Highlights

Do you enjoy a delicious morning treat? How about a hot glazed donut? Krumpe's Do-Nuts is one of the most popular secrets of Western Maryland. Since 1934, Krumpe's has been baking fresh donuts nightly. Rudolf Max Krumpe began making these delicious treats in the 1930's. Rudolf founded Mother Krumpe's Do-Nuts, opening 5 locations including one in Hagerstown, MD. During WWII rationing forced the shops to close except the Do-Nut House in Funkstown, MD where they made fresh donuts, serving breakfast and lunch until the 1980's. While growing up, Rudolf's son, Max Krumpe worked alongside his father. Upon his return from the Merchant Marine in the late 1940's, Max and his wife Juanita took over the donut bakery from his father and began Krumpe's Do-Nut Shop. Krumpe's began by making the donuts at night and delivered them in the morning to local stores. With the help of the family they were able to build a great reputation and expanded their delivery routes throughout Washington Count

"Looking for more of a snack than a meal? At Krumpe’s in Hagerstown, travelers can grab a bunch of refreshingly not-fancy doughnuts in flavors like chocolate cake and raspberry jelly. There are also eclairs and doughnut holes. Keep an eye on the website for hours, though — right now, they’re only operational in the evenings." - Missy Frederick

Google
Very small family owned "do nut" shop in the middle of an alley. The line may sometimes be very long and may discourage you to leave. But you should stay and you should try them! They have exceptional customer service, and in my opinion, if you want the best doughnuts in town, this is where you go. Locals and tourists alike. Make sure to look for the specialty donut.

Google
This is such a unique, fun, and delicious spot! The introduction to after dinner desert donuts has rocked my world! Their cake donut is a thing of beauty, and waking up to another by my side made for a truly unforgettable morning. The atmosphere is awesome, the staff are really friendly and efficient, and the outdoor line has a great local, jovial feel.

Google
Hidden in an alley... It's likely you would drive right by. But the line of faithful customers is easy to follow. You will wait a while to get in. It's a to go shop attached to a bakery... Built in a converted shed. Once you get to the front of the line... The fast friendly staff will provide you with the list of what they have today. Things sell out so I recommend coming early. But all the choices were enjoyed. Bought several boxes and everyone who got a box asks us "are you going back out that way anytime soon?" Great place to pick up a desert or dozen.

Went there around 10:40 PM. They ran out of most flavors, got Glazed, Bavarian creme, and chocolate donuts. Glazed and Bavarian are light, tasty, crunchy, and flavourful

I finally got to visit Krumpe’s after hearing so many great things. They did not disappoint! I got a dozen donuts, each a different kind, and all of them were great, even after being a few days old. (It takes a while to eat a dozen, haha!) I was surprised at how long the line was on a Monday night. The staff worked quickly to fill all orders and answered all of my questions. I even got a free glazed donut for being a first time customer! While the location seems odd, it is very charming. The next time I’m in the area I’ll be back!

OK, hold up!!! Where have I been all my life and I hadn't heard of this place 🤔 I know, if you are from the surrounding area this place is a staple for sure. When you go there you literally step back in time to the 1950's. Small tiny place with a line of people standing outside to get their sugary little DO-NUT. I say little because they are half the size of a standard donut (see picture) BUT the taste, texture, and place totally makes up for it. It was freezing 🥶 outside and people had smiles 😊 on their faces. It was really a pleasure and I would love ❤️ to bring one of these places to our town of Old Ellicott City. AMAZING 👏 We will be BACK 😃

Google
Love love love this place. Been coming here since I was a kid. It’s a must anytime we’re in the area after 7. Staff has always been friendly and upbeat. Always have a great selection of donuts. Freshly made and served warm. Can’t wait for our next trip.

Google
Stopped in just before they closed to grab a dozen donuts for in the morning. I saw Krumpe's has their own bagged coffee and I asked if it was a medium or dark roast... the owner went and brewed coffee right on the spot so that I could try it... AWESOME coffee!! It's a darker roast, smooth and fresh, without the high-acid taste or burning stomach. I will most definitely be returning for one of their hand-thrown mugs and a couple bags of coffee!!!

