11 Great Restaurants You Can Actually Get Into

"It’s hard to explain how many times this place has come through in the clutch. Great Lao Isaan food in a cool, huge space in the heart of the Mission that’s basically a guaranteed good time. We can’t imagine a more perfect solution for many of your dining problems, and the tiki drinks are always strong." - taylor abrams, max child, will kamensky

Google
We had Pad Thai and Chicken Skewers and it was very good. Slightly disappointed about the sticky rice (too dry) but overall an excellent place. I will definitely come back and try more things because everything on the menu looked super tasty. Service was great and helpful regarding food restriction, which is not always the case. Music is not too loud which is also appreciated.

Google
Service was awesome. The food was pretty OK. Pineapple fried rice was very forgettable. Khao soi was pretty ok as well. Red thai curry was good tho!

I didn’t know this place earlier. We were trying to go Stonemill Matcha next door but they are closed today. Surprisingly the food it’s really good here. We had three appetizers skewer shrimp satay, spring roll, papaya salad. All tasted yummy with quality preparation. Our waiter is really friendly as well with good service. They actually have both Thai food menu and American brunch menu to choose from. The only improvement I will suggest is the interior design and paint color. However, the overall quality food is above average to the other Thai restaurants that I been to.

Google
Don't bother with the Pad Thai here. Too sour, too bad. It used the thin type of noodles which easily stuck together, resulting in a big sticky noodle mess. Expensive too for $14. Also where were the spring onions? There was nothing appealing about this dish. Cream cheese taffies tasted like they were just re-fried. Thai iced tea too sweet. Krua zesty beef had an odd undercooked texture. I'm giving this 2 stars for the polite staff. Please do better :( PS their sticky rice wasn't sticky at all. The only nice thing about their mango sticky rice was the mangoes

Came here on a Thursday evening and their reservation system was really simple! Not a lot of people there either. Good: - Decently fast service and really nice clean interior - Loved the pad c u here with chicken, it was so tasty and the noodles were chewy - The papaya salad was a great texture as well and really good as an appetizer - I was a fan of the Khao soi, it was a huge portion size and the soup was so good Bad: - A little overpriced for Thai food, felt like it was $5 more than other places Overall really liked this place! It was close to the Barry’s we went to ahead of class.

Google
The flavors are so strong and hit the spot! This is a solid Thai place to come back to though the portions are a little small for the price. It's worth it for the flavors. Here are the dishes I ordered: --Pad See U: The noodles are perfectly flavored but too salty --Pad Kee Mao: Wonderfully strong basil taste! Although it looks quite similar to Pad See U, it is drastically different in taste. Some people may find this dish too spicy but I was not bothered by it. --Yellow Curry: PERFECT. It's so good with lots of vegetables. It's a bit sweeter than other yellow curries I've had but this is literally so good. A bit disappointed it doesn't come with rice though. It's +$1 for rice. --Thai Iced Tea: Loved the flavor but too sweet.

Google
Solid Thai dishes with toned down spiciness. If you like Thai cuisine but can’t deal with spicy food, this is great place to explore. Totally underrated so no waitlist or lines. The food is fresh and staff is great.

Andy Z

Google
Decent Thai food with friendly service. The dishes taste like home cooking. The Thai iced tea was good but halfway through the drink I found a fly in between the ice cubes (probably just unlucky though).

Yelp
Came with a friend to try out a new restaurant and because we had a coupon! Walking in, the ambiance is quite pretty and the restaurant is spacious. The restaurant is also decorated for the holidays, which is very cute! The service was good as well as the staff was attentive and filled up our water periodically while checking up on us! For food, I ordered the red pumpkin curry with chicken with a side of sticky rice! My friend got the red curry with jasmine rice, and we for cream cheese taffies to share! The portions are quite large- definitely enough for another meal to take home as leftovers. Food summary: Cream cheese taffies 10/10 I love these! Very crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside- a great blend for the filling of crab meat and onion! The sweet and sour sauce on the side was nice touch! Red pumpkin curry with chicken 8/10 I liked the curry and it was just the right amount of spice for me! Creamy and soupy with a ton of assorted veggies! Overall, I would definitely come back for the cream cheese taffies and to try out the noodle dishes!

