On the Grid : Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao

"In Queensboro Hill of Flushing, Kung Fu XLB is a bus ride over from the 7 train. We know everyone has their preferences when it comes to their soup dumplings, or Xiaolongbao, but hands down, this place is our favorite. The restaurant is owned by a lovely couple who has another location in Manhattan called, The Bao. We prefer the one in Flushing because it's on a block with other hidden gems and this location feels like home. We recommend starting off with the cold appetizers-wood ear mushroom salad or wine chicken, and also trying a bowl of noodle soup. You won't be disappointed." - QNS MADE

16 Top Chinese Soup Dumplings to Try in NYC - Eater NY

"This delightful spot with plenty of blonde wood chairs is one of a small collection of Taiwanese restaurants just north of the Long Island Expressway. The XLB here are carefully made with a particularly rich gravy, and don’t be deterred that only one of the crab versions of the dumplings has a wad on top: The rest have a generous quantity mixed inside with the pork." - Robert Sietsema, Stefanie Tuder, Erika Adams

Google
tiny spot in flushing but the dim sum is popping!! everything was so good, i don’t think you can go wrong here. only downside is that it’s cash only. i was teaching a friend how to use chopsticks here and an elderly chinese lady at the table next to us said that i held chopsticks correctly & that i was doing a good job teaching my friend 😭 it was the sweetest and perhaps most validating thing ever

Google
This is definitely good quality soup dumplings. The quality of the skin is thick and the soup will not come out. The was decent. The portion of size was not very huge. It's good for one person. The food was little oily and salty, no need to add additional sauce. Prepare to drink a lot water. The staff is friendly! The black truffle was one of my favorite soup dumpling!

Google
Had a wonderful dinner with our 4 person family. Minus a mistake with the milk tea and there being not being alcohol; this was the best soup dumplings I’ve had in flushing. Yes, better than Nan Xiang. Food was well prepared and seasoned. Extremely nice portions, flavor, texture, service, price! Will return!

Google
Had some of the best dim sums and dumplings ever. The crab dim sums had a subtle garlicky taste and melted in the mouth. The chicken dumplings in hot and sour sauce were amazing too! The place also serves complimentary hot tea! But they accept cash only, so make sure you have cash on you before you visit.

Google
I would have given them 10 stars if Google reviews had the option because it was sooo good. I went to NY from Germany and made an effort to travel to Flushing from Manhatten just to eat their dumplings and I am glad that I did. They were the best and Their staff is so nice, soft spoken and very helpful in describing the taste and content of food before I ordered. Highly recommend going here♥️♥️

Google
Another Chinese restaurant gem! The Xiao Long Bao are deliciously satisfying! Shredded Beef with Chili Pepper has that right amount of spiciness that's not overwhelming. Ma Po Tofu was on point with White rice.

Google
Came here over the weekend. We were in the mood for soup dumplings and after hearing so much about this place we decided to give it a try. The soup dumplings were very flavorful, a little smaller than I'm used to but I really enjoyed them. I'd definitely have them again. They also have a chocolate/Nutella version but I was too full to try them, next time! We also had the pork belly, which was very good and the beef and scallion pancakes. Good menu and small cozy place. Really enjoyed it.

Google
I got a takeout order of the crab meat soup dumplings and the vegetable dumplings. I cannot comment on the atmosphere of the place or the staff since I got takeout. The xiao long bao were good, the prices are pretty standard for a good restaurant. I wish there had maybe been a bit more soup in them, but they were good. The vegetable dumplings were actually my favorite, I liked that they had a slightly thicker chewy skin. The filling of them was also really well seasoned and enjoyable, not too mushy but also not overly dry or crunchy.

Yelp
My favorite soup dumpling place in NY! Came here multiple times already. It is located in an area where parking is pretty convenient along the streets outside. We don't usually make a reservation and never had a problem being seated. This place is cash only though so make sure to bring enough cash when coming! It's a cozy restaurant, but I would say plenty of space for each table. Our servers are usually very efficient. The food is amazing. The soup dumplings have the perfect amount of soup and filling inside, and the skin is thin but chewy. There are multiple flavors are we have tried them all at this point and they are all so delicious. Their pork belly with quail eggs is amazing too, and their beef noodle soup and their garlic eggplant. I don't think I've had a dish here that was not great. The prices are super affordable. Would recommend this anyday!

