Meal Kits Find a New Home in Grocery Stores | Eater

"A large grocery chain with an in-house meal-kit line marketed as a 'dinner in 20 minutes' because chopping, dicing, and measuring are done for the customer; these kits are often merchandised in the deli as a total-solution option, and the retailer plans to sell both its in-house line alongside an acquired meal-kit brand to complement offerings." - Chason Gordon

I walk here at least 3 times a week for a few items, so I’m here quite a bit😂 Employees are always so nice. I buy a lot of the Monster Ultra Paradise, so I think I’m part of the reason it’s often low on stock. Same with the Halo Top Cookies and Brownies flavor and Keto buns…sorry!

It is nice that there is a grocery downtown. The outside of the grocery, however, is scary. We were in town for the fireworks and upon walking down the street there was a homeless woman and a few drugged up individuals right outside the grocery on the sidewalk. Very scary. We reluctantly walked back that direction to go to the store later that afternoon and the homeless woman was trying to get people to buy her flavored water. We walked into the store and it was very nice and pleasant. The outside, however, can be sketchy. There needs to be something done about the people that hang outside the store.

I will no longer shop at this store, kroger let drunks sit right in front of the store, all day drinking and leaves trash everywhere. Noone should feel uncomfortable to shop or get out the uber being harassed by drunks begging for money. Its pathetic and sad. Kroger get on to the management team and do something, flower pot near door has beer cans and trash and empty liquor bottles. Edited. Public restrooms are nasty, horse flies flying around, only one stall available, the other stall had feces all over the wall and floor, and the handicap one is closed and out of order. No toilet paper, and even when you walk in the hall leading to bathroom it stinks so bad walking past the mens restroom.

Google
Horribly managed. Went recently and had no carts, bare shelves, high prices for low quality food items. Wasn’t the first time I had a terrible experience, would recommend any other nearby supermarket before this one. I never come here unless I have no other options. Edit: forgot to add the self checkout machines are awful. They don’t ring up sale prices consistently, take forever to use, and don’t have enough room if you have more than a few items. Employees obviously don’t get paid enough so they’re rude and don’t care. Also they always have a fully armed police officer sitting there watching you check out.

I really like this Kroger. We have been here the three or four times we have been in town for volleyball tournaments. We are able to get fresh fruit, veggies, deli sandwiches and every other staple we need for our stay. They have a great selection on most everything. The staff is very friendly and willing to help.

Great place to get fresh donuts .99 each at 8 am! Great savings on Cliff Bars. Friendly employees, and I really enjoyed talking with Mabel in self checkout, she was a sweet angel. 🎄

Google
I really like this Kroger & shop here all of the time, Yet, everytime I get used to an item, they always discontinue the items that I really like. The, "Mrs. Thelma's cookies all three flavors. Chocolate Chip, The Monster Cookie, & The Snicker doodle has all been discontinued. I used to purchase them all of the time. So, no there's not anymore single, Mes. Thelma's cookies, or any single ice cream really to be able to eat on the go. All of the other ice cream are boxed up, or in pint containers. The rest of the items that are discontinued that I can remember are the, The Sweet & Salty Honeynut Chex mix, which were My favorite, The Margherita DiGiorno pizza, the single boxes of spicy & regular chicken sandwiches that were less than $2.00, The Curly's pulled pork, The Rolo chocolate candy bars, & A few more other items. Also, when I have coupons & try to use them, half of My coupons aren't able to get used, because the store doesn't carries half of the items. Now The Kroger Delivery: I've done Kroger delivery A few times & we as shoppers should be able to message the shopper, because once we receive A notification that an item is out of stock, our only options are, Yes, to only 1 specific similar item that automatically shows, or just No, Thank you. It's like we're not giving an option to select our own specific replacement option when we receive the, "Out of stock notification". Also, the delivery drivers should be able to call, or send us A notification that they're going to be late, or that they're lost, because the G.p.s. doesn't always send the delivery drivers to the correct location, also A few times the delivery drivers were extremely late & I would just be waiting outside for an extremely long time. Thank you.

