Kukar's House Of Pizza

Went here on a Saturday at 11am and it was dead. The parking lot was empty. I told the host we would have a party of less than 20 people. They made it a big deal and wanted to know the exact amount of people and that we needed to sign a contract. She was so rude and was refusing our service. Once everyone showed up, there was 18 people and she still hesitated, but sat us down. The whole two hours we were there, only one table got used by other customers. I loved the decor and how they had old stuff. The pizza was ok, not something to brag about. After the horrible service and making us wait, I will not come back on my own terms.

My dad and I came here August15 because I’m in town for San Jose for the convention here and And I will tell you, my dad and I we waited about 30 minutes before we finally got our pizza. It was really good but in my honest opinion it needed to be cut better but it was good and I even came back last night the 16th for dinner and I got spaghetti, some bread and some something else I can’t remember but that was really good except for the meatballs in the spaghetti. It was a little dry inside. I had to dip it in my pasta sauce to eat it if I didn’t have the pasta sauce, I would not have eaten the meatballs Yesterday, while I was waiting to order, I saw one of the staff members a girl with long hair. It was dark but she was wearing a gray sweatshirt and this was around 730 almost 8 o’clock at night she came she was in the lobby picking up tables and throwing it away in the garbage can well she dragged recycling bin back to the counter after her fingers were all over it, and she took care of the dirty dishes. Instead of washing her hands, she went right back to serving food, and not even acknowledging that I was in the standing there, watching what even gross me out after she came back after handling on fresh food she went back to throw something away and touched the Recycling garbage can and I thought that was really nasty and I would would’ve walked out but I was really hungry. I’m only back again this time because my hotel so slow service tonight for dinner that I forgot to give this place on the chance and I’m gonna be honest it’s a lot quieter and nicer tonight last two nights. I’m sorry for the low stars, but that was because for the food service last night but also the nuthouse of what is is. on another note, when I use the bathroom here yesterday last night, it was really nice and clean but this time I walked in and my nose wanted to fall off it smells there’s water all over the sink and the garbage can is overflowing with paper towels Water on the counter just sitting there there’s no Constant checking the bathrooms of the staff on shift. They had noticed they would’ve noticed that the garbage cans are overflowing water on the calendar in a few drops of water on the floor. If the manager or the owner of this business cares about this place which they do I would recommend that they reinforce their food handler safety because when I saw that lady touched the garbage can then touched the fresh food using the the dirty dishes hands . I honestly wanted to walk out, but I didn’t because I was so hungry if the manager or the owner wants to reach me feel free to send me a message through this review. Even though the review was a clean restrooms, the restrooms are not clean. They need to be maintained better service to better, and the signs outside the building aren’t even on there needs to be more lights outside the building. OK I’m going back and I’ve changed it for the third time after just seeing two of the staff members on tonight which is August 17 drag a recycling garbage can and an actual garbage can back then they let go of the cans and they go over behind the counter and they use hand sanitizer and that is their way of washing their hands instead of actually going behind the counter, going to the actual sink and using water and soap that is disgusting and you know for a cheeseburger you know I was expecting an actual cheeseburger round burger bun instead, I get a half burnt sandwich, subway sandwich, burger with cheese, and a somewhat good looking patty and I have to make it myself I don’t want the manager or the owner to call me. I will just re-be reporting this to the food safety. This is not safety food. This is just laziness. If you guys are gonna serve hamburgers at least have a round hamburger bun not some Subway foot-long and bread.

Kukar's House of Pizza is a San Jose Institution that I used to frequent as a child growing up in this town. They have their own parking lot in downtown San Jose which is an anomaly in itself. I thought everything was okay. I personally haven't been here since the 80s and I would not rush back, but I wouldn't turn it away either.

Service seems pretty slow. I was a dine-in customer and waited about 40 minutes for my small pizza. The restaurant didn't seem super crowded when I went in, although it definitely wasn't empty either. When the pizza got there, it was hot, but the crust was just slightly overcooked and it could have used a little bit more cheese. All in all, not too bad, the location is great because it's walkable from downtown.

My favorite since I was a little girl. Watching my dad order and tell me all about the history of the place lit up my heart. He's gone now but every time I go in there I feel my dad and remember the stories. Things have changed in management but the pizza remains the same.....my favorite memory....I love and miss you daddy.....