Yelp
Love this place, very quaint! Pork xiao long bao (4/5): The soup dumpling is juicy and full of flavor and the skin is chewy but not too thick. Mixed with the salty and vinegary dipping sauce they have, it is satisfying. Nothing special however, but tasty. Udon noodles (5/5): These stir-fried udon noodles were incredible. It's rich, umami, salty, subtly sweet and the udon noodles have the perfect chew. I could also taste the wok hei, and the unique browning of the noodles, it is so delicious. Chocolate xiao long bao (6/5): First time having this and it's like finding treasure. The hot chocolate just oozes out and melts in your mouth, it is heavenly. This place also adds banana inside, so you get the fruitiness and sweetness of the banana to perfectly complement the chocolate. Amazing!

Yelp
Stopped by on a chilly March weekday lunch time to get some XLB to go. Google map landed me just short of the place, so got a bit confused if the green sign place was it. But Kung Fu was clearly marked on the store left of there:) Got 2 orders of Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao (6 dumplings for $9). Left one order for grandma during our visit, and was too full to eat at the time. When finally got to nuke it and try it that night, OMG. This stuff was delicious! Wife and kid said best they ever had, better than din tai fung in LA. I loved it since it was bigger than din tai stuff, and had great fillings. The dipping sauce took it to the top! Awesome XLB!

Yelp
Came just to try the soup dumplings. Skin was thicker than preferred. Decent soup, but pork and crab flavor didn't stand out. Easily accessible by car since it's away from flushing main street, but wouldn't go back otherwise.

Yelp
The food is good. Nothing exceptional. The chocolate xiao long bao is something new to try but probably won't get it again. Their service is average middle of the road. Can get busy at time. The place is clean and nice to sit and have a meal with friends.

Yelp
This place is going to be a strong pass for me the food they serve is slightly better than making it yourself at home. The prices are exorbitantly high, and the quality that you get is just not where it should be the soup dumplings are mediocre at best. I feel that making them at home in my own bamboo steamer might actually be better than ordering from here portion sizes are extremely small for the price you pay the only good dish we got were the pan fried steamed dumplings. Everything else was not worth it. The service itself was very good. The staff were very pleasant and nice to talk to. However, the menu was very limited so their recommendations were not very good The restaurant itself is small. It is well kept, although there are signs that they are not busy since there is stuff all over the place on tables that are not use. All in all there are much better dumpling places than this one, if you're in the mood for dumplings and have no other choice, I would still not come here.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. I recommend the crispy pan-fried noodles with pork, the dan dan noodles, and the scallion pancake. My bf always gets their spicy beef noodle soup. The best Xiao Long Bao in Queens. The dumpling skin is thin & precise. Comes with ginger & vinegar. They offer different variations of soup dumplings, such as truffle flavored soup dumplings and spicy soup dumplings.

Yelp
CASH ONLY. Every morsel of food was delicious. I ordered the duck vermicelli soup with scallion pancake and the colorful soup dumplings. The scallion pancake was delicate and flaky. The dipping sauce was too tart for my preference, but still good. The duck vermicelli soup was amazing. It was packed with flavor. The noodles were cooked perfectly: soft and slightly chewy. The duck blood cubes were soft and not overly iron in taste. The soup dumplings were piping hot and soft, but enough textural integrity to not break through. I did not particularly like the green (veggie) dumpling, nor care too much for the crabmeat dumpling, and the black dumpling didn't have any discerning flavor, but overall good dumplings. Tip on eating soup dumplings: hold dumpling on soup spoon, pierce hole to vent out hot steam, blow, then enjoy. Service was attentive. One glance and help was on the way.

Yelp
I found myself at Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao with some colleagues for lunch. I had not heard of this place beforehand, but one of my brothers had been with good things to say. Additionally, I love soup dumplings and noodles so this spot seemed to be right up my alley. That being said, I was super excited to try them out. KFXLB has a simple exterior which continues inside. The dining room is rectangular-shaped with a decent amount of tables in relation to its size. The menu has a good variety of dishes, though we were mostly interested in soup dumplings and noodles. We decided to get a few dishes to share: regular dumplings, scallion pancake, two different kinds of noodles, and three varieties of soup dumplings (pork, crab, and truffle). Everything was really tasty. I might be biased because I love carbs, but I really thought everything we tried was fresh and high quality. All of the soup dumplings were delicious, but my favorite had to be the crab. We were each served soy sauce and fresh ginger on the side which was a nice complement to the dumplings. Service was quick which was great since we needed to get back to work. Overall, I was super impressed with KFXLB; their offerings were tasty and fresh, and I would definitely return to try more of their menu.

