Kroger

Since there isn't a place to write my thoughts in their receipt survey, I thought I would post them publicly instead. As someone who currently toils in two different food and customer service jobs, I must admit a big disappointment in both customer service, and product quality at this location. I had also worked this particular Christmas Eve at a customer service job before arriving to pick up our orders we had placed well in advance for today. We have had done this at this location every Christmas Eve for a few years now with awesome success. We do not get to enjoy seafood at home but on Christmas Day, so it's always something to look forward to and add to the usual Christmas celebrations. My mother had placed an order for steamed shrimp to be ready at 4pm Christmas eve with well over a week in advance. When we arrived, at 4pm, to claim our order, we were given our order. It was cold, which perplexed me, as the paperwork which had specified "steamed shrimp" was also attached. The seasoning was accurate to the paperwork. However, plainly, the preparation was not. We had ordered it steamed, hot. It was quite cold to the touch through the packaging. I asked why it wasn't steamed, they had apparently taken too many orders and couldn't fulfill them. Typical management, I have been in that situation before and it sucks as a worker. I get it, you still have to smear on that fake smile and empty upbeat on your face and bear at least attempting to be accommodating when the higher ups utterly shaft you. This is not a failure of the worker, but a failure of management at this location. There are calculations based on equipment and available labor, not to mention their experience to draw on to understand the capacity of your capability on a holiday. This location has been here for decades, they have had plenty of time to figure this out. However, when asked how to reheat the shrimp on our own, the answer of a seafood department worker cannot simply just be limited to, as Dankiel put it; "Just pop it in the microwave!" I then asked for further detail, as I have operated not only the equipment that they are also currently paid to operate, but also most certainly my own microwave. When asked for even simply a duration of time for the shrimp to be nuked, the summation of their knowledge of a product that they are employed to sell was a simple shrug of their shoulders. Shameful. I understand that as a lowly unit cog your knowledge is likely limited, this is valid. However, I am in that place every day of my own work, in front of customers. When one does not know what the answer to a customer's question, it is okay to say 'I don't know', IF AND ONLY IF that is followed by, 'let me ask someone know may know the answer to that' or some variation, and then you seek that knowledge from someone who does. At least make an attempt to accommodate a problem that was generated by the store that affects the customer. We later rounded back and had asked another employee about the shrimp. They said they would not steam it, and to put it in the microwave for 30 seconds with a damp paper towel on top. At least they made an attempt. This is a yearly treat for my mother and I, who knows how many more of these we will have together. Through disease and atrophy, she persists. It's a constant source of inspiration. I include this not to guilt trip, but instead to try and to provide some context as to the sheer immensity of our shared disappointment. In all my blessed, wonderful years with her, I have NEVER, EVER seen her visibly disappointed in shrimp, much less actually leave some on her plate that she had taken. Never. The shrimp was tough, and chewy. It was quite obvious they had not seen a single wash before preparation from the amount of feces found in them. We tried eating them cold, and also with the warming method suggested by Eddie. We had ordered two pounds of shrimp, and we had well over a pound left. We usually polish it off. The shrimp was inedible. Merry Christmas, what a disappointment.

I have been a regular shopper until recently. I witnessed three large rats scurrying into their nest under an isle. I found that the boxes around their nest were sticky and smelled of urine. Some had been gnawed on. I am returning all of my groceries from Kroger and never shopping there again. I can trust Martins, Aldi, Food Lion and Sharp Shoppers to run clean stores.

Had the displeasure of entering this Kroger looking for a premade ANYTHING on my road trip today. The deli was completely devoid of anything remotely edible including even a pack of pre boiled eggs or chicken salad. Come on. Martins down the road was where it was at. Kroger’s really disappointed today. At least Danny wasn’t there.

I REALLY like Kroger… ALOT of GREAT PRICES!!! Better than Walmart and Food Lion!!! However I was just in Kroger, that had a sale on Coffeemate Original buy 3 pay $4.99 each!!! They had NONE!!! Also they had a Clearance item Paprika Shrimp wrapped with bacon, had 2 different price stickers on it! One said $6.99 and the other said, $2.99!!! After trying to make a point with the front line Sales Lady… I decided NOT to PURCHASE THIS ITEM!!! Now… I have LOOKED for THESE PRODUCTS for SOME REASON it HAS BEEN TAKEN OFF the SHELVES!!! Curel Hydration Wet Skin Moisturizer and SUAVE ROLL ON DEODORANT IN BABY POWER SCENT I know now that Kroger carries Night Hawk Frozen Meals. Some are Lo-Carb and WORKS WONDERS for People who WORRY and CARE about their WEIGHT and HEALTH!!! Look at Photo Below Please, Plus there are OTHER TYPES OF FROZEN MEALS AVAILABLE. I know Kroger carries Miss Vicki’s Potato Chips… however…THANK YOU FOR ORDERING Miss Vicki’s Salt and Vinegar Potato CHIPS!!! While in Kroger… I was looking for a Small Bag of Walnuts…they ONLY had BIG BAGS for BAKING!!! PLEASE… ALSO START SELLING… REDUCED SODIUM REAL BACON PIECES in the Dressing Section!!!

Kroger has a Nice Staff!! I Love their Deli - Best Fried chicken ever!! Rotterssie Chickens too and All the meats to Choose From are Wonderful. I love the Seafood Dept and Everything is Fresh. The Daily Specials are Great. Your Pharmacist Robert Retired and Attitudes have Developed in Your Pharmacy but I corrected the Problem. Everything Else is Great and I like your Specials 10 for$10.

