Everything You Need to Make Bubble Tea at Home | Eater

"A busy bubble-tea shop near the author's high school that became a ritualized lunchtime destination; intense, competitive lunch-hour lines created an adrenaline-fueled experience as students raced to order, often risking being late to class but valuing the social payoff." - Kathy Li

When it comes to KFT, you really can't go wrong regardless of location. Stopped at this location last June after having dinner nearby and I always ask my older son, ice cream or bubble tea and bubble tea it was. As long as they have Taro and particularly as a smoothie/ice blended, we're there. My older son is almost 10 but ever since just before the age of 3, introduced him to Taro bubble tea which is the only flavor he's ever had and wants. The boba here is always consistently good at fair prices with plenty of flavors & add-ons, venues are always pretty sleek on the inside as well as clean and service is always friendly.

Google
I go there a lot with my brothers & sisters! I went with my new puppy recently & they let us in and loved my baby as much as we loved the atmosphere & customer service. A young asian worker with red highlights & another worker with orange hair & white glasses at the time served us and both deserve a raise + the owner is so sweet too~ thank you so much & go to KFT 11/10

Google
Ordered Taro Boba Tea but this is really different and didn’t taste like taro at all !!! It could have been better though. But the place looks really nice. Heard good things about their boba. Will go back and try other flavors as well. Overall okayish experience.

Google
I wanted to try slush and asked for a recommendation. I was told that Mango slush was a popular choice. I ordered and to my surprise it was lacking fresh flavor. It tasted like artificial flavors mixed with water. The popping boba’s very tiny. The place had a nice seating arrangement and atmosphere. It’s definitely a local favorite place for drinks.

Google
Kung Fu Tea in Glenview is a go-to spot for quality bubble tea! The drinks are always made just right—perfect sweetness, great texture on the boba, and a solid variety of flavors to choose from. The staff is fast, friendly, and the shop itself is clean and inviting. Whether you’re grabbing your usual or trying something new, they consistently deliver a great experience. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving a refreshing treat!

Google
Hot KF milk tea is great in winter! Definitely recommend this place. Clean snd spacious

Google
Tried honeydew boba and it was great. One of the good boba places in suburbs. Friendly service.

Google
Asked the staff if their boba contain gelatin or not as I explained I’m Muslim and can not consume gelatin (as most gelatin made of pig) - they checked all their menu details and made sure it’s all vegan based except the one with honey coated) - I tried the passion fruit green tea with mango boba and my boys tried with cookies and cream and Oreo flavors, they were all good. Staff was helpful and inside was clean including bathrooms.

Yelp
The strong plum taste of the boba and the fact that it was still so warm and warmed up my entire iced drink was a bit offputting. I didn't care for my drink here. Easy ordering on touch screen kiosks, and they sell cute keychains at the front counter. Pricing in line with other local boba shops, and easy strip mall parking.

Yelp
I've always passed by this particular Kung Fu Tea location and this was my first time stopping inside. I actually love how convenient this location is because it's inside a strip mall so there's plenty of parking to go around. My friend and I stopped by after dinner to continue catching up. I got the sesame matcha milk tea. It is now my new favorite drink at Kung Fu Tea. I never realized how well those two flavors go together and it was the perfect sweetness. I will definitely be stopping by more often.

Yelp
Stopped by this cafe to get some sweet refreshing drink. Located in a busy shopping area, there's a parking lot but you might have to circle around looking for an empty spot. Cafe is nice, double entrance from the street side and the parking lot. Ordering counter is in the parking side, tables and chairs in the street side. You can place your order on the kiosk, otherwise someone at the counter will help you. Great place for bubble tea.

Yelp
Today I decided to try something different and got their Thai milk tea with aloe jelly. I feel that majority of the drinks I have gotten at Kung fu tea are disappointing. Considering how many other bubble tea spots I've been to this one is the least tasty one and the most expensive one. The service is good at kung fu and also the ambiance is of a cute bubble tea shop. There are lots of locations as well. Considering the drinks I have received from other bubble tea spots this one is not compatible to others.

Yelp
This location of Kung Fu Tea is located in a strip mall of a market and various businesses. There is plenty of parking but this location does get very busy throughout the day. We came in mid day for a pick me up, and just moments later there was a huge crowd that came in, but the staff was super kind and had a huge smile on their face the whole time. For my drink, I got the Mango Slush. I was expecting more of a slushee like ones we'd get at 7/11 but this one was more icey with big chunks of nice. The cashier had said there was mango jelly in it but with the large chunks of ice I don't know if I truly got any mango jelly? But that's okay! My friends got to try a few different drinks and recommended that I try those next time. I look forward to trying other drink options, like their brown sugar or taro ones soon.

