Mogu Mogu Review - West LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Mogu Mogu is a noodle spot in West LA that requires a bit of effort on your part. They specialize in mazemen - brothless ramen - though if that wasn’t clear, the very specific instructions on the wall should clue you in. You combine your bowl of thick noodles with a variety of toppings (including a poached egg, chives, and spicy minced pork) “for about 30 seconds,” and add their Umami Vinegar midway through (and not before) to create a rich sauce. It may be a meticulous way to approach a meal, but the result is a complex bowl full of chewy noodles, flavors like briny fish powder and bright chives, and a savory sauce. You’ll probably even break a sweat, but when you’re working your way through something as satisfying as Mogu Mogu’s mazemen, it’s worth the effort." - James Montgomery

Kroger continues to cause confusion and problems with differences between marked prices and scanned prices at the register. This is not the first time by any means. This is an ongoing problem that Kroger obviously has not resolved. Just today, the marked price of an item was $1.99 WITH CARD, not digital coupon, but the scanned price at the self check-out was $2.19, the wrong price. I called the employee over to explain the issue and the difference in the prices. She actually asked me if I took a photo of the pricing. A PHOTO. What? It's not my issue to take a photo of Kroger's product prices. I explained and pointed just a few feet away to where to product was located so she could see for herself. She refused. It's Kroger's responsibility to see that the marked prices and register prices are correct. It's not a matter of money, but rather principle and Kroger fails again and again.

The good thing about this Kroger is that it is Kroger brand products which are usually pretty good. The bad part: the majority of the people working there. Part of the problem might be the fact the cashier area has little air movement and is hot most of the time. Many cashiers are in a bad mood. The only employee up there that redeems this store from being majority awful is Andrew. Andrew is always pleasant, even when things are stressful. Prices ring up incorrctly frequently, especially on sale prices. This is the only store where we feel the need to double-check the whole receipt before leaving. I attribute that to the people working at this store. Tonight, we did the same but did not realize the customer service closes at 8pm.

People working here are not situationally aware whatsoever... Girl with glasses at fuel station was so engrossed in her phone that she couldn't even look up at me when standing in front of her at the window and knocking.. I had to knock two times to get her to look up! There should be a policy in place about phone usage while on the job. I'm sure there is, but it's definitely not enforced here.. even inside the store.. **Second review** Another fuel attendant rolled his eyes at me when asking for a receipt, it's for business purposes and I'm not explaining myself to them. I'll go to the one on NRH or in Watauga before I come here again.. Also it's April 11th and all the wheat bread is out of date by the 8th... Produce here is worse than NRH location..

Google
This is by far the worst grocery store I have ever been to. Number one, why is the AC barely on in July in Texas Heat, let's start there! Its so hot in there! Number two what is going on with the produce we have purchased compromised products a couple times, only realizing after we got home. Also all of the veggies like red onions, avocados are always rotten/molded. After seeing all these bad reviews, it is time for a change. Needs new management, new grocery store with quality produce like HEB. HEB HELP!

Always out of food that is on sale and when you scan their digital coupons, it never recognizes the barcode or says it is expired when there is not a date or a date that hasn't passed yet. If you do not pay attention to what rings up and what is actually taken off at the end, you will end up paying full price for discounts. Or you will have to spend 15 minutes or more waiting for them to verify and fix it. I've posted pictures of some of the items for this week that do it.

I called customer service to ask a question about the Pokémon vending machine. The representative informed me that she had just started her shift and didn’t know anything about it because it wasn't part of Kroger. Her tone changed as soon as I mentioned Pokémon, and she was quite rude in her response, despite my respectful demeanor. I understand that they might be annoyed by repetitive questions, but I was being nice in return. I said “thank you” at the end of the call, but she didn’t respond and hung up.

Been coming here for over a decade in the past year have seen a decline in service, store quality and appearence and product quality. We hoped/hope it's a passing phase but don't see any improvements and only decline; to the point of making this post. We will start taking our weekly shopping elsewhere due to this final straw... by granddaughters poor quality birthday cake... half printed, half written happy birthday... ran out of little pony decorations; so dont get those... still charged full price... forgot rest of order... couldn't refuse, birthday was in couple hours... ranting now, sorry, hope ya'll do better Kroger.

