"A SoMa-based Filipino business incubator and arts organization, Kultivate Labs launched the Filipinos Feed the Frontlines fundraising initiative to raise $100,000 to pay struggling Filipino restaurants to provide 10,000 free meals to local hospitals and vulnerable people in the SoMa community; the nonprofit’s survey found more than half of the Filipino restaurants it works with have suffered a 90 percent drop in revenue, and executive director Desi Danganan emphasizes the program’s culturally specific focus and the Filipino concept of kapwa — deep empathy and interconnectedness — as motivation for mobilizing Filipinos to help other Filipinos, with participating restaurants to be paid about $10 per meal." - Luke Tsai