Yelp
Always love KFT especially when it's so close to me. And this location is a nice sit down place to study/relax with friends but is limited on seating. I always get the Wintermelon classic tea with 50% sweetness, but I tried the Strawberry milk tea today. Definitely recommend this drink for super sweet tooth people but this drink was wayyy too sweet for my liking. Even with 0% sugar, it tastes like it's 100% sweet so if you like less sweet in general, the strawberry milk tea is a no go. But the bobaristas were really nice and let me exchange for no charge because I didn't like the sweetness. Will always be coming back for my boba fix.

Yelp
KFT has always been a reliable place to get my boba fix. I love their boba flavors and their slushies. What I like about this location is that they always make their boba tea perfectly and the workers are always nice. They also never run out of the matcha sesame milk tea which is one of my favorites. They do get pretty busy on weekends though so I would recommend downloading the app and order ahead of time if you don't like waiting a while.

Yelp
Looking for diary free options, which they had a whole section for milk with lactaid (it doesn't work for my husband), they said they could substitute with oatmilk, so I was gonna get the sesame matcha one with oatmilk but the staff said that one specifically they can't do... I still ended up getting it with the milk with lactaid added (default). The flavor is just mediocre, not a whole lot of matcha flavor, and the sesame didn't blend very well, there were large chunks up top and too fine powders on the bottom. The texture isn't that good. I think it would've been better if it's thicker so the crushes sesame can suspend in the drink better and would be more palatable. The lactaid milk isn't really good, I'm not lactose intolerant but it gave me gas, so it's worse for me than a normal milk. I probably would avoid this drink if they can't make the two adjustments-- 1) make the drink thicker and blend the sesame better so the texture is more homogenous and 2) either use real milk or sub with oat or soy milk...

Yelp
Luckily I made two separate trips here on two totally different weekends. The first visit here was not pleasant as the lady working the register looked and sounded absolutely miserable before I even got to the counter. The line was long and she was not happy about the line. During my second visit here the lady working the register was absolutely happy and friendly and looked like she enjoyed her job despite again the long line in front of me. She was also very helpful in making recommendations and asking questions about customizing the drinks. The menu is vast and the options for customizing are almost endless. I absolutely adore this about this place and love that they have all the modern fixings and options available for your drinks. Prices are pretty fair considering the competition for Boba tea in the area. Parking is sometimes hard to find even though it has a huge shared parking lot with the strip mall. This is a very popular place with a grocery store and other businesses. I would definitely come back here after that second visit. The first visit did not deter me luckily.

Yelp
Love this particular location. They are always very friendly and welcoming. I love the new strawberry flavored drinks!

Yelp
Service was good. They were very nice. Place was clean. I ordered a mango milk tea with grape popping boba. It was good, not soapy. Yes, you can select no tip. Please read the screen thoroughly.

Yelp
The boba at Kung Fu is extraordinary. My young daughter usually orders the oreo tea with boba because it doesn't have any caffeine. Normally, I will order the coconut milk tea or taro milk tea and always enjoy those. I once ordered the thai milk tea with boba, assuming it would be like the orange colored thai iced teas, but it was nothing like it. It didn't look or taste like the thai iced teas. I was a little disappointed, but the boba was still good. The prices are decent for bubble tea in Glenview.

Yelp
I forgot how good this place was that I managed to come out here 3x in the past week. The taro milk tea is delicious! I forgot that you can customize the sweetness levels here so next time I'll have to alter it to 50% sweet. The boba is perfectly chewy without being too soft or too hard and it was also sweetened. I've also tried the yakult green tea and that was refreshing without the extra sweetness. It was a nice guilt-free treat! Most recently, I treated myself to the taro pudding smoothie and that was delicious! The taro flavor was really potent (in a good way) and the pudding was firmer which reminded me of the Filipino leche flan consistency. I was practically drinking an ube flan! I think it might only be seasonal so be sure to try this out before they take it off the menu!

Yelp
This is a nice and convenient as well as newer (about 1.5 years) Kung Fu Tea location, being located in the JB (Joong Boo Market) Plaza strip mall. That means there is plenty of parking, actually on both the main west side as well as the east side of the strip mall, and there's a KFT entrance from either side. I ordered from the mobile app on this occasion and ordered a large Red Bean Wow Milk Strike ($6.25) and don't I sound like an expert now huh? As a heads-up, the current mobile app apparently has more limited choices on sugar level (either 100% or default low?) and ice level (either more or less). I got the drink with 100% sugar and less ice, and it was a nice, refreshing, and satisfying drink with plenty of brown sugar boba as well as red beans, and it wasn't overly sweet. Ordering in person though, you can pick from more choices of sugar level (120%, 100%, 70%, 50%, 30%, and 0%) and ice level (regular, less, and none), just fyi. It wasn't busy at 1pm and I asked the friendly attendants (Adrian and Kaylee) if they wanted to appear in a Yelp review. They were very pleased to do so and asked if they would become famous. I only committed to doing my best and that a Yelp appearance wouldn't hurt!