Google
Tried to get assistance on a topic I was unsure of, and the woman had such a condescending tone and hung up before I could ask more follow up questions. Quit if you don't like your job, but if this women is interacting like this with more customers than just me, this store will lose business.

Yelp
I read some of the other reviews and I guess I went at good times because I didn't see any homeless people and the employees were very nice. Came here to see if they had Luna bars and was very happy when I found them. And they were on sale 4/$5 which was even better. Great deal!! I also wanted something sweet and ended up with this chocolate tres leches style cake. Never had anything like this before and it wasn't bad. Not sure if I like all the liquid but I did like the flavor. And it was only 200 calories. If you've never had a cake like this I would definitely recommend trying it. And they had other flavors if chocolate isn't your thing. Would also recommend going to the customer service desk and signing up for a Kroger card so you can get the sale items. Only takes a few minutes to fill out the paper.

Yelp
Yup, it's loud and a little sketchy. But everything is right there downtown!!! If that's not good enough then go back to your suburban life in a cookie cutter town. A vibrant community thrives with a good grocery store in an otherwise food desert. Well done Kroger!

Diana S.

Yelp
Who reviews a supermarket??? No one!!! With that being said...... Fellow shoppers ~ Stay far away from this Kroger. Expired meats, stale pantry items, low stocked shelves, homeless camps, Kroger employees sitting on the Starbucks counter, rude store associates, mismanagement led by "Mohammad" and "Amy", filthy floors, nasty carts, tacky associates smoking in the front as you walk in that can't even say hello much less blow their smoke in the other direction and worthless "deals" on poor quality items. They will LIE and overcharge you then use the off duty police presence as a manipulation tactic to remove you rather than REFUND YOUR MONEY WITH PROOF OF RECEIPT. BOYCOTT DONT SHOP!!!! Needlers and Whole Foods are priced a little higher however as the saying goes "you get what you pay for". Fun fact! Kroger has a 2.7 overall customer satisfaction rating. They KNOW about the issues and don't care. Remember that friends and DONT SHOP!!!!!

Yelp
Indianapolis, IN - Normally I don't rate grocery stores but this one really had me thinking. I'm staying in a local hotel so needed to do some Krogering. This Kroger while small, was clean and neat. Not a lot of organic fruit options but produce overall looked fresh. The deli department had lots of takeaway options. The local beer selection could have been better. Would have liked some local single can choices. The checkout process was a breeze and the store employees were very friendly and helpful considering I did not have a Kroger card. So you are probably wondering why the one star review. As I exited the store to wait for my Uber back to the hotel, my shopping cart wheels IMMEDIATELY locked up. IMMEDIATELY as in within 6 inches of the door threshold. I was shocked and surprised. I had to drag my cart out of the way to keep it from blocking the door. And as I waited for my Uber this sequence was repeated multiple times by other shoppers with larger and fuller carts. Then since it was raining each had to carry their groceries over to the waiting Uber. IN THE RAIN! Look I understand that shopping cart theft is real but would it be possible to set the tolerance just a few more feet out? I don't get to Kroger very often. I almost have a nostalgia for it as it was my grocery store growing up and I was excited to go Krogering again. However this experience really soured my thinking. I'm not returning to this store while in town.

Yelp
This place has gone WAY down hill the past few years - I'm guessing the result of a bad management change. If you aren't being accosted by the homeless on your way into the store, you're being rushed out the door at the end of the night by a bunch of slacker employees who'd obviously be anywhere other than work. This girl on the loud speaker tonight was something extra. "Attention, shoppers. The store will be closing in 7 minutes. If you aren't checked out by that time, the registers will be shut off, the doors will be locked and you will have to come back tomorrow.". Seriously? By the way, there was still 15 minutes til closing time when that 7 minute "warning" was issued. Needlers is more expensive but is a MUCH more enjoyable shopping experience. Whole Foods, also. This Kroger SUCKS.

