"With walls clad in rough-hewn wood planks and bamboo, Kubo, in a Bethany shopping center, has a modern aesthetic while keeping the menu classic. Kubo sells staples like lumpiang sariwa and lechon kawali, as well as a number of sweets like buko salad, the Pinoy answer to ambrosia, and sapin-sapin in all of its colorful layered glory. Kubo is open for takeout, delivery, and has outdoor seating." - Krista Garcia, Eater Staff

Yelp
If you like Filipino food, Kubo in Bethany is serving up the best around Portland. In Tagolog, Kubo means hut, and the small inside is decorated to reflect that with two tables. I've been twice and sat outside both times (there's a great toy store across the street!). Rex, the owner, is very welcoming and hospitable, and everything is made to order and worth the wait. A friend who's family is from the Philippines and returns regularly took me and John, and ordered a feast both times: Halo-halo, kare-kare, lechon kawali, pork adobo, lumpia, pancit palabok, and flan. They've all been delicious, but my favorite is the inihaw na liempo, a grilled pork belly. For those preferring vegetarian and vegan options, they serve up several, including laing, or spicy taro leaves in coconut milk, and tofu sisig.

Yelp
This place is a small place with 2 tables with 4 chairs each. You're immediately greeted by the owner who is friendly and helpful. It's great to cause there are pictures of the food for guests who come in and are enjoying Filipino cuisine for the first time. Their food is delicious and has the home cooked style . I ordered the pork adobo plate and the hubs ordered the Shanghai lumpia plate w/ dipping sauce and atchara salad. both plates comes with generous portions of rice! Their atchara and lumpia dip are home made. This is DEFINITELY a keeper on our list of places to eat for great Filipino food when we're out this way!!

Yelp
Amazing food, real authentic style Philippine food. I'm over at the U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers in the City of Portland the headquarters and I'm in training's over there for a whole week. Yeah I'll come by again. Yeah there's other Filipino place but they serve fusion type and not so traditional Pinoy food. Services was very very, very good . Debbie is very nice but quaint. There's two tables that sits eight. Besto to do a takeout. They have tables outside also if you wish to dine in. Pam sit was very delicious and very authentic just like my grandmother would cook in Pampanga Philippines. Pork belly Inihaw was very delicious and very authentic just like my grandmother would cook in Pampanga Philippines. Highly highly highly recommend to eat or even have take . This place is closed on Tuesday though .

Yelp
The owner was so kind, patient and explained every dish without hesitation. He went in to detail about every dish even informing us of what wasn't available and why. I didn't take pictures of everyone's dishes cause everyone was starving. The inside searing area was small, 2 tables 4 stools each. But there was also outdoor seating. We went on a cold and rainy day so outside was not an option for us. Everyone in our group loved what they ordered. We were about 8 of us.

Yelp
This place is a Gem Food is really good, Place is really clean, Owner is so friendly. It's a must try if you're in portland. Will definitely go back to this place.

Yelp
It was my first time to eat at Kubo on 28 September 2024. We had sisig, laing, kare-kare, palabok, etc. I had nothing but praise because the food was awesomely delicious. We will definitely keep coming back to try the other items on the menu! Keep it up!!!!

Andrew C.

Yelp
Recommend entirely. Rex took the time to explain and dissect every one of the dishes Kubo serves. I'm getting the Pork Sisig at medium heat and am scared of how spicy it is going to be. Delicious? I have no doubt in my mind it will be. Enjoy a Calamansi juice drink while you're here, too. Will return.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've had Filipino food this good from a restaurant! For context -- my family and I are from Eugene, but my mom grew up in the Philippines and is a chef, and she LOVED the food (which is rare). Immediately walking in, we were welcomed by the friendly man behind the counter, and the delicious smells coming from the kitchen behind him reminded us of our own home cooking. The space is small, offering just 2 tables inside the building, but there is plenty of seating outside within the plaza. We were sure to order a lot because we wanted to try everything. The adobo was spot on -- perfectly seasoned and great with the pancit. I wanted to try the vegan option as well, which had surprisingly great flavor, though the texture was a tad underwhelming to me. The vegetable egg roll and lumpia was delicious. The lechon was crispy and great dipped in vinegar. We left with full tummies and a new must-visit lunch spot when we come back to Portland!

Yelp
I'm from Los Angeles, and I feel I have had access to great Filipino food and was so stoked to find Kubo! Rex provides delicious traditional Filipino food and even takes the time to explain dishes to people who are not familiar with our foods. This place it's a MUST go!

