The Best Restaurants and Bars on North Williams Avenue in Portland, OR | Eater Portland

"Kulfi continues its breakaway success with this latest expansion to North Williams, bringing its namesake South Asian frozen dairy dessert to the neighborhood. The kulfi — first simmered and then frozen, making it less melty than ice cream — is offered on popsicle sticks in flavors ranging from rosewater and pistachio to combinations like spicy watermelon and jackfruit coconut lime. Nondairy, vegan versions are made with coconut condensed milk and coconut cream." - Nathan Williams

Portland’s Top Spots for Dairy-Free Frozen Desserts | Eater Portland

"A nostalgic nod to the Indian frozen dessert, Kulfi’s all-natural, fruity popsicles — which include refreshing vegan flavors like jackfruit coconut lime and blueberry basil ginger lemonade — have garnered a massive following around town. Portlanders can still catch the popsicle cart with a rainbow umbrella at farmers markets and events, like Beaverton Farmers Market and Montavilla Farmers Market, but the faloodas — a textural South Asian dessert float layered with mango puree, rice vermicelli, basil seeds, and coconut cream — are only available at the Williams and Alberta shops." - Waz Wu

Experience/Environment: Convenient location, we just had dinner down the street at Sun Rice then walked about five minutes and got to Kulfi. We passed multiple restaurants on our way— so you are set for a dinner and dessert situation. I didn’t realize the inside was as big as it was. There were plenty of seating, well lit and and not crowded in the crazy bright LED way, mural on the far wall (after all, we are in artsy Portland), overall just cute inside. Price: Typical for any boutique, ice cream shop you’re going to venture these days. $5-$8 a person. Food: Delish. They had a few unique flavors that I tried, but personally didn’t commit to lol. They weren’t bad, I just didn’t want a full scoop of exotic ice cream named after a spice. There was a specific GF section and that’s where I stayed. Service: Here is where I always give all my stars. Bella was phenomenal. She was fun, nice, perfect personality for Disneyland and ice cream shops. You’re lucky to have her! People don’t realize bad customer service ruin the whole experience. NTT [[Next Time Try]]: I can’t remember if they had any drinks — Maybe a coffee. But definitely a popsicle. Those looked bomb. I would’ve gotten one while I was there, but I was saving room for my food tour. Thank me later ;) Smile, eat, hydrate. Live honest and don’t settle. Hope to see you out there! xo

This is a cute dessert spot, and the ice cream itself is pretty good. We tried the mango flavor, and while it was refreshing, it leaned more on the “okayish” side — definitely could use more real fruit flavor to really stand out. What threw us off the most were the toppings. We came in thinking everything would be handmade, but they tasted more like store-bought, supermarket-level toppings, which was disappointing for a place that markets itself around quality. Overall, decent ice cream, but the toppings and flavors didn’t quite meet our expectations.

Google
Honestly, the BEST ice cream I’ve ever had! Seriously! Texture and overall flavor was even better than Salt and Straw. I loved all of the samples they happily provided. I decided on a scoop of Major Mango and a scoop of Chai. The chai sent me to heaven because it wasn’t a generic chai latte flavor. You can distinguish each of the individual Indian spices as they are meant to be experienced…perfectly bloomed and in harmony. The mango was refreshing, but not tart; mellow yet distinctly flavorful. I loved it. I also tasted the Rose City…it was delightful…the rose flavoring was just right. Not perfume-y. Toasted milk was lovely. The carrot dessert flavor was vey yummy, too. I’m so happy to have discovered this local business and will be a repeat customer, even though I take public transportation all the way from Hillsboro!

Google
Unique flavors highlighting flavors all over Asia (South, east, southeast). I got the jaggerty salted caramel and black sesame Oreo. But I could eat any of them. They have pints too. Street parking, not too much seating inside.

Google
One of the best ice creams I've had, not too sweet but extremely flavored. They have amazing Asian inspired flavors. I met the owner who shared her experience on her ice cream creations and it was amazing to hear. I had the golden milk honeycomb and rose City. 10/10

Google
MUST TRY!!! Nice owners who gave us a warm and friendly welcome and proceeded to give us recommendations and let us sample as much as we wanted. We couldn’t decide between several flavors so we opted to get a 4 scoop plate. It was delicious!! We will definitely be back for more.

Google
Such a unique and amazing ice cream place we have here in Portland! They have so many incredible Asian-inspired flavors, although they do have more “familiar” flavors for those who don’t like going outside their comfort zone. But I would definitely recommend trying one of their specials! I got the golden milk & saffron pistachio and both were delicious, with subtle flavors. My husband got the mango ice pop and it literally tasted like just eating a fresh mango. So good. We will definitely be back!

Google
Easily the best ice cream in the city and it's not even close. The textures and flavors are so unique and balanced. Favorites so far are Golden Milk, Kaapi, Marionberry Cheesecake, Mango, and Chai, but they always come out with new flavors that no one else has. The owners are super friendly and always patient with us while we sample. This last time we visited she let us try a new guava flavor that was still in being tested and it was amazing! Excited for when it comes out 😁

Yelp
Creamy, tasty treats! Tried the Malai Kulfi and it's super milky. Big fan of the texture. Definitely worth a try. They also got Falooda sundae-like treats. I'll be back to try their other flavors.

Yelp
Walkable Williams led us to this popsicle shop. The sizes appear to be small but the flavor is a good depth. The challenge is to be taken smaller bites and savor; can be easily gobbled up in seconds ;) A few seats inside.

Yelp
Loved it. They are on pricier side for a stick kulfi but the taste is good. I have visited their two different locations since my first try, tried three flavors and all taste good. This location in particular has space to dine in as well. The staff was friendly. It definitely rejuvenated the Indian food scene in Portland.

