Allston’s Super 88 Is Now Home to Kung Fu Tea | Eater Boston

"At Super 88 I noticed a new Kung Fu Tea location (1 Brighton Ave.) that debuts a wide-ranging tea menu spanning bubble teas and taro slushes to frozen matcha snow creams. The founders set out to bring Taiwanese bubble tea to the U.S., and the menu is built around tea leaves from Taiwan; according to the brand, teas are brewed every three hours and bubbles (boba) are made every two hours to ensure authentic taste and consistency. Offerings include standard iced teas (black, green, oolong), coffee milk tea, taro milk, almond milk, lemonade tea punches, yogurt and espresso options, plus various frozen beverages. Kung Fu Tea is an international brand with locations across the United States and Canada, plus Australia and Vietnam; this Super 88 spot is the second Kung Fu Tea in Allston (the first opened at 131 Harvard Ave. in 2013) and one of seven locations now in Massachusetts." - Dana Hatic

Google
Good prices and quick service. Mixed reviews in all the drink we got. Some really good and some mid.

Ali L.

Google
Service was fast, one of the drinks was made wrong but the employee remade it without hesitation. I liked the taro milk tea, taro flavor is subtle but it was good

Tushar S.

Google
I don’t drink tea, just out of curiosity ordered Boba Coffee. It was a good experience, as I mentioned them about my sugar intake preferences. Good Place Good Staff!

Google
STEAR CLEAR UNTIL NEW MANAGEMENT OR PLUMBING Unsure if this location has faulty pipes, bad cleaning, or management that is not strict on employee handwashing. Either way the result is the same, months of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. IF one boba drink is worth that to you then this location is the place to go, otherwise reread the first line. I was incredibly disappointed by this as this has been my first bad experience with the Kung Fu Tea chain as a whole.

Aleksei Moniz M.

Google
Great bubble tea and a really clear menu when it comes to labelling allergens. This location is always running out of something, it seems like. So be flexible, try something new, and if your first choice is out, ask for a recommendation in its place. The staff are great about it. The shop is loud, so don't plan on hanging out for a while without headphones.

Jayavidhi K.

Google
This location has Lunch breaks and Dinner breaks from 1-1:30PM and 6-6:30PM. There is no official google store time update but they have a post-it on their door.

Maya B.

Google
The tea is very good but I was here the other day and there was one staff member. I waited in line for 20 minutes and then waited 10 more minutes for the drink. Please get more staff. Again, the tea is very delicious!

Google
Hard boba and so sweet it will make your teeth hurt - would not recommend esp taro boba

Yelp
" Who invented this ; absolutely delicious " King fu tea is a little slice of boba heaven in your mouth . Who invented this ? It's absolutely delicious and my new guilty little pleasure. The service is helpful, patient and friendly. The vibe is very welcoming. Parking is limited but manageable. I definitely will be back over & over lol .

Yelp
Boba is so good here. Come come I highly recommend to go to kung fu tea. I ordered coco cream wow!
google avatar

Selim K.

Yelp
taro milk tea is really really good here. haven't had it in a lot of places but this was very impressive

Kai D.

Yelp
I went in and asked if I could get a sample of one single ball of popping boba to see if it is wanted to buy it and the man there told me no very rudely. I was not satisfied with his customer service and walked out

Yelp
Favorite location! Consistently good flavors and fast! We are here once a week and never disappointed.

Yelp
A very typical boba place. Definitely not the worst I've had, but by no means the greatest either. I love a good milk tea, but this place doesn't offer any dairy free milk so I'm limited to teas. I've had a few different teas that have been pretty good, but the boba has been hit or miss. A few times, I've had boba under cooked or very minimal boba in the serving. I appreciate the selection of teas, and the menu does seem to offer a lot, just limited for those with a dairy allergy. This place is somewhere I would go if friends wanted to, but not something I seek out given my experiences. That said, it's a chain so there are a few locations which may have better experiences. I want to recommend it more, but not my go to boba place.

Brianna T.

Yelp
Terrible service - payment on app was broken, waited 20 minutes for the 2 drinks just to be told to try paying again. Waste of my time.