Left my wallet in my shopping cart back in July. I called this location and physically went in multiple times asking them for it, they SWORE they didn’t have it. They called me TODAY (March 24th) saying they cleaned out their lost and found and may have found something that belonged to me. $300 cash is gone. Surprising. Already accepted my loss. My frustration comes in when I wonder why in the world was my wallet sitting in the lost and found for 8 months. Why did it take yall 8 months to not only look up my Kroger account, and call me but clean out the damn lost and found??? Like I said I had called and gone in MULTIPLE TIMES asking employees to search the back. When questioning the workers at the help counter about this entire situation, they provided quite LITERALLY nothing but blank stares. What a pathetic joke of a business, with even more pathetic workers.

Yelp
My husband and I had already made a trip to Costco for groceries. But on the way home we realized, WE FORGOT THE MUSTARD! This location came in clutch because it was on our way home from getting hair cuts in NRH. I'm giving them all 5 stars for the ease of finding the mustard and quick checkout. We were in and out in 5 minutes! Whew, crisis averted. Thanks kroger, stay cool!

Yelp
This is my local Kroger. It usually have the things I need. Fairly clean but could use some updating. I always laugh when I let go of my cart and it rolls by itself down an aisle because of slanted floors. Usually nice employees and as always they hire special needs stackers and that is a good thing.

Kadrian W.

Yelp
honestly, if I could give no stars, I would the lady behind the customer service courtesy booth is the most disrespectful, rude bigoted person I have ever met in customer service. I have been to this location over a numerous of time since moving to the area and every time that I go in to pay a bill at the customer service booth. This lady has the biggest attitude she wouldn't give me her name but she's an old white lady with long hair and glasses. Dark black eyeliner I spoke to the manager of the establishment yesterday that was on duty. His name was Steve. He tried to reassure me that something was going to be done about her.

Yelp
I have been coming to this Kroger for years and it has gone downhill in the past few years. The employees seem downtrodden and items are regularly missing or overstocked (as in the fill in empty spots with extra product which can be confusing when a shelf tag has the product that is out listed) Over the years, the guy that is at the self-checkout area and I have seen him bagging is a bright light for the store. I THINK his name is Andrew? but he is always pretty happy even when stress is high around him. I will start going to other stores from now on until Kroger does something about this store. Luckily I have a Walmart Neighborhood Market and Target close-by and a great butcher and farmers market also down Rufe Snow.

Yelp
Another store goes down the drain. I've been going here for many years now and it's always been a good store with nice employees. Some of the good employees are still there, but with this latest dumb maneuver by Kroger, they may be gone soon. They are putting in a bank of self-checkout stations besides the ones they have had for a few years. We have always used the self-checkout stations when we just have a few items as have all of the local patrons. It has worked out just fine. NOBODY likes self-checkout. I quit going to Walmart just for that reason. Now I guess after 18 years at one store, I'll be finding another smaller neighborhood store to go to. Goodbye, Kroger.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst Kroger around. Always out of stock on numerous items. There are never enough check stands open to handle business, which leads to the self checkouts being overwhelmed and long lines. Do yourself a favor and go to Tom Thumb or walmart down the street. You can talk to management. They don't care. It's been this way for years at this store. I'm counting the days till H‑E‑B opens. Even though it's farther away and it will be swamped, they always have enough employees to serve their customers.

Yelp
Horrible Kroger! We go because its close to the house but not anymore. Been coming here for years, its gone way downhill! The produce has just gone to s*** its disgusting, seems old... There meat selection is not the best, everything is sooooo expensive! May as well shop at Tom Thumb or Albertsons and get better produce, meat, deli, everything for the prices Kroger is selling there crap! Self checkout...... SICK OF SELF CHECKOUT! Especially when you have $150 worth of groceries! Just close this Kroger already, Ive been to better Krogers!

Yelp
Today I was helped by a man named Jerry, who was super nice and made me laughed when I had to make a return. I wasn't planning on getting flowers but the lady Caroline was so nice and helped me pick some out. This Kroger has the nicest workers.