Yelp
Get on the bandwagon - it is THAT good. I know, right? Yelp had recommended it to me. An old college friend visiting me in BALTIMORE said "oh, maybe I can get to Krumpe's since it's only an hour away!" What? it's just a donut shop. I had to find out how good they were. So when the family and I happened to be in the area, we stopped in. First off, it's small. Like, more-than-six-people-inside-feels-crowded small. They'll hand you a menu with the different flavors and types. They were friendly and patient. The prices are reasonable. Being our first time and having that FOMO, we got a dozen with a variety. Every single donut was delicious. A standout for me was the special of the month - chocolate chip cookie - which had a delicious cookie butter cream in it. Make this part of the regular rotation, Krumpe's! I also thoroughly enjoyed the peanut twist. So what's so great about the donuts? I think that the shop is only open 4 hours a night and is so popular that the donuts keep turning over means FRESH, often slightly warm, donuts. On top of that, the texture. They're light but pleasantly chewy, not doughy like what some other donut shops churn out. Pro-tips: First off, they offer a cheaper price if you pay cash. Second, it's down an alley. Don't be spooked; it's well-lit and there are so many people around also there to get donuts. I was surprised that the alley had a few spots to park as well. We parked on the street just outside the shop and as we ate our donuts in the car, we watched people of all walks of life heading for the thing that unites us all: we love donuts and Krumpe's is our standard bearer. Next time you're in the Hagerstown area in the evening, drop in for some awesome donuts.

Yelp
Was in the area for work & stumbled upon this wonderful small donuts shop located behind a bakery. I stopped by, bought a quick half dozen & was pleasantly surprised. With classics like jelly filled, glazed, powdered & cream filled. They were all delicious but they usually have a donut of the month & that months was the snickers which was really good. The employees were polite, quick & informative when I asked questions as it was my first time there. Seems like when there is good weather they can be a bit busy, with a line our the door. They open at 7pm which I thought was wonderful and a bit of charm for this small local shop that seems to have a huge following with their locals. Will always make sure to stop in when I'm in the area

Nicole M.

Yelp
I'm visiting the area and my cousin brought this into my life. I was told (but didn't see myself) that supplies can run low quickly due to high demand. So it is important to get there ASAP to get a better variety. I'm definitely pleased

Jacintha T.

Yelp
Peaches & Cream Light and fluffy cream. The donut was soft. Fresh peach slice on top. I love this seasonal flavor. Peanut Butter Twist Great peanut butter glaze over their soft donut. I love this local favorite place! All of the donuts are freshly made and not overly sweet. Note that they are only open in the evenings. #CynBitesThisFeedsMySoulStatus

Martin S.

Yelp
I love everything about this place. The atmosphere and weird hours make it feel like some secret spot known only to the locals. For how long the line gets it moves pretty fast! I've been multiple times and my donuts are fresh and soft every single time and there is just no beating the prices.

Doug L.

Yelp
They have the BEST donuts! We were in the area for a short vacation and got to stop by here on night. We are glad we did as they make the best donuts we have ever had.

Jenny D.

Yelp
We were recommended to come by a Hagerstowner and we were not disappointed. It's a bit strange hours and a strange place to find parking BUT they were so nice, they gave us newbies a donut each and their special filled donuts were only 4.69 for half a dozen!! Was so surprised and happy. The Apple one was amazing, we also got the special monthly pumpkin cake one, the chocolate donut, and raspberry filled donuts which I'm saving for later. Would definitely recommend and would definitely be back!!

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Yum yum yum.... They are small, but so yummy. Prefer the cake donuts .... Donuts should have holes!

Ms.tash C.

Yelp
Good donuts and soft!! Line went fast price was good. Friendly service! If back in the area will return!

Colin B.

Yelp
Amazing donuts in a hidden alley. Worth the short wait and will definitely be back the next time I am in the area. Raspberry filled are the best!

Gina R.

Yelp
Best donuts around here. Almost as good as Shipleys in Houston. Would be better if they were open during the day hours instead of just night time.

MB C.

Yelp
The absolute best! A family business that creates amazing treats, provides excellent service, and gives back to the community. Support Krumpe's!

Nicolette T.

Yelp
Wow my first experience at Krumpe's and certainly not my last. It's such a hole in the wall, you may get turned around finding it. They are only open at night, but it is so worth the wait. These are some of the best donuts I have ever tasted. You can't go wrong with any selection, as they are made daily. So fresh. My favorite is the cake style donuts!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
My golly, good mighty! This little gem of a place is only open 7-11PM but goodness is it worth every minute to stand in line for some fresh hot donuts! The donut holes are my fave as you just pop them Suckers in your mouth and they just melt and you're in a life full of donut delish! Sad I don't live in Hagerstown and I wish the bf could bring some down to SC but eating them next day just isn't the same.