Yelp
I've had it 3 times since here and everytime I go the boba is soft and the drinks are beautifully crafted. Very delicious

Yelp
As a chain, Kung Fu Tea is one of better ones out there that we've tried. This location has been around for a while now and they've gotten pretty consistent with their drink quality. I usually get a matcha milk cap or the almond milk tea and I've never been disappointed with either. However anytime we've ordered using the app, they more often than not have gotten something wrong with our order, and pretty much only with my wife's drinks. She usually orders her drinks without boba but we'll usually find boba in there, or there's some amount of sugar when we ask for none, so we have to ask them to remake the drinks. Not sure if it's a technical issue from the app but our receipts will show our correct order. It's nothing that will completely stop us from going there, but we have to double-check our orders each time we go. If they can address and correct this, it will be a solid go-to for us.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I ordered the wintermelon green tea. It's a little bitter. I hadn't had wintermelon in years and forgot what it taste like. The Matcha smoothie was good too. Too bad you can't customize the sweetness level like the other teas

Yelp
Met a friend over bubble tea at Kung Fu Tea which is a new addition to the Korean(?) strip mall off of Central and Milwaukee. I'm familiar with it as Kung Fu originates from Vegas. There is quite a bit of variety in the menu but I'd love for the addition of lychee milk tea. I recall in Vegas a custom order being possible as they do make another type of lychee drink but I was told that wasn't possible at this location. I had the coffee milk tea which was good, not anything out of the ordinary, not overtly sweet. Service was quick, there are two entrance into the shop as there is parking on either side. There's plenty of tables available for sitting and I imagine during the school year it will fill up with students studying. Any bubble tea addition is a welcome one to an area which has been run by liquid fusion for years. Is that even bubble tea?!

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Efficient ordering. Clean store. Boba is fresh. They don't have plain Thai milk tea on the menu and KF milk tea is a mix of Thai, oolong, green, and black teas which wasn't my favorite because I didn't love the fruitiness but it's good.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Too many flaws. Not too good. I ordered a mangonada slush. It would of been nice if they mentioned on the in store menu that it was a Mexican style mango drink. I would never have ordered it if I knew they were going to put chili pepper in it. Gross, in my opinion at least. The black boba is not cooked properly. The passion fruit green tea had absolutely no taste of passion fruit. If it didn't have the mango popping boba in it, it would just taste like water.

Yelp
Experience: Was in a mood for some bubble tea and to my surprise, found a Kung Fu Tea location in this area. To top it off, this place is huge! Parking: This specific Kung Fu Tea is located in a strip mall. That being said, parking was fairly easy to find because there was a huge lot attached to it. Unsure how it is during the weekend. Worth: If you want your bubble tea fix, you really cannot go wrong with Kung Fu Tea. This location was huge compared to other sites. Place was clean and the drink is not a disappointment. Had the Taro Milk Green Tea with Mango Popping Boba. Purely amazing.

Yelp
Friendly quick and accurate. I've tried a number of drinks and enjoyed them all. My favorite is coffee milk tea and pina colada slush
google avatar

Maitri S.

