"All Kruse & Muer locations are offering a hearty package for $130 that includes glazed ham, mac and cheese, green beans almondine, and apple cobbler. It’s enough food for four to six people, and if that’s not your thing, all locations will be open for carry out with their regular menus, too (but only until 7 p.m.)." - Brenna Houck, Tim Forster

Great place for a good meal in downtown Rochester. Food has been consistently good every time I’ve visited. Recommend fresh seafood items

Google
The service was top-notch! The food was good, the fish was too fishy for my tastebuds, but the Parmesan crust was delicious.

Mythical Dreams

The atmosphere was amazing and our server Ryan was immaculate. However, the food unfortunately was a huge let down. The calamari was dry and needed more sauce. My lobster and shrimp fettuccine alfredo was flavorless and had a weird texture. My mom also sent her dish back and got the mushrooms instead, which were just okay.

Google
Nice. Always a good experience so no complaints. The bbq chicken pizza is wonderful!!! Service is good. Love the fresh bread before the appetizer. The only thing that ever came out bad was a chocolate mousse - waxy and whipped too long … gross - so I wouldn’t recommend that. But, worth a visit if your in Rochester.

It is one of the best restaurants. Great atmosphere. Quick services. Fresh ingredients. Friendly staff. Amazing service

Google
Always the best! We have been Distinguished Guest members for at least 20 years. We still renew our membership even though we no longer live in MI (formerly Clarkston). We eat at as many K&M restaurants as we can during summer and Christmas visits. Tonight...Kruse & Muer on Main in Rochester. Came in at 8pm and it was still crazy! But it's worth it. Alex, our server, was great! I had their signature "Seafood Panroast" (shrimp, scallops, lobster in a cream sauce with rice pilaf...pic is of about half...I started eating before I remembered to take the pic!). This dish is heaven!! Hubby had their fish and chips...the cod was sooo fresh and flaky! Topped it off with a Sanders Hot Fudge Cream Puff (a MI thing!) We wish they would start a restaurant in the Naples area!

Google
Awesome dinner, great service. Our party of 7 had no trouble with making a reservation, and had a great time. Our server was great. Best bread ever! Awesome suggestions for meal ideas, and everyone was satisfied with their food. All of the meals were served at one time. Appetizers were great. Love the location, and the ambiance! We will be back.

Google
Overall a really great business lunch with customers. The restaurant is well decorated and has a good atmosphere. Seating was great for a large group. The calamari appetizers along with the artichoke dip were top notch. The fresh bread they serve is also amazing. The chowder was disappointing as it was room temperature also my main dish the scallops were very gritty. Besides these issues it was a great meal and an overall great experience I would recommend.

Yelp
I eat here every few years when I'm in town and it continues to impress and be worth the effort! I'm always worried it won't be as good as I remember in my head, but it is.

Yelp
September 30, 2023 Review #443 There are sooo many different types of restaurants in Downtown Rochester from coffee cafe and sandwiches, Knapp's burger joint, Chinese, Mexican, Italian plus Steak and Seafood. Kruse and Muer is a local chain serving up American dishes and specializing in Italian, Steaks, Seafood and Charley's Chowder! I enjoyed a relaxed, dining experience here at Kruse and Muer for My SpecialK Birthday on Sunday, 9/17/2023. The restaurant Ambiance along with comfortable seating and soft music set the celebration. The efficient service from waiter Cameron was on point with special attention to Me and My family while dining for a couple of hours. The cocktails, Complimentary soft warm seasoned baguette bread paired well with our delicious house salads and Charley's Chowder. My main entree Maryland Crab Cakes were very tasty and broiled to perfection with Red Rice Pilaf and Green Beans My favorite! :-) Photos attached as well! Everyone in My family party enjoyed their dinners too from Charley's Chowder, Seafood Lobster Fettuccine, Seafood Panroast # and Grilled Chicken Fettuccine. All were cooked and plated with tasteful flavors and plentiful too! What a sweet surprise for dessert was a Birthday Hot Fudge Sundae and candle. Family sang to Me! :-) History: Chuck Muer owns many famous Charlie's Crab restaurants. Bill Kruse and Chuck became friends back to 1972. Yelp
Sad! This is a sad excuse for a piece of salmon. I put it on my food scale...It's 2.5 ounces not the 4 the manager claimed it to be. Absolutely not worth the money

Anna T.

Yelp
Customer service equals gang. Tortellini and chicken was pretty OKayly fire. I come from an Italian household so i'm used to good pasta so I wouldn't rate this a 10 out of 10, but I would probably give it a five. Realistically I feel this is fitting. Met some new friends Lane and Jackie. Especially gang to these two for holding down the big group of girls my back may be bigger, but my heart is full so it's my stomach.

