"Kukai serves its Japanese comfort classics out of a modified shipping container kitchen. While onigiri was originally the focal point, the menu has since evolved to offer a selection of rice bowls, ramen, and sushi rolls. Diners can enjoy their meals in the courtyard with libations from Westbound next door." - Jackie Tran

My favorite place in Tuscon! Coming from NY, I was thrilled to find a sushi spot that I come to every week. The food is incredible every time I go- I get Mt Fugi Don, the dumplings and the pork ramen which is by far the best I have ever had hands down (especially the ramen). My boyfriend gets the spicy crunch roll which he loves as well. We met the owner a couple of times and he is very welcoming. I couldn’t recommend this place enough, truly a gem.

some of the best ramen in tucson, amazing onigiri as well! sushi wasn’t my favorite in town but wasn’t bad. can get very busy in evenings, esp friday/saturday night but worth it. outdoor plaza with tons of other shops/cafes/restaurants! very cool vibe

Kukai was absolutely delicious!! I had the sushi with salmon and eel sauce on top with ramen and my friend had the katsu chicken curry. The sushi was soooo good and the salmon was fresh, the broth for the ramen was top notch! Seriously, on of the best I have had. Both of us really enjoyed our meals!

I absolutely love this place I’ve been coming here a lot for a reasonably priced meal that always fills me up 😍 The food always is consistently delicious my favorites are the Miso soup and the Pork Belly Onigiri 10/10 recommend! It’s also in a very cute shopping area I recommend walking around after your meal :)

I love the complex, with cute boutiques, fire pits and a beer bar. Got karage and meitaigo ramen from Kukai, the fried chicken are a bit too small for me. The ramen is great tho :) Its also amazing that you can eat the ramen at the beer bar near the fireplace !

Pretty cute area, loved our tuna sushi bowls! Perfect ratio of ingredients and lots of tuna. We found seating pretty easily. Would definitely try the ramen sometime.

Not being from AZ, I've never seen the shipping container layout before. It's pretty cool. I had the spicy miso with extra spice. I barely could feel the heat. I am a heat person though. Other than that, the soup was excellent.