Yelp
The presentation and customer service at KRUA Thai were amazing. The ambiance was cool and calm and we went on a very slow Saturday morning. they had an extensive menu that covered both Western and Thai cuisine. we ordered from the more "American-styled" side of the menu, and like I said, the presentation was beautiful. but after about 40 minutes in a very empty restaurant, I would've expected things to taste better. The pancakes were very burnt. As though they purposely charred all sides of the pancakes, the burnt sugar taste was not exactly pleasurable. They served their eggs in a fluffy matter, which was good, we ordered scrambled, and that is what we got. I'm not complaining because they were the best-tasting thing on the table. We got the fried chicken sandwich that was served in both a burnt and undercooked waffle with a mountain of coleslaw that overpowered everything else. which also didn't taste good. I asked a few of my friends who shared with me that their Thai menu did taste significantly better but also shared their dissatisfaction with the brunch menu. In my opinion, this is a classic case of spreading yourself thin with a menu that covers too many bases. I'm not saying they shouldn't diversify but if you intend to have something on the menu that people are going to order it should taste good.

Yelp
I've walked by this place so many times and finally got to stop in! Interior is cute and clean, with lots of colors. The service is quick and friendly. Good for large groups! The space is much larger than you would think bc it snakes towards the back. We ordered the Thai fried chicken, crispy pad Thai, Tom kha, and Thai tea. The pros: The mains' flavors were really bold and yummy! I liked the seasoning a lot. Although some could say it's a bit too salty, I think they balance it well with sweet and sour. The Tom kha was my favorite! The cons: The chicken was pretty meh texture-wise, and I think we ordered poorly with the crispy pad Thai because I prefer chewy noodles over fried ones. I think for the price overall, the quality of the meats they use should be a little higher. The Thai tea also tastes a bit watered down. Overall, I think this place is solid for a casual night out. I'd come again to try the pad see ew, but I don't think I'll put it in my rotation quite yet.

Yelp
I definitely do not recommend KRUA Thai. I made a reservation via Open Table, was super excited for a night out in SF, drove 2 hours to the restaurant, showed up only to discover they are closed. Did the restaurant call to tell me they had to close unexpectedly? Nope. Did they have all my info as I made a reservation? Yup. Clearly they do not care about their customers. This lack of caring for customers is surely reflected in the quality of food they serve, which I am also quite sure is below standards.

Yelp
Ordered delivery and was quite disappointed. They forgot the rice entirely and we had paid extra for the brown rice. The Colored Duck was not boneless and was not even in the dish. The duck consisted of an overcooked leg tossed into a separate container. It's like they didn't even care about providing quality or meeting expectations. Most disappointing Thai I've had in San Francisco.

Yelp
Really enjoyed KRUA! Stopped in for lunch and enjoyed the yellow chicken curry and beef drunken noodles. Food has great flavor and the servers were quick and kind. Decor was super cute!

Yelp
I was disappointed. When I came in, people greeted us with a smile. When I looked at the menu, I thought it was going to be a cute fusion place with creative Thai food. We ordered two dishes and they were both disappointing. They were tooooo salty, and that made other flavors less prominent. I had to drink a lot of water afterwards. I will definitely not come back.

Tina K.

Yelp
Worst Pad See You I ever had. The noodles are mushy it's like eating mash potatoes and super oilly and probably 5 pieces of chicken. Will never come back. Cost me about $25 just to uber this. Waste my money

