Very authentic sushi and Japanese food. The chef is so kind and has amazing food and service. In Compton but once you step inside it feels cozy and intimate. Instantly greeted with Japanese hospitality. Best sushi in the LA area!! A hidden gem in the neighborhood and Highly recommend if your in the Compton/Long Beach area!!

Some of the best tasting Sushi I have had in a very long time. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with a smile. The owner/chef is very friendly and was happy to see someone enjoy his craft and the delicious food prepared by him. I personally could not stop eating and ordering more Sashimi, it was just that delicious and I didn't want it to stop. This is definitely a must if you like Sushi. I highly recommend!!

This was my first time her with my family. It was the best ever. Never have I been to a sushi restaurant that has best quality and the best taste. I tried the lobster popcorn roll the best, yakisoba delicious!, Also tried spicy edamame, Philly roll,beef gyoza. This food is so good, delicious my family loved it. I am definitely coming back, recommend it to everyone looking for great sushi.

I LOVE KUMIKO!! Bruce is a very nice and engaging owner/chef!! The food is top notch!! I took my family there and my cousin went back the next day!! I eat here weekly!!!! I am Vegan, so I get the salad, cucumber roll, and I can get the fried rice, but the cucumber roll is my constant!!

Secret Gem!!!! Passing by for years but never went in. Today I had my first try and it was AMAZING!!!! Nice clean and comfortable atmosphere. The people are so nice!! I had the Lunch Special Bento Box was pretty hefty!! Flavorful, Fresh, Quick. This place is definitely becoming a favorite!!

One of the best sushi dinners we have ever had. Chef Bruce Lee and the staff were amazing, thank you for introducing us to katsuo, snapper and Bonito flakes. Mackerel was out of this world. Scottish salmon and hamachi... melt in your mouth

What a Gem! This is truly a delicious and cozy Compton spot. Look beyond the area and go try this delicious place . We had Heart attack and creamy Shrimp for appetizers and my partner got a few fresh sushi and I got the baked salmon roll that was super creamy and yummy! The Matcha LATTE WAS very nice

I can confidently say that Chef Bruce served me one of the best meals I've had all year. My family and I went to Kumi Ko a few days before Christmas, and we were absolutely blown away by the quality of ingredients and the skillfulness of execution. We did an omakase style meal, where Chef Bruce basically handcrafted a menu showcasing his signature dishes. Each dish was top-notch, highlighting different flavors and sauces and textures. Two of the standout dishes were the seafood udon, which had a warm kick (chili oil I think?) and the tako sashimi which was served with a citrusy gochujang sauce. But regardless of what you order, I genuinely don't think you could go wrong. Next time our family is in LA, we will definitely be back!

BEST & FRESHEST SUSHI & SASHIMI IN THE AREA! Don't look at the neighborhood it is in. Go for the Fresh, Tasty & Authentic Japanese Cuisine & Sushi/Sashimi. My husband is Japanese and has a distinguished palate when it comes to freshness of Sushi & Sashimi. He LOVES THIS PLACE. Recently, we ordered takeout Kumiko Boat & Garlic Fried Rice with Chicken for our 7th Wedding Anniversary dinner at home. They were SO YUMMY!

Parking is good and it's gated once you get there you will know why. Around the area is rough but it's a nice hidden gem with some of the freshest fish we tasted. Service was great possible owner is very attentive making sure everything is just right. Menu was a little confusing at first when ordering. Once all figured out we know for next time how to order. Quiet we went on a off day there and no one was there besides my little family. Will definitely come back here.

This was a hidden gem in a part of the city you wouldn't expect to find great sushi restaurant! This cozy spot has a very traditional vibe, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. The food was incredible! The portions were much larger than I anticipated, and every bite was fresh and flavorful. It's clear that they take pride in their ingredients and preparation. The surrounding area might be a bit rough around the edges, the restaurant is gated, which made us feel safe and comfortable throughout our meal. If you're looking for a unique dining experience with authentic sushi, this place is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend!

dont order door dash or any delivery from here!!! the owners are scammimg and not cancelling the orders and getting paid anyway once you cancel the order for overcharging you after you've placed the order they raise the prices and then don't answer the phone... i used to love this place .. I dont know if its a communication barrier or what but this is bad business Kumi Ko..

The traffic was terrible on the 91 so I decided to grab an early dinner. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. But the second you walk in, the place is nicely decorated and has a wonderful atmosphere. The food is absolutely amazing. The side bowl of rice came with a bit of furikake on top which added a pleasant amount of flavor. The fish is top top quality. I'd recommend this place to anyone and will be taking a lot more early dinners going forward.

Very rude!! Terrible customer service! Cook their wasn't even wearing gloves!! I had to leave and get a refund before my food came out forsure won't be back

This place is just a knockout. The service was amazing very attentive and helpful. The ambiance inside is perfect. The food was amazing the best sushi I've ever had this side of little Tokyo. If in the area please give this place a try they are truly the best sushi restaurant around the area.