Yelp
This is our favorite neighborhood Kroger. Although it's a tad further than our closest Kroger, this one just had a major face-lift and now it's all shiny and bright inside. It features a wide selection of gourmet cheeses, an "olive bar" (along with other treats) as well as fresh-made sushi. Couple this with ample parking and proximately to a great little Italian restaurant (Niki's), and this Kroger is very convenient.

Yelp
Ok..... I don't know what it is but this location is bad luck. Seriously I don't know why... Every time I come here something bad happens. My daughter got severely injured here in the parking lot and we went straight to urgent care. Second time here I have such a hassle with the self checkout. Another time the cashier had trouble finding our store card which I know we have. Insane. Bye never again

BeeBee C.

Yelp
You ever get the feeling like a store is trying to go out of business? We have been shopping here for over ten years and it has gotten progressively worse year after year. The past two years though have been extremely bad. Shelves either have expired food on them or lack of food on them. The produce department is a joke as well as the dairy department. While some of the staff is nice and tries other staff is rude and could really give a darn to be there. But that would start from the top, the store manager who also is rude. We have decided, after over ten years, to pull our scripts from the pharmacy (that is also inconsistent with quality and staff) and shop elsewhere. Fed up with this store.

Yelp
This place sucks. I always have a bad experience here. The cashier today was an idiot. An older white lady. Clearly she wasn't ready to be working alone because she kept asking for help. Moron.

Yelp
I made the mistake of giving this store another try. There will never be a third time!! Hayden the crappy bagger doesn't know how to bag groceries you can put more than 3 items in a bag, if you need lessons I will gladly teach you. I was the training manager in a grocery store many years ago and honestly it's not difficult. I don't normally ask to have my groceries taken to my car however, I was in a lot of pain and asked only to have the cart pushed toward me and him just say "here" really? I thought Kroger was better than Walmart, my mistake! I don't shop at Walmart due to horrible customer service and I'm willing to pay more for customer service. But, don't expect it at this location! So I'm in the parking lot and realize I cannot lift a case of water into my vehicle. My injury just wouldn't let me on this day. So, I call the store. I was put on ignore for almost 5 minutes while everything frozen I purchased was melting. I hang up and call back. I get an assistant manager on the phone and explained the situation. A minute or two later out comes the Asst. Mgr and another employee. They put the case of water in my vehicle and offered to replace the now melted frozen items but, I would have to dig through multiple bags because again Hayden doesn't know to put all frozen goods together. By this time I can barely stand anymore due to the pain so I just decided to take the loss on the frozen items so that I could get home. And it wasn't only frozen items I took a loss on. Since Ice cream was put in a bag with boxed items and melted all over the boxes which made the boxes fall apart and the contents of said boxes trash. Not to mention I now must pay to get the melted ice cream stain out of my vehicle. This has been one of the costliest grocery shopping trips I've ever had. But, never again. I will drive farther in the future for my groceries and never go to this store again all because Hayden didn't want to do the job he's paid to do.

Ashley H.

Yelp
Only 3 stars because the person on the phone was nice. Wish the app was more accurate about what they have in stock.
google avatar

Yelp
Prices here pretty expensive but still beats Walmart. They always have some great deals going on with their meats. As long as you have a rewards card with them you will definitely benefit from their rewards program. They have a lot of organic produce to choose from. The cleanness of the store has always been very clean everytime I have shopped here.

Yelp
Pretty nice Kroger ... their layout is different than the one that I normally go too but this one is much bigger than our other one with more options. A little out of our way, but I will usually stop in when I'm running errands in the area and need a gift card or something.

Yelp
The Kroger on Rufe Snow & Tarrant Pky has sadly lost their customer service. The best part about this Kroger is their cheese department manager & a sweet checkout lady named Debbie. I have personally witnessed the customer service manager open a lane & checkout a few customers, but then quickly shut it down with others still in his line. I heard a gentleman complain but the manager ignored him. So much for customer service so I have been "trained" to check out my own groceries over the years since there is usually only one lane open & rarely do they have the 15 & fewer open. Today I decided to do a review because there were over 15 people waiting to checkout their own groceries since only one lane was open with a checker. Sweet Debbie was running the checkout your own groceries lane & calmly helped everyone while the customer service manager appeared to be doing nothing. I guess it is worth driving a bit further to Tom Thumb.