Yelp
Not clean. Doesn't really seem safe. Parking is hard to fine. It's on the outer parts of downtown

Yelp
On Monday July 15 2024 my doctor called in a prescription to Krogers at 4202 S East St. Indianapolis, IN. I received a text from Krogers stating that they received it. On Wednesday July 17 2024 I called the pharmacy to check on my prescription and was told by Sunshine that she could not fill it until Thursday July 18. She also told me I would have to call back on Thursday to give them permission to fill my prescription. I ask her why I needed to call her back. I just gave her permission to do that. She started babbling on and I said " that's bullshit" and I hung up. Within seconds I received a call from Sunshine yelling me that Krogers would no longer fill any prescription for me because I used inappropriate language. Again this stored is located at 4202 S East St. Indianapolis, Indiana. I have since found out that there is no law that states if you are prescribed a pain med that you have to call to give the pharmacy permission to fill your prescription. Plain and simple it is harassment.

Yelp
This Kroger is an absolute sh!t hole. First off we're past most supply chain issues with food but they still can't keep shelves stocked. Also, deli and meat department are abysmal where in the world does the one major grocery store in a city close their counters daily at 5pm. Fix this ghetto market--as I will not drop another dime at this place, and happily drive further distance for a place with stocked shelves and staffing.

Yelp
Sparkling new and stuffed to the brim. They sell a few local products like Frittle and Broad Ripple Chip (yay!). They also source a lot of produce from farms in Michigan, which is nice to keep it in the Midwest. They sell sushi, as well as made-to-order Mexican foods, pizza and more. There's also a create your own salad bar. The people we interacted with were friendly and I liked the size of the grocery: Big enough but not overwhelming. You can park in the garage on the east side of the building for free and access the grocery from the garage.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
Very, very similar to what was here before. They're working with a fairly small space for a grocery so I think they do a decent job with what they have. A few of the standouts during my visit include the impressive cheese counter with big wheels ready for fresh packaging, an impressive salad bar and wine and dessert cases. I also noticed that this Kroger has adopted the new prepared meals concept (similar to Blue Apron). The flower section was meh -they could use a larger variety of offerings and the prices always seem so salty compared to Trader Joe's and Aldi. The parking makes this spot a winner- first and second floors of the building (covered) and free. You can also find street parking and bike parking easily. It would hurt for them to offer some of the interactive tasty stations and heightened elements that other groceries are now offering.

Yelp
How are onions always out of stock in this enormous Kroger? While the downtown location and garage parking are convenient, this Kroger's produce section could definitely double in size. Legitimate selection of wine and craft beers, however. Check-out lines move pretty efficiently.

Yelp
This is one of the old Marshes that Kroger acquired after Marsh went out of business. Supposedly, Kroger spent $2 million renovating this location, but it's hard to tell what they changed (other than the signs). The food court is still the primary reason to come here. You can get 2 pieces of chicken (dark meat), 2 sides, and a dinner roll for $7.

Yelp
Is this the best Kroger that you'll find in the Indy Metro area? Nope. Is it better than the one that's located at 16th? Oh hell yes. Living downtown, we don't have a ton of grocery options: Kroger at 16th St. and Needlers (formerly Marsh) were pretty much all that was available. I was happy to hear that Kroger was going in and replacing Marsh as I am an avid Kroger + Aldi shopper. Still, I'd prefer Aldi for most items, but Kroger has a few items I can't steer away from that Aldi can't deliver (Sugar free wheat bread, bananas, etc.). That being said, this Kroger has nothing wrong with it at all. People keep complaining that they don't see a lot of changes given that they spent $$$$ on the renovations, but who cares? It's a great grocery store, close-ish to IUPUI and downtown, free COVERED parking garage, and the prices are awesome. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5? Comparing it to other Krogers in the area, this one doesn't have as many "fancy" features that one could find elsewhere. Still, a good grocery stop to for those living/working downtown.

Yelp
Pros: +Location in downtown Indy. +Easily accessible parking garage for quick in and out shopping trips. +Bright, clean and new. +Looks to be decent selection. Cons: I went with a friend to get balloons for our friend's birthday. We approached the floral/balloon counter and no one was there. After two minutes, we asked the help desk if someone was coming. They were no help. After almost ten minutes of waiting, an employee finally said "Do you need help?" She was nice and helped us, but took a looong time. It was like Mr. Bean in Love Actually at the jewelry counter slow. Customer service is lacking but otherwise is a decent store.