Sohaib L.

Yelp
Was really looking forward to eating here. The best thing was the starter bread. The rest of food was not cooked to perfection. Fish and Crab cakes were over cooked and on dry side. The green beans were bland. The pasta had way too much salt. They even were out of chilled San pallegrino. The server was very polite. And definitely felt like a nice place to dine out for a date or family gathering.

Jackie K.

Yelp
Love Kruse and Muer for a family celebration/group meal. The food is always good and the service with a large group is awesome.

Lorie C.

Yelp
Back to Kruse and Muer. You can consistently enjoy a nice dinner here. We ordered wine and a lemon drop martini which had quality and quantity. I ordered a pasta primavera with shrimp - good but not as good as last time I ordered. It had less cherries, almonds and vegetables but still tasty with enough shrimp. The perch dinner was a favorite dinner ordered multiple times in the past and still a favorite. And another dinner ordered was off the summer menu - shrimp and lobster cakes and was delicious. Dessert was the cream puff hot fudge sundae which was a little disappointing as there was hardly any ice cream but still good. Note it is served with dark chocolate not the usual milk chocolate. Noticed their new dishes - like the upgrade, keeping it fresh and updated. Love sitting in the front area with natural lighting and view of Main Street.

Christina G.

Yelp
Well let's start with the service- Ryan was the best server! Amazingly attentive, made good suggestions, took our feedback well. He was spectacular! Now- let's start with the reason we are getting a three star rating: Calamari appetizer was solid-4 stars, 2-3 minutes on the cook time almost beat our drinks to the table. Cocktails good but slow. Then the water- we had to ASK for water! Are you kidding me? We get bread and butter and cocktails but I am waiting.... Where is the water? Is this supposed to be fine dining? No water? Finally, I have to ASK for water. Definitely a deduction. Martha's Vineyard salad - okay I've been eating at Joe restaurants for years- what happened to the dried cherries? Seriously? Gone? And the salad was wilted. It was prepped in the dressing and just set on a shelf. Blah- awful. Entree- the shrimp, scallops, was great ironically my food had pilaf, my friend had pasta. Same sauce, same fruits of the sea, just a different carb. Okay not super original but the flavors were great! Finale- mousse- oh now nice job pastry kitchen well played! So it was a great evening- but I am massively peeved about the salad and water. Still crazy about the atmosphere and place. But come on! Don't cut corners on the things that matter.

Paige G.

Yelp
Service - poor, rushed, hosts consistently walking around w tablet looking at you. Server did not even ask for dessert or coffee before placing check on table. Server also never asked about served meal. Ambiance - good, it's a busy restaurant so be prepared to wait but bar is large and nice. Food- subpar at best. Filets were small and sauce was almost non existent, chicken Marsala was bland, whitefish small portion and snapper heavily-heavily blackened. Best part of this expensive meal was the bread and the calamari. There are other options in town.

Laura E.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants ever! Their bread is delicious and every dish I have tried there has been amazing, especially the Maryland chicken and the seafood pan roast. Service is pretty fast considering how busy they usually are. The ambiance can be a little noisy sometimes but you can usually still have a conversation.

Betsy K.

Yelp
Kruse & Muer has been in Rochester forever and it's a restaurant that you can always count on to have great food and great service. We went there for an early lunch today and had seafood chowder(big chunks of fish in it) crab cakes, Martha's salad (red onions, blue cheese, pinenuts, raspberry vinaigrette. It was delicious.) Cesar salad and a Maurice salad. Food came promptly, and the servers were very attentive and friendly. This is a restaurant that you can always count on. Have you recommend!!

Yelp
Unplanned visit on the suggestion of the cashier at Paint Creek Art Center, after an event there. Busy Saturday night but the service and food were spot on. We were seated after only 5 minutes of a projected 15 minute wait. Companion and I split an entree salad, Salmon & Apricot, sans salmon - which we both hate - and the Lobster & Shrimp fettuccine which was spot on perfectly executed. Warm mini baguette was put to use soaking up every last drop of rich cream sauce. Salad was a perfect starter & included plenty of candied walnuts, crumbled cheese and dried cherries & apricots. When asked if we could order without the salmon, server immediately said yes and that price would be reduced due to removal of key ingredient. Exactly the right thing to say! One caveat, salad could have benefited from addition of crisp romaine over iceberg lettuce. Dessert of warm Cider Donut bread pudding was superb! Generous swirl of cream and caramel sauce, served on the side, was the perfect ending to an autumn evening meal. One stone in the shoe of the evening was the overly loud table of six women who seemed to shout every word they spoke. Their rudeness; however, had nothing to do with the establishment -so they keep the well-deserved 5 stars.