Yelp
They have delicious milk tea but my recent favorite has been the Oreo wow flavor. If you like milk and chocolate, highly suggest you check it out. It's the perfect balance of sweet and creamy.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I came here on a rainy Tuesday evening and the place was packed! Even though there was a line, it didn't take us long to make our way to the front to order. Their menu had a wide variety of drinks and toppings. They even had snacks(Pocky and other Korean snacks) for sale on the counter! The cashier was super friendly and saw that we weren't sure what to order and she gave us a few recommendations. We decided to place our trust in the cashier and go with the recommendations and they didn't disappoint. My girlfriend ordered a medium Rosehip Lemonade with Mango Jelly and I ordered a large Winter Melon Milk Green Tea with Crystal Bubbles. While waiting for our drinks, I was amazed by the interior design. I have been to many KFTs before but this one definitely had the nicest decor! For a second I thought I was in an art museum but then the bumping Kpop music knocked me out of my daze. Also, the floors were so clean that my Asian instincts kicked in to remind me to take off my shoes! After receiving our orders, we were able to find a spot to seat ourselves. We sat on the bench side, facing the front counter. It was so comfortable it felt like our butts were on clouds! As soon as I took the first sip of my Winter Melon Milk Green Tea drink, the rain stopped, the sun started to come out, birds were chirping, "I can see clearly now the rain is gone..." played in the back.. ...ok I exaggerated but you get the point, this drink was life-changing. As for the taste, it was delicious and refreshing and the texture was SMOOTH LIKE BUTTER! My girlfriend pretty much shared the same sentiment with her Rosehip Lemonade except she wished had ordered a large. Protip - Always order a large for boba drinks. While relaxing and enjoying our drinks, we noticed that the demographic of the customers was very diverse. People of all ages and backgrounds came in. You know what that means, right? Good boba unites everyone together and brings world peace! When it was finally downtime, we were able to strike up a conversation with the owners. They were a super nice and young couple. They told us a little about their background and about what their mission is at this KFT location. Fun fact, before starting KFT, they were professional dancers. One was a professional C-Walker and the other was a Kpop Idol trainee. MIND = BLOWN. Now, their life mission is to connect with people in the communities of Glenview and provide the highest quality boba drinks! All in all, this was one of the best experiences I have ever had at a boba shop. 10/10 would recommend! Can't wait to go back and try other drinks!

John T.

Yelp
this place sucks i ordered taro milk and they gave me earl grey tea instead and the girl at the counter said that's how they make taro milk tea. WHO THE HELL MAKES TARO MILK TEA WITHOUT ANY TARO. As a taro milk tea connoisseur, i was thoroughly dissapointed with the final results. Telling all of my Asian friends to never come to this trash place again. 1 star.

Yelp
Hello KFT! Welcome to JB Mart! I'm so glad you're here!!! Staff is friendly. Space is huge, clean, and bright! Space is next to Paris Baguette, so grab a baked good and wash it down with some good ol' bubble tea! Their drink menu is extensive and the flavors amazing so far. So far I have tried the Grapefruit green tea (awesome), Mango Creamsicle (AMAZING), and Strawberry Yakult (also amazing). All tastes exactly how I imagined it would! I did not adjust sweetness or ice, but one could customize that if need be. I look forward to trying more of the menu. I know there are a couple of Bubble tea places up north on Milwaukee but I like this place because (they actually close at the posted time, not stop serving bubble tea an hour before - who closes a bubble tea "kitchen" an hour before actual close?). And the other place has been around awhile but.... space is too small and things look run down. I think it's a great idea to have more places that serve bubble tea - especially if it's KFT!!!!

Steve C.

Yelp
I've been to the Evanston Kung Fu Tea and this Kung Fu Tea, and this one is better by far. I got the Coco Cream Wow with bubbles and pudding. Apparently the Coco Cream Wow already comes with bubbles so I ended up with double bubbles taking up half the cup lol. I tried a sip and it literally tasted like syrup, so I went home and added some milk. Much better after that! The service was very good. Quick and friendly. Not much more to say about that. The location itself had a cafe/coffee shop vibe. Very chill and lowkey. Played Kpop in the background. Saw some people studying and others just hanging out at the tables. Overall, 5/5. The bubble thing was my own fault for not reading carefully so no stars deducted there. Don't make the same mistake as I did lol. Taste, service, and vibe were great, so full points!

Yelp
New Kung Fu Tea location next to Joong Boo Market in Glenview. The store is bright and clean. I watched the stuffs working when waiting for my drink. They know what they are doing and are very efficient. I had the seasonal Mango Creamsicle which I liked a lot. Mix of mango and Yakult flavor, sweet with a little of sour taste, popping boba instead of tapioca balls. I'll go back to it and try other drinks. Will update to 5 stars if they are all good.
google avatar

Connie K.

Yelp
I really want to give Kung Fu Tea the benefit of the doubt since it is a newer establishment. Hubby and I've tried this specific location about ~4 times and they've gotten our drinks right 50% of the time. They times that they made mistakes with our drinks they either added ice when we asked for no ice and/or added sugar/boba when no boba was requested. I have a very low sugar tolerance so I always ask for no sugar in my drinks. The first time we got milk tea here it tasted watered down and lacked tea flavor but this seems to have improved over time. I'm also hoping that there will be fewer mistakes when they make our drinks in the future as well....

Yelp
I've tried the bubble tea shops near the area and I keep coming back here. If you're looking for a variety of flavors and topping options, come here Great Job!
google avatar

Bensy J.