I placed a large order for a company event. I called it in a couple days early and followed up early on the day of delivery. The food was ready on time and the chef and some employees helped load it into my car. At our event, several of my employees were asking me where I got the food from. It was very fresh and delicious. I ordered the kitchen boat, two of the smaller boats, the large sashimi boat, chicken teriyaki and some other things and everything was a hit. Thank you for the great food!

First time trying out this place and don't let the location fool you inside this place it's nice and cosy and has a cool little set up I placed my ordered to go just to try them out and let me tell you the sushi was really good . my wife and daughter approved of it I seen some people eating and and they looked like they we're getting good service . So I'll definitely come back with my family and eat in

My daughter and her husband took my niece and I to dinner last night. It was a very clean place and the service was AMAZING. But the best part was the food. I am so invited to go back. Omg.... Wow. I am without words. This was my first time going here for lunch. I ordered a spicy chicken plate, a teriyaki plate, gyoza, and a chicken fried rice plate. Everything was so delicious! I am definitely coming back here soon! Fyi the restaurant is low key in the ghetto, but it's a very cute spot and the quality in food and service was all great.

I love coming to this little hole in the wall! It's a cute spot with amazing service, the staff is always welcoming, friendly and nice. I've tried a variety of rolls from the Kumi Ko roll, Golden Tempura Roll, to the Tiger Roll, Red Dragon Roll, and Shrimp Killer Roll--they've all been delicious and tasty! I highly recommend trying their appetizers such as the shrimp tempura and the crispy rice spicy tuna as well. Lastly, their Udon soup is a must, at least once!

Kumi Ko is such a gem! I've been coming here for years with co-workers and I'm shocked that it's taken me this long to write a review for this place. I've done both dine-in (pre-pandemic) and lots of take-out since covid. My most recent visit was just last month. Their indoor dining room is open once again and my co-workers and I enjoyed a delicious lunch. My go-to is often the Tempura Vegetable Roll made with eggplant, carrot, zucchini, yam, green beans, and squash. The portion is so big that I often have leftovers. https://bit.ly/3yXHwb2 Though if I want to get something healthier, I go with the Kumiko Vegetable Roll made with cucumber, avocado, kobo, radish sprout, beets, asparagus, inari, kampyo, and oshinko. The vibe here is very relaxing. There's often something jazzy playing on the speakers. Customer service is always friendly. They have a small parking lot so it's an easy "treat yo self" destination.

This place is always fresh and delicious. I know the sushi is good because I've tried a variety of them but I was pleasantly surprised with the spicy seafood udon! It is packed with octopus, clams, and crab (imitation but still good). The spice level was great, big portion and very flavorful. Definitely give it a try! The owner is always so nice and gives the best recommendations - listen to him!

Absolute gem! I couldn't believe it because of the location but honestly this is THE best sushi restaurant ever!!! I believe the owner was helping and serving and he is the sweetest person! The food was outstanding and the cleanliness of the restaurant was great! We tried the the creamy shrimp appetizers and they were fresh and crunchy. The popcorn lobster roll was a decent size portion fresh and crispy. My daughter always gets edamame and she loved them. The red dragon roll was huge! And sooo tasty and finally the shrimp tempura roll was delicious, creamy and crunchy . Honestly I was blown away! Please come support and give this place a try soo good!!

The sushi here is delicious. I've had both baked and fresh rolls and both have been of great quality. They also have some generous lunch and happy hour specials here. The service here is also great. It's refreshing to come to small place like this where the owner is present and passionate about his business. I honestly didn't expect such a good experience from a sushi restaurant in Compton but i find myself coming back again and again.

Lovely gem in Compton. Food is delicious! Service is attentive. The only issue I would say is paying. It has taken a while to get the bill and pay. Another thing to consider is owner will present great delicious rolls but if you're on a budget be wise with prices. The location itself is cozy and welcoming.

We order from here ALL the time. Whether it be pick up, or through Uber Eats/Postmates. We love it here!! When ordering through the apps or pick up, they always make sure to pack all the things you need and individually wrap/pack your items. Which personally, I like because I have my plate and so does my partner or friends. They also make sure to put cardboard in the bag to keep it stable! When going in person, you can feel the love for the community and the people who come to enjoy their amazing food. The folks working there, servers and chefs, prioritize your comfort and make sure that you're happy and welcomed. It makes me want to ALWAYS come in person to eat instead of ordering out. As for our food, we had a variety. My partner isn't a seafood lover but kumiko has made him willing and open to try it all. This is what we order in the picture: 1. California Roll : we always play it safe for him to have this. It's always good and freshly made. 9. Mexican Roll : I love getting this california roll-ish twist! It's delicious and I highly recommend it if you want to get something like california rolls but with a little spice (not super spicy but just right!) 11. Garlic Edamame : (we got it spicy) SO GOOD! You can also never go wrong with this. I dipped it and sauced it up as much as I could. The garlic isn't overpowering and works well the flavors combined. 7. Spicy Baked Salmon Roll : another roll that I love and that my partner really enjoys. The finishing sauce on top sits well with the baked salmon. It doesn't over power it but compliments it well. The sesame seeds aren't overpowering and add a great touch of seasoning to it. It's a nice and warm option to have! 15. Shrimp Ceviche Roll : this was our first time tasting it and let me just tell you, it slayed, it delivered, it was bomb. This fusion duo was a hit! They didn't skimp on the avocado nor the shrimp. I am satisfied! 3. Yaki Soba (chicken) : not pictured, however it's another staple for my partner to get. He doesn't usually full but with yaki soba, and a roll or two will get the job done. The yaki soba isn't oily, the noodles are cooked just right with PLENTY of chicken and veggies. A great balance of the noodles and ingredients within. Overall, this family-owned restaurant in the heart of Compton is a must. The ambiance is just great and the food is even better. I'm so glad we discovered it. We just found out they catered and can't wait to try that service out. We also found out they have an Instagram and have sushi and painting nights, we also can't wait to try that out. Give it a try! Kumi Ko is my favorite sushi spot in my area and beyond. They're always so friendly when I go inside too. The food is as good as the service. Always fresh and presented really well. We love the rainbow rolls, steak teriyaki and karaage. Must try's!