Yelp
I really like this Kung Fu Tea location--the bubbles are chewy and soft, and my drink is always made really quickly! The store has a couple of tables and a window counter to sit at, and I enjoyed using the wifi while drinking my tea. This past visit, I ordered a mango green tea with boba (and of course the mango jelly that comes with it) and it was really tasty! There was definitely a generous amount of jelly and boba, but it wasn't too much/there was still enough tea :) A big part of the appeal of this location is that it's often on the empty side, but while it is perhaps counterproductive, I would definitely recommend coming here for your bubble tea fix! Remember to check in on Yelp for 10% off!

Yelp
This KFT has come to the rescue countless times during my undergrad years at BC! The amount of bubble tea I have bought from here is probably equivalent to my tuition (lol) but hey, treat yourself am I rite?!! :-) This is pretty much like any KFT in the area so I have no complaints! The menu is standard with lots of variety, service is efficient, and it is frequently visited by BC students. On multiple occasions, I have asked KFT to cater for club events by ordering 20-50+ bobas at a time and they have fulfilled our requests with no problems. I know many clubs do the same, which only shows how this place is beloved among BC students. Even when I visit BC now as an alumni, it always ends up with a trip to KFT so I know I'll be coming back here!

Yelp
My favourite thing about this location when I lived in Cleveland Circle was there was never anyone inside to make you wait longer than you wanted to for bubble tea. Some days it would be concerning not seeing many people inside. I had to wonder if they were close to closing down this location. I had a few hit or misses with the temperature of the hot teas I'd order. I lived nearby so I just heated it up more when I'd get home. I like my teas HOT. This location is small in the front but there's more seating after the pick up counter with a hallway of bar seats. It's always empty in here so getting a seat is never an issue.

Yelp
Go to place! I go here all of the time ! Love the taro milk tea. Honey milk is good too
google avatar

Elaine C.

Yelp
Great location with a ton of front door parking! My go to is their taro milk tea with boba! The boba was perfect- chewy but not too cold or not too hot. I got 70% sugar and it was really watered down. The sugar level could have been more consistent like the other locations, but to be fair I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I ordered 2 drinks and also the only one there.

Anastasia V.

Yelp
Service was okay, when I got my drinks I didn't even notice that one of my drinks didn't include boba even though I ordered both drinks with boba. I got charged for it too. I had already left and it was too late to go back, it was pretty pricey for both drinks with toppings too.
google avatar

Stella L.

Yelp
So good but a bit too sweet even with zero sugar, strawberry Sakura sesame with boba.
google avatar

Alison K.

Yelp
Great place with a big menu of different teas to try. They have some more traditional milk tea flavors and a lot of tropical or fruity flavors as well. Service was pretty fast and there's a small seating area. However, the shop gets pretty crowded and once there's a bunch of people waiting for their orders, it gets a little cramped.

Upper East Side Runner ..

Yelp
This review is for my Taro Bubble tea, Saturday afternoon, February 20, 2021 (afternoon). My past experiences have all been positive until yesterday. The gentleman working didn't seem happy to see me (the customer), and didn't offer any pleasantries; not even an hello. The Taro bubble tea was ordered with 30% sugar. The tea I received was incredibly sweet; the Boba tapioca balls were pasty and didn't seem fresh. A completely different experience than all previous visits. (Perhaps need ownership?). I'll be back, but my expectations are low.
google avatar

Jen H.

Yelp
Nom nom nom! After walking around the Reservior, it was nice to get some boba on the walk home! My go to Winter Melon Green Tea with 20% sweetness and boba was delicious! I finished it before we got home!
google avatar

Kristie H.

Yelp
Is it the best boba? No. But it's a good boba. I usually order via Door Dash and I've never had a problem for delivery. If you order in house, I'd definitely download the app to use their coupons and keep treads for their discounts here and there.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
I LOVE Kung Fu Tea! I love the different selections of drinks they have. Rosehip milk tea is my new favorite! I didn't give 5 stars because the service can be slow. Other than that, I am a big fan!

Thanh C.

Yelp
I just bought two drink this evening. I paid total $14 for my order. While I was waiting for the drink I saw the guy only filled my cup with water but not tea all the way to the rim. I dont know why he did that. I would not recommend this place. I would rate 0 star for this business.
google avatar

Shan R.

Yelp
Tried the mini bubs for the first time here with the Honey Milk Green Tea. They looked cool and fun and I thought it would be fun to try! I would NOT order these again. They are so small that you find yourself unable to chew them and enjoy them. Sometimes I almost choked on them because they were so small :,( 4/5 would get KFT again but no mini bubs
google avatar

Marlana Y.