Yelp
Walking by the Mission District, my eyes were caught by the glowing neon sign of Krua Thai. I thought it was a small cafe but it turned out to be a charming restaurant. Their walls splash in pink and green and the wait was not too long. The restaurant gets narrower inside and they are adorned with wine bottles. I sat by the window looking outside. They had a wide selection of food, but I found the menu to be confusing. I wasn't sure if some dishes were add-one or entrees based on how they placed their items. I had requested to provide a couple of minutes before I ordered, but I was bothered constantly to make a decision. I chose spicy basil fried rice with tofu and vegetable. The food was not as spicy as I had hoped. I think I would have tried the other dishes but I was rushed to make a decision. The cleanliness in the bathroom could use a lot of work.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick Thai spot for dinner and found KRUA. Parking anywhere on Valencia can be difficult and somehow we thought a Thursday night would be different but not at all. The restaurant is a bit confusing because it also has signs of the "Raw Sugar Factory" or something and upon entry you see a board that has menu items like "pancakes, waffles, etc" but it's actually the Thai restaurant. They sat us immediately at the only booth by the window and gave us time to look at the menus. Now the menus were super confusing to read because the prices aren't immediately next to the dish name, you have to look at the key with the proteins at the top of the menu to connect it to your dish and find the price. That alone is also fine, except they have different keys for different menu items so you might need to ask to clarify how much your actual meal will be. I ordered a Thai iced tea and chicken pad see ew. My friends got the special noodle plate and the tom kha soup with chicken. The portions here are HUGE which is really nice for the Bay Area prices. The pad see ew was also really good - they added a bit of spice which I loved. I can't speak for the other plates but apparently the Tom kha soup is also delicious and worth coming back for. The waitresses were very kind but would disappear in the kitchen a bit too long so we'd wait a bit more to ask for extra things and the check. Not a huge deal though since we weren't in that big of a rush and everyone was really friendly. Overall, hits the spot for Thai cravings just a bit of a mission to get to and reading the menu might give you a headache.

Yelp
I'm continuing my search for the best pad thai in SF. I would rank this pad thai pretty high. The sauce was sweet and savory and soaked the soft noodles but it was not saucy. The chicken was also tender and moist and had good flavor. Would love to try their other dishes!
google avatar

Nora F.

Yelp
We came at the very last minute, so I can't speak very well to the service. But both the tom yum soup and pad thai were very sour and it threw off the flavor. It's a rather small but comfy space with bright lighting and one booth table overlooking Valencia street.

Yelp
My work placed a lunch order today for delivery and I loved my lunch so much I decided to take a break to write a review. Unfortunately no pictures this time, haha too hungry to stop myself from diving in. I got the Tom Yum soup with Combination Seafood (scallops, shrimp and calamari) and an order of Shrimp Spring Rolls. I shared the rolls with a couple coworkers and they were SO good, the peanut sauce was very flavorful. My soup was so soothing and had lots of lemongrass and chili peppers, my lunch was so satisfying on this slightly rainy and cold winter day.

Yelp
Krua is a great casual neighborhood Thai restaurant in the Mission. If you're confused on the name, this restaurant is called Raw Sugar Factory during breakfast/brunch (different menus and yelp pages). -- Food -- I've ordered the Pad Thai with beef a few times, and it's hit or miss with the default spice level; I'd recommend asking for medium (or more) spice, as they will default to mild/no spice, which is extremely bland -- with spice, it was great. The noodles were cooked perfectly, meat and vegetables were fresh. I'd definitely order it again. The crispy Pad Thai is a fun variant of Pad Thai, made with dry fried egg noodles. This version doesn't have the wet sauce normally on Pad Thai. -- Drinks -- Krua has basic alcoholic drinks (mimosas, sangria, etc) and non-alcoholic beverages (soft drinks, Thai tea, etc). I tried the Thai tea and it was a *lot* sweeter than normal. -- Atmosphere -- Krua is very casual (most customers/staff in sweatshirts, etc), smaller (roughly 15 small tables and a few larger booths), narrow, brightly lit restaurant. -- Service -- No complaints here. Waiter was polite and helpful. Food came out quickly. The restaurant was clean. -- Stars -- Food: 2/3 Stars Service: 2/2 Stars Total: 4/5 Stars

Yelp
The Thai food is served all day, brunch menu in the morning/lunch. I'd recommend this spot if you are wanting a little bit of both. A friend had the chicken and waffles and loved it. The chicken is breaded almost like katsu. This place definitely satisfies a Thai food craving. The drunken noodles have a good kick to them, with perfectly cooked veggies tossed in (not soggy nor limp!). The service is quick and friendly. Right on Valencia street, so a good place to pop into after walking around.
google avatar

Matthew A.

Yelp
Solid Thai spot. I tried the menu favorite Khao Soi. I haven't seen Khao soi on too many menus at Thai restaurants but it was nice to see this unique dish from Northern Thailand available. The chicken was tender, noodles perfect consistency and not overly soggy. Tried the drunken noodles as well and enjoyed the spicy kick. It can be hard to cater to all spice desires but I thought this was a good default. If you like spicy you could ask them to make it more spicy.