Yelp
This review is mainly on the Soup Dumplings We frequent Kung Fu for years and always love their Soup Dumplings. In fact, this is our go to joint for the dumplings. On our recent visit we found the soup dumplings were different. Not sure if it was a one off night or they have a different chef making them. The dumplings do not taste the same, definitely not as good and the dough/skin is not as thin anymore.

Yelp
Was so great before the pandemic! Came back to see how it was doing. The place is the same very clean and adequate seating. Service was alright, came with a party of 4 and even though there were only two other parties in the restaurant no one came to fill up our water through out the hour we were there. Two stars off just because of the food :( beef scallion pancake used to be HUGE but now it is minuscule compared! Their Kung Fu XLB's weren't as thin wrapped and plumped with fillings as before as well :( The previous pictures were a testament to the 5 star reviews however it seems that the place has declined in food quality.

Yelp
Summary: CASH ONLY. Decent XLB in the area. Braised beef noodle soup is a must! Very flavorful broth and beef is very tender! Fast service, food came out within 15 mins. Visited this restaurant for the 1st time with my husband the other day. Was planning on going to another XLB restaurant but stumbled upon this one instead and it did not disappoint. It's small little restaurant on Main Street in Flushing away from downtown Flushing. We started off with two orders of the crab meat XLB and one order of the regular pork XLB. My husband had 1 crab meat and 1 pork XLB order to himself, while I had 1 crab meat XLB and tried the braised beef noodle soup. First, let's talk about the XLB's. The crab meat XLB was okay, not a lot of crab meat compared to other places but the taste in the broth was definitely there. My husband said that the pork XLB was more worth than the crab meat XLB due to the flavor difference and the lack of crab you get. Now, for the braised beef noodle soup. I gotta say it was definitely very tasty! The broth was spot on and the beef was so tender! Although the menu marked it as spicy, it was not as spicy as expected for me. I'd definitely come back for the braised beef noodle soup alone! As mentioned above, they are a cash only establishment. Street parking. Wait staff is attentive and service was very fast!

Yelp
If you like soup dumplings, these are among the best! There is a decent amount of soup and the dumpling is thin and not doughy. I can easily eat a whole order of 6. When think of Asian food I think of Xiao Long Bao. We also had the green bean and spicy beef meals as was scallion pancakes. All wonderful! But the best are the chocolate xiao long bao. Absolutely delicious! Only problem for some is that it's cash only.

Yelp
When we ventured out to Flushing, Queens, we had a nice early dinner before we headed back to Manhattan. This spot was on my list for a while, so we decided to go check it out. They had two igloo-style outdoor seating, with the entrance to the igloo wide open, making it safer with nice airflow. They do have indoor seating as well, seemed nice and clean. Not too large of a space though. We decided to sit outdoor for the fun igloo experience. We ordered one of our favorite dish, Mapo Tofu. It had three red pepper icon, which means "very spicy" according to their menu. With their price tag of $13.95, we were hoping it would be a nice portion, and it was quite large! A good shareable size. Packed with flavor, with a good amount of spicy-ness, not too crazy. Then again, I might've avoided the super hot pepper in the middle... We also ordered Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao, six pork soup dumplings. The wrap was nice and thin, and the dumplings were pretty good size, not too big nor small. They were really good! Last but not least, Braised Pork Belly with Quail Eggs. We asked for buns, and we got four buns on the side for additional $3. Again, the portion was shareable size. Pork belly was tender and moist, melt in your mouth. Quail egg added more substance and flavor. The tangy sauce was tasty, but it had such strong flavor, you didn't need too much of of it. We made our own pork bao buns, which was fun. We had a really nice dinner here, the staffs were friendly and polite, he took a good care of us. We were very full and happy. They are CASH ONLY, so make sure to bring some cash with you.

Yelp
Came in town for a quick bite to eat and was not disappointed Great service , great atmosphere and amazing soup dumpling, filled with flavor.

Yelp
The xiao long bao was very good however the prices of the other dishes and the quality of the other dishes were terrible. The waiters did not come by one time to ask how the food was and treated my aunt and uncle poorly. $68 for two dishes and two things of dumplings. And charge for rice on two dishes that should come with rice. Rice hard and dry. Mao po tofu super spicy and no pork. Green beans and pork minimal size of dish and hardly any pork. Many better options to eat at within 3 blocks of here. Better food and service to be found elsewhere. Did see many people come in and order dumplings only. Also they do not take credit card for a place charging upscale prices for average food they should.