Avid C.

Yelp
Everything there reminds me of my childhood. The food is so authentic! Also, don't miss out on the halo halo!!! Service is always so impeccable! Love being treated like family here.

Michelle G.

Yelp
Ordered the BBQ Chicken plate and it was delicious! The plate came with two chicken skewers, rice & lumpia. The sweet sauce on the side was also delicious. Price point was pretty good for the amount of food given.

Ryan L.

Yelp
We got a couple of dishes to go. The food came out in a timely manner. But the dishes were not edible. They were very soggy and very salty. Growing up eating this food. I would say this ain't the place. Waste of time and money. There are better food trucks out there.

Brad M.

Yelp
The food is extremely delicious and traditional flavors! Rex provides a traditional menu to bring the best flavors and focuses on high quality food and top notch customer service! I ordered the Chicken Pancit and got to try the Dinuguan and it's all so flavorful! Stop in and give Rex an opportunity to give you a great experience . Thanks again Rex for the awesome lunch.

Yelp
Wow.. really loving seeing more Filipino restaurants in the area! Filipino food is not quite there with other asian cuisines so I am glad Kubo is here showing everyone how good it can be! Kubo in tagalog means hut so the inside decor really reflects that. It's definitely a small space but they have two tables that can probably seat up to 2-6 people comfortably inside. They also seems to have space outdoors but when we came we saw most people just taking it to go. As you enter you are greeted by staff and they are super up front if they are working on something in the back or if there might be some additional time to your order as they work through it. They seem like a small team so loved the heads up. Don't be fooled like us and think only the food shown on their digital menu is what they serve. We made the mistake and only ordered from the screen but all phots on their walls are also items you can order. Will definitely need to get the sisig next time! We ordered the pancit and the lechon kawali and we were full coming out of there! The lechon kawali had a great crunch and love how they have a pickled side like atchara and sauce to dip it in. Gives you a nice vinegary and savory balance to the saltiness of the pork. The pancit portion size was huge as well and we could have saved half but why haha. Before we ended our meal they also gave us some macaron samples they were trying which was so nice. They are also trying out new items like tofu sisig for other folks.

Yelp
As usual the place is very tidy. Food smells good and taste better than ever . Service was explicitly great. I recommend this place worth a visit. This I my fav in portland

Yelp
Not having much Phillipino food options available in the area, we have been thinking about coming to this place for a while and we really glad that we did! The shop has couple small tables inside, think of it more as a Cafe setting, along with some standing tables outside. The owner is super passionate about his food, explaining in details on the origins, how he came up with some of the home recipes, difference in types of soy sauce or vinegar that they use, different specials... Etc. Super friendly and even gave our kiddos some cute quality stickers. The food, wow, pairs so well with the sauces that comes with the dish. Lechon was crispy and done well, he provided the oragon sauce that is a tribute to the region his dad grew up, added a whole different taste to the lechon, and the side salad/radish is also very tastefully prepared, giving balance to the meat. Pancit was solid, a bit blend but this is where the sauces come in and made it great. BBQ chicken is on the sweeter side which the kiddos loved, we added the spiced vinegar to change the flavor a bit, the lumpia is crispy and delicious. Lastly the pinoy style spaghetti, tastes like chili (hotdog and salami) with spaghetti and cheese, which was a big hit with the kiddos. We had no room for dessert, we'll need to try the halo halo and flan next time along with other dishes we would love to try (sigsig pork), can't wait to return!

Yelp
First of all, best Filipino food in town. I've had Filipino food in Manila, San Francisco, and Seattle. I know what good Filipino food is. Rex, the owner is very hospitable and passionate about food. My favorites here are lechon, pork sisig, kare kare, and cassava cake. You can tell the food is made with love, passion, and care. It's a must try for people who love Filipino food, or have never tried it.

JP G.

Yelp
Being a recent transplant, I've been looking for a really good Filipino eatery. I can tell you, this is the place to go! The food is traditional, made to order, and super sarap (delicious)! As an extra, the owner - Kuya Rex - is awesome and personable! You can tell that he and his family truly love their business and their patrons! Thank you guys for bringing a piece of the Philippines to the PNW!

Brandilyn T.

