London’s New Restaurant Openings

"We really like Kricket’s cool Soho location, and now this Indian restaurant is opening a fourth spot (they’ve already got outposts in White City and Brixton) in Canary Wharf. All we ask is that they serve their excellent Keralan fried chicken.   " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Outstanding service with awesome food. Don't tell mum but I can't taste the difference!! Highlights include the perfectly cooked prawns, Bhapa Doi (sweetened yoghurt) with mango Mille-Feuille and the legendary Claypot Baked Cod (large dreamy flaky chunks of moist cod with a crispy skin in a rich cocunut sauce - how does chef get it flaky and crispy?). Thank you chef for customising my wife's Bhapa Doi with extra mango and cream. It really looked and tasted sensational. It was the best food experience this year! Don't forget to round off with the beautifully balanced masala chai in a glass... authentic and very very good. We look forward to trying the new Autumn/Winter menu.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch experience here - Holly has great service and introduced the menu very well. The food is really nice and in great portions, delicious, hot - the prawns, the lamb & fried chicken, and everything is just so tasty. The desserts are fresh and delicious. Moreover, the cocktails are very refreshing. Definitely recommend!

I’ve never understood when I’ve been told that the UK has great Indian restaurants until I decided to try one in London! We were not let down at all by every meal. The location is very unassuming with its minimal exterior but simple and functional on the inside with vibrant colours to match. Going out with kids also makes it a challenge to find a decent restaurant that caters as such, and Kricket were amazing due to their Kids Thali options. We had the 3 small plates with the Cod as a main and every dish was fantastic. Uniquely tasting Curry Leaf Mayo paired nicely with chicken while the banana leaf wrapped Cod brought on nostalgia from cooking back home in Durban, South Africa. Will be trying out other locations soon!

Visited Kricket Canary Wharf and had a great experience overall. The restaurant is spacious with a relaxed atmosphere, and staff were friendly and helpful, especially for first-time diners. Tried the Mangalorean Chicken Gassi and the Karnatakan Pork Neck — both were rich, flavourful, and went perfectly with rice. Also had the masala naan, which was tasty, though the topping slightly overpowered the curries when dipping. Finished the meal with a warm and fragrant masala chai, which was a highlight. The baby changing facilities were spacious and very comfortable — a thoughtful detail that doesn’t go unnoticed. Would definitely return for a curry fix.

We came for an early dinner and the food was mostly good! I had the tomato rasam pani puri (nice bite) then between the two of us, we shared the Keralan fried chicken (great texture and flavour), Recheado butter prawns (the flavour was on point and it was my favourite), grilled squash makhani (felt the squash wasn't seasoned even when in the rich sauce) and the cod (perfectly cooked) with sides of paratha, rice and the green mango kachumber salad (cut through some of the richness of the mains). The staff were helpful and polite.

Just had a beautiful lunch in Kricket Canary Wharf. Our Butter Prawns starter was delicious and the star along with Holly who served us, she was delightful. I ordered baked cod confused by the menu under the heading “grills & curries” I thought this would come with a curry sauce, but it didn’t. I wanted a curry so that was a little disappointing, but my fault. So I can’t judge on the curries, of which I’m a connoisseur. However, the cod was beautifully cooked but the sauce was a little spicy and overpowering for the delicate flavour of the cod, but still very good. The naan bread was baked fresh and fantastic, as was the pilau rice. The restaurant itself is very modern and minimalist, with big bulky basic wooden tables. No soft furnishings so the atmosphere isn’t as cosy as other places. All in all very nice place, great service and delicious fresh food.

The food here is very good, and freshly prepared. But, it is no better than a local Indian eatery, and comes with a higher price tag. Would I come back again? Of course. Largely because it is the only decent Indian restaurant I have tried so far in Canary Wharf. The lack of competition benefits this place, just as the land of the blind makes the one-eyed man a king.

Visited on Monday 14th July. Large party. A bit hit and miss. Loved cocktail, starters and dessert. Mains were disappointing. Cocktail - Anar margarita was great; LOVED the starters- Samphire pakode were amazing, Duck Seekh kebabs were amazing... and the Kerala fried chicken (nothing Indian about this) was also really really good. With that curry mayo. Delicious! Desserts - the mango Mille Feuille and Pista Kulfi were dee-lish too. Which brings me onto the Mains. Really hit and miss. More miss. Chicken curry was average; Pork curry wasn't great; the Awadi lamb neck Biryani just wasn't right. There was still bits of marinade in one of the layers! Only thing that was good was the baked cod. That, and the butter paneer masala curry from the kids menu! Menu seems to have a lot going on - fusion, south India , then lucknow for biryani ... Maybe focus on one region and do it right. I would go again - this time I know what mains not to get.