Yelp
Mmmm...soup dumplings on a cold day. We dropped into Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao, which is a mile south of downtown Flushing ( to avoid the crazy traffic there). Ambience: they are still in full pandemic mode. They check your Vaccination card, take your temperature at the door, and there are partitions separating every table. They even have two tables outside on the sidewalk enclosed in a plastic igloo. There is no parking lot, so you need to find street parking Food: we ordered Chicken with broccoli - very tender chicken cooked perfectly with Al dente broccoli 5/5 Ma Po Tofu - well seasoned comfort food 4/5 General Tso Chicken - fresh, but a little much breading. 3/5. Beef with spicy peppers - nicely shredded julienne style. Nice attention to detail 4/5 Scallion Pancake - crispy and crunchy, but was a little greasy. 3/5 Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao - a little underwhelming with the small amount of broth in the Bao. If this is your specialty, then you need to bring your A game. 3/5 Service - cash only place. Staff is quick and attentive.

Yelp
We went around 2:30 pm on Wednesday. With a larger party, party of six, I think it was a perfect time to go. There was only one other table. This place has the best XLB we know of NYC and Philly. The skin is thin. The broth is full of flavor. The meat is soft inside. The ginger is thinly sliced in the dipping sauce. The XLB flavors are all good and creative. This is our go to place for XLB. Would like to try the shredded gourd XLB next time. The garlic cucumbers are refreshing even when it was cold out. Service at that time was attentive and excellent.
google avatar

Steph W.

Yelp
The xiao long bao here was perfect! The meat is wonderfully seasoned with a lovely broth and soft skin ratio. We also ordered the Dan Dan noodles, which did not have very much meat but appropriate for the price point. Overall, thought that the service was attentive and it was a great, affordable meal. Clean establishment.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in South Flushing. I went recently with a party of 7 and enjoyed all the dishes we tried. I thought the soup dumplings were reasonably priced and definitely more for those who prefer a slightly thicker skin which I like. The crab dumplings were standard. I didn't taste much of the crab but did feel the texture in the meat stuffing. The black truffle dumplings weren't bad either although the truffle flavor is on the lighter side. But you do get a hint of the flavor in both the soup and the filling. The spicy wontons and crab tofu were also excellent appetizers. In terms of dishes, the pea shoots were good but the Shanghai pan fried noodles was too spicy. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Boiled Fish Filet in Chili Oil. I thought it was amazing with just the right level of spice, tender fish fillet pieces and even some veggies as well. We ended on the Laba Brown Sugar Rice Cakes which were perfectly crisped and a pleasant way to end the meal. I thought their service was very attentive and the space was simple and felt like a local dine in restaurant which was nice.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings). This place usually hits this spot. Their soup dumplings have thin skin and their soup has a good amount of flavor. I feel like they added new items to their menu. I tried their Garlic Crispy Ribs. It was indeed crispy and pretty tender. The Pan Fried bun was a little soggier than I would like. What surprised me was the Sea-bass Dry Pot. I usually can't take spice like that, but this had such a good flavor and kick. I couldn't stop eating it. You definitely need to eat it with rice. At one point I just pour the oil in my rice and ate that. I would be careful eating this. There's a lot of little bones. I would get this again!
google avatar

Mylo D.

Yelp
Definitely a righteous favor kick that lives up to its name. Kids loved them so kept ordering more .. and more. So full but so worth it. Colored soup dumplings kinda novel. Dan Dan noodles and duck blood vermicelli soup also very good.
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
Hate to give them only two stars because the food was good. I like that they offer lunch specials and they do really delicious shanghai noodles. However, charging $4 for a can of coke is absolutely outrageous. This is Flushing, Queens not Midtown, Manhattan. Cash only is also annoying.
google avatar

Kelly Y.

Yelp
PRO TIP: CASH ONLY Came here with a party of 3 around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon and didn't have to wait long for our seats. Vax cards are checked as well as temperature when you walk in for pre cautions. We sat down at one of the booths and waited a bit for someone to attend to us... had to really try for the waiter's attention but there was also one person to attend to 6+ tables... We ordered 3 orders of XLB, beef tripe, and shredded bamboo. The order felt like it took forever... I guess because the kitchen was waiting for a large order before they starting steaming the entire batch? I don't know but felt like the wait was forever. XLB very delectable but the salted egg isn't something I would order again. It was more of an "Oh okay.. I taste the salted egg" but it didn't blow my mind away. I did however, enjoy the original XLB and the spicy XLB - both of which I would recommend. I remember trying the nutella XLB a while back and finding it very weird as it's chocolate inside a XLB. Might be great for dessert but for regular dining? probably not. Overall, 100% recommend for XLB when you don't want to go into the heart of Flushing to avoid traffic. But be prepared for longer waits when it's busier and bring cash!!
google avatar

Cheryl L.