No matter how good your pizza is if you have an unprofessional manager who is rude to the customers, your pizza and business are nothing. Worst customer service and it wasn’t the staff but the manager! George, if you care about your company and customers, you should really evaluate who you have managing your business. I am a regular customer and once I witnessed the manager Kori belittling a mom with 3 kids I had to step in and try to help. I tried to de-escalate the situation, but the manager was so irate she didn’t have any control over her tone and was extremely unprofessional. Kori continued to yell over me and the mother even though neither one of us were talking when she was speaking. I had to remind her I was trying to help so she didn’t need to yell at me. She insisted she was talking loudly because the mother was talking over her, but the mother was standing there stunned in silence. I reminded Kori that part of being a manager is to act professional and try to accommodate or even compromise with customers. From what I witnessed the problem was the manager sat the mother and her group at a table that was too small, so the mother moved to another table. Kori the manager told the mother she needs to move from the table because they have a strict sitting policy. Kori told the mother she needed to go back to the podium and wait until she could be assigned another table. Since it was not busy and there were no customers waiting to be seated, I suggested to Kori to let the mother know the assigned table so they could move to the new table. Kori refused the suggestion and insisted the mother, plus kids all go back to the podium and wait to be assigned a table. Kori insisted she would not help until they were all at the podium. The mother tried to talk with Kori and tried to explain that her 3-year-old son has cancer and just came out of the hospital, and she was trying not to move him too much. The poor little boy still had a tube connected on his face and I could see the mother’s pain and disbelieve of what was happening. Kori decided to make the comment “I have someone who has cancer so don’t go there!” and then decided she was going to refuse service to them. I felt so bad I apologized to the mother for how she was treated and offered them our pizza to take with them. I wanted to bring it to the community’s attention because customers shouldn’t be treated in a belittling and disrespectful manner, especially in front of their kids. Step it up George! Make sure you are hiring the staff you want representing your business.

Great pizza. One of my favorites going back to 1979. My father used to bring House Of Pizza on Fridays as a surprise for my siblings and I. Pizza flavor is exactly like I remembered.

The food is edible but it would have been nice to have parmesan cheese on my spaghetti or garlic on the garlic bread. Service was terrible. And for nearly $20 a plate I would have expected metal silverware or at least a knife with my plastic fork.

The best square pizza slices! Celebrated their 75th anniversary this weekend and was overwhelmed by the whole community who participated in the celebration! They had tables, bar, and patio fully packed! Our family's go to order is the 1950's confusion-their most popular! If you're not feeling pizza, they have a hearty salad, great sandwich options, and amazing spaghetti and ravioli too! Lots of parking in the private lot and a great collection of antiques and tchotchkes. I feel like I see something new every time I visit! A well loved establishment right here in San Jose, this place is worth the visit! At my last trip I met mama Dee! She has been coming to House of Pizza her whole life! (She made sure to share how she is only three years older than HOP-you look great Mama Dee) for the 75th celebration, she woke up at 4:30am drove from Monterey to bring pizza to her family in Sacramento! What a die hard HOP fan!

Lots of parking, a little tricky if your not paying attention, to the turn. Pretty cool the way they bag the pizza & the pricing for the food they offer, I think is worth it & not too bad, flavors are fresh & yummy, my complaint is why they have a One Time serving only @ the salad bar, small plate or large, but pack the heck out of it as much as you can pile/fit because you can't go back. Bartender super friendly & great customer service. They bring your food to the table BUT they did not bring us plates, cheese or peppers & I'm nit sure, if that's the usual service, because we had to go up to the counter & ask for these items. Apparently this place has been around for a very long time & if you're from SJ, you know about this place. A lot have changed, but if your feeling like pizza, drinks, Football, playing some video games & enjoying family & friends company, why not support the business? It's definitely big enough for your whole family.

Manager sucks and is very rude we spend alot of money there and she is unprofessional. Saying you can't have any parties there anymore. Bartender is rude too they need to really look into this. This happened multiple times to all my friends and family.

I have been coming for years. One of my favorite pizza places by far! But, the service can be hit or miss. Came before my play and there was only 1 bartender. No joke - I ordered my pizza as my sister went to the bar for our drinks. The pizza came out first!' The bartender was catering to a going away party and just about ignored everyone else. A gentleman next to us complained. She said she was making her way around. She completely ignored our corner & helped other people who walked up. We left the bar and went to eat our pizza & left. Too bad they did not have proper staffing. We were ready to relax & have drinks. Thet lost out on $$$

I don't understand the bad reviews about this place. I always find the staff friendly and kind. Perhaps you reap what you sow. We don't come here looking for gourmet food but they make solid kind of strange pizza combos and other Italian-ish fare. I'm a fan of the steak sandwich and meatball sandwich. Bartenders are always attentive and refills are quick. Food counter staff are friendly. Solid food, an institution. Support local and don't be a jerk to service workers.