Yelp
I liked the service and the options, especially the custom sugar levels. My only issue was the Tapioca balls were sweetened and I don't enjoy that personally. There were many different options but they don't combine flavors such as mango and passion fruit for customization. Would try again but not my go-to for bubble tea.
google avatar

Ahmed A.

Yelp
This place is obviously a chain and the quality varies by location. This kung fu tea location is the best one I've been to. The taro milk tea was one of the best I've had. LI don't know if it's powder based but it was perfect. The employees were patient with all my questions (the menu is lengthy). The ambiance is ok all the locations stopped focusing on dine in once COVID started.
google avatar

Princes Faith B.

Yelp
Their boba is definitely very good but the service? Idk. I'm Asian and most of their employee are asians too but they don't seem to be very friendly. Eh. As long as they don't put dirt or something else on my drink I don't mind the attitude. But their boba is good. I always order cocoa cream wow.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
The pina colada slush was amazing!! We had an issue with a couple of other drinks, but they corrected the issue. Great customer service - we will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Tina S.

Yelp
istg everytome i go there those workers are sweetest people you will ever meet. also the drinks, i will give my everything in my pocket for one of these drinks..
google avatar

Leesa B.

Yelp
Great boba place! I love that you can adjust the sweetness and amount of ice for your drinks! The s'mores was delicious! And, lychee tea! They are plentiful with their boba! No surcharge for using plastic versus cash, unlike the Evanston location! I'll drive a little further to here, on principle alone. Service was super fast and friendly! Busy. Felt safe!

D R.

Yelp
I visited this place today, and it's ok. Nothing special, I've had better in other mid western states like Michigan. Probably won't come back though, not memorable. Portion was a bit small and the taste was average.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Came in today to order three teas; oolong tea, classic tea, and a peach tea. I specificallly ordered no diary, just plain tea. When my order came out, it was wrong (it had dairy in it), so I asked for them to be remade. The girl seemed irritated by having to remake my drink. I wasn't mean or anything but when the new drinks came out, it tasted like the tea had amonia in it or some chemical. If you screw up the tea then just make it with integrity. Never again this location. Oh and when you ask for 30% sugar, it tastes like 90% sugar. You know who you are and what you did.
google avatar

Robin V.

Yelp
Kung Fu Tea lives up to its name because it kicks the competitions ass. Best bobas, no other bobas are as flavorful.
google avatar

Zixuan Z.

Yelp
Ordered a milk cap green tea but there was no milk cap. It was crowded and didn't feel like to ask them redo it and wait again. Rolling meadows location is better.

Leen A.

Yelp
ALWAYS MESSING UP MY DRINKS. workers are so slow and deaf! They always get it wrong or don't add something or make it gross. I don't recommend this place unless you want a headache and complaining kids because they can't differentiate between the words popping boba and tapioca. Also seating is crowded and overwhelmingly annoying
google avatar

S. R.

Yelp
Visited twice in one day because it's just that good. The teas here taste crisp and well made. Compared to other bubble tea locations I have tried this one is by far my favorite. I appreciate the effort the staff here puts into every order and I plan to return to try their other drinks. Thank you!
google avatar

Ray Z.

Yelp
This was the first Kung Fu Tea I ever went to! I ordered the Mango Slush and my little sister order strawberry milk tea with strawberry boba, but they gave her taro boba. The staff were super nice, and I got a picture with the sign on the inside of the store. I would definitely go back again.
google avatar

Amani R.

Yelp
Very delicious! Great customer service. I didn't like the taste of passion fruit green tea boba and they happily exchanged it.
google avatar

Suzie N.

Yelp
The teas are ok. Have many choices for a suburb area. It's a hit or miss with the people who make your tea and take your orders. Sometimes they could be rude and correct me, sometimes they're super nice.
google avatar

Yahaa T.

Yelp
Amazing customer service and such a cute place. The cocoa cream tea is my absolute favorite. Definitely a gem, is going to be me and my husbands new go to place. Was about $10 for tow medium teas, he got a passion fruit tea and it was delightful as well. The girls were so sweet explaining the drinks and taking care of us.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
I had to throw my drink away. The milk tasted awful like it was expired. Asked for a replacement and the owner was extremely rude and unaccommodating. Unacceptable customer service, especially for the prices. Avoid this place.

Jael M.

Yelp
This was my first time coming here and I like the vibes that they went for and the place is spectacular but I'm sad to they messed up my order I specifically said for the mango popping bubbles in a Mango green tea and they didn't put them in my drink they printed in the label that goes on the cup by I'm guessing they don't read it
google avatar

Saquib T.

Yelp
King fu tea is a really good place to get boba and I would highly recommended it for all of you guys once again it is really great
