Definitely a shop for coffee nerds. Their single origin espresso and pour over menu is awesome and the iced pour over I ordered was immaculate. Their New England drink was great, but doesn’t hold a candle to their pour over. Also love the selection of beans on hand. This is a place that takes its craft seriously and it’s so well-executed that the steep price does not phase me. I’m not local, but I will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.

Stepping into Kumquat feels like entering a sanctuary of refined taste and thoughtful design. Every cup is a masterclass in precision — balancing bold, luxurious flavors with a clarity that highlights the craftsmanship behind each roast. The espressos are rich and layered, with deep, nuanced notes that speak to the quality of the beans and the skill behind the bar. From the wide selection of coffee to the exceptional breakfast burritos and tasty pastries, every detail feels considered and elevated. They excel even with small touches — like the ceramic cup warming my hands or the staff remembering my name. The hospitality at Kumquat transforms a coffee run into a ritual worth savoring.

Flat white with Ethiopia Bishan Wate - 4 stars For this lighter roast I believe they use a higher brew ratio so the texture is on the more watery side. May have gotten a little bit of jasmine but it wasn't very pronounced. Turkey sausage breakfast burrito - 3.75 stars Sausage was on the salty side and seemed to have a strong ?fennel flavour. The potatoes had the same texture as the scrambled eggs.

This place wasn’t exactly what I had pictured. It’s a very casual coffee shop with some seatings to enjoy pastries and coffee. I got their pour over coffee (geisha) that was $10. The price is very steep, but it was different in a good way. They made it well. It was slightly on the citrusy side. I personally like my coffee on the chocolate-y and nutty side, but I just had to try the premium pour-over coffee here. The croissants were good, but I would have preferred them warm, if that was an option. Parking was free for 45 minutes WITH validation. I didn’t like the way a valet guy was talking to me as if I was a second-class citizen because I was a Kumquat patron, and not that of Jonathan Club. But, aside from the rude valet guy, it was a pleasant place to sip away coffee surrounded by skyscrapers.

Google
Kumquat Coffee is in an unassuming space with phenomenal coffee, service and breakfast burritos. The Cloudy (with a chance of peanuts), an espresso drink with peanut butter cold foam and chocolate flakes was unbelievable (I got mine with oat milk). Over the course of two days, I also had both vegetarian breakfast burritos. The egg, cheese and potato was pretty basic, but the curry tofu-based vegan cheese-less was terrific (order ahead or it will be a 15-minute wait).

Specialty coffee store. Sleek & minimalistic, they also sell equipment and other goodies. My flat white was delicious, the hazelnut pastry and the walnut chocolate chip cookie too. Really friendly staff, I was their first customer at when the store opened, and it got crowded right after.

I’ve been here 3 times and I always get great coffee and service. The staff is really nice and the coffee is like nothing I’ve had before. Very unique takes on classics like their mocha. You can tell these baristas know what they’re doing. I had the Cloudy (With a Chance of Peanuts) and it was amazing. Definitely worth visiting :)

This place is simply amazing! Every single thing I had here exceeded my expectations. The matcha latte, hands down, is the best I’ve ever tasted. I ordered it with no sugar and almond milk, and the flavors were phenomenal—the deep green color, earthy notes, and rich, delicious taste were perfect. The space itself is modern and spacious, with a comfortable seating area and plenty of natural light. I stayed at a hotel nearby and walked here so I am not sure about the parking in the area. They also offer a fantastic selection of pastries and breakfast burritos. I tried the white cheddar biscuit, citrus cornmeal muffin, and potato burrito, and I can highly recommend all three. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and made with care. I initially planned to explore other local coffee shops during my stay, but I ended up coming back here three days in a row because it was just that good! The potato burrito does take a few minutes to prepare, but you can easily order it ahead on their website—just be sure to choose the right location. And I love that they open at 7 AM! I’ll be dreaming about their matcha latte from now on. I can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
The cloudy is not a drink: It is an EXPERIENCE. Originally I was going to get matcha after getting influenced by @withbrandon to come here, but then I read the Yelp reviews and decided, "I can make a good matcha latte, but I can't make a quirky coffee drink." It's almost like 5 drinks in one -- the barista recommended for me to not mix the layers -- espresso, peanut butter foam, and cold milk -- together to get the true cloudy experience. The evolution feels like espresso hot latte cold foam latte peanut milk tiramisu-ish. And it is so, so delightful. The espresso tasted a little sour at first, but once I got to the milk, it became very enjoyable and balanced. I could not stop drinking it. It also wasn't too sweet. The baristas are all super nice and it looks like it would be so fun to work there! I'd recommend taking the Metro and not really trying to work here, though.