Yuchong Z.

Yelp
The service is really good and I enjoy the meal! I had a good time with my friends. We haven't ate Thai food for a while and it's good. The first Thai food in sf I had

Yelp
Flavors were just ok and felt sick after eating :/ I got a thai fried rice and a pad see ew.
google avatar

Holly L.

Yelp
Cute spot great for a weekend brunch. It's a short walk from the BART so accessible by transit. They serve both Thai food and American options, which I found confusing but also intriguing. The food here is good but forgettable in a sense. The service and pricing were decent also. Though I have no complaints, I've not considered coming back here and don't have a desire to do so. I appreciate the food, service, and ambiance, though again, I kind of forgot about this place and had to google to jolt my memory into remembering as I came across my receipt from here when I organized my wallet.

Yelp
Quick delivery! Pa-Naeng Curry - 4/5 great flavor, not very spicy but a subtle kick to it. Small portion of rice, but overall good flavors! Would order again Pad Thai with chicken - 3/5, a little bland on flavor, but did come in a reasonable portion and was still ok to eat. Would not order again Cream Cheese Taffies - 4.5/5, really good flavor and the sweet & sour sauce with it was really great! I was hoping these were like a wonton or Rangoon, and the concept was there. Would order again.
google avatar

Erin J.

Yelp
DId they change their name from Blue Pea? Anyways, have had the pineapple fried rice and the pad thai. Pad thai is decent but the pineapple fried rice was nothing special. Would come back again, it wasn't bad or anything. Just not stand out.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious Thai food and great service! We had the Sumai, spring rolls and the drunken noodles. They were all very flavorful and the service was very attentive. Will return.

Yelp
What a find! Some concern after walking in to an almost empty dining area - but glad we gave it a chance. Must have those corn fritters. Hopefully more give this place a shot - it'd be a shame to lose.

Yelp
Super tasty food. Excellent service. Great price. Garlic black pepper tofu is good. They're good at accommodating vegetarians. Good communication skills.

Yelp
Cozy, favorite seat is at the window booth. Great food! Excellent and kind hospitality.

Yelp
So they close early and will be mad at you if you come after 215. The lady was so rude about us ordering literally insisting we order as we walk in didn't even sit down. She got mad saying she had to get home because the owner told her she needed to close on time. My friend wanted to leave but I honestly felt bad for her distraught state and figured she'd come around. Which she did she came and apologized. I offered to pay immediately so she could close the register. Then our food came and she never came and checked on us so I went to the bar area looking for chili paste and she got mad saying she'd come to us. Well that never happened. Then she finally took my card and after waiting for so long I asked for a beer and she said she couldn't it was closing time. She kept saying "next time" I told her it'll be "last time" also food was OK
google avatar

Adrian P.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Chicken wings were amazing. Wish they would include Sriracha on the side since it's never super spicy but the flavor was great. Loved it and will definitely be back

Yelp
It was very easy to make a reservation yesterday on Open Table as the promised a nice 100 points for dining at Krua Thai. We did indeed dine there in their very small restaurant that was virtually empty. We were seated at a tiny table that did not have sufficient room for our appetizers and entrees although the food was fairly good so we left a nice tip. This morning, the restaurant canceled the reservation to keep us from receiving Open Table points even though we did indeed dine there. Upon contacting the restaurant, we were told there is nothing they can do and suggested we try it again. As history has a tendency too repeat itself, that is probably not a good idea. Perhaps a different Thai Food adventure in San Francisco will be mor enjoyable.

Rafael P.

Yelp
Love Thai Tea, Great Food, Good Customer Service, Good time when me and my friends come.