Yelp
Located on the less busy area of Main Street, Kung fu is a xlb place I always enjoy. It is pretty easy to find street parking or metered parking right in front. What really impresses me each time I eat here is the fast service. They also have banana Nutella soup dumplings which I find super decadent and unique! For this visit: Wontons in spicy sauce - I was really craving the peanut sauce + chili oil combo but this was a bit underwhelming. The sauce was abundant but the wontons were very small and were a bit bland to me. Just felt like something was missing. Soup dumplings - pretty good. I've been to a few soup dumplings places where they carelessly place the dumplings, causing inevitable tears in the skin and loss of the broth but these were thin skinned yet sturdy! The broth is not too fatty either. Braised pork belly - favorite of the night!! Melt in your mouth pork belly and goes perfect with rice. It does become a bit fatty with the quail eggs so I recommend sharing this with someone to reduce guilt. Overall, a convenient spot with solid menu items that I'll be returning to!
google avatar

Alexa L.

Yelp
Thin skin XLB and very tasty. I am disappointed that their menu got smaller and how they do not offer many of them same items. However, they did add some new items like - skewers. Some staff also did not know what they had on display at their refrigerated section in the front. I ordered the spicy beef tripe and they said they didn't have it
google avatar

Sandy T.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite spot for xlb and other Shanghai dishes but after the new "renovations" everything is not the same. Menu shrunk, they took out many staple dishes like the crispy beef and the rice cake noodles. Their xlb meat portion is less than the size of a quarter and the crab meat is just the coloring. It didn't taste like the usual recipe with the thin skin and a plump dumpling full of flavorful soup. I'm not sure where the renovations were made but def not in the dining area, now they have weird patches of paint on the wall where they used markers to write some Chinese characters on and other drawings. Usually on a Saturday night, they would be packed with a crowd waiting for tables but it was not the case here. There were hardly any locals eating here.
google avatar

Valerie B.

Yelp
Still love this restaurant. Not sure if they've changed owners or something but they slimmed down the menu by a ton. Unless they have a separate one for lunch, no more lunch specials. That's a shame because they were a fantastic deal. Also I really miss their cauliflower dish. Tonight we had a beef dish that was fantastic. We also had the green beans that had great flavor. Would have liked more pork. The Xiao long nap are still amazing! The best around by far. And the dessert ones are so tasty.
google avatar

Catherine Y.

Yelp
I've been hearing rumors of how much better the soup dumplings have become again. Of course, I had to go try for myself. Unfortunately, they have not changed much since new ownership. The skin could be thinner but no complaints on the flavor.
google avatar

Kitty H.

Yelp
It was nearby so we went. Food and service was ok. Price is overpriced for the portion served. Shanghai pan fry noodle 上海粗炒 $15 tasted the best. Scallion pancake for $7 was way overpriced for the quality.
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
Still really good. Rice cakes are back on the menu but I think they used to have a lot more wish they brought back some more items. They did a nice job with the renovation making it look slightly nicer to match the food and somehow fit in more big tables. Food is better than Nan xiang. Soup dumplings healthier and skin thinner and better than Nan xiang. Has almost a fresher taste to all the dishes because it's a smaller kitchen. Everything comes out hot whereas at Nan xiang seems they have gotten too big. Also got the stir fried udon and my boyfriend like their version better than Nan xiang. Really love Shanghainese food since I'm half Shanghainese. Will be coming back more often. Skip the general tso's. The fish was perfectly fried and felt very fresh. They used sea bass. Worth the price for the fish !

Yelp
Located on a quieter stretch of Main Street, Kung Fu XLB (功夫小籠包) sits along a strip mall type cluster of other restaurants, making it way too easy to miss. Looks alone don't tell the story of its greatness, as few would assume that this little spot is in fact one of the best soup dumpling establishments in NYC. As already noted, KFXLB Is fairly small. Back in pre-pandemic days, this place was packed so hard that being cramped was just part of the experience. Now things are generally a little more mellow, but like any eatery, they're hitting the delivery trail hard. I think that if they can manage to preserve their food in takeout / delivery form, then they're doing something that most Shanghainese places simply can't. That alone is winning. In terms of the actual soup dumplings themselves, they're fantastic. The smooth texture and pillowy soft skin makes for an incredible bite every time. I think their pork ones are the best ones, but the crab is also pretty stellar. I haven't found too many places that do it as well as they do, which practically puts Kung Fu XLB nearly in a league of its own.

