold and didn't seem like she wanted to be there at all. Not rude, just was not pleasant or welcoming by any means. I placed by order and waited for about 5-7 minutes until it was ready. The biscuit was a little dry for my liking. The piece of chicken was kind of unimpressive, not really that crispy. I wish there had been more pimento cheese, and the bacon wasn't anything out of the ordinary. The tater tots were the highlight for me. The portion size was large, they had great flavor and were super crunchy! They were my favorite part hands down. Not sure if this was just a one-off and they're normally better than this or if they just have a good social media manager. I'll definitely be back to give them another shot when I'm in town

Yelp
Really nice spot!! The chicken biscuit with pimento cheese and bacon was really tasty, however the classic kinda left something to be wanted, I'm not sure what it was missing! The atmosphere, coffee, and staff were super nice, but the parking is the biggest downside of the location. Overall, still a great place to check out and grab breakfast!

Yelp
Very disappointed with Krankies these days. A few years ago while staying in Winston-Salem for business, my wife and I found this place. At the time we thought the food and service was great. Fast forward to 2022... it's no longer a formal sit down and the Menu selection lacks.. The overall service isn't unpleasant but the place went from a nice, southern sit down to a glorified fast casual take out joint.. This post COVID restaurant protocol is destroying the soul of these once great little restaurants. You may disagree but that's just my take..

Yelp
Boy that jalapeno popper chicken sandwich was good. The chicken had a lot of flavors and that popper cheese spread is delicious. I also had the horchata coffee and it was SO GOOD my favorite thing on the menu I mean I think I'm addicted and I really hope that's not some kind of special. LOL

Yelp
Love the place... very retro and their medium roast coffee was awesome but their biscuits are dry. When I went back to ask for more gravy bc their "Hangover" biscuit was dry they CHARGED me extra.

Yelp
Truly one of the best biscuits I've had in a while!! Staff is so sweet coffee smells amazing and the aesthetic is fantastic. We had the Classic with sausage gravy and can I tell you I don't know if I can ever eat a chicken biscuit without gravy again? This thing is gorgeous. Can I say a biscuit tastes gorgeous? Oh well I did. It is beautiful, cooked with a crisp crust that maintains even with the gravy. I diiiiiie. The dirty bird has a pimento cheese that doesn't quit. Along with their smoked bacon. My goodness it's a chicken biscuit on steroids. I will make time for this biscuit experience. On top of this we had mimosas. I mean have you ever had a bad mimosa?! Delicious. I can't wait to go back. chefs kiss.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot on the weekend. When I wake up and want some good food that I didn't cook, I go here. Krankie's simply cannot be beat. Every item on the menu is pretty much guaranteed to be delicious. I've been to this place many times, but only recently I ordered the Hangover Helper. They basically put everything they have on this biscuit, and it is a work of art honestly. I prefer mine with some more hot sauce so when I got home I doused it in some Cholula's. delicious. what more can i say. Literally every single thing on their menu is great, this is one of Winston's best and most reliable restaurants. Oh and their coffee is awesome as well. You can't beat it, Krankie's never, ever misses. And if you're not in the mood for a coffee to go along with your breakfast/lunch, they have a good selection of other beverages in the fridge. Love the art machine in there as well. Staff is always efficient and very pleasant. Cannot recommend this place enough. Oh and the Hangover Helper is a fork + knife situation, it is messy, but so so good. The only thing I can say after eating their food is "goddamn". Krankie's is a treasure of this city. If you think you might want to try this place, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
If you live or visit you should come here. You can park a block away at the courthouse for a $1.00 an hour and walk a block. It looks like a converted warehouse with original flooring and a definite rustic feel. The food was excellent, my son and I both saw the same thing called The Dirty Bird, fried chicken on a biscuit with pimento cheese....oh my goodness so delicious...the coffee was great with it and I wish I bought two they were so tasty.

Yelp
Let yelp guide this breakfast choice. Looking for a quick breakfast spot but also a sucker for a good biscuit. Order food and drinks at the counter and pay up front. They'll call your name for your drink order and then also for food as well. Even for dining in, the food is bagged, which is nice for cleanliness but also good to carry multiple items. The lightly fried chicken breast was delicious and the biscuit was soft but still a bit dense with some weight behind it and it stood up well to the sausage gravy. Next time I'll get the hot chicken Came in right before everyone else had the same idea, there was a line right as I left about 10am on a Saturday.