Yelp
I'm so happy that Kroger but the space and invested in the downtown area! I love Kroger and I love having one less than a mile from my house now. They did a wonderful job with the renovations and using the incredible space that was left behind. You can find just about anything you need for your next party or to stock your fridge in this store. They have a large produce section with a great selection. They also have an incredible cheese selection! I wasn't familiar with Murray's but the samples were delicious. This place is also an incredible place to drop in for a quick lunch!! They have an amazing salad bar, sandwich station, pizza shop, fresh sushi, pre-made snacks (like cheese and fruit, salads, etc). It's quick and cheaper than you'd pay at a nearby coffee shop. Something i really love is that they carry quite a few local brands- juice that's cold pressed in Broadripple, salad dressing from Greenwood, produce, etc. It makes a chain more appealing in a downtown market if they offer items like this. Overall it's a great grocery store that has just about everything you're looking for (including gluten free Kroger brand pasta). And they did an amazing job with their grand opening! Welcome to the city center Kroger, we're glad to have you! :)

Yelp
By far my favorite Kroger in the city. My family and I moved to Mapleton Fall Creek and that is between Broad Ripple and Downtown, therefore it was challenging to find a grocery store to shop close but this Kroger is a one stop shop. I love the fact that I can get everything here, and the produce is always super fresh. They also have a great meat selection which is a huge plus for my family. The parking is covered and sometimes full, but if it is raining it is covered.

Yelp

Yelp
Choices are many, clean store and good shopping atmosphere BUT! Why is there a sign at the front entrance announcing Mask required for customers and employees, but over 50 % of customers and Some employed are NOT wearing Any...???!!!

Yelp
Kroger on 71st and Georgetown Indianapolis Indiana restrooms are filthy. A couple of year ago I had use the restroom and they were filthy then, well here we are 2 years later and they are worst. They are two single occupancy and urine all over the floor, no tissue or paper towels to dry your hand. One of the restrooms had so much fluid on the floor I stepped back so my feet wouldn't get wet. As a patron I had the option to leave, but what about the workers? Especially those who cook food and go back to work after using those restrooms. #I won't be shopping there anymore.
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
This Kroger is exactly what downtown Indy needed in order to make it just that more livable. Here is a list of things I like about this Kroger: -easy, free parking. A luxury for any downtown space. -comprehensive amount of grocery items (not just food). -large selection of pre-made foods (deli, sushi, salad, pizza, etc.). -lots of cheese and lots of wine. Here is a list of things I think could be improved at this Kroger: -more variety of produce/deli items -larger quantities of produce items (fruits and veggies are out of stock often) Overall, the experience of grocery shopping at this Kroger is pleasant and efficient. If you are looking for fresh produce, though, I would recommend a different grocery store.

Yelp
Wow what can I say about this store. They have been great during these unforeseen times. From managers asking if you have found everything to workers being quick, efficient and friendly whilst checking out. They've been awesome at keeping selves stocked and full of food as best as they can do compared to others on the south side where I work. Thankyou downtown Kroger!!

Yelp
Good full service grocery, but dirty entrance. Nice that a parking garage is connected, though. Baggers and cashiers are nice and helpful.