Yelp
Cute lil restaurant, I love the decor! This place only has two indoor tables but there are outdoor seating that are shared with other businesses. I ordered the lumpiang shanghai plate and my bf got the lechon kawali plate. I love the sauce that comes with the lumpia! I don't know if it's homemade or not, but it's not too sweet and it went well with the dish. I also love that they included a side of pickled veggies in your meal for balance. If you dine in, there are sauces in front of you: shoyu, patis, and spiced vinegar. I used the vinegar but it was not spiced at all, I wished there were more cili put into it like how it traditionally is. A lady took our order and she was really nice! She grabbed our drinks for us as well although we were sitting right next to the fridge. I would come back and try other dishes as well!

Yelp
Kubo is your AUTHENTIC FILIPINO RESTAURANT. They serve quality food that reminds you of childhood. My husband and I were very satisfied with the food, service, and the ambiance. We ordered lechon kawali, sinigang, and halo-halo. Mind you the first bite feels like home. The owner was also very kind. You should try this as they offer a wide selection of Filipino food.

Natasha L.

Yelp
Very cute little spot. My kids and I really loved the Filipino spaghetti. Wasn't too sweet or too savory. My son gave it a thumbs up! We also got Sig sig, which a lot of restaurants and carts don't offer. I feel like this place is comfort food. The service was very good and the owner who helped us was very nice. He was curious how far we traveled to eat there. 120 minutes! It was worth it. Will go back!

Taylor A.

Yelp
Best Filipino food I've had from a Filipino restaurant, hands down. Pancit tastes just like my Lola's and the lumpia with spicy vinegar and calamansi sauce was fantastic. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for good authentic Filipino food!

Lubu A.

Yelp
Consistency never failed! Well flavored food! We ordered our all time favorites... sisig, chicken inasal, lumpia... for our togo: diniguan, binagoongan, kare kare and their limited ginagaang tulingan! Very warm customer service! Clean and well maintained place.. what else can you ask for?

Yelp
Family-owned | Delicious | A PDX gem **Tip: make sure to order about 30-40 minutes before you really plan on eating because they need time to make your order. We drove from Wilsonville on a weekday, in traffic, to do takeout. Yes, that also means we sat in traffic heading home, which totaled to be an hour-long trip to enjoy this delicious Filipino food. WORTH IT. It's like you're eating in a family's kitchen. It tastes home-cooked and really makes me miss my grandmother's cooking. Since we live kinda far, we knew we had to place a big order so we could enjoy as much as we could. Ube Jam -- sweet and is so delicious. A must for ube lovers Pork BBQ - comes with rice and lumpia Caldereta - beef stew Pancit bihon - noodles with some veggies Lumpia - crispy and addicting If you love ube, please try their ube jam. I'm obsessed with their jam and couldn't put my fork down. My toddler loves ube anything too. The BBQ pork came on a skewer and had lots of fat, so I'm guessing it's pork belly. The flavor is SO good. Caldereta reminds me of how my grandmother used to make it. Pancit bihon is another great classic I grew up with. I like that it's not too salty. Lumpia!! If you're craving lumpia, do yourself a favor and order it here! Crispy bites and hard to stop eating these. It's not really a dine-in place. You can eat outside. I saw much more on their daily special menu when I arrived to pick up my order compared to what was on their website. It's good to know because they offer various dishes! I'm quite thankful this place exists. We will be coming back!

Chris C.

Yelp
Nothing will ever compare to mama's cooking (all Filipino's know this) but, this place hit. Being a flight away from home, I was able to satisfy the craving at Kubo Small, family-owned spot - good comforting food. Trinkets from the Philippines decorate the walls - conversations in tagalog overheard from the kitchen. Feels like home (:

Cindel F.

Yelp
The only Filipino restaurant in the Bethany area. I love their kare-kare, beef sinigang, sumpia, and Filipino spaghetti, but I wish they served seafood like shrimp ukoy, bangus, daing, or fried pompano. The service is great and the place is tiny but cute.

Regina B.

Yelp
The Adobe was delightful. We are always on the hunt for a perfectly spiced dish and this was it!!! My husband and I were in the Philippines 10 years ago and I feel like this is the first time I had an adobo that actually matched the taste we've been looking for. Thank you ! My taste buds are grateful.

Will B.

Yelp
This place is my favorite Filipino restaurant in the Portland metro area so far. They dont sell fusion, they dont try to make it super fancy, and I feel like they dont compromise to make the dishes more palatable to non-Filipinos like so many other Filipino restaurants in the area do. Its good food that tastes like what I remember eating at family parties as a kid. The restaurant itself is pretty small, with just two tables for dine in. I got the Bikol Express and Pancit Palabok when I went and they were both really solid dishes. Service was also good! Im definitely coming back again. Another bonus is that theres a lot of outdoor seating options in the surrounding plaza if you want to enjoy the weather or if you have a dog with you.

