Kung Fu Mama - Review - Covent Garden - London - The Infatuation

"London is like a spoiled only child when it comes to handmade noodle shops and in Kung Fu Mama, it has somewhere hyper-functional for those in need of a swift bowl that’s more satisfying than any meal deal. A fast-casual spot in the middle of Covent Garden, this place is more noodle production line than restaurant, and is primed for a hangry crowd with its touch-screen ordering and high counters for shovelling. You can choose from a few noodle varieties: ‘wavy’ wheat, biang-biang, or rice noodles. There’s also a sloppy (not entirely wrong, but also not quite right) soft shell cab bao, among other things. Stick to the noodles and be safe in the knowledge you’ll be in and out within half an hour, and will have barely broken a tenner. Food Rundown Chicken Thigh Noodles With Ginger & Sesame These dry handmade wheat noodles are available to buy by the pack, but they also come with sliced chicken thigh, cucumber, coriander, spring onion, slivers of ginger, and a glug of chilli oil in a bowl. The noodles have a good bounce and serious chew to them, although the whole thing is sorely lacking in more sauce and flavour. photo credit: Jake Missing Soft Shell Crab Bao This bao looks impressive but it could do with a bit more finesse. The crab is a little squelchy on bite and there’s too much of the cured egg yolk sauce. On another day, it could be great. photo credit: Jake Missing" - Jake Missing

Food was incredibly tasty, especially the 12h marinated beef with szechuan pepper, it was sooo tender, there was barely any chew! I also loved the soft shell crab bao and mango shaved ice cream. All the food was such good value for money even though it's in the heart of Covent Garden. Staff was so so nice and helpful. I'd definitely recommend.

Super quick service - we ordered on the kiosk and got our foods to go in about 5-10 min maybe. The chicken noodles were pretty good for the price, chicken was especially tender and flavorful, noodles were a bit dry though and could use more of the sauce. Good portion size too, will be coming back ☺️

The hype is a bit overrated for me. It was really crowded when it first opened, but I went on a rainy day and managed to get a table right away. The prices are quite cheap and affordable for such a central location. I got the popular beef dish — the beef was quite tender, but I wish the noodles were more flavorful; they were a bit bland for me. My friend got the chicken one, and the chicken was good too. The milk tea was nice, and the shaved ice was great with a good portion size. Overall, it’s worth a try. The place isn’t very big — there are seats, but they fill up quickly. You order from a machine, and I’d say it’s more of a fast-paced, takeaway-style restaurant

Paid a visit recently after walking past and then searching it up on Instagram. We ended up ordering 5 items (pictured) and the bill came to around £48 for 5 items between 2, which I would say isn’t too bad considering the state of London prices atm (diabolical btw) Personally, the only star of the show was the Soft-Shell Crab. I found both of the noodle dishes rather bland and one-dimensional, even with the addition of some of the condiments on the side table. Granted, the meat in both dishes were cooked quite well and weren’t dry or tough. Service was quick and super nice, our server was kind enough to tell us to keep an eye on our stuff as theft was apparently pretty common in that area. All in all, 3 stars as the food itself was quite underwhelming but the service was great and the ambiance/aesthetic of the shop is pretty cool.

A little gem off from the overpriced and over-busy Covent Garden streets. Gorgeous fiery beef noodles with broccoli and even more chillis - yum. Quick and friendly service, buzzy vibe. Highly recommend.

Fantastic food, in the bustle of Covent Garden, and really good value for money. Stopped in with 2 friends about 8pm and there was no queue. I had the beef noodles (you can spice it up more by asking to) and tried all 3 sides. Each delicious. Tried the chicken bao which was also excellent. I can’t wait to return with my son who loves noodles. A great spot.

Such a great place with an amazing atmosphere and vibe! The food was delicious with such an amazing story behind it! The owners Noam and Chris have such a great history in food and you can really tell with these super tasty dishes! My favourites were the chicken noodle and the cucumber salad! Also worth the trip for a cheeky mango shaved ice which was perfectly sweet and tangy

If you’re looking for great Taiwanese street food this is definitely the place to dine. Great tasting food and quick service. This is not the place to have a romantic evening at your first date. But if you’re looking for great value for your money and a treat for your tastebuds then look no longer. Highly recommended!