Disappointed. It's 8:30 am the Monday before thanksgiving the first 2 things on my list are celery and romaine. Both out of stock.They told me they are waiting on the truck. I've come to get used to that at this location, however I would have thought they would stocked up enough get through the weekend and into Monday on Thanksgiving staples. Ill shop at another store for me and my clients this year. I have always chosen kroger, but it seems more and more they are out of stock, especially on produce. I am a personal chef so I have certain products that I need to get. I understand that things happen. It does seem to me to be a given that a lot of staples are going to not be available on Monday mornings.

I placed an order 3 days ago for a birthday cake to pick up Saturday at 11:00 a.m. there was no cake to be picked up for the birthday party this evening

Nice, clean, well laid out grocery store. I got a big cookie for my daughter-in-law’s Birthday and a nice lady in the deli put the name on it for me.

They don't require customers to wear masks. They do on paper, but they don't in practice. I have seen whole packs of mask-less Covidiots roaming the aisles, and it's really annoying having to switch aisles to stay away. I have stopped going there.

Friendly people and on the way to or home from Shenandoah Nation Park. Nice selection of things and have anything you could need during your stay.

I just have to go on a little rant here... Firstly, please know that the shopping experience itself was fine. The cashier was quick and pleasant, the bagger was nice, the store was reasonably stocked, the lines such as they were moving along at a good pace. Everything was fine as far as the store shopping experience. I noticed while at the cashier, that there are little stickers for items that aren't bagged, like jugs of milk, what have you. It's just a little "You saved a bag! Yay!" type note on these stickers. Well, when I get home I'm starting to notice the items are... not carelessly bagged, but rather the bags are carelessly used if that makes sense. In the spirit of back to school season I decided to do a little scientific observation. I purchased 38 items today, and carried them into my house with 22 plastic bags. Using the calculator/phone in my pocket (take that, Mrs. Morrison!) I calculated that this comes out to 1.72727 etc items per bag. Having a 'use less plastic' campaign whilst putting 1-2 items per bag is worthy of its own essay on the use of irony for comedic purposes. Just be aware of what you're doing, both as employees and shoppers. This is my sign to start shopping with reusable bags.

It's OK place, very very average! The only thing great about it, is that they were open!

I enjoy shopping at Kroger. Wide variety of gluten free products and very good variety of produce selections and quality. employees are helpful and pleasant. Good job!

Yes the store interior is a bit dated, but they carry a great selection of organic and specialty foods at affordable prices in a presentable display. Other local grocery stores are either extremely expensive or very limited in organic food. For some people this does not matter, but I have multiple food allergies and feel much better when eating organic food, so it matters to me, and my wallet. Great beer collection in support of local brewers. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I have nothing bad to say about this store. It's where I choose the shop. I stop at the deli every week, and everything is clean and sparkling. I have never been offended by anything in that area or the entire store, it is very clean all around. Have you been inside Krogers? Did you like their selection? Was it clean and organized when you were there? I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I love shopping in Kroger's, however in this particular location they seem to want to follow you around in the store to assume you are stealing. After I finished checking out my items, a male worker stops me to see if I paid for my water and proceeds to reach for my receipt in my hands. It has been other instances where they "profile" particular customers while walking in the store. They feel the need to sound of on the intercom for people to huddle around the produce section to watch people steal produce which is ridiculous haha but be my guest.

Nice store. Great selection. Nice associates. Tough location to get to on east side of Harrisonburg esp during high traffic volume.

It's a good grocery store, but more frequently than you'd think, they're not open the advertised 24 hours because of maintenance or stocking issues. And the selection is a little wanting in some spots. But this is one of my main go-to grocery stores.

Great pharmacy even with the store smelling like fish lol. Pharmacy staff has great deals on goodrx! And staff will even look for additional discounts. Love them

Great low prices! Kroger's Simple Truth brand is pretty awesome. Clean aisles, friendly employees. Very easy shopping and good setup of the store. Only thing is though is I wish they had a few more variety's in their produce section. This was my main shopping store until I found Martin's. But I still come here for other things :) Kroger is the best!

I'm writing an update to my review after speaking with the store manager. I appreciate his willingness to consider the situation even though there was nothing he could do. This IS customer service, even though the situation was not positive for us. The problem was more on the Lowes side not accepting their gift cards. This also was remedied by Lowes after the fact. My purpose for writing these reviews was to make people aware of the NO REFUND policy for gift cards. In addition, the manager said he intended to make this well posted as a result of our problem. I appreciate again his willingness to put systems in place to avoid this kind of problem in the future.

The selections in their natural foods section are really good! And the store brands in that department are good bargains! And their deli sandwiches are awesome!

Beware of buying gift cards here. A recent one was not properly validated, and even with the receipts, it is impossible to find anyone knowledgeable enough to discuss it with us. No one knows when the person will actually be in the store. Two phone calls, trips to the store and faxing and we are no closer to resolution.

I wish I could give half stars and give this grocery a 2.5. First, it's just worn out. It has a dirty feel like everything could use a good scrub. I've shopped here a few times, so I'm thinking it is now mgmt. issues. The produce is never fully stocked. The organic produce section is never in order. They do, however, have a nice selection of organic dry goods. You'll get the staples here. There's no effort re: customer service. I rarely call a store to advise, but it was 'that bad.' The 'cart pusher' couldn't be bothered to assist with a question. He referred me to the customer service desk 20' away then went over to a non-busy cashier to talk. They weren't even busy. I was told they didn't have my product, but next trip, there it was in quantity on the shelf. The parking lot is shared and in sad shape. I'm from the area originally. It's sad how far down the Kroger chain has gone. Luckily, there's a locally owned co-op that is fantastic we've found. They know customer service and how to properly manage a grocery. It will be by necessity that we ship this Kroger store in the future.