Joshua K.

Yelp
These are the tastiest, freshest donuts you will ever eat! Just get over the fact that you buy them from a back alley in the middle of the night... It's worth the sketch factor!!! Get the glazed donuts right out of the glazing bath... They are warm and go down like butta; you'll have downed three before you even realize it.

Jason H.

Yelp
Wow. Just, Wow. Since 1936, Krumpe's has been serving Hagerstown one of the most delicious treats for miles around. People come from miles and miles away, stand in long lines in all of the elements of weather and have been doing this for generations. All for the famous, Krumpe's do-nuts. I'm not a native to the area but I am there frequently on business. Some of my local coworkers introduced me to this gem. I have gone over and over again. I have taken family, friends and customers alike to this one of a kind amazing destination. It's not like your typical donut shop. It's very small, it's in an alley that was literally named Donut Alley. You'll find a small non descript store front. You will also surely find a line of people waiting for the goods. Good old fashioned traditional donuts. Tasty creations that wind up being the donut of the month. The most solid donut shop that I can say I've ever been to. The best part is, it's incredibly affordable. For being some of the best donuts I've ever had in my life, the price point doesn't match the goodness. They are extremely cheap. I almost feel like I'm ripping somebody off. Would I go back? Absolutely. Often, all too often and way too often. I can't stay away from this place when I am in town. Now you need to know that they have quirky hours. They're only open from 7 PM to 11 PM. That's the only window of opportunity you have, each night, to get the goods. Don't miss out. If you're in the area, and you have the time, this is a must. If you don't have the time, make the time! I guarantee that you won't regret it.

Mike S.

Yelp
I've been going to Krumpe's for 50+ years and it's always great. In fact, I'm heading over there in a few minutes to pick up a dozen.

C H.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible Fastnachts! Well worth the wait. I favor the glazed, my partner prefers powdered. We'll be back again & again!

Gail P.

Yelp
Delish donuts!! Just a small building that doesn't open until 7pm. Get in line and get some delicious donuts. Light and airy - try the peanut butter twist!!

Cara D.

Yelp
Best donuts around. Period. Well, I suppose not period. Only because yelp required me to continue writing.

Lothchana F.

Yelp
Great donut! Always try the donut of the month! Be there early so you don't have to wait in the long lines.

Curt J.

Yelp
The best and freshest donuts one can buy in the area and now I see why people stand in line at this back street business!!! Go if you have the chance!!!

Christine H.

Yelp
What an interesting hidden gem this place is! The donuts were on the smaller side but I think the history of this place and the lightness of the dough makes this experience a unique one. I'd definitely be back when I'm next in town!

Lisa G.

Yelp
Expect a line no matter what time you go but you'll be getting the freshest donuts ever! Flavor of the week is always fun! Umayyad donuts... come closer to MoCo and support my diabetes!

Aisha M.

Yelp
This is one of the best donut shops I have been to. If you want certain kinds of desserts, you need to call in before they open to make sure they'll have them because they sell out. The donuts are light and not-over-sweet, so they are basically perfection. You can eat a few and not feel like you just got diabeetus. I think all of them are worth trying and even the plain ones are delicious! Their eclairs are really great if you can get your hands on them.

James L.