Yelp
As a fan of dark roasts, their lighter fruity roasts didn't do it for me. Didn't finish my cup. Nice place though. Appreciate their craft.

Yelp
My friend who's a coffee connoisseur and a former employee of Coffee Movement SF says this place is his favorite spot for coffee in LA. Parking wise the situation is quite bleak as it's on a street that doesn't allow parking from 7-9am on weekdays, so go with a friend who can run in to order and grab your drinks so you don't end up with a ticket. I really enjoyed the iced americano I had even tho i don't know what the name of the bean was. It was light and flavorful with a very smooth albeit acidic finish, but it never quite had a bitter kick at the end which was nice. I will say the sizing is a lot smaller than your typical coffee shop, but I would love to try a pourover next time!

Yelp
Hidden gem in DTLA Craft coffee with variety of selection roasts Here you can order from their carefully curated menu of drinks that are both aesthetic and tasty They also have unique pastries I haven't seen before too. Minimalistic style inside but there's decent seating. Great for solo dates or bringing a friend ALSO- their ice cubes... IFYKYK

Yelp
Still my happy place! Especially now during the holidays. Best staff & awesome service. Always clean and everyone is super welcoming

Yelp
Cute coffee spot in downtown. Parking is validated and safe. Their baked goods shelf (on select days in limited quantities) is incredible and provided from their sister bakery Fondry in Highland Park.

Yelp
I absolutely adore kumquat coffee. I've tried the New England iced latte with oat milk, and the espresso is so smooth and well done, and their coffee is not overpowered by a sugary syrup. It is a perfectly balanced drink. The staff are so friendly and open to any questions, which I'm so appreciative. Whenever I've gone, it's always later in the afternoon and most of the pastries are gone so it was happy I got one of their cookies. It was delicious. I'm a big fan. It was crispy yet chewy on the inside. Parking is difficult here in this area, but you could park next-door at Jonathan club (valet only) for 45 minutes before you get charged, make sure to validate at Kumquat! The inside is pretty minimalistic. There are a couple tables so there might be some difficulty finding a place to do work here. But checking this place out for the coffee is definitely worth it! One of my faves in LA.

Yelp
10/10 would recommend kumquat. Friendly staff and super clean environment. Cute merch in the store. And excellent coffee and matcha. Need to return and the pastries.

Yelp
Hands down best coffee shop in DTLA. So glad they opened one here so I don't have to make the journey to highland park. The workers here are sooooo nice and helpful in their suggestions. The matcha latte here is the epitome of a perfect matcha latte. Also really love how unique their menu selections are.

Yelp
Love this place :) I usually get a matcha latte with oat or soy now - amazing quality matcha! Drinks come out quickly and the servers are very friendly They have another location in Highland Park and a sister location called Loquat in Cypress Park. I briefly talked to the owner and he is very kind. I can tell he cares about the employees and the stores as he comes in and works here himself sometimes. This has definitely become my go-to spot for coffee when I come into work.

Yelp
I love love love Kumquat. The space is large with a wall of benches to sit on and a few spots at the coffee bar. We picked up a a box of beans from Copenhagen and a bag of their house made sweetened matcha mix and hojicha. The cortado I ordered was smooth, delicious, and nicely balance. The beans they imported and sold were fantastic and on my list to grab when I'm overseas. The matcha though is top notch and now I wish I would've tried it in house. The blend to go was fantastic and I used it all up at home. The guys working were s knowledgeable and very friendly.

