It seems to me that, after a few great experiences and reviews, that they've either changed the chefs, lowered their quality, or I keep popping in on a bad day. Everything we had that required frying (egg rolls, wings, shrimp, etc etc) was overcooked. Everything that was either glazed or in a sauce (General's, Mongolian beef, bourbon chicken, etc etc) was super salty with no distinctive flavor to the sauces. Even the clarified butter they now use for dipping seafood is salted butter, not the traditional sweet unsalted butter that better compliments the seafood. The fish used for the sushi also seems to have become of lower grade and lesser quality. I don't think I've ever had such flavorless salmon and tuna, which are typically my favorites. I had to absolutely drown them in soy sauce to get flavor, but then you're getting the flavor of salty soy, not the fish. I don't even like HEB's quality of sushi, but HEB sushi is much better than what I recently had at Kumi. It shouldn't be that way!
We definitely didn't leave hungry. Even when the food isn't great, you'll take your chances and try enough things that you'll end up full... but not satisfyingly so.
Service is still great and all the spaces are promptly cleaned. You still have your choice of viewing pleasure from one of the many large screens televisions in the dining areas. All our drinks were refilled before we ran out, plates were cleared, extra condiments and crackers were gladly provided in a timely manner. Teo always does an excellent job!