Yelp
Please lower your expectations upon entering... It may have a Starbucks, but doesn't mean the building has the normal appeal of other Kroger's. Having been a Kroger customer for years, starting in Louisville and having wonderful experiences with my family it was great!! Moved to Atlanta and had great service from the Publix stores, higher priced but service was always outstanding. Moving back to the Midwest where Kroger(Payless) were my place to shop I had great service in the Anderson, In area. Yes, older store but was always clean and staff ready to assist. That was my favorite place to shop for 5 recent years, including covid. I recently moved to the Zionsville, In which was told to me by at least a dozen customer's this is the " Crappy Kroger" .... Try to go anywhere else for many reasons. I have been in upper management in retail for over 25 years and know that opinions may be sometimes, not completely correct. Having been to the location on Michigan road Indianapolis, Indiana. Multiple times, it is correct. Not from just the people I know, but hearing from other customers in the store. And I hear this multiple times. Sad to say, I try (others as well) not to go to Kroger as a whole. People are driving farther and likely paying more just for basic grocery needs. Just to site a couple recent examples. The entry door near the Starbucks entrance is closed after 6pm, seems everyday in a area that is not high crime. Do customers know that? Could a sign placed outside so like yesterday seniors are not trying to walk so crazy far and turned around just to buy groceries? Poor Store Management. Yesterday the store had floor issues of spilled whatever in at least four isles. Not joking..There was someone walking around on Facetime having fun, while multiple people were so pissed. Heard multiple say, They are trying hard for us not to shop here. I also know there enough that know's there is a creepy employee that park's her nasty 1986 tan ford tarus that has a flipping skelton that hangs from the antenna and other crazy crap stickers. Have this person move away from the front of the dang store!! This is Manager 101 stuff!!! Given my experience in retail, this poor review fall's on the DM and the GM of the store. The company can not say it's the work force. If you have secret shoppers in the area you will find this. A lack of culture and follow thru can be killer of customer experience and growth. I was warned about this locatioin prior to moving here, because I have been loyal to Kroger. But I had to say something, because this locatoin just continues to miss my expectations and many others that vent it as well. I would be happy to discuss further if there is a response from the organization. Ton's of experience and no skin in the game.. A GM's location worst nightmare if they don't run a tight ship. Please contact me if needed.. Please fix it.. Your losing ton's of profit to neighboring locations that are much farther reach for the customer base.

Yelp
For a downtown grocery store, the Kroger on Michigan St is a blessing. I've been to this location multiple times and there is one thing that has been consistent - how polite and helpful the staff here is! The produce is mostly fresh. Because of the proximity to IU campus and lots of students around the area, they can get very busy on weekends. This location carries more than just grocery that many other Kroger's do not have - water purifiers, t-shirts, command strips etc so it could be your one-stop shop for many basic needs. Also, their deli and salad bar is a quick solution to many weekday dinners. I am glad we have a Kroger in downtown and it has free parking!
google avatar

Jon C.

Yelp
Maybe I'm not the observant, but this store looks a lot like the store that was here before. I really like having more than just one store available downtown, and Kroger's prices are typically better than other options. I came here the other day and spent $13 for two meals... I thought I forgot to ring something up because I wasn't expecting it to be so cheap. This store has a parking garage, so if it's raining or snowing, you can get to and from the door without getting wet. The produce section is large, but if you're looking for something special, you might need to go to another store. I was looking for seranno peppers and cilantro here and couldn't find either, so I had to make an extra stop on my way home.
google avatar

Kristen L.

Yelp
I had such a wonderful experience at this store! Parking is super easy with an attached parking garage. The store is extremely clean with all products stocked and organized very well. There is a huge selection of brands and products available here. The employees are friendly and work quickly to keep the lines down. There is a security guard present to make sure customers are safe. The restrooms are clean and in working order. I am highly impressed with this Kroger and 100% recommend it!!

Yelp
I'm a super fan of Kroger. I love their selections, produce, bakeries and their clearance/discounted section. I can almost always find what I am looking for. They have really expanded their non-diary and vegan selection and this gal is happy. Really enjoy this location because it's so big. They have an awesome produce section. This location is great for those who work and live downtown Indy. I love the salad bar and you can even order hot foods to go. Go to the deli and try the Buffalo Chicken pasta salad. It's delicious.