Yelp
Best coffee I had in my 4 days in LA. Nice and clean open concept in a beautiful private building downtown. The gentleman barista you could tell was an expert and the lady who rang up our order was so patient and made some wonderful suggestions. Homemade syrups were a good touch and they had all ethically sourced beans from around the world and took the time to tell us which ones were being used that day and their flavor profiles. Absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. We tried the flattened croissant item from the bakery case as well and it was out of this world. Will seek out this coffee cafe next time I'm in LA.

Yelp
First time here, parking can be tricky if you're not from the Jonathan club. Attached and connected to the Johnathan Club, discount if you have an ID or membership. Otherwise walking distance from a couple businesses near by. Extremely clean, great atmosphere, lots of seatings and easy menu with options: extremely friendly staff, slower service but wasn't terrible. Would return and recommend.

Yelp
Lots of coffee options! Clean/ nicely designed space & friendly service. Matcha latte was great at 50 sugar except next time less ice. Would definitely come again!

Yelp
Such an adorable coffee bar tucked away within the throws of DTLA's bustle! I would have never known of Kumquat had it not been for my coworkers who frequent on a weekly basis. I had to try for myself one day and ventured next to the Jonathan Club where the Brooks Brothers used to be. The line was impressively long for 10am - there's minimal seating walking in straight from the front door, and more seats line up against the front window facing the bar. They have lots of coffee and coffee-related accessories on display for sale as you wait - great marketing. They can't say much for the pastry selection or maybe it was because it was 10am, but there was barely any to choose from. By the time got to the front, I ordered my iced cafe latte and didn't have to wait too long. Awkward climbing over the line of people waiting, but grabbed my drink as soon as I got it. It was great and would definitely come back again and try a specialty drink!

Yelp
但确实整体出品质量不如Highland Park老店 日常疑惑 Kumquat什么时候能换一家糕点供应商??? Friends & Family真的不好吃... Yelp
This quaint and clean coffee spot was near our hotel and a nice 5 minute walk. Located in a historic building and never overcrowded. The people there was so nice and friendly. When I came back the day after, they recognized me and said "welcome back". The coffee here was amazing! I'm from Hawai'i and love my coffee. We don't have spots like this on the island. Day 1 I had the seasonal Harvest coffee - their pumpkin spice flavor. It was delicious! Not too sweet and nice hint of pumpkin. I can't recommend the potato burrito enough! Perfect breakfast on the go, made fresh, and was the best breakfast burrito I've had. My kids had the hot chocolate and drank it in no time. My husband had the Americano and said it had a nice flavor. Day 2 I had the single origin mocha (definitely recommend)! The foam was thick, creamy and lasted until the bottom of the cup. Not too sweet, just right. So good! I also ordered a Thai iced black tea for the road trip (I finished my mocha while waiting for my potato burrito - again). I grabbed an apple hand pie warmed up for the road. The staff takes good care to craft their coffees and teas. Perfect coffee spot if you're looking for great coffee and good food. I'm definitely coming back again the next time I am visiting L.A.

Yelp
Came here for coffee and quick breakfast. Awesome choice! It's a cute little shop with some interior seating. The chairs are so cute, wish I took pics! Staff was so friendly, when we told them we haven't been before they explained the drinks to us. We ordered bacon breakfast burritos, I got the Tennessee and my sister the New England hot. Coffee was so good. The flavors are subtle and not overpowering in any way. The burrito was the perfect size and so good. Deliciousness in each bite.