Jina H.

Yelp
What a cozy spot that has great food and service! Seating inside is tight and plenty of seating outside, behind the building has a lot more. My friend and I were welcomed by the employee, who was helpful in giving recommendations and friendly too. Food came out faster than anticipated as it was lunch rush. Ordered lechon plate and pork belly inihaw. My friend likes the lechon, the skin had good crunch and my pork belly inihaw was really good. The flame broiled pork belly had a good tangy marinade which went well with the rice. The pickled papaya (atchara) was good too, next time will ask for more. You can see, smell, and taste the food that this restaurant serves, they take pride in their work!

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Delicious options & full of flavor! I tried chicken adobo with rice & pancit, both were very tasty and filling. The restaurant is small with limited seating but personally, I usually do take out so it worked fine for me. I'll definitely return to try other dishes as well!

Abby P.

Yelp
GOOD Filipino cuisine in Portland is so difficult to come by, but believe me (as a Filipina myself) when I say that Kubo does it RIGHT!! Food tastes just like how my family makes it back home. They have all your major dishes - including sisig!! - and pricing is very reasonable! It's Filipino comfort meals at its finest I only wish the location itself was bigger to accommodate for more indoor eating (it's really more of a take-out kind of place). But aside from that, the food is perfect.

Winnie C.

Yelp
I tried Filipino food for the very first time. I ordered Chicken Adobo with rice and lumping. The service was SUPER AMAZING, friendly and just lovely. Not a great place for dining but I was lucky to see one of the two tables was available when I visited. Highly recommend, support local small businesses.

Ria E.

Yelp
Friends and I drove 45 mins just to check this restaurant. service is 10/10. price is very reasonable ( affordable ) . you really feel the hospitality of Filipino when coming to a restaurant like this. Kudos to the cook ‍ the Ube dessert is a must try. we came out happy and with full belly.

Kailin Z.

Yelp
We ordered 3 dishes. 1, Chicken bites was good, crispy and tasty. I liked their spicy sauce too. 2, Pork belly was ok. 3, Savory pork blood stew was the worst pork I have ever had , I thought it was pork blood cubes like we used in the hotpot, but its not. It's pork meat in blood sauce, it smelled stinky and tasted terrible.

Caleb T.

Yelp
Best filipino food in town... Their owner is very helpful and passionate about what he does, and it comes through in his service and cooking.

Jerome C.

Yelp
Amazing and AUTHENTIC Filipino food. After a year searching, we finally found a place that is true to the culture and source of Filipino cuisine. Kubo highlights varying regional dishes, and puts so much care and thought into each offering. The owner was so gracious and enthusiastic talking to us regarding the background of each dish. We will certainly be back and plan to be regulars!

Karelia H.

Yelp
The food was excellent, with fantastic flavors and very attentive service. We enjoyed this place and will come back. The ambiance was very relaxed and cute. More suitable for smaller groups. Small location but worth the trip!

Candy K.

Yelp
Delicious !!! We got the pancit and bbq chicken. I am bummed we forgot to order some lumpia but definitely coming back to try more. My husband is Filipino and since we moved to Oregon over a year ago, he's missed Filipino food so badly. So now we have a place we can go get a little piece of home. My husband grabbed the takeout but he said the staff was extremely friendly and also mentioned their menu inside is more updated than on their website. 10/10, we will be coming back for sure.

Guy S.

Yelp
I and my wife went through some horrible Portland traffic to get to this place. After fighting all the traffic we found that this place was worth it. My wife had the chicken adobo and the pansit. I had the chicken adobo and the lumpia appetizer A little background of myself. I served in the US Navy and have been to the Philippines. I assure you that this place makes Lumpia right. It was an awesome experience. Both the food and the service was great. We will be back.

Zhelle H.

Yelp
a little cozy filipino restaurant here at Portland. I didn't expect I could find a homemade filipino food around the area and didn't disappoint. The Owner/Manager was very accommodating and gave us so much suggestion.

Janine P.

Yelp
I wish this place had a bigger dining area because I'm pretty sure a lot more people would eat here because the food is good and the people who work here are attentive to their customers. But nonetheless, the food was pretty good and serving size for the price is reasonable.