Yelp
Marsh closed up and now a Kroger. The food court is impressive but not why we came here. Prices are okay for downtown. But as big as the store is (you want to see a small store hit Needlers on 320 N New Jersey St) the choice of stock is not great. They did have Finlandia grassfed butter so that is okay but it is also pricier than Kerrygold. [edit to update I found the Kerrygold in the specialty cheese section. Do not know why they do not stock all the butter in the same area. Not even the same side of the store.] I will shop here for the Kroger organics and to get some variety from Needers. An okay store for the space. #312
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
It's a regular-priced grocery store in the downtown area (cheaper than Whole Foods or Needler's), so that counts for something. There's also a free parking garage where you can usually find a spot easily (without circling more than once or twice), so that also counts for something. It's clean and it looks newer inside. Could be a lot worse. But have you ever gone to a grocery store and found no grocery carts in sight? Yeah, that happens at this Kroger. You'd think that there would be wall-to-wall bodies inside the store when that happens but nope, it's always just a regular evening, not terribly packed. You can look for one in the garage but it's pretty hit or miss. Why so few carts, Kroger?? This has happened to me many times. It's not the best, but it's far from the worst urban grocery store I've been to. It's spacious enough and the selection is pretty good for most items, though they do seem to run out of random things. The cheese section is pretty robust (including fun odds and ends cheese bins) and I appreciate that they sell beer singles in the alcohol department. They just opened a Starbucks inside this location and I hope that doesn't increase foot traffic. After all, carts are scarce. I'll fight you for one.

Yelp
I am a frequent customer of the downtown Kroger! I love the convenient aspect of it, since I live nearby. For being in the middle of the city, it's pretty comprehensive and has almost everything I need. The parking is kind of a mess. I know there's lots of spots, but oftentimes they are all full. I made myself a DIY parking spot in a loading zone last week. The Bistro is one of my favorite places to eat. It's so cheap and the food is always on point!
google avatar

Yan A.

Yelp
I appreciate where Kroger is located. Since it is right by where I live, I always shop here for groceries. It is a little bit more expensive than other groceries stores, but due to the convenience, I dont mind it! They have pretty much everything that you need in terms of food and sometimes they have some great deals! I am so glad that Kroger replaced Marsh!!

Rob M.

Yelp
Definitely the place to shop in downtown Indy. They have a wide variety of products in every category. Great cheese department. The best part of the store is the staff - friendly and helpful. If you can't find something they will walk with you to help. It feels like a real community here

Yelp
Convenience. In town for GJNC and needed to stock up on "healthy stuff"- water, Body Armour, fruits. It's nice to be able to find the comforts from home when you're out of town. I was in sticker shock at some of the prices, as we often times pay 3-4x more for things as simple as grapes, 88c/lb WHAAAAT? Found everything on my list and then some just bc it was on sale. Was surprised to find a hot deli inside and a well stocked even "gourmet-ish" regular deli. Friendly and helpful staff. I just found the parking garage a bit small and hard to maneuver/ park down one of the aisles as was also witnessed by many other drivers, I think the lines are oddly aligned.

Yelp
Store has a good craft beer selection and their deli is awesome. Unfortunately, the checkout line is 10+ people long and it takes forever to check out and I've had a bad experience with this every single time I go. After this last round, I don't plan on going back. I use this store for quick items I forgot during my usual grocery run, so I'll find a different store to use.

Kyle w.

Yelp
I just went there for the first time and went through aisle 3 The cashier introduced herself along with the young man bagging my groceries. That is pretty remarkable customer service!

Calliope L.

Yelp
This store used to be my go to store due to it's proximity to where I live. However, I went there today to buy my usual things, only to find that most of them are NO LONGER AVAILABLE THERE.   I'm not asking for that much. Simply items that I could find at any other grocery, but that is further away to drive to. A. There was no Parkay Margarine. Even when that preferred margarine is not there, most stores usually have other options. The only thing available was Imperial brand (I've never heard of) and lots of butter spreads, liquid butter, etc. B. I went to get Marzetti Dill Veggie Dip for my husband, who has it all the time. They don't even have a little sign listing it as available, even if they are out of it. Instead, there are a lot of other unknown brands. C. While they may have less shelf space here for the brands I prefer, there sure is plenty of room for BEER, WINE, CHIPS, FLOWERS, STARBUCKS!!!    Do we REALLY NEED ANOTHER STARBUCKS in Indy??? Will be going to the OTHER local store, Needler's, which is NOT a huge chain, like Krogers, and who actually listen to their customers in finding items!!