Yelp
Kumquat is about a ten minute walk from my office. It's really easy to miss because they're on a part of Figueroa that most people speed-drive by. Also, it's not clear that people can park at the parking lot associated with the Jonathan club (minimal street parking). But a lot of people who work at the offices in the surrounding area (including me) are regulars to Kumquat. It's actually quite spacious when you go inside. I like that aside from their seasonal items, they have so many different kinds of matcha, tea and coffee beans for sale. I usually get the iced vanilla latte or their matcha latte. The coffe's pretty smooth. S met me for coffee here once and was a fan of their flat white. The matcha that they used is quite earthy. I find that I like it hot instead of iced. I've also had their breakfast burrito, which does sell out every day. It takes about 15 minutes better. Quite good and it comes with a pretty nice salsa.

Yelp
After hearing numerous accolades about this place, I couldn't resist checking it out. Upon entering, the beautifully decorated interior immediately caught my eye, featuring vibrant red chairs and an enticing display of coffee beans. Seeking some recommendations, I consulted with the friendly staff and settled on a hot New England Latte and a Tennessee. To my delight, the drinks were promptly served. The New England Latte was luxuriously smooth with a delightful flavor profile, while the Tennessee offered a refreshing and intriguing blend of smoky and malty notes. I was also impressed by the coffee shop's pristine cleanliness and inviting atmosphere. Needless to say, I'm already planning my next visit!

Yelp
The place was bustling when I stopped in recently around 1 PM. So many people there enjoying their coffee and pastries. The space is kind of small but it didn't feel too crowded. Even with all of those people, there was no line and I got my order in quickly. I got my current obsession - an espresso tonic - and picked up a couple of artisanal chocolate bars. The staff was friendly and very fast to prepare my drink. I took it to go because I needed to get back to work. But it was delicious and I will definitely be back. I wish they were open on the weekend but I understand they are in a business area that doesn't get a lot of foot traffic even during the week.

Yelp
Best coffee I've had in LA so far. Their baristas are consistent, friendly, and talented. Excellent latte art, too!
google avatar

Kristie H.

Yelp
This is probably the best location that they have. If you go early, there are a few meters in front, but it's so great that the Jonathan club will validate for up to 45 minutes for free. Staff was very kind and there was a decent amount of space to eat there. If you work in the area or are in the area, I definitely would come check out this new location that is currently in soft opening phase.

Yelp
One of the best coffee shops in LA. Kumquat was founded in 2018 by Andres Jinhan Kim, who has an extensive background in chemistry and coffee. This DTLA location is their second shop, conveniently located directly off the 110. The shop is modern and minimalist, with a good amount of seating. Their menu is creative, offering unique specialty drinks. The bakery case was well stocked with pastries from local baker Friends and Family. Their signature "Tennessee", a latte with Maldon salt and sorghum syrup, was exceptional. In fact, one of the best lattes I have ever had. My husband got an iced Hojicha latte, which was also very good. Their use of high quality ingredients is evident. The baristas were all genuinely friendly, and seemed happy to be there. 10/10.

Yelp
Love this new location! Parking isn't too bad (free metered parking in front before 9 am), bigger than the highland park location, and staff is very friendly! Per usual, the drinks are amazing! Today I ordered an oat latte and it was great!

Yelp
Amazing Coffee! Perfect Balance and Delicious Chai This coffee shop blew me away! Their coffee is absolutely phenomenal, perfectly balanced and brewed to create a truly delicious cup. It's clear they take their craft seriously, and their meticulous attention to detail results in a truly top-notch coffee experience. They also offer a delicious chai latte, with the perfect touch of cinnamon added on top. Highly recommend this spot for coffee lovers and anyone seeking a fantastic cup of joe!

Yelp
Had previously only been to the Highland Park location but this new downtown location is excellent. They offer several coffees (including light roasts) as espresso and as pourover, as well as a nice selection of fancy chocolates. I had a Passenger Montecarlos Gesha as espresso and another Gesha as pourover which were both solidly enjoyable. My wife loved the Hojicha Latte. Overall, highly recommended and probably my new favorite cafe in the LA area.
google avatar

Linda Y.