Yelp
I'm glad the cupcake craze of the last decade is over. I never understood the concept of paying $5 for a small pastry which was consumed in 4 bites. But within the last couple of years, it seems like the "artisanal donut" fad is upon us. With places like Duck Donuts, Sugar Shack, and Astro Donuts and Fried Chicken, it is now in vogue (and acceptable) to charge upwards of $3 for fried dough. Well, I'm here to say Krumpe's DO-Nut Shop in Hagerstown might very well be the BEST purveyor of donuts in the entire DMW. Granted Hagerstown is about an hour's drive from downtown DC, but trust me friends, it's worth it! And when Krumpe's is described as a "hidden gem," take it literally. Your GPS will take you through different twists and turns and you'll likely pass by this establishment a few times, since it is located in a small back alley which is hard to miss; just look for the street signs indicating "Donut Alley". And there is a protocol to getting donuts at Krumpe's. First, the place is only open from 7pm-2am. Yep, seems like odd hours, but from the time the doors open to when they close, there is usually line out the door of this small shack with people in search of fresh donuts. Secondly, because there are hardly any parking spots, don't dilly-dally if you're lucky enough to get a spot. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO ORDER AHEAD OF TIME. Here's a link from their website with their sumptuous offerings: http://krumpesdonuts.com/do-nuts/ And lastly, do yourself a favor and order the dozen. Donuts here start under a dollar for the plain glazed and go up from there. I ordered a few glazed, some of the Bavarian filled, and some chocolate cake donuts. As you're standing in line, you can see the army of workers in the back, frying batch after batch, and then applying the various glazes and toppings. Once you get your fried treasures, hop in your car, and vacate the spot for the next hungry patron. But just drive out of the alley, pull over, and enjoy a few bites. Mmmm...will be your first reaction. The donuts are pillowy soft and clouds of steam will escape with each bite. The texture is excellent, and the glazes are not too sweet. I'm lucky I don't live near Krumpe's, otherwise, I'd definitely put on an extra 10 lbs from my daily donut habit. This is definitely a must do, if you're visiting Hagerstown. TIP: If you mention that this is your first visit to Krumpe's, they will give you a free plain glazed donut to try!!!

Vaughn T.

Yelp
Local favorite! Aye then growing up and and when I visit I always come back. Love them!!!

Michelle D.

Yelp
Krumpe's DO-Nut Shop is the bomb! They are open 7 PM to 2 AM. So many freshly made donuts when you walk through the door you think you have died and gone to donut heaven. My niece and I ordered 12 donuts (but we only had a few each lol), several plain glazed which melt in your mouth like little clouds. The total was $7 and some change. We ordered a couple of raspberry filled with powdered sugar. These donuts are addicting lol! I also had a glazed stuffed with white cream filling and chocolate icing on top. Out of the three I tried my favorite was the plain glazed because you can microwave it for 6-8 seconds and bring it back to life. But it helps to put them in a baggy when you get home to keep them fresh! We arrived at 10:30 PM, just before the crowd. It's hard to pick which donuts to buy because there are so many to choose from and they are all delicious! You can't go wrong by making a late night run to Krumpe's!

Jesse P.

Yelp
Amazing local donuts. This has been a Hagerstown staple for decades. It's worth waiting in Donut Alley in all sorts of weather just for some hot warm Krumpees!

Jen F.

Yelp
If you are visiting the area and have time in the evening to go by (hours are 7 to 11 PM), it's worth getting these donuts for the experience alone. A family tradition since the 1930s!! The address is on Maryland Ave, but you turn onto W First St and then turn right down the first alley you come to...look for the DoNut Alley and "man serving donuts" street signs (loved that!). The donuts we got were good the next day too.

Paul W.

Yelp
This is in Hagerstown Maryland you have people come all over Maryland to get this donuts. They are some of the greatest donuts ever. There so fresh and delicious. One of the best things about Hagerstown. It's tucked away in a donut alley. So if you live or visit Hagerstown md. Come to this hidden gem you will not be disappointed.

Douglas R.

Yelp
They changed the donuts years ago not as good plus hanging in alley isn't my thing to buy donuts back 20 years ago they were fire now they are ok sad cause they were my child hood fav

Hippie C.

Yelp
Going to Krumpes is something that takes me back to my childhood. My parents used to take me and my brothers to dinner every Friday night, and then we would go stand in line to order donuts to take home to eat while we watched a movie. That became a tradition and something that we very much looked forward to for well over a decade. As I have gotten older, I have noticed changes to those once scrumptious donuts. Not only has the price doubled, yeah... I get it... inflation... BUT- the price doubled, but the donuts shrank. They are probably 3/4 of the size they used to be. I am probably in the minority here...because everyone in Hagerstown seems to LOVE Krumpes.... But I just do not. I would much rather go to Krispy Kreme! I love chocolate iced donuts, but there is no comparison between a glazed KK chocolate iced donut, to Krumpes chocolate iced twist. AND - any time that I do eat a donut from Krumpes, it feels like my mouth has been coated with grease (guess it's the lard that is used to fry the donuts) and that doesn't happen with KK!

Sandra L.