Yelp
So where do I start here? I've tried Nan Xing Long Bao like one of the more recent reviews under me and I wasn't really a big fan. I saw a Mikey Chen video recommending Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao and wow! This man has never been wrong! I'm just a white dude from Fresh Meadows with a love of Asian food so I can't really use the words authentic or compare it to food elsewhere but WOW! This was the easiest five star review I have written, I came here on my birthday and was not disappointed at all. So to start with the service was fast, they had checked to see if they were full and offered to put me at a table outside which was very clean and isolated, I'm pretty sensitive to heat and it felt like a nice little bubble of fresh air on this 83 degree day. Despite being busy on the inside they came outside to check and get my order in a reasonable timeframe and made sure that I had everything I needed to enjoy the delicious food here. So to start with I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles and Loofah Xiao Long Bao. The Dan Dan Noodles were really delicious and aldente, they had a nice kick to them at least for me but I couldn't stop eating them!!! I attached a picture of them down below before I mixed them wow they look beautiful! Next up we have the Loofah Xiao Long Bao which was so delicious I couldn't be bothered to take a picture of it, just wow they were wonderful! I didn't even feel like I was eating soup dumplings because they were so refreshing. I can absolutely see why these were recommended. I left feeling fully satisfied but decided to try doordashing them since it was getting late and I was feeling comfortable so I ended up ordering again! I ordered the scallion pancake, Kung Fu Xia Long Bao, and Loofah Xiao Long Bao and all of them were wonderful! I FORGOT TO TRY THE PORK BUNS everyone always raves about them!! Oh well, there's always next time. Thank you for the pleasant service, great food, and safe conditions allowing other New Yorkers such as myself to go out and enjoy ourselves safely. I will be back!

Yelp
My fella had been going here for years and would brag saying they had the best soup dumplings in NYC. After taking him to my go to in Chinatown (Shanghai Cafe - Mott Street) he took me here and hands down they were THE BEST I had ever had. Everything we ordered here was always fresh and amazing! Fast forward to June, we had just returned from spending 4 months in Asia and we were looking forward to our many staples here. Soups dumplings, Scallion Pancakes with Slices Beef and Braised Pork Belly with Quail Egg. Braised Pork Belly with Quail Egg was no longer in the menu The Scallion Pancakes with Slices Beef was soooooo greasy. Couldn't even eat it all. The Black Truffle Xiao Long Bao was new on the menu and they were okay. It was definitely pork but couldn't really smell truffle and definitely didn't taste like truffle. The Spicy Pork Soup Dumpling were okay, nothing bad but not like they used to be. Needless to say, not my favorite soups dumpling place anymore. If you have a recommendation anywhere in NYC let me know. All in all, I'm not sure what happened while we were away, maybe a new chef, maybe new owners, maybe both ...but the food is just okay and some dishes (like the scallion pancakes) are gross so we won't be coming back again and I will unfortunately not be recommending this place to anyone anymore. RIP another great NYC restaurant

Yelp
Review for takeout experience. I haven't had the opportunity to dine at Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao yet even thought I passed by this restaurant many times when I take the bus to Flushing. Back in January I saw that this place was finally listed on DoorDash and I ordered takeout a few times before they stopped delivering to my neighborhood recently. I definitely recommend their Dan Dan noodles and the spiciness level is just right for me. I also enjoyed the shredded beef with bamboo, fried rice with snow cabbage and pork, and the rice cake with snow cabbage and pork. I didn't order their soup dumplings because I think it won't taste as great by the time the food gets delivered to my apt. I have seen YouTuber Mike Chen raving about their soup dumplings, so I'll give it a try one day when in-door dining is 100% back.

Yelp
Kung Fu has become our go to for soup dumplings after Nan Xiang reopened. The dumpling skins are so much thinner, & the broth is light and flavorful! My boyfriend and I usually get 2 orders of the regular soup dumplings, a shanghai pan fried udon, & and an order of pan fried dumplings. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because the soup dumplings can be a little inconsistent. We had 2 separate visits where they were kind of dry and didn't have much broth, but overall it's still solid. Cash only, vaccination cards required, & parking is not too bad around the area! Service is friendly & fast!