The ambience of the restaurant is calm and pleasant. The food is delicious, especially the veggie roll. It is crunchy, fresh, full of flavor, and carefully made. The service is superb, the owner is so kind and welcoming. Kumi Ko is definitely my favorite sushi place!

I ordered an eel roll and a salmon roll for almost 50 dollars. To my surprise, upon taking the first bite, the taste of rotten fish overwhelmed me. I went directly back to to the restaurant with my food nearly untouched. The owner of the restaurant proceeds to slam my plates into the garbage without inspection and offered to remake it. I declined his request and asked for a refund. He then refused to give a refund. I was very disappointed with my experience, especially being a Compton native, as I was looking forward to experiencing Japanese cuisine in the community.

It's located in the sketchiest of neighborhoods but my God the sushi quality is amazing. Highly recommend. It's a small spot, so don't expect fast service. If you do come here I suggest calling in your order ahead of time so you don't have to wait.

A hole on the wall restaurant. Really great service and food. I ordered the Showgun roll, my family ordered the Alaska, Oh, Boy roll, Ceviche roll with Mango. We had fried vegetable rice and chicken Karague.

Good food mom pop shop in the Hood good service sushi was good good flavor been here a few times always fresh and good sushi for being in compton haven't found better one around the area .

From the outside looking in you wouldn't think it's a sushi spot. But take a chance and try it, it is worth every penny. There are menus set up outside for viewing so once you walk in you go straight to the register to order. You can sit anywhere and they will ask if it is to go or dine in. Everything was fresh and their spicy garlic edamame was delicious. Will be coming back!

This spot is located off the 710 and Alondra. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and salmon tempura roll. They were delicious ! The chef and waitress are nice and their interior is beautifully decorated with an authentic Japanese vibe. Just call in and place your order. There is plenty of parking. Customer service is so awesome. They explain the menu to you if you don't understand they come out and explain very good atmosphere also very clean.

Kumiko is definitely a diamond in the rough. My first visit there a couple of years ago made me a little leery of sushi in the hustle and bustle of Compton, where I may be more inclined to pick up tacos or burgers. Sushi?? Can it be trusted? It was worth a shot. KumiKo did live up to my expectation from any sushi establishment. Fish was fresh, rolls were beautifully crafted, and the dining room was clean and inviting. The only reason I did stop in yesterday, is they don't have TVs - so we would have missed the Dodger game, other than that KumiKo is a staple and a hidden gem in the rough of Long Beach Blvd.

Kumi Ko is THE BEST sushi I've ever had. Period. The staff is always welcoming and attention. Their space is clean, home-y, and has great art all over. It'll always be my first choice when it comes to sushi.

Food is ok for the price. Seemed like the fish wasn't fresh. Maybe they have to use old fish bc they aren't getting through it fast enough? The service is attentive and the dining area seems clean enough.

This is one of my favorite spot to get sushi from! It is so fresh and delicious and they have many great options. The staff is professional and super respectful. Every time I'm craving sushi, this place is at the very top of my list.

First of all, it's in Compton. Of course I read the reviews but, I was still skeptical. I live in Orange County around a lot of amazing Asian foods including a lot of delicious sushi. I can literally eat sushi every other day. I don't but, I could. The first time I came here, I made the mistake of not ordering ahead. I waited a long time. I was irritated since I was on my lunch. But, I realized it was my fault. There's no indoor dining. The first time I came, it was pouring rain. I came the second time and they had tents and tables set up outside. It was cute. You have to order inside first and take your stuff outside to eat. I got the sashimi and sushi bento the first time. I was shocked how fresh the fish tasted. And how much food it came with. I was feeling a little extra that day and also ordered a hand roll and an order of ikura. It also came with Miso soup. I got the sashimi lunch special and it was just enough. Again, it was tasty and fresh. And they're so nice. I've only been there once and the lady inside remembered me! When I'm craving sushi at work, I'll come have it here! Oh, they have an extensive menu. More than just sushi.