Yelp
Kroger is great. They have the food I need when I need it and the prices are decent. But what sets this Kroger apart from the rest is their customer service. A few months ago I was parked in their lot while I was working out. Keep in mind that I was not currently grocery shopping. After my workout, I headed out to my car only to see that my tire was flat like a pancake. In an attempt to stay calm I headed inside Kroger just to let them know my car would be parked there a bit longer (they have a parking time limit). After explaining my situation they got a manager. The manager was very kind, listened to my issue and then asked me where I was parking. After I told him he got ahold of another employee and they CHANGED MY TIRE! WOW! Both of them were in their work clothes and just got down on that parking lot floor and got to work. I wish I could remember their names because they deserve all of the thanks in the world. Not only did this make me appreciate Kroger and the kind of business that they are running but it gave me hope in humanity. Thanks to these fine folks I am now a loyal Kroger customer.

Yelp
Besides it looking like 2020 on some days! It's fine otherwise I like this Kroger because of its in walking distance from my apartments!! The one thing that sucks is the homeless out begging all day every day so when I bring my wagon to the store I'm often stopped by the homeless and asked for money!! I could go to Kroger a couple times in a week to get things I forgot!! But it's still very unpleasant being approached every time... I get they are homeless or just poor asf but they shouldn't be begging out side of the store!!!

Yelp
I appreciate this Kroger being in the heart of the downtown area. I work downtown so whenever I need to grab a light lunch, or do some grocery shopping before heading home, I usually stop at this Kroger. I love the garage parking you can use since there isn't really a whole lot of street parking. Its mostly reserved for quick pick ups pr meeting an Uber/Lyft driver. I wish this location had where you can shop online and pick up at the store. Sometimes when its rush hour, checking out can be a bear. I also wished that this Kroger could honor deals and discounts that other Kroger locations had. For example, if I go to the Broad Ripple Kroger, I could get a gallon of milk for $1.99. At this Kroger, a gallon of milk here is nearly $3. You really wanna make sure that you have the Kroger app downloaded on your phone so you don't miss out on deals and discounts. This location does have an upper seating place on the second floor if you wanna have lunch here, but I wish this area could be cleaned more. I also don't like the panhandlers that hang out begging for money when you leave or enter. One thing that I highly dislike is that this Kroger, being how large it is (it was a former Marsh) are constantly out of items. This should be a well-stocked Kroger since it is downtown and downtown workers, residents and IUPUI students shop here. I appreciate this location not being super tight like the one on 16th and Central, but really?

Yelp
it was a smart move for Kroger to buy this former Marsh location. Being one of the very few downtown options, it stays busy for lack of other downtown options. Other than logos and better pricing, it's very much like the Marsh. It's a great spot for a grocery lunch option, as they have the hot bar, the salad bar, and the deli for quick food. It's consistent with the Kroger brand although just as with Marsh before, they may carry less inventory than other Krogers because they are limited on space. However, it is still a more updated Kroger than the 16th or the Michigan Street location in that they have the deli, bakery, sushi, seafood, and liquor departments. I for one am very thankful for this much needed downtown grocery option.

Yelp
I want to love this Kroger. I did at first, who doesn't love that salad bar and the fresh sushi?! Plus, the wine selection and beautiful selection of cheese. Yum! However, the downside (for me at least): -The produce section is ALWAYS lacking. Every single time. I don't think I've actually ever been able to buy spinach or kale here. I've had better luck with greens at the 16th st Kroger, and I really avoid that one. Pretty much all the produce other than fruit is seriously lacking here. -I feel like for a Kroger this size, the meat selection could be bigger. I've gone in to get meat advertised in the ad that I can't ever get here. -Customer service. I've met two nice employees here. They have been the butcher and the gentleman in the specialty cheese area. -Parking. I know that this parking was created for the former Marsh, but my golly. I drove in a circle for TWENTY-FIVE minutes before finding a spot. It's not Kroger's fault, but adds to any potential frustrations. I will still shop here, but i think this location needs some improvement and TLC. I think it should have higher standards being a downtown location that easily brings in a ton of revenue.