Yelp
Genuinely one of the happiest afternoons of my life stumbling upon Kulfi after reading about this place sm for Yelp. I'm the #1 fan of mixy mixy texture desserts (if this genre of desserts has no fans left, I'm dead), and the coconut mango falooda did not disappoint. The popsicle bite (picture) w mango purée, rose jellies, basil seeds, and rice noodles was MAGIC, ok. Perfection in a cup. Loved that I was in and out of there with quick, cheery service. Will be back!

Yelp
Finally got to check out this place I've been itching to try forever, and well, let's just say it might also be my last visit. Not because anything's wrong with the place or the service - both are top-notch! The place is stunning, and the service? Oh, impeccable! But you know when ice cream is either way too sweet or not sweet enough? Well, this one was like sugar overload for me. Now, remember, this review's just my personal take on it and how my taste buds reacted, but yeah, it was just too much sweetness for my liking. On the bright side, though, I absolutely loved the interior space, and they've got tons of seating indoors. Plus, big props for their variety of vegan options on the menu. I ended up giving it four stars mainly because of the sugar rush. Still, I'm glad I gave it a shot. If you've got a sweet tooth, though, this place is totally your jam!

Yelp
Interior wise, this is certainly much nicer than the Alberta location. I tried the Rose City flavor and didn't like it as much as I did the Pista and Mango Lassi. Moreover, I probably won't opt to dip (maybe only halfway) in the future: the white chocolate just didn't go well with today's flavor. Friendly employee and surprisingly easy parking.

Yelp
Cooling off from a warm Portland day with this cute Indian dessert shop. The staff was super friendly and helpful! Greeted us and explained to us what all they offered, including drinks like Falooda and Mango Lassi. I love that they have so many vegan + dairy-free options, and they were not plain options. I opted for their vegan Blueberry Basil Ginger Lemonade flavor which was super flavorful! Wasn't too sweet or strong at all. Just right. I will say the blueberry bits got stuck between my teeth so maybe not the best spot for a first date haha I'd carry some toothpicks or have water on hand. I would also take some extra napkins if extra warm out as it can get messy from the melting. The price was $5 which might seem a tad high for this single dessert, but I could taste the fresh and quality ingredients - and would describe as some basic "popsicle" but kulfi :). I will go back for their unique flavors and 5-star service.

Yelp
This place was really impressive. Unique Indian desserts for American hipsters in Portland- Genius actually. Tasty, craveable memorable, instagramable stuff- Winner Winner....Had a Mango popsicle that was super tasty. They make them all on site I think. They do some very fancy super over-garnished "shakes" Faloodas they are called. - Highly recommend you try it.

Yelp
When I was little way back in the 70s, there were fudgesicles that had a lot of ice milk in the texture. It would crunch a little and crack like an ice floe. That's what these kulfi remind me of - a not unpleasant memory, I always found them refreshing. We both got the basic Malai flavor (caramel milk), mine coated with marshmallow and hers with dark chocolate. Toppings were only an extra buck, and the server whipped out a little blowtorch and charred the marshmallow topping! It was very tasty, a nice, refreshing treat. The bars were a nice size so they weren't super filling, which was great because I'd stuffed myself at Lua down the block.

Yelp
Love, love, love this place. In a town with many great ice cream options, Kulfi stands out. Staff are always super friendly and helpful. The bars are amazing and now they are doing scoops! Rose City is my favorite.

Yelp
We were craving a yummy dessert and we're sure glad we walked by this place! The owner (I presume) was extremely welcoming, explained the options, let us sample flavors we were deciding between, and offered great customer service overall! So many delicious options, we will definitely be back again!

Yelp
Amazing ice cream. Best flavor ever. Nice staff. Chill vibe. Open air seating. Perfect for a early summer afternoon.

Yelp
Loved trying something new! First time trying falooda didn't disappoint. Was hesitant to have a dessert with rice noodles but it added a great texture and was easy to both eat with the spoon and drink through the straw. Delicious!

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing dessert spot! Not pictured but I was very impressed by the berry cheesecake popsicle! It was creamy and sweet - I wish I coulda gone all the other days I was there on vacation. There isn't a ton of seating but walking down Williams St is a great alternative. The employees were very friendly and informative of the flavours they had. Will definitely be bookmarking it for the next time I'm in town.

Yelp
What a great find we stumbled on strolling around north Portland while on a waitlist at a nearby restaurant. They had both indoor and outdoor seating with a large open garage door that created a charming and welcoming vibe, so we wondered in. I recently discovered I have a milk allergy and inquired on any dairy free options. The gentleman at the counter was incredibly friendly and helpful! He directed me to not only the dairy free options on his menu, but also other local places nearby! They had so many enticing flavors of the Kulfi bars. Strawberry mint lemonade, coconut, and coffee were a few of the dairy free flavors that were calling me. I decided on the coffee bar and went for a dairy free chocolate dip. It was delicious! A super light, creamy, and sweet snack. Also, their drinks and floats looked AMAZING! At this time, they don't have any vegan options in them, but if you aren't opposed to milk, try one! They looked so yummy! We'll be returning. It will be a great little spot for a sweet treat this summer.

Yelp
Omg - this place is amazing! The perfect spot on a hot summer's night. Vegan options + hot-dipped chocolate options + toppings?! We were all in heaven.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! I've been here way too many times in the past few weeks the ice cream is so creamy and delicious and the faloodas are great too! It's like a dessert drink with a lot of great textures and the perfect amount of sweetness! Taste light and refreshing! Love it. So happy they opened up next to us also the staff is always super friendly and great as well!