Yelp
I love kumquat coffee. I'm so happy to find out they are in downtown LA. But the location isn't very ideal. It is literally right before a highway and there is maybe like four spots for parking. But when you enter, it's super spacious has a lot of places to sit, and it is very modern designed. Everyone there is super friendly and I actually got a new drink that I haven't seen before. It is a Matcha but less caffeinated, and it was so delicious. It was like a roasted taste, and it was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely new location. Expert baristas. Excellent drinks. What isn't there to love about this place? I can't find a reason. I ordered two drinks cause I couldn't decide what to get, both drinks were fantastic. The El Salvador Americano was delicious, I am slightly biased because that's my birth country. The latte was well balanced and not overly sweet. They've taken the time to craft great drinks and extract some fine coffee. Looking forward to another visit to this wonderful location. Parking sucks when DTLA is busy, but that should be expected in the area. Still worth the effort. You won't regret your visit to this coffee shop
google avatar

Seohyun P.

Yelp
love the new place! currently soft opening and is open until 2PM. I would recommend the cloudy if you like coffee and nutty flavors. it looks a lot smaller than the other drinks, but it's because it has no ice, and experiencing the different flavor profiles and temperature differences throughout the drink is worth it. i think i do want to try the same drink once more but mixed next time but mix it up before drinking, just to experiment and see the difference. one downside is that parking is a bit difficult here; typical downtown la though. and there aren't particularly tables or anything--more so just large bench like seats. but they have wifi, nice vibes, and especially nice baristas!!

Jin P.

Yelp
Awesome specialty shop for single orgin espresso they serve. They dialed it in perfect for what I ordered (2 espresso and 1 latte) using proper calibration of EG-1 grinder for each roast. Definite must check out if you like acidity in coffee (specialty).

Yelp
Kumquat Coffee reigns as the foremost coffee establishment within Los Angeles' exceptional coffee scene. Indulging in Kumquat's creations is akin to experiencing a revelation with each sip, offering an extraordinary journey of flavors. Kumquat, with its original location in Highland Park, is known for the impeccable quality of its carefully curated coffee beans from small-batch finest roasters from all over the world. This new DTLA location delivers the next level of unforgettable coffee experience with its comfortable dine-in atmosphere with drinks served in ceramic and glass drinkware. It is a perfect tranquil spot to work or have a quiet moment with a cup of the highest quality brew. What truly sets Kumquat DTLA apart most is definitely their baristas - Jerry, Richard, and Michelle. Their genuine warmth and dedication to customer service elevates the whole experience. Their passion and extensive knowledge shine through with every sip. Their offerings, which rotate on the availability of beans, take you on a journey around the world through beans they locally and exclusively roasted and curated from roasters in Seoul, Pusan, Osaka to even Berlin. They even had not just one but two options for Gesha pour-overs last week.

Yelp
Probably the best cold coffee I've ever had in Los Angeles. I had the cloudy and it was phenomenal.

Yelp
Love the minimalist aesthetic and the artwork at this cafe. Major plus that they allow dogs inside too. I ordered a cappuccino, which was perfectly brewed and foamed, and a blueberry muffin that had a nice crusty top. Service was great too, and love the extra care they take when making my cup!

Yelp
Very overdue review ......... This review is only for the Knotted Donuts since I didn't have time to try their coffee which I am sure its wonderful from all the reviews. For someone who have tried the Knotted Donuts in Korea I was very excited to see that they had this pop up for the first time to try it here. I have placed the pre order and went to Kumquat coffee to pick up my order. Street parking is very limited but I figured since its a pre ordered donuts I can just park at the loading zone and I should be in and out in no time. Boy was I wrong... the line wasn't so long.. about 4 people in front of me HOWEVER each order took awhile... Wish they had better execution for the pre ordered pick up where they have another line instead of everyone having to stand in the ordering line. There was about three people working there and again.. its a very slow slow drifting in the cloud kind of atmosphere there.... hahaha Anyhow finally got my donuts and was on my way. Soon as I got home we all dug in to the donuts.. and i was very disappointed... They tasted.. about a day or two old donuts... I wondered if they really actually brought these from Korea directly which would make more sense that these tasted day or two old... all in all I regret getting them... had high hopes but was not worth the drive to Downtown to pay about $33 for 6 donuts... Will not be ordering them again.