I have not been to House of Pizza since it moved in the 80s! This place is a San Jose Institution and as a native San Josean I feel like everyone grew up going here eating the square pizzas. The fact that its downtown and has It's own free parking lot is an anomaly. The atmosphere has its own charm and the food is okay. It's not a place I would rush back to for any particular reason other than personal nostalgia.

One of our favorite places to have family birthdays. Really want to thank Patricia, she works the cash register and is always very welcoming and helpful.

This place just isn't the same anymore. On our last visit, we ordered the 1950's combo pizza and the veggie pizza. Both were pretty disappointing, the crust was super soggy, and it felt like they really skimped on the toppings. It's a letdown, especially since the pizza here used to be really good. Not sure what changed, but it definitely doesn't live up to how it used to be.

The five stars is for the massive mounds of meat on the 1950's pizza. So much meat that almost every mouthful was at least half full with meat. So much meat that the all the toppings seemed to weigh just as much as the crust. So much meat that it's like cramming the meat from 3 Subway sandwiches into 1 footlong, then eating the whole thing without the top half of the bread. You could go all over California to eat pizza, and it's like the only other place you could find to add in this much meat, would be a pizza place that you owned yourself. The other strange thing about this 1950's pizza is, that as one sits here eating and thinking about how plain and simplistic this pizza is, when all of a sudden you will taste something that makes you remember how something tasted like a very, very long ago, when you were very young. You might not even remember anymore what that food was anymore. But you will be thankful for having those tastes triggered, after having been buried for so long.

The environment is slightly less loud than chuck e cheese. The toppings slide off the pizza easily. The pizza is decent and the cheese pull is solid. Overall it is okay, could be better though.

Wanted to try a new pizza place but was sadly disappointed by my experience at House of Pizza. A large pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushroom and jalapeño ended up being ~$47 which I feel is pretty pricy and the quality was only okay. The pizza was a little too doughy. They definitely added a good amount of toppings though! I placed the order over the phone and the service was friendly. Overall, I feel the pizza was just average.

This pizza place has been in bussiness for over 45 years plus it's huge and clean and from the time you walk in you're greeted by staff members very friendly .the pizza here is unique it's made different from other pizza places the ingredients are fresh and delicious it was cheesy and sooo tasty and the crust was thin delicious the wings were really good as well they have a spacious bar perfect fit bday party celebrations business meetings or just a date night or even to hang out with some friends and share some laughs if you haven't tried this place try it some time you want to try a different type of pizza delicious fresh and not a long time wait

So sad to see what yall have turned House of Pizza into....my family has been coming here for decades long before I was even born. I'm just extremely disappointed to what this place is now versus what it used to be. Your staff is rude and offensive. The only reason I even thought of going is for the tradition for my parents, but after this latest visit (Saturday 11/8/25) the only tradition house of pizza seems to care about is controlling your customers and treating them disrespectfully! Because of your outrageous pricing, you'd think customer service would be top priority...guess not. Do better if not for your business, for the history of what house of pizza USED to be...

I've been coming here for many many years It's been a while since I've been here and just yesterday it was my father in law's birthday so we decided to have his party over here owners has definitely changed.The pizza is not the same. The staff was nice and friendly. I can at least give him that but to be honest with you i won't be coming back the pizza was not that great.

Worst customer service....... While we greatly enjoyed the pizza, unfortunately, an encounter with one of the staff members negatively impacted our visit. This employee was discourteous and unwilling to accommodate our seating request near friends, despite the restaurant not being busy at the time. Her behavior was dismissive and unprofessional enough that we chose to eat outside in the parking lot instead of inside. In addition I reached out to the manager George at his email kukarshouseofpizza@gmail.com and unfortunately he never bothered to follow up. We will never come back to this place and don't recomen it to anyone. My only regret is not checking out the reviews for this place from the start; That was my mistake. One of the worst establishments I've ever stepped into by far.

The customer service here is absolutely the worst. Had a couple of slices of pizza then decided to take the rest to go. They refused to provide me with a take out box because they were "too busy". I waited for them to take orders from all the customers in line and then asked again, they still refused and told me to use a take out container used for salads. It would have taken less than a minute to assist me. For what they charge, you'd think they'd be a little more respectful of their customers. I won't be back. Now I understand why they ask for tips when ordering. I wouldn't have been as generous if I had waited.