Gordon O.

Yelp
Really, the only problem was the quality of the food. It had all the feel of slopped on cafeteria food. No crispiness to the fried calamari, sauces that tasted like they were out of a bottle, and mashed potatoes from a box. The service was great. Ambiance a little loud, but lovely and fun.

Roberto S.

Yelp
Good environment to be with friends and enjoy food and wine. You need to make reservations.

Audra S.

Yelp
Haven't been here in probably 5 years, but had a longing for their delicious pre-meal bread. Wait list was estimated at 45 min, but we were at our table in roughly 10. Unfortunately, our server was aloof at best, never cracked a smile and couldn't have cared less that we didn't get water or butter with our bread. No problem- everyone has an off night. But when the salmon with my salad was literally out-of-the-frig cold and tasted like a brick of salt, I thought I should say something. I asked if the salmon was supposed to be warm, and he said Yes- he comes right off the grill. Hmmm I don't think so. For a place known for its seafood, this was really disappointing. Not the nice restaurant experience we remembered. Bread was still good- even without the butter.

CJ M.

Yelp
Overall, a good experience. Great service and food. A little pricey for the plates, but it's the area. Would come back, but isn't a must visit. Very loud and cramped inside. Seating isn't ideal.

Tracy F.

Yelp
Delicious as usual. Service was fine but busboy could have helped a bit more. We had our empty appetizer plates sitting for a long time. Asked for more bread but didn't get it. Drinks and food were wonderful! I

Sarah H.

Yelp
Kruse and Muer remains one of my favorites if only for the bread. It has THE BEST bread anywhere-always hot, served with butter, yummy. We recently went a friend's birthday, and I had my normal Maryland Chicken. It's stuffed with the perfect amount of crab and the sauce is amazing. The mashed potatoes were yummy (I always sub them for the rice) if not super hot. My husband ordered the salmon and it was fine. He enjoyed it but was not blown away. My friends ordered the raspberry chicken salad which she enjoyed and the Shrimp of the Angels special. His complaint was that the pasta was fairly tasteless but the seafood was good. Overall always good and solid.

Stacia R.

Yelp
we the food and the bread, but our dessert came raw. half of the cream puff was served raw. the ice cream was delicious, but ruined by the raw dough.

Dano R.

Yelp
The food is very consistent here. From the outstanding pizza, their signature bread or the Parmesan encrusted White Fish, you won't get a bad meal here. On a busy Saturday night you may have to wait a few minutes (with a reservation) but grab a glass of vino or a draft beer at the bar and enjoy one of the vintage restaurants in Rochester. The waitstaff is well trained and usually cheerful.

David M.

Yelp
We ordered the complete turkey meal from here, including pumpkin pies. Everything was delicious! It made for a wonderful Thanksgiving...

Sara Annela T.

Yelp
UNDERWHELMED. I was expecting so much better of an experience! It was jam-packed like a can of sardines so the atmosphere doesn't lie. We had a larger bachelorette party of 16 and of course, obviously had reservations on a Friday night. 6:30 pm. Arrived 15 minutes early and they had NO CLUE about this. Then the bride-to-be and MOH arrived--nothing. Slowly the rest of the party started arriving and it got to a point where we were a hazard standing by the door where the waiters and waitresses were trying to carry trays of food around us ...30 MINUTES LATER... they started clearing space for us. While 16 of us were standing around being in the way, we were able to finally make our single-file soldier-line to the table after 45 minutes. They have a much younger staff so maybe pin it on inexperience? Anyways, on to dinner and other details. Our waiter saved the day. Brian was a rockstar knowing the menu and serving us all with patience and a friendly face. Took a great photo of all of us too! There are crayons for kids (or childish adults like myself!) to draw on the paper table coverings. The decor has a very classy pub vibe. LOVE that it's a family-owned establishment. Parking was easy since there is a structure a block away. The food, however, eh. I had the seafood gumbo soup and perch dinner. Good but not worth the price. Other gals at the table ordered the chicken tortellini pasta that seemed like the crowd-pleaser. The bread was good too. Overall OK experience after we actually got a table but NEVER come here with a large party (more than 6). I wouldn't be opposed to trying their crab cakes, pasta dishes, or pizzas in the future but certainly not seeking my next visit either.

Denise W.

Yelp
Good food, good service, lunch menu has good prices. Ample parking in the back during off peak hours.

Billy J.