Yelp
Same quality and taste as other Kung fu teas. I love their chewy soft boba! I'm glad they opened a location here because the one in Allston is annoyingly crowded. It's winter break which explains why it may be empty now but I'm not complaining. Parking may be a pain because it's limited meter parking here. I ordered 3 drinks and one of them was made wrong so make sure to double check your receipt before leaving.
google avatar

Yelp
So I guess $100 and $50 is not cash or something...it's bad customer service who doesn't take 50 and 100 as valid currency, as a business...what make you think you deserve good service when you don't accept people who has cash $50 and $100 dollar bill..you save tons of change for 20 dollar bill and you don't change for 50 and 100... shame on you as a business store...don't bother take any cash then... I asked for management on duty, the guy told me there is no manager...so the customer has to suffer the childish of the employee who is so lazy to make cash change
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
This is probably my go-to spot for getting bubble tea or smoothies. I've tried most of their milk teas, which all are very sweet and milky/creamy. My two favorites are the honey milk tea with boba or as passionfruit smoothie. You can adjust the sweetness and the ice level of your drinks to make if you don't have a big sweet tooth and it'll be just as tasty.

Eli H.

Yelp
It's good. It is very nice and is a very standard kung fu tea. Good everything great boba!
google avatar

Cat Z.

Yelp
Yummmy. i love the is okace. I love boba and this place is awesome This is amazingplace I really like the yogurt boba
google avatar

Yelp
Having just moved to the Cleveland Circle area, I was thrilled to see a tea and boba shop nearby and couldn't wait to try it. I walked in and immediately felt like I was back home in Southern California. I ordered a large almond milk tea with boba and anxiously awaited my drink. The place was empty except one couple, so my drink came out fast. But the worker was not friendly - I tried to crack a joke and he wasn't having it. He didn't smile once when I said "thank you" or "have a nice day!" Thus, sour customer service is minus 1-star. But regardless, I've heard this is some of the best boba and tea in town, so I'm sure I'll become a regular. I just wish they served Thai iced tea with boba as well. Oh well.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
This establishment is rather similar to any other Boba Tea place and they offer a nice selection of beverages: teas, slush and smoothies. Prices are reasonable but be careful not to add too many toppings (that average $1 each); otherwise you'll be paying $6+ per large size drink. Also, the drinks tend to be on the sweeter side so it's best to ask for 50% sugar/sweetness. Overall their location is great because the next closest Boba Tea place is likely 2-3 miles away on Commonwealth Ave.
google avatar

Siddharth G.

Yelp
Pretty standard Kung Fu Tea location, they're open till fairly late on weekends. Between this and Vivi near Brighton, I'd prefer this definitely. More varied flavors and better seasonal specials!
google avatar

Deja V.

Yelp
Awesome place with nice staffs , drinks are perfectly made. Small place to stop by for drinks and chit chat. Drinks are always good here.
google avatar

Elaine L.

Yelp
Kung fu tea is your staple bubble tea shop. I usually get the taro milk tea with bubbles. It is pretty sweet, so adjust the sweetness to your liking. They have so many different flavors, it can be a bit overwhelming especially if it's your first time. Only bad thing is this location is usually pretty busy and there's always 2-3 people working behind the counter. Also, there's seating in the back, so don't think it's too full when the seats up front are taken.

Amy L.

Yelp
If you are looking for the buy 2 get 1 Valentine promotion, don't go for this location. The location claims the machine is not working properly thus can't honor the promotion. Who knows. I just thought they could have done some work around.
google avatar

Joanna P.

Yelp
This Kung Fu Tea location is small and clean. There are two high chair seats by the winder and two full tables (4 seats at each table). My first visit was on a Sunday afternoon. The service was friendly but slow (which is understandable because there were only 2 employees working). I noticed their sign that they are still hiring full-time and part-time employees. Once they are fully staffed, I think this place has great potential. Glad to see this chain expanding in the Boston area! Solid tapioca balls and milk tea. Although the Harvard Ave KFT location is closer to where I live, this location has more convenient parking than the chaos in Allston.
google avatar

Lemuel L.

