Yelp
4 stars for amazing tea selection, tea related gifts, and tea service. Very authentic. The staff here really know their teas, no matter what kind.
This tea shop feels like a world away from the bustling Pearl street out front. You first walk in to the tea shop, with hundreds of choices of tea of all types. Then you get to the counter where you can buy drinks to go or pay for your new tea. Then onto the tea pots and cups and accessories. Then at the back there is a divider and several tables with a water fountain where you can have prepared tea and a few snacks. By the time you are in the back everything is peaceful and quiet. Many tourists peruse the shop, but not many sit back here.
Three of the tables in the back are low to the ground and you sit on small pillows around them. They ask that you take your shoes off before stepping up to these. They also have a couple of regular height tables if you'd prefer.
The shining moment for this shop is in the selection and quality of their loose leaf teas. They seriously have a ton. They have black, green, puerh, white, blends, tisanes, red, everything! They also offer bubble tea if you are interested. Every loose leaf tea I have purchased from here has made me very happy. They have pure and authentic flavor and subtle differences among each. This is high quality tea and does carry the high price accordingly.
Most of the staff I have talked to are well informed on the different teas they offer and truly enjoy talking with you about them. Every now and then there is a new person that is not quite as prepared but it is rare. If you are curious about something, ask. If you want to try something, ask. These guys know their stuff.
Tea service in the back can be in many different forms. Just a pot of tea, specially prepared, even gong fu style. Whatever you are in the mood for. They have also have a small selection of snacks to accompany your tea. My favorite are the mochi. These are the traditional ones not the ice cream filled ones. One is green tea paste and the other is red bean paste.
I will say that it is sometimes confusing if you want to have tea at the shop. They ask that you come to the counter to get a menu and not to just sit down. Definitely heed this; if you just sit down they will not come over to you. Even when you do get a menu it will sometimes take them a long time to come get your order. This place is not quick. It is meant to be a place to relax, not a drive through.
If you have had a stressful week, stop by Ku Cha for a few hours and just be. Listen to the fountain, sip some tea, munch on some mochi. Sounds so nice I may just join you.
Final note: I am not sure where Ku Cha comes from, but it sounds Klingon to me.