Terrible pizza topping slide right off covered in cheese pepperoni is not regular pepperoni chunks of meat just put everywhere with a lot of cheese not crunchy very floppy pizza

Quite honestly this icon of a historic pizza family restaurant has taken a step back in my opinion. The quality of the pizza and ingredients still hold originality, however their customer service needs a refresher course. It felt as though I was interrupting the cashier which at the time was chewing what appeared to be a mouth full of food and not gum. During the entire time I was ordering the cashier was distracted a number of times to where I had to repeat myself. At this point after my transaction all I could think was it's a good thing I have memories of this place growing up. I did order a salad from the salad bar and it appeared the salad bar needed some restocking. When I asked for specific items that needed fresh stock the worker asked me if I wanted the few pieces of vegetable that was remaining. I looked puzzled and said I would prefer freshly stocked to what was remaining which looked old. I know running a family operated business is not always easy but good customer service is also key factor. If you wish to visit a pizza restaurant that holds history in San Jose then this is a spot to check out. Have some pizza which is one of a kind accompanied by a beverage of choice and good company and you will walk away satisfied. As for the ambiance it still remains the same .

Prior to our arrival, my friend contacted the restaurant to confirm their ability to accommodate our large group. She also mentioned that we were attending a rosary service for her son and we'll be arriving shortly. Disappointingly, during our meal, the lights were turned off, which was particularly surprising given the restaurant's full occupancy. a couple of thousands dollars was spent, and yet they took our money and kicked us out during our meal. Nostalgic, it's different. My family and I really like this square cut, hearty pizza. IYKYK. This is the 3rd location I recall for this long standing family business.

Straight cheeks! -10 out of 10. Terrible Loud ambience. Insanely Poor service. 35+ mins for cheese pizza with only 2 parties in the dinning room. Then when we got the food, it was so trash it made me write this goofy ahh review!

My family has been coming here for decades. Pizza has always been good. Something has changed though. New management? Not sure but yesterday our pizza was substandard. Sauce was barely visible, there was so much cheese and it was salty. I called today to let them know. Was told that if I had called immediately, they could make it right, but since I called the next day, there was nothing they could do. If you like a good salad, steer clear of this place. On a previous visit I ordered a salad. What I got was a small bowl of iceberg lettuce and maybe a slice of tomato, I forget, it was long ago. Haven't ordered one since. We ordered the chocolate cake. Price was right considering what other shops charge, but the cake was dry and seemed stale. Sadly this gem of a place has lost its luster.

Bland... sorry but the product is overrated and overpriced, tasteless cheese and nothing like the pizza from the original location back in the day.

The pizza and garlic bread both were not tasty. They lacked any flavor at all, including basic salt and seasoning. The service was not friendly. The prices did not reflect the quality of food ordered. It was all very overpriced for what we got. I hope to see the management make improvements to their food quality and taste. We will not go back unless we hear of some changes being made.

Always a sloppy mess. Sooooo good. Round pizza cut into square pieces. Chopped toppings with a load of cheese on top. Makes me hungry just giving this review. We all know the days of a quality pizza for $20 are long gone. You want a bargain? Stick with Dominos. You want a great pizza shell out the money and enjoy the ride! One of my top pizza joints in the area.

Walked in on a Friday afternoon and was the only customer (not at the bar). From the moment my order was sent back to me receiving it, it took 24 Minutes , now I understand it's not fast food but how long should it take to make a "Very small" sized pizza with no other customers and 4+ employees in kitchen.Its my first time here so I don't know the average wait time, also they might have food delivery orders to get to. So I don't mind. The place itself offers a lot of seating 20+ tables, they play good music and also have a bar in the middle of the restaraunt. There is lots of fun posters and random decorations to look at while you wait. Staff are all super friendly and attentive, the pizza sauce itself had no flavor, but pizza all together was quite nice. The prices are fair for what you get. Would definitely come back just to try all their other options.

You either love it or you hate it. I am a big fan of Totino's Pizza. It's a frozen pizza brand. I love the flimsy and square shaped style and the cube pepperoni. Their meatballs are also good; tender and juicy. The marinara is mildly sweet. The corner piece gets dry or is dry so you ought to eat those corner pieces first. It does not reheat well. The rest you can eat the next day, but it gets rather hard and dry so reheat in the oven. This is not the type of pizza you can eat right from the counter/box left overnight. I always call in my order. Have never dined in. They have a bar and a family-friendly environment. The parking lot is huge and their dining area is huge as well. They have a bar, some arcade games, and a scratcher machine. A very rustic and dark decor. Good pizza and good service.

First and last time coming here HORRIBLE service and food ... the pizza was made in a hurry all soggy and coming all apart ..