Yelp
Decided to let Blue Pea be our next new Thai resto to try. Ordered delivery at 11:15 and received the order at 1:13 :/ Food arrived hot/warm thankfully. My mom ordered fried shumai, avocado fresh roll, and garlic noodles with salmon. I ordered khao soi. I have a tendency to be picky when delivery takes longer than expected, so as I inspected the food, best believe I had my food critic goggles on. The shumai $8 for small 8 pieces. It was okay, not memorable. Hard to mess this up. Probably won't order again. Avocado fresh roll looks different from the photo. See photo attached. Mostly tasted the lettuce, cucumber, and avocado; still refreshing regardless. Next time, wish they could add the mint (menu food description) and sesame seeds (photo description). It also looked to have cherry tomato on the photo, not sure about that though. Their peanut sauce brought the flavor punch. This was $10. My mom says she would order this again. As for the garlic noodles and fried salmon, she said it was flavorful, but too tough for her teeth since it appeared overfried. We were actually expecting the salmon to be seared, not fried. I tried some of her leftover garlic noodles and I enjoyed it! They were chewy and garlicky. This was $17. The main event was definitely the Khao Soi for me! I had to commute somewhere before digging in when it arrived, but I placed the curry in the microwave for three minutes and assembled everything in a bowl and was in heaven. The Khao Soi came with chicken, cilantro, pickle, shallot, and lime. I ordered it to be spicy. It wasn't too spicy where I needed my mouth to cool down while eating, it was the kind of spicy that you could still taste the flavor of the food and keep eating. The spice and lime juice complimented the creaminess of the coconut curry. It was so rich and certainly, a bit addicting. The pickles and shallot were a great contrast. I'll probably request extra cilantro next time since I barely even tasted any. Definitely recommend! $15.

Yelp
Our last meal from here was great, so we ordered again. Cream cheese tassies. What a treat. Crab and cream cheese and scallions in pastry, what's not to like. Their Pad Thai makes the whole house smile, so delicious and tasty that everyone has a bit, enough to share. Their Massaman curry is out of this world, such incredible flavors, so deep and subtle at the same time. Excellent. It all showed up quickly and was still hot. Way to go! Enjoy!

Yelp
Too expensive and way too much garlic. Also it is impossible to pickup because Valencia's stupid business killing center bike lane.
google avatar

Lisa X.

Yelp
Ordered via delivery. Excited to try this restaurant (new to me), I placed an order for the following: -Avocado fresh roll. Tasty, especially with the spicy pb dipping sauce. -Grilled chicken salad. So good! The chicken was perfectly grilled and the cilantro dressing was perfect on this salad. -Avocado curry with shrimp. Oh wow, this is amazing! I generally prefer green curries anyway, but this is really nice with the avocado chunks (perfectly cut) and the shrimp tasted so good. -Khao Soi with chicken. Got this specifically for the Hb. He likes a good khao soi but he (and I both) found this to be too salty. I do like the pickles that came with it though. So tasty. Less salty would be appreciated. Delivery was prompt (even a bit earlier than expected) and everything was packed well. Still really hot when food arrived. Except for the khao soi being way too salty, this would have been a 5 star meal.

Yelp
It was a super sunny day and i decided to meet up with a friend for lunch to escape the work from home isolation. I ordered the papaya salad with Shrimp and the pad see yew with pork and a thai iced tea. Everything was delicious and huge servings. I had plenty of left overs. Also sat in the front area with a huge window... the view was nice and the ambiance felt tranquil. Service was also great... they really took care of us with multiple water refills (i am a camel!). I will be back!

Yelp
This is a decent Thai joint in the Mission. It has outdoor seating and is surrounded by other bars and food spots, so the area is fairly lively (or at least was so on a Sunday night.) It can get pretty loud, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a date night spot. We walked over and sat outside; service was friendly and was pretty prompt. The menu is smaller than other Thai spots I'm used to, and doesn't offer beef or pork as meats for entrees (although a few appetizers contain pork.) Vegetarian friendly menu as well. We got the pork potstickers to start off with, then I ordered the garlic and pepper chicken and my boyfriend ordered the chicken pad kee mao. They were all fine; I think lacking some savory depth - we asked for some chili sauce halfway through and that definitely improved the flavor. It was good leftovers the next day (portions were fairly big) and would probably be a nice takeout staple. One thing to note - rice doesn't come with entrees; it's a dollar extra. Prices were about on par with SF prices, which is to say a little more expensive.
google avatar

Inigo M.