Yelp
Visited KQ before work on a weekday and they were so busy (must be all the corporate employees nearby). Despite the large volume of drinks, I got my drink within 7 minutes! Their Kumquat tonic was pretty good, but not carbonated enough in my opinion. Probably bc they use sparkling water instead of tonic water? The Maldives Cooler seemed to be a popular choice among non-coffee drinkers. Retail: They sell coffee beans (I saw Fritz coffee), filters, matcha, matcha equipment, and other goodies! Remote work: Originally, I was going to take a meeting here, but it does get pretty loud if there are groups talking. Comfy seating lined the back of the store. Wifi was available. Parking: metered spots in front of the store (one way street), costs $1/hour

Yelp
Been here twice. I work close by do parking is not an issue. Otherwise there's a couple of spots in the front of the store and I'm told they validate parking. I got a New England hot with almond milk the first time. Good, nothing I haven't tasted before. The next time I got the cloudy with oat milk and a regular milk foam. I don't like cold coffee drinks but I was assured it comes at room temperature. It did. Now this was an inventive coffee drink. I was advised not to stir it. I didn't. I listen to instructions. It was an Explosion of different flavors every time I took a sip. And the peanuts at the end....brilliant. Service is very friendly. And they provide recommendations. like all the other coffee places now it's pricey. Expect to pay $7 or $8 and change incl tip for a cup.

Yelp
Atmosphere- if you're a coffee snob like me then there are five pour over choices that made my heart sing! The pastries are beautiful and great atmosphere and staff.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my coffee as always. This location is definitely more discreet in terms of its location. The inside has a few benches for seating.

Yelp
We came here during their soft opening and ordered a hot and iced New England latte, and 2 sausage burritos. Everything we ordered was great!! A little pricey I will say, but it is in Jonathan club so that probably has a little to do with that! Otherwise, we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Small coffee shop at the JoNathan Club with a limited hangout space. Extraordinary coffee with a hipster vibe. It's worth a stop if you work downtown.

Yelp
After walking in I immediately got the feeling of zen and calmness given the minimalist furniture and ambiance of the place. I got their ice tea while my friend got their cafe latte. The ice tea was perfectly brewed and was smooth. A lovely place to spend a Saturday morning slowly sipping your drink!

Yelp
This place was so LA but it was delish! The baristas were all so nice, lattes were delicious and the morning bun and ham and cheese croissants were delicious. Want to go back and try the espresso mule!

Yelp
BARISTAS! MIXOLOGISTS? ALCHEMISTS? New Experience Coffee/Tea EXPERIENCE just opened 545 Figueroa next to Jonathan Club. Two stylish curators greeted me in the simply zen drink lab. In smartly tailored matching gold-hued lab coats they decoded their menu and I opted for "CLOUDY with a chance of peanuts". The barista weighed beans and checked all systems before crafting what appeared like a cappuccino in a clear glass/beaker with a sprinkle of peanut dust rather than canela. She confided in me, with a knowing smile that I should take small sips so the lightly sweetened foam would gently arrive at the bottom mixing peanut dust with a sweet creamy finish. Her "forecast" came true! Great coffees & teas. Artisan chocolates, glorious pastries, brewing implements including macha and whisks. Beautifully simple and new age decor. This laboratory has great chemistry!

Yelp
FIRREEEEE. Came for iced matcha and food and then ended up getting a iced latte on my way out as well. Iced matcha with a touch of added vanilla was perfect start to my day. Staff was very friendly and I appreciated their recommendations and water refreshes as I sat there to do my work. Vegan tea cake was delectable as well. Interesting interior vibe- low seats and one counter where you can sit and watch them make things right in front of you. Bit expensive but I'm excited to try more here! Matcha and tea cake were highlights and must tries. Thinking of buying a big bag from them!