Yelp
Everything was great accept for one thing: The Siesta Key Sauce is not worth the $9 for adding to the salmon entree. It advertises as having lobster in it, but there was no lobster at all - the sauce fell short no thanks to the cooks who neglecting adding the most important ingredient: Lobster. Skip the Siesta Key Sauce!

Kara L.

Yelp
Excellent service and dinner last night. Our server was Ryan and he was amazing! Best server we've ever had there! He was attentive, friendly and helpful with our drink and menu options. I had the blackened Norwegian salmon and it was delicious! Cooked perfectly! Highly recommend!

Jason P.

Yelp
OG K and M spot. I like drawing on the tables. Artwork from many of Rochesters finest painters don the walls. My favorite is "Blue Steel", on original piece by Darla D'Feloni. It has a happy yet sad quality. Very Modern watercolor meets Manet's renaissance. Another superb piece is "Daytime Shade on the Rhine" by Trei Giroud. This one is more Basquait then Picasso. I want to really thank K and M for supporting the arts and avoiding lame restaurant wall decor, you guys rock.

Michelle S.

Yelp
I love this place! The food is always great and the atmosphere is as well. Highly recommend!

Shivani A.

Yelp
Great place for dinner! We tried the maple glazed salmon off of the 'chef's special' menu and it was absolutely delicious! Our service was pretty fast given we went during peak dinner time on the weekend and everyone was very friendly. The wait was close to 45 min for 2 and estimated at 1.5hrs for 4 so I would highly recommend a reservation!

Dee B.

Yelp
Best seafood pan roast around. Always excellent service. Steaks cooked here are the only ones my husband will eat Eat here you won't be disappointed.

Jessicah H.

Yelp
Breadsticks - bomb. So delicious. Everything was great until I was eating my birthday sundae and a cockroach crawled next to me on the bar. I was totally freaked out, but thought it was a one-time thing. When I was leaving, I used the bathroom, and saw ANOTHER ONE in the bathroom stall. Horrified.

Donald L.

Yelp
Made reservations a week in advance, I hate waiting for a table, we were promptly seated, place was busy. Our server Joe was soon over to great us and take our drink orders. Plus, the bread basket a simple loaf to tear apart in the bag, delicious. Our meals consisted of Twin Filets Marsalas and Seafood Panroast. Don't forgot the Chowder Fish soup, excellent. The meal was excellent as well as our server. Prices were right in line with our expectations too.

JoAnn M.

Yelp
My entree was good but other members in our party of 10 had excellent dinners. It is a very large noisy restaurant and tables are very close together. Sometimes difficult to carry on a conversation. Service was great.

Kaitlyn R.

Yelp
Ambiance - yeah sure, food - fire, service - eh. My work team and I came in for dinner so it may have been a bit overwhelming for the waiter, he did a good job but timing and manors were a little off putting. Everyone enjoyed their food [I had the autumn grilled salmon which was DELECTABLE, the combination of the vegetables, gnocchi and salmon was PERFECT] and drinks went down smooth as always. I would recommend this place for the food and vibes - hate to take point off for service because you never know if someone is having a bad day but you gotta do what you gotta do. Tad pricy but the food is 100% worth it!! Cheers!! :-)

Justin W.

Yelp
I came into this restaurant yesterday for a late lunch, never having stepped foot in the establishment beforehand. My first impression of the restaurant upon coming through the door was, "wow, this place is amazing." I was greeted and seated immediately by an awesome worker, I didn't catch their name and I wish I did, I was treated very well with the most upbeat energy. Loved that! My sever was absolutely amazing, gave us ample time to place our orders, treated us with the most kindness I've had in a very long time. A little tidbit, she checked in with us periodically to see if we were enjoying our food and if we were in need of anything else. She was amazing and I appreciate her awesome effort! The food was very well made. From the clam chowder we had, down to the tortellini and Maryland chicken. It was absolutely amazing, I felt a huge amount of happiness, comfort and joy coming in yesterday. I will definitely be coming back to enjoy more of the great atmosphere and top notch food! Thank you to all the workers that day, everyone deserves props for what they did not only for us, but the other customers as well! You all are rockstars and I hope everyone else appreciates your hard work as much as I do! Thank you so so much!

K. S.

Yelp
Kruse & Muer never, ever disappoint. Made a reservation for my Fiance and I for our 2 year anniversary- and the whole staff made us feel like royalty. From the exceptional service to the table side conversations with staff, Kruse & Muer know how to entertain and serve. Will be back asap, you already know.

Anthony C.

Yelp
Pasta was Al dente and so was the spinach, bartenders seemed busier talking to each other rather than waiting on customers... spent the first the first 20 minutes at the bar before we were asked what we wanted

Susan M.