Yelp
I've always lived within 20 minutes of this KFT and I've never had a bad experience here. This location in Cleveland Circle is super convenient for the BC crowd and for those living along Beacon Street. Less than a two minute walk from the Reservoir T stop and just steps away from the Cleveland Circle T stop, this is an accessible location for those looking to get their boba fix without venturing down Comm Ave and taking the B line. This place can get super busy so just plan accordingly. It usually takes me around 10 minutes to get in and out.
google avatar

Sondra L.

Yelp
I always go here to fix my Bubble tea addiction. It is quite near are home and conveniently located as well. It is near a T stop. The servers are very courteous and helpful. They know what they have and can even recommend drinks for you according to your taste. I'll always keep coming back to this place.
google avatar

Janelle G.

Yelp
This place is great for boba! Been here twice and got the coconut milk tea and regular milk tea. On the last visit they were running a special for a free upgrade to a larger size. Will be visiting this location again soon!
google avatar

Emma L.

Yelp
Usually really good! Fast service, sometimes the people working can be a bit mean. The reason for the three stars is just BASED on my EXPERIENCE TODAY. It's 11:40 am and I ordered two bubble teas and they told me the BUBBLES for my BUBBLE TEA, wouldn't be ready for another 20 mins! They should have started preparing the bubbles BEFORE their store opened. *common sense So I'm basically just getting overpriced tea... fail. Also, they didn't tell me that they didn't have the bubble until AFTER I PAYED. So I was like.... whut. Help. Now I'm drinking a lychee punch with red bean!? Because after I payed they told me the worst news ever *which I don't recommend=nasty

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
This location is cheap and the employees are not intelligent professionals. We received a buy 2 get one 1 free promo and the girl at the counter told us their coupon reader was broken for the night - how convenient. They also had the ad for the promo right in front of the register... she couldn't figure out how to comp a drink in the system? There are plenty of other bubble tea places in the Brookline/Allston/Brighton area. I will not visit Kung Fu Tea again. Service is just as important as quality.
google avatar

Rod E.

Yelp
They forgot 1 drink. Gave me a medium instead of a large on one of my orders. Why ask how much ice when you give more ice than I needed? Had a drink WITH boba when I ordered no boba. But, despite that, they AT LEAST offered to give my money back and the drinks we did get (despite the mistakes) were good
google avatar

Zi N.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with Kung fu tea! The teas are always up to standard - fresh and tasty. There are lots of choices but I always go for a good old Oolong tea or Kung fu milk green tea. Their Matcha milk tea is also good, though the flavor is a bit too thick. I always ask for 50% matcha powder which the server is happy to accommodate. Always ask for less sugar, IMO. Also, try the orange yogurt - best thing ever!
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
My husband loves getting his matcha tea with boba here. He says it's the perfect amount of sugar and the boba is a good soft texture, not hard in the middle like some places make it. Conveniently located off the C line Cleveland Circle stop and next to lots of restaurants, so a great dessert stop for after a meal!
google avatar

Crystal K.

Yelp
First time trying today and will definitely be back! We tried the taro slush with bubbles and herbal jelly wow milk- both delicious! The taro slush was sweet and creamy, just like drinking ice cream. The light purple color was pretty :-). The herbal wow milk was light and refreshing. Saw many drinks I would want to try-especially the taro and red bean choices! With the chestnut hill reservoir being so close, we look forward to enjoying many king fu treats and a nice view this summer!

Srishti B.

Yelp
Great customization options! Came here multiple times and never disappointed! The Thai milk tea and lychee punch are the best I've had so far!
google avatar

Arthur L.

Yelp
Excellent tea! Fantastic service! Love the Thai Milk Tea! Try the app for discounts!
google avatar

Mindy N.

Yelp
The boba here is the perfect balance of sweet and chewy. I love the order ahead option since this place can get busy sometimes.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
Great bubble tea place. Come here way tooooo often. It has quality boba and different variety of flavors which is always delicious. It can get a bit busy some times in the afternoon but worth the wait
google avatar

Katherine C.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for bubble tea, definitely swing by Kung Fu Tea. It's a quick treat. It's a little pricey (approx. $5 or $6 for a drink), but it's the entire business so I understand. I highly recommend the taro with boba.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
I really enjoy Kung Fu Tea as do my kids. Great choices and flavors. The popping boba are my favorite! I think the prices are in line with other bubble tea shops in the area.

Heesu Y.

Yelp
The service, quality, and tastes are all so good! They also put hand sanitizer up front due to coronavirus!