Selectah S.

Yelp
Rex and his team there are excellent in there customer service and in the Quality of their food. Not a ton of Filipino food here in Portland so to have a spot really close to my house that absolutely hits, it's a 5 star for sure. They catered some dishes for my Baby shower party and everyone was really loving their Caldereta, Chicken and Pork Adobo (I had to get both), and Pancit. My guests were extremely satisfied with the food and I couldn't be more thankful to have great Filipino food in the area. Best part is that Their catering prices are really really fair! Will definitely be catering from them for future events. My grandma would have been impressed for sure. -Mike Abang

Yelp
Delicious food, the flavors were truly amazing! The owner helped us to decide what we wanted to try by asking us what types of food we liked and found comparable flavors that he said we might enjoy! The restaurant itself was small but very well decorated and cozy. The rustic decor and bamboo wall divider set a very tropical feel, yet made it seem more inviting! I look forward to trying some of the meat dishes next time, as we were having to go all vegetarian this time due to my sister in laws dietary needs. In addition, we also got to try the desserts, including the Ube jam, the Sapin Sapin and the cassava cake, all which were terrific, not too sweet, but a distinct flavor of vanilla rum in the Sapin, which was a sticky rice pudding... the Ube jam I could see spreading that on ice cream, toast or just about anything! Soo much flavor! I'll definitely be back!

Anthony C.

Yelp
This is a Lumpia Sariwa and it's all veg in a rice wrap, but delicious. My first time trying Filipino food. If you're Filipino and live in the area, how close is it to authentic? It's located right in the outdoor mall area, so parking is a no problemo. I'd return again and try something else, but I was definitely curious about the desserts they featured in their mini cooler! I've only eaten puto with the coconut sauce before and that is delicious too.

Christian L.

Yelp
Kubo is a small and cozy experience that pairs exactly with it's intention of home-cooked style meals. The owner of the establishment loves to share their story along with sharing philosophy behind why they cook what they do. If you care about paying for food that gives you a feeling of story along with taste, this is a hidden gem you can't pass up.

Anne M.

Yelp
In search of finding good Filipino restaurants in Oregon, I was going to give up until I ate here at Kubo. Originally I had planned to go to a different Filipino restaurant but to my luck they were closed and I ended going to Kubo. Small literally restaurant with HUGE flavors that remind me of home. I ordered the Lechon kawali, pork sisig with egg, and a side of sinigang broth. The place was decorated with banana leaves and bamboos, and reminded me so much of the Philippines. The ambiance was so homey that it was instagram worthy. The FOOD- was AMAZING. The sinigang had depths of rich beef flavor, sour as I liked, huge tamarind flavors and crunchy vegetables such as taro root, string beans, okra and tomato. It was hot and comforting. The Lechon was crunchy, it was okay but the highlight and it came with a home made liver mantomas. The liver was light and sweet. It also came with a side of achata, which was a pickled papaya carrots and onions. My second favorite after the sinigang broth was the pork sisig. It was crunchy because they used the Lechon kawali as their base, chilli, onion, and came out on a sizzling plate with a side of housemade CHILLI garlic vinegar and the owner also gave me a calamansi vinegar and fish sauce sauce as well. IT PAIRED GREAT with the sisig, and I poured it all over my rice. It was a good spice, sweetness and sourness to everything. Nothing was too oily or fatty. The service as well was great- the owner felt personable and really wanted to get to know his customers. You can tell the owner had passion for not only Filipino food but for his culture. A small gem hidden in the suburbs. Will come again! If you want AUTHENTIC FLAVORFUL Filipino food! Try them out.

Fran P.

Yelp
Excellent food and amazing service. Finally a good filipino food in portland area. Would highly recommend this restaurant for good authentic food

Elle S.

Yelp
Food there very authentic, super tasty, and the service was great, he was so kind and funny, it's a small little place, but it feels nice to help a local family run business.

Rae S.

Yelp
New family owned Filipino restaurant in Bethany (on west side of Portland). Took over the old Chicken Adobo location. Tried it because it's important to support local Fil-Am businesses. But please note this is NOT fast food. So recommend calling your order ahead of time or wait in your car. My hubby and I chose to wait outside. Waited 30 minutes but we ordered at least 5 different dishes. There are heat lamps outside the door but make sure to turn the timer on. Food was all yummy, but need to try the rest with next visit and hopefully they have buko salad next time.