Yelp
First time trying this place and my whole family loved it here! The foods tasted so clean, not heavy, and so well seasoned (but not salty). Our favorites were house xiao long bao and the truffle version (super thin skins and juicy), delightful okra and surf clam salad, chongquing spicy crispy chicken, house fried rice, and stir fried bok choy. Dan dan mein and spicy beef noodle soup had good flavors but can have a bit more improvements. Service was attentive, seeing a lot of older Asian customers coming here so that's a good sign. My parents commented, "why is Chinese food in NYC is so much better than Boston? LOL" Gotta love the people that commented, "oh been dining here for many years but food is bad this time, one star." Seriously, where were the 5 stars when the previous 10 times were good? Doesn't seem fair and just make you look bad. Also, you can't buy much w/ $100 at groceries lately, no point to complain about price when dining out. Better to support local businesses than clicking on Amazon prime!

Yelp
cash only!!! location is pretty deep in queens for me but i assume all the queens locals love it here. the soup dumplings definitely are the best ive had, ever. the skin is so thin but still doesnt pop easily when you pick it up. garlic spare ribs and the pork belly are also fantastic. bummed they dont offer the quail eggs with the pork belly dish anymore. now its just plain pork belly.

Yelp
Solely ventured to Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao to indulge in their xiao long bao based off of Mikey Chen's recommendation. Thank you strictly dumplings. Kung Fu definitely delivers. They only accept cash, but there's an atm next door. Can't wait to come back and try their other items.

Yelp
Maybe I came on an off day, all my takeout dishes tasted sweet. I could understand ordering takeout my Dumplings might get a little cold; but its the vinegar sauce that tasted too sweet. The stir-fried noodles also tasted sweet as well. It's distinctively odd with the taste being not I'm used to. There are a few dine-in tables and they do offer outdoor dining a well. Will give this place another try someday.

Yelp
Soooooo freaking good!! Xiao Long Bao is definitely the MUST to order. Plus we tried their Pork Belly Sesame Bun (probably it has slightly different name on the menu) and Sliced Pork belly on the rice I would recommend them to every pork belly lover! The taste is like braised pork explode in your mouth. It is very very very tasty!

Yelp
COVID report: takeout only at the moment (and possibly local delivery, I'm not sure). The food is amazing! I tried the pan fried pork dumplings (these were my favorite), as well as the Kung fu Xiao long bao (fab), and Dan Dan noodle (amazing). Cash only.

Yelp
Been hearing about this place quite some time and we were craving soup dumplings, so decided to finally make the trip out to try Kung Fu XLB! Street parking is pretty easy to find in the area, and FYI, they only accept cash. The interior is clean and cozy, and warm tea was served as we were seated. *Hot and Sour Soup - not sure why, but it's minimum order of 2 per table. This was a let down. It was wayyyyyy too spicy in the bad kind of way that leaves your throat burning. The first spoonful of it had me reeling for a few minutes at how it felt like my throat was punched. The texture/viscosity was great and the soup was pretty packed with ingredients, just a shame that all I got flavorwise was spoon after spoon of white pepper powder. I hoped it would get better as it cooled a bit but unfortunately neither of us could finish our soups. *Colorful Soup Dumplings - couldn't decide which flavor to get so why not a sampling of all of them? The skin on these dumplings were great. Chewy, thin, but did not tear. The flavor of the soup base in these were incredible! One order comes with 6 flavors: salted egg yolk, truffle, chicken, plain, crabmeat, and veggie. Honestly, the individual flavors don't stand out that much though, so if I were to order again, I'd just get the regular or crabmeat ones. I really liked the pre-prepared soy/vinegar sauce in particular, tangy with just a hint of sweetness to cut through the fattiness. *Lotus Root Fries- these were addicting! Really light crispy exterior and the lotus root itself made for an interesting texture. It was topped with a spice mix that had us going back for more after every bite. *Wontons in Spicy Sauce- smaller portion than expected, but very flavorful. Peanut, soy sauce, and chili oil. Can't go wrong with this combo Add-on order because the portions were rather small for the price and not that filling *Dan Dan Noodles - Minced meat with greens and sauce over chewy noodles. I really liked the texture of the noodles. There was a numbing aftertaste to this dish due to the chili oil but it wasn't unpleasant. Just note that it does have spice (not indicated on the menu). *Milk Tea with Ice Jelly- much-needed after all the oiliness and spice from the meal. Tea taste was on the milder end but paired with the ice jelly, this drink was refreshing and cut through the food. Overall, some highlights and some lowlights, but the meal left us wanting a bit more. We were both physically full, but as my SO said, ""there's a flavor profile missing from the food and it made me feel like I didn't eat a full meal"". Reflecting back on it, maybe it was the choice of food ordered that led to the meal feeling a bit monotonous in flavor, so I am rounding up from 3.5 stars for the clean environment and attentive service.