Amanda S.

Yelp
I love Kroger and normally shop at the ones on Timberland, Heritage Trace or in Southlake. Since I was in the area today, I stopped at the Rufe Snow location. I bought a pound of top sirloin (9.99/lb) and it looked like a nice cut of meat. At home, when I opened the package, the entire bottom side of the meat was fat. I cut off over a quarter pound of fat. The packaging was deceiving - I couldn't see any fat until I opened it. We're never shopping at this Kroger again.

Yelp
With grocery wars so real cannot understand the lack of simple shelf stocking at this store. Each time I need to run in here (shop at the net Kroger on North Tarrant because...) at least one thing on my list is a no show- not because it isn't stocked or it's unusual, (I.e dark brown sugar) but because there's an empty hole where it should be. Today additionally there were zero bags in the produce area to bag with. It's bad mgmt. Plain. Simple

Yelp
Congratulations on becoming an outstandingly well stocked and clean store that offers a great variety of groceries including a wonderful variation of healthy organic products that include fresh fruits and vegetables. As a culinary chef who enjoys using healthy meats and organics in the meals I prepare have a problem with the brash rudeness I receive from mainly your male employees who seem to lack normal social-filters of politeness and manners when checking out and assisting customers. They are not trained to recognize the products Kroger sells. Let me give you an example. While purchasing groceries June 2, 2012 @ 8:50 PM I entered a checkout lane with my husband. AJ was the cashier. He greeted my husband took and swiped our rewards card and proceeded to scan in our items. He pulled a plastic bag of bulk dates and commented to everyone around us that it looked like I was buying large cockroaches. He would not stop with the comments regarding my produce. The 3 females on staff included the customer service rep commented to him that he was being rude to the customer but left. He than rudely demanded of me" What is this?" I replied red faced that those items were called "dates". He then demanded answers of me for many of the items I was purchasing questioning why I was spending extra money for organics. My husband, a Physician, attempted to explain to him why we felt organic where important and your cashier cut him off. We left with our groceries with AJ yelling rude exit remarks. "Hey, Like try to have a nice night." I will spend my grocery money at Whole Foods or Central Markert where staff is better trained in customer service.

Yelp
This is a great store. Has a very good selection. We never have to go to another store. The services is good and checkout is a breeze. If you open and account at kroger.com and enter your plus card number you can download digital coupons to your card, the coupons automatically redeem when you check out. This saves us around 5 dollars a month. The fuel points save us 10 cents a gallon at Kroger and shell gas stations. This adds up over time.

Yelp
Very good Kroger Nice helpful Everytime I go shop there they been nice if u ask for help Never been rude Night time ask for be walked out right away even the manager will bag and walk u out Thank u

Yelp
This Kroger just continues to decline. They're always understaffed. Why else do we have to go look for carts and consistently bag our own groceries? I'm assuming they don't have a Store Manager because this place IS ALWAYS a mess on the weekends. Today, a bad weather day, they had 4 Self-Checkouts & 4 Express lanes open w/ very little wait, but only 5 regular lanes open w/ very long lines. It seems that these guys cannot adjust on the fly and realize that Express lanes move faster and not as many of those are needed. C'mon Kroger, it's not rocket science, it's just common sense & good customer service. But Customer Service is definitely NOT their priority. I can't wait until the new one opens down the street. Hopefully they'll have better management in place and understand that customer service should be a priority!

Diane T.

Yelp
I would give this Kroger 5 stars, too, if it weren't for the lousy job most of their baggers do (most, not all, although the ones who do a decent job bagging are rarely there when I am). As a result, I have been shopping elsewhere and try to shop here only when I have just a few items and can do self-checkout. It's a shame since I really like the store otherwise. I even talked to the manager about it a few years ago. Maybe I should do it again, although I doubt it would do any good. The Kroger on Keller Pkwy has the same problem. Maybe I'm just too picky, but I'm really tired of my produce being brutalize, frozen stuff bagged with cereal, canned goods loaded in the cart on top of my produce, etc...