Yelp
Waited 30 minutes for someone to greet us and give us water. I have allergies and could only get the house salad with broiled chicken. It was supposed to be an entree size. It barely filled the plate and basically just lettuce. When I asked for more fruit and vegetables I was made to feel like I was an inconvenience by the manager. The waitress Abby was great.

LaTina J.

Yelp
The food was great! I can't wait to go again. Everything was delicious. The servers recommendations were spot on

Owl E.

Yelp
Noisy, popular spot for a fish restaurant, chicken was the ca orite of all 3. Waiter, Jon, very nice

Tony M.

Yelp
We went for a family dinner to celebrate a birthday and Father's Day. Service was on-point as always, and that bread is the highlight of any visit. They have gazpacho for the summer, and it's perhaps the best I've ever had. The perch is also great, and was my choice. I really appreciate that they have a nice kid's menu with a reasonable price and really nice portion size. Take a look at the menu before you go - they have a good selection of dishes, but obviously things tilt a bit to the seafood side (though they do have salads, steaks and pasta). They will also work with you on substitutions and deletions if there's something you don't like. It's a little noisy in spots, but you can ask to sit up front if you want some separation from the crowds. Keep that bread coming!

Mary S.

Yelp
sorry-ass waiter could not bother to bring us a menu!! xx completely ignorant of menu. after many years we will never never return ever .... fish tacos god awful .. what i ordered was not what this idiot delivered!... horrible meal, horrible apathetic waiter. a dog would do a better job! friday 1:00pm, back room.

Judith B.

Yelp
Great food and reasonable prices. It was my first time there. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and my blackberry bramble drink. The service was great too. I will definitely go back.

Mandy A.

Yelp
Friendly staff, the inside was very nice and lively. The waiter made great food recommendations. They offer fresh warm Bread and butter right when you are seated . I got the clam chowder it was awesome , as well as the loaded wedge salad. We also ordered the chicken Marsala and the kids butter noodles . The kids butter noodles were dry so my kids had to add their own butter, the kids menu is very basic and they could definitely spruce it up. The cocktails were made well .

Keith J.

Yelp
Had my parents 60th anniversary dinner there. (17 people) in our party and I can tell you that the event could not have gone better!!...We had Josh as our server and the dude crushed it!!!! The food was great & they got to it to us quickly, we even had a cake that we brought in and they cut it as well as served it for us Just in case I forgot to mention JOSH was awesome...we'll be back!!!!

Colleen D.

Yelp
RE: The Village location - New Manager needs training in customer service. Had to call corporate about his disposition and how he treated me when I made a complaint. Corporate did return call and said they will work with him which was one positive. But overall the whole experience was awful and wont be a patron of this location again. So many restaurants out there no need to go to places that dont value repeat customers.

sally C.

Yelp
Has gone down hill: perch frozen not fresh. Server never asked if we wanted drinks other than water, never asked if we wanted dessert, never came back to see if meals were ok. Everything a la cart: pasta doesn't come with salad. Fish comes with small side of rice, no veg. Even worse experience 2 weeks ago at chop house.

Mj J.

Yelp
This is a Rochester staple. My friend introduced me to this spot a few years ago and we seem to always make a stop at Kruse & Muer for a dink and of course, his favorite and now mine, the bread and sauce. Trust me, if you order nothing else...the bread and vodka sauce is a must have in my opinion. We've enjoyed a few of the entrees, the tortellini is one of my favorites. We usually head to the bar, but have also enjoyed relaxing at the cozy tables. The atmosphere is sophisticated and it's a great spot to enjoy a romantic dinner. I just love everything about Kruse & Muer!

Billy L.

Yelp
I've eaten here several times and the food is expensive but the quality is top notch. I called the day before to get a reservation at 5:15 and they told me they could only take the reservation at 5 PM which worked out fine with me. The restaurant was basically empty the entire time we were there so I'm not quite sure why they couldn't do a 5:15 unless they only do reservations on the half hour. Our waitress was right on top of things and the food came out fairly quickly. When you first sit down they give you a thin loaf of bread that is really delicious and I believe you can get all that you want to eat. I ordered the chargrilled salmon dinner and it came with rice and vegetables and the salmon was delicious. My friend got the perch dinner and it came with mashed potatoes. The dinners do not come with soup or salad but the quantity within the dinner was just right. We did not have any leftovers to bring home

Margaret A.

Yelp
Selective menu but I wasn't disappointed in my choice. Good service, pleasing atmosphere. We'll go again.

S A.

Yelp
Bread, house salad, lobster & shrimp fettuccine, chicken tortellini, Rocky's pizza and panroasts are my go to. Delicious!