Yelp
Krumpe's is located on Donut Alley in Hagerstown. If you are not from the area, use GPS, because it is an actual alley. They do have specific hours, so check the website in advance. Krumpe's has been around for over 80 years. So it is a Hagerstown staple for sure. The donuts are always fresh (hence the specific hours of operation). They are light and fluffy and awesome when you can get them hot. I highly recommend the donut holes. Definitely my favorite! Although they do have different kinds of donuts to choose from. They will be happy to cater your events, just ask. They participate in several local events throughout the year including a marathon and a donut drop for NYE.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Cute hometown donut shop. They have a small variety of donuts and they're all made fresh that day - it shows. The donuts are VERY small, about 3 bites for a donut but that's perfect for me because I don't eat a lot of sweets. I wish the hours were a LITTLE bit longer, as I usually can't get there in time to get anything but the few items they have left at the end of the night because of my work schedule. They pretty much never have my favorite flavor anytime past 9pm - the chocolate donut. They have cool monthly and weekly donut flavor features - everything is good, it's cheap, and service is quick and friendly. Note - on busier nights there may be a long line and there are only about 4 parking spots, but it's worth it. I'm not even a big donut person and I love this spot. A hagerstown classic.

Kenya G.

Yelp
I came for fastnacht day and they didn't disappoint! It was extremely efficient with a line around the corner I only waited like 15 minutes tops and that includes how long I waited once I ordered. The fastnacht was the only option they do for the day but they were yummy! To think I may live closer soon...I may become a regular lol. Overall, I definitely recommend. I understand why they are a town staple.

Michael S.

Yelp
Best donuts in Maryland hands down. Yes the hours are weird but man...this is the place. If you are driving through Hagerstown you have to try these!!!

Brooke S.

Yelp
Always a delicious late night treat. The donuts are very good, and a good price. The parking lot is small, but you can easily park on the street around the corner. Be prepared for a line out the door. The line typically takes a good amount of time (20 mins depending on the traffic), so be aware of that.

Ismarie R.

Yelp
Love this place. Donuts are 'melt in your mouth' delicious. They also cater to schools!

Sara S.

Yelp
I'm based in Philadelphia but was planning an event for a Hagerstown business and Krumpe's was recommended for donuts. Max was super pleasant to work with, donuts were delicious, and the full order was inexpensive. Highly recommend!

Matthew H.

Yelp
Nice staff quality donuts classical cozy feeling airy but heavily flavored donuts overall 7.52/10.

Rhonda R.

Yelp
A hidden gem in Hagerstown on Donut Alley. Well worth the hour drive. These donuts will not leave big grease marks in your box or leave that nasty coating on the roof of your mouth. By far the best donut I have ever eaten. Perfection! Sorry Dunkin but you lose.

Gee T.

Yelp
Every town should have their own small town donut shop like Krumpe's. When friends or family come for an overnight visit we get Krumpe's for the next day's breakfast but many times they are eaten that night!

Chloe M.

Yelp
Lovely, quaint donut shop. Love the donuts and chocolate milk they offer. They always taste great. Staff is always very nice. It's a bit hard to get in and out of since it's in an alley with not much parking. But it's 100% worth it.

Lauren M.

Yelp
You can't beat the prices and quality of their donuts. It's located on a back alley, and there isn't a TON of parking, but cars were constantly moving and arriving so we had no problems. While there was a short line, and we had to remain outside due to covid, it moved very quickly. They had a sign out front so that we could figure out our order before going in.

Sarah S.

Yelp
My husband brought back some of these donuts after a work meeting because he knows how much I love donuts. While these aren't anything fancy, they are GOOD and authentic. Gently crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The glazed and chocolate glazed were my favorite - not overly sweet and sugary but amazing flavor and bliss in your mouth. We also tried the powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar - all were delicious, you can't go wrong! Whenever we are in Hagerstown we will be coming back here.

Karla B.

Yelp
Delicious!!! Freshest donuts out there! Hours are minimal but regardless of the crowd you move through quickly and get the tastiest donuts!

Alexis H.

Yelp
This well-kept hometown secret is quickly becoming famous! Tucked into an alley, this donut shop is cranking out hot, fresh, delicious donuts! So worth the special trip or a detour on your drive! You won't be sorry! My favorites are the Long John and glazed. Ask about their Monthly Special!

Jj F.

Yelp
best donuts so far in Maryland!!! the prices are very reasonable and selection is great and menu is easy to read. due to it location in back alley, parking is limit so get there early. i love the glaze donuts especially when fresh and hot. customer service is great too. when I'm in Hagerstown I always make a stop there.

Katie S.

Yelp
Hot and delicious donuts! We got them right when they opened at 7PM. Worth the drive to Hagerstown! The coconut one in my photo was SO good.