Yelp
Ordered: Kung Fu Xiao Long Bao ($7.95), Crab Meat Xiao Long Bao ($8.95), Shanghai Shao Mai ($7.95) Consistently the best pork soup dumplings and shao mai in the city! Each XLB was full of flavor and bursting with soup. I preferred the original over the crab meat, but I'd recommend trying both if it's your first time here. The Shanghai Shao Mai was also delicious! The sticky rice was chewy and all the flavors came together beautifully. Although there's no shortage of XLBs in the city, I always find myself coming back here. Already looking forward to next time!

Yelp
Who doesn't love Xiao Long Bao (XLB)?!?! Especially when it's done well, like the ones here at Kung Fu XLB! They offer 8 different types of XLB, along with many other delicious dishes. Something for everyone! They even have a dessert XLB! The food here is always fresh, delicious and made with love. Great service & hospitality; although the lady in front of house can be a little rough. lol (We attempted to look at a menu and she snatched it out of our hands and said "that's not the menu!!"...Huhh?? It looked exactly like their menu, and why was it there if it isn't their menu?!?!). Also, they are Cash Only! This restaurant is on the small side, so br prepared to wait for a table during peak time. My party of 4 came on a Sunday at 2pm, and the wait time was about 20 minutes. (Note that they ask you to wait outside. This may be an unpleasant wait when the weather gets colder). They also have two pods in front of the restaurant, for outdoor dining (see my photos). Each pod seats 4. Proof of Vax/ID and temperatures are checked upon entry to the restaurant. No parking lot; just street parking (some metered). Today, four of us shared the below dishes: -- Kung Fu XLB ($7.95/6 pcs): Classic pork XLB. These were terrific. The dough was super thin but not so thin that they fall apart when you grab it from the steamer. This is important since nobody likes their XLB to puncture before you get it onto your spoon! Add a dab of vinegar & ginger and enjoy! Be careful not to burn your tongue with the hot soup inside! -- Salted Egg Yoke XLB ($8.95/6 pcs): These were good. We had never had these before, so were very curious to try these. We were expecting actual pieces of salted egg yoke in them but were a little disappointed there weren't any. However, there were subtle flavors of the blended salted egg yoke throughout the pork XLB. -- Scallion Pancakes ($4.95/6 pcs): Classic scallion pancake; albeit on the small side. This was very good and I'd like to try the ones wrapped with beef next time! -- Pan fried shrimp dumplings ($9.95/5 pcs): These dumplings were perfectly fried and delicious. -- Pan fried noodles w.shredded pork ($12.95): This dish was great. The noodles were perfectly crunchy. The sauce was tasty and full of pork; albeit a tad bit too salty for my taste. -- Chocolate XLB ($6.95/4 pcs):. Yes, Chocolate XLBs!! My 7 yr old niece's face LIT UP when we read this on the menu...I'm talkin' super raised eye brows and big round eyes!! Haha We just HAD to order these. My niece liked these so much that we ended up ordering an extra order. These XLBs were filled with chocolatey goodness and even had a slice of banana in it! A nice dessert XLB to end our meal! But I do have a request: Can they make strawberry XLBs?!?! It would be awesome if they could add that to their menu! lol All in all, a very nostalgic and satisfying meal! So why 4 stars and not 5? Although all the XLBs were terrific, they were small in size. The filling inside was also on the small side. For the prices they charge, there should either be more pieces (8 vs 6 pcs) or they should have a heartier amount of filling inside. If they could improve on this, this is easily a 5 star restaurant. Recommended and we shall be back!

Yelp
Great place to go for Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings)! Delicious food and great for family style. I would recommend trying their soup dumplings. I prefer their pork over the crab ones. I also really like their other dishes including the braised pork belly and the fried rice with shredded pork. These are great when paired with the XLB. They have decent service and both indoor and outdoor seating. Back in the day they used to pack this place to the brim, and it was really packed. Nowadays they enforce social distancing and contract tracing. Pricing is a bit on the higher side, but still worth a try!
