I did not expect to like Krazy sushi. Now let me explain. A large group of us were going to celebrate our birthdays and we had our hearts set on Umami up the road. I'm an Umami diehard fan and the wait is always 30 min*. When my friends found out it was going to be 30-40 min they weren't interested in waiting and said "let's just go try this other place". Hold up wait, what...no! I've never been there, I have not read the Yelp reviews and it sent me into a full on dramatic tailspin. I didn't want to be selfish and try to go with the flow, so I decided to go and was prepared to not like Krazy sushi whatsoever. Whelp....I was WRONG!
There was no wait, and we were able to get our party of 8 seated immediately. TBH. I thought that wasn't a good sign that there wasn't a packed house around 6pm dinner time.
Full disclosure, I'm extra particular. Not only do I expect the quality of the sushi to be top-notch but I don't eat traditional rice rolls. I don't care for rice and I don't splurge on eating out very often. So when I decide to, it's absolutely got to be worth it! Don't get me wrong, I will eat all the delicious side dishes like Bulgogi, chicken teriyaki, side salad and fun skewers which I know is not low-fat but something I look forward to in addition to my no Rice rolls. I greatly appreciate when AYCE sushi places offer of a variety of no rice rolls, which KRAZY DID....ty!
So here's the skinny, pun intended. I tried all the rice rolls that did not have any tempura in them, which I believe there were two. The carpaccio hands-down was my favorite. I had the yellow tail with jalapeño, and the salmon with lemon slice very fresh buttery texture and I got two orders of each. You're limited to one per person, but since the whole table was AYCE, I was able to snag more than one for myself. That was the highlight if you ask me.
I tried the tuna poki and it was not good. I would not get that again. My husband agreed the tuna didn't taste fresh and it had a weird texture to it like it was frozen, perhaps.
I was really looking forward to the cocaine, no rice rill, which was more like a salad kind of meh.
The highlights were yellowtail and salmon, carpaccio, stuffed tomato, beef bowl, Gogi, green muscles.
Our server Victoria was incredibly polite and thorough about explaining anything on the menu, which was very kind of her because we had some sushi newbies with us. As the dining room got busier, she was unable to be as attentive, but we understood.
Would I go back to Krazy sushi, yes. Would I chose them over Umami, no. However, I was pleasantly surprised they accommodated us so quickly offered so many rice rolls and, the quality of a majority of their sushi was really great.