Gone there for many years. Never had a bad pizza. Today was the first time it was a big disappointment. Pizza did not look like it even came from House Of Pizza very flat pizza very dry. I ordered the linguiça. Usually you could see the bumps on the top from the chunks of linguiça. It was hard to even find the linguiça they were there, but extremely thin sliced hopefully they haven't changed the way they make their pizzas and this is a one time thing. a little Caesars would've been better today than House Of Pizza's.

My family has been coming to House of Pizza for over 35 years, but after our most recent visit, we will not be returning. The level of disrespect and rudeness from the staff was shocking. From the moment we walked in, we were treated poorly, and the attitude from the employees, including the manager, Corey, was unacceptable. Instead of providing good customer service, Corey was unpleasant, dismissive, and unprofessional throughout our visit. To make matters worse, while waiting at the bar, we witnessed the bartender aggressively berating another customer--completely uncalled for and unprofessional behavior in any establishment. It's disappointing to see how much this place has changed for the worse. We always loved coming here, but after this experience, it's clear that customer service is no longer a priority. If this is how loyal customers are treated, I can't imagine how they treat new ones!

The customer service is horribles d a rough crowd here. Have been at this establishment last weekend and another event 3 years ago. Same horrible service. The bartender is RUDE. Obvious, that she caters to the regulars. Never returning.

5 stars for Felipe! The pizza has always been good but the service has always been the opposite. Today is the first time ever where the service has been fantastic and I've been coming for over 20 years. If the employees here were like Felipe, this place would have the best customer service in San Jose. The owners should focus on hiring more people with his attitude and customer service skills, it really makes an impact on the customers.

Favorite pizza in town they use a good quality pepperoni. However be careful if you have a sensitive stomach.

Heard good things about this pizza. We recently went and got a medium 5 topping pizza and 2 drinks was 50 bucks. The pizza was very greasy, lots of toppings and crust that tasted like it was from a can. So sad to say we were highly disappointed.

We attended Wekfest at the SJ Convention Center on a hot day and decided to walk down the street for some pizza. Our group included 9 people, including kids. Upon entering and sitting down, we were immediately asked to move to the waiting area. Kory, a shorter Hispanic lady, asked how many were in our group. We told her 9, but mentioned more friends might join us, possibly totaling 20. Kory informed us that they couldn't accommodate more than 20 people. We then asked if she could seat us and seat the rest of our friends separately as they arrived. She refused, saying she couldn't do that either. We requested to be seated as our own group, but she insisted we needed at least 15 people to be seated. This was puzzling, as there were plenty of small groups and the place wasn't busy. The refusal to seat us was very frustrating. I felt we were being discriminated against because we were a group of Asians. The service was terrible, and I would not recommend this place.

Another San Jose staple if you're looking for good pizza. My family has a 50+ year history with this spot, and I've yet to find another pizza that comes close to it. The term, "tastes like home" comes to mind each time I'm in SJ visiting and dine here or order out. The customer service has definitely dropped in the last few years, but it doesn't change the taste of the memories. A must try if you're in the area and want a good priced, cold pitcher of beer, and uniquely delicious pizza.

If I could give a zero star I would .. I absolutely loved this place for as 10 plus years and never complained but the host or whatever she is short girl with reddish hair named Cori is absolutely rude and worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life .. not only arguing with customers but arguing with the other staff as well worst experience ever

WARNING!!!! DO NOT EAT HERE. This place deserves negative stars! We came with a group of 9 people including 4 kids, and Cory the hostess refused to sit us because she said there was a minimum of 15 people to eat The sign outside clearly says they can accommodate up to 20 people at a time. There was another group of our friends on their way, and we told her they can get their own table. She kept insisting that she worked there for over 10 years and that she can't have both parties walking over to each other. We said that's not gonna happen, but she still refused to seat us. After the back and forth she changed her policy to a minimum of 15 when we told her there was only 9 of us. We pointed out the people that were already there in groups of 3. I asked for a manager and she said there wasn't one present. Total BS! As an Asian American, I've never experienced any type of discrimination to this level, and our kids had to be a part of it. Great tasting pizza! I did Karen out when my crust was under cooked as i wanted extra crispy but the lady bartender assured me that when the pizza cooled down a bit it would be great. I love that it is a pizza parlor with a great bar. I have live in San Jose since i was born and never have i come here once, until today. Great experience! Come check the place out.

Drove by around 915pm the other night and the establishment looked closed? I ended up getting 7-11 pizza and it tasted great, thanks for giving me the chance to enjoy from another place.

Probably one of the worst pizza joints in San Jose.....straight trash... horrible service.. and the pizza ...don't waste your hard earned money here...

Great pizza. Love the toppings under the cheese . The crust is so good and unique. Highly recommended!