Kelly R.

Yelp
Been coming here for many yrs so have seen many managers come and go. On the rare occasion I have to shop here I know they will be out of one or more of the items I need. Only one or two aisles open during peak hours and managers standing around talking instead of lending a hand to open one up. Today when I was checking out in self service after I hit the coupon button the self service cashier comes over and after scanning coupons tells me I could have done it myself. Even though the machine calls for the cashier. And he's basically standing around watching everyone else do the work of a cashier. There are a couple of guys who bag and cashier-Nathan and Kevin-who work hard and are also friendly as can be. A lady named Debby is also awesome as could be. When I called corporate to pass along their names I was told (should I be surprised) they were out of the pins they should receive for recognition. Hope by now they have gotten them because they are the only reason I would ever stop in this store again. Especially when the other two locations do an outstanding job.

Yelp
Love this Kroger. It's so clean, the sushi guys are so sweet, and the ladies in the deli are super helpful. The bakery is pretty small, I wish there was more of an assortment of baked goods. It's definitely worth driving out of my way.

Yelp
If you are looking for a grocery store where you feel welcome and "at home", this isn't the Kroger for you! The staff yells at each other and everything is always out of stock. There is no organization to the store, and there is usually only 1 line open to checkout. I would recommend the Kroger at Alliance or the one at North Beach and Timberland instead.

M W.

Yelp
I live very near this Kroger store and there are NEVER enough cashiers. This store is so poorly managed. I always wait at least 10 to 20 minutes to get checked out and MOST always bag my own groceries. It's so so frustrating !! Why can't Kroger hire people to work in this store and a decent manager ??
google avatar

Angel W.

Yelp
I am so happy to have this store nearby! I work in an Albertsons but do most of my shopping at Walmart and Kroger (shhh.) This location is very clean and bright, with a beautiful array of produce. I eat organic and natural, which is why I am in here most often. This store offers a nice selection of organic and natural products, much of which is located together in a separate section. Their natural product selection also includes health care products and household cleaning products. There is also a separate area for non-dairy milks, non-dairy yogurt and other non-dairy products that no other local chain store carries. I also love the bulk bins with nuts and other goodies. I always buy nuts from the bulk bins because I get a better price. I often find natural, multigrain, take and bake bread loaves for clearance in the bakery, which I can freeze for later use. While there are a few things I wish I could get here, such as nutritional yeast and chia seeds, overall I am very pleased.

Yelp
This is my regular grocery store, Ive been shopping here for years. But I'm going to start going elsewhere unless I just need a few things and use self check out. Customer service is really going south. The last 4 times ( I started keeping track) the checker has failed to say hello or even look at me. They just start scanning items while talking to the bagger. Really? How about Hi, how are you? The kicker is when they don't even give you the total, they expect you to see it. Then hand you the receipt while still talking to the bagger! Unbelievable. I walked away shaking my head. Today, the young man in the meat dept took it to a new low.. I waited patiently at the meat counter for quite awhile while he walked around the meat area. After a while he saw me and said he'd help me in a min. Ok. So I waited for 5 more min, he was still walking around like he was looking for something. I decided to move on and do the rest of my shopping and come back later. I went back about 20 min later and hes still wandering around. So I rang the bell. He comes over and stood there looking at me, never said hello, how can I help you. Or I'm sorry you had to wait, what can I get you? That would have been great. No. After waiting a few uncomfortable silent seconds, I asked for 1 pound of shrimp. He got it for me, but failed to ask if 1 1/2 pounds was ok. I figured that out later when checking out. He just handed it to me and stared, never said a word. I'm telling you it was strange. I told him, this is bad customer service. Then he found his voice and said "what?" I said this is bad service and walked away. I have talked with the store managers a couple of times and they are always very nice. But clearly customer service training is sorely lacking and not getting any better.. Do they get any training? It doesn't appear that way. Its really bad for business, customers just want to be treated with common courtesy. I think I'm done being treated poorly and I'm moving on to Tom Thumb across the street. Its more expensive but I don't leave the store feeling angry or insulted.