Yelp
They are a good store, they have very tight parking though. They are like most Kroger's just have a few extra amenities and seem more "upscale". My only issue with this store is I sware near the bakery to the freezer section at the back of the store something always smells rotten. Not realy the biggest issue but just a thought. Other than that it is a nice store

Yelp
Convenient yes, in a sense. But only self checkout open? No checkout clerks? Long line, kind of ridiculous,

Yelp
Not sure what the big deal is. This Kroger is conveniently located and has a fair selection of items at reasonable prices especially for downtown. Some of their food is even cheaper that the 16th street location, for example their hummus is one dollar or more cheaper. Free parking but tight turns. Many vegetarian types do swoop thru and get some of the better frozen selections so I reckon you gotta beat those early birds if you want some of the better vegan worms.

Yelp
I like this Kroger. It was formally the Marsh Downtown. Design wise Kroger increase the height of the shelving units and took some of the film off the windows. This result in more options and a brighter store, which is a small thing but makes a difference to me. This store is designed for the apartment shopper, which means the portions sizes are smaller and there are fewer selections, but nevertheless still quality items. Most importantly, the prices are way cheaper for the same items. I tried to shop at Marsh for my main items and almost went broke. This location has a variety and it's reasonably priced. There are still plenty of fresh produce and poultry to pick from and freshly made items in the deli. This location has both cashiers and a self-checkout lane. They usually have the majority of the registered open, which I greatly appreciate because I just want to get in and out and enjoy my food. Another plus for me is that in addition to having a diverse costumer based, the store's staff is also more diverse.

Yelp
Moved downtown from Avon and there is a big differnce. This store has limited products and the prices are much higher. I will give them credit for nice cheese selection.

Yelp
They had my groceries. I just needed some things and they had them. Thank you for being reliable.

Yelp
Couldn't be happier that this store is now a Kroger. First thing you see when you walk in is beautiful produce with a yellow and red price tag for much, much cheaper! Pros: -Pretty, clean, large, new store -They have several hot food stations, Boars Head deli, a vast cheese and wine section, and a good variety of brands at this location. -An employee if you need help is not hard to locate. -The check out lines have been short with plenty of cashiers and self-check out stations. Cons: - As mentioned in other reviews, items have NOT be adequately stocked. They were out of thin-sliced chicken breast for example and the shelves were bare on all salad products (though these were starting to be stocked as I was looking for the items.) They were out of parsley (except organic)---that sort of minor annoyance. -The store is definitely working out its kinks so I will have to update this review in several months. I went the weekend they opened and had some issues with pricing at self-checkout and the staff took awhile and seemed unsure about how to resolve the problem, but it was eventually resolved. - I wish there were more parking entrances due to Michigan being one way. Circling the block to enter from Michigan is not ideal. I'm glad this store opened so quickly, and I'm sure they will continue to improve over the next few months.

Yelp
I live only 6 blocks from the Kroger at 16th and College, and I've been excited for this larger Kroger to open downtown. I was looking forward to an expanded selection, larger produce department, deli & cheese section, and a much larger wine & beer department. Unfortunately, if our first visit this evening is any indication, we will NOT be returning. We stopped in tonight (Monday) at ~8 pm. From our first look at the product section, we knew we were in trouble. They were almost out of lettuce, completely out of bananas, several varieties of tomatoes, and green grapes. The aisles weren't much better. They were out of several types of chips we'd normally get. They had 7 total gallons of milk for us to choose from in the entire store. They were completely out of any 6 or 18 ct eggs, and the ONE 12 ct egg carton they did have had a broken egg in it. Their meat department also was incredibly picked over. The only thing that we were able to get at this Kroger that we couldn't get at our regular 16th St. Kroger was iced tea. When we remarked to the check out clerk that we were unable to get several items because they were completely out of stock, he muttered "Oh yeah, well, we must've been slammed earlier tonight." This is a brand new store, and if they can't manage to keep items stocked on a regular weeknight, then they're going to have a hard time competing with Needlers and Whole Foods (once they open). I for one do not plan on returning to this store.