Yelp
The bland, average Red Curry Chicken should be renamed "Vegetarian's Guilty Pleasure" because it has a tiny amount of chicken that they have the audacity to charge an extra $1 for. Pleasant staff.
google avatar

Katilyn P.

Yelp
This restaurant was the first place I ate at in San Francisco and I LOVED it. Such great menu options and each dish was better than the next. The green curry has wonderful veggies in it--everything from broccoli to peas to eggplant. The fried mushroom was a pleasant surprise and tasted really good mixed into a fried rice entree. Would 10/10 recommend for a cute vibe and delicious vegetarian Thai options in the mission!
google avatar

Michael Angelo R.

Yelp
This place is cheaper than other Thai places. Was it good? Yes. Service? Excellent. Ambiance? We sat outside and it's in the Mission; who doesnt like to people watch? We had the chicken fried rice and garlic noodle and chicken samosas. Will I come back? YES.
google avatar

Sarai T.

Yelp
I am a picky bitch. Especially when it comes to Thai food. That's how I will start. I came here out of desperation and was a bit disappointed. I ordered green curry and sticky rice. My sticky rice was yellow, strange and my tofu was breaded- also strange. Nothing tasted bad, just not great. I asked for hot sauce and got cholula - very strange. This place is just awkward- and I don't think I'll come back. I ate my food, it was fine and I tipped but jalapeños in curry, cholula hot sauce and yellow sticky rice is out of my comfort zone. My boyfriend liked his crab fried rice, but he is not picky and ...it's rice!!
google avatar

Clara P.

Yelp
Overall, a cute little brunch/thai place in one, but the food was underwhelming. Kimchi Fries 2/5: Not enough kimchi for something that has Kimchi in the name. Underwhelming. Pad see ew 3.5/5: Nothing too special about it, was just normal pad see ew you'd get at any thai place. It felt a bit oily though.
google avatar

Lily T.

Yelp
Ordered spring rolls to go but honestly very disappointed to find multiple avocado pieces that weren't fresh and clearly had gone bad, could only eat one piece and the avocado just didn't look or taste right. I'm not sure why it's okay to give people bad quality ingredients. What a disappointing experience, hope I don't get sick from the one piece I ate, and will not be returning ever.Avocado Fresh Roll

Samantha P.

Yelp
Ordered take out and my pad see ew had what I description a piece of fabric or stop of cloth in the noodles. Was literally the size of my fork. I order from here often and I have officially been disgusted and disappointed by this place.

Edric T.

Yelp
I love this place. A nice Thai restaurant. The food was good and waitresses were so friendly!
google avatar

Angela N.

Yelp
I would NEVER ever recommend OR order from this business again: AND I told them this when I called to make the order right. The person answering the phone refused to help - I explained very specifically that I accidentally doubled ordered. She did not want to help me and after calling 5 or 6 times no one would answer the phone. I hate this. uugh I hate that restaurants don't want to help you correct mistakes you accidentally made on GrubHub or any other online platform. I'm done. They will not get my business any longer

Taylor J.

Yelp
Great food and fast service! Do not miss an opportunity to try this Mission District spot.

Yelp
Blue Pea is actually a pop-up run by RAW Sugar Factory, which means that when you go to RAW Sugar Factory, you can order either brunchy/lunchy items or more traditional Thai dishes. It only took a couple of minutes for food to be ready (a HUGE plus, because parking is expensive in the SF area). I ordered the basil stir-fry with shrimp, and thought it tasted amazing! There was just enough level of spiciness to balance out the sweetness of the stir-fry sauce they used. I also got a pretty generous portion of shrimp and veggies at a very reasonable price. I'd highly recommend Blue Pea if you're in the mood for Thai food.

Yelp
Came in for a late dinner and had a good time (great dinner companions helped with that).... Started with samosas -quite good and a good one to share...fried, filled with taro root and served with pickled cucumber. Followed by blue pea pad thai per recommendation from the waitress... it was ok, good amount of chicken & shrimp, but the noodles were a bit too sweet for me. Drinks were interesting and service was good...

Manny B.

Yelp
Excellent basil fried rice with the perfect amount of spice. The chicken, vegetables, and jalapeños were super fresh. They also have Great service. Plus this is one of the only restaurants to serve Thai food in the morning time. Enjoy..
