"Tucked away in a small village in southern Costa Rica, Kurà Design Villas is an eight-suite eco-friendly resort where the hummingbirds outnumber the people and a large row of solar panels in the pool area heat shower water and light lamps throughout the resort. In true design hotel style, everything is tastefully done. The eight suites feature minimalist open-floor plans with glass walls, stone showers, and sleek wood platform beds, plus spacious private terraces with oversize hammocks overlooking the land and sea. Though the resort doesn’t cater to the budget crowd, your money goes a long way. A daily shuttle takes guests to and from the beach and off-site tours arranged through the hotel’s concierge; breakfast is complimentary; and when the weather is less than ideal, the resort organizes rainy-day activities that include cooking demonstrations and excursions to the local food market. When the sun re-emerges, don’t miss sightings of colorful birds as well as the occasional whale’s tail from the infinity pool. By Megan Eileen McDonough"

The true definition hospitality, bliss, and luxury. My boyfriend and I came to Kura to celebrate New Years and immediately knew we’d be returning here for years to come. Nestled in the middle of the rainforest with stunning views of the Uvita beaches, you truly feel as though you’re in your private slice of Costa Rica. The rooms are immaculate and incredibly private; each with their own balcony, seductive waterfall shower, pristine linens, and cloud-like king bed. Each night we drifted asleep to the blissful sounds of distant howler monkeys, birds, insects, and drops of rain. The included breakfast (and all food, for that matter) is some of the freshest food we’ve ever tasted — which isn’t surprising given their focus on sustainability and using locally sourced ingredients. We did not leave Kura for a single meal and don’t regret it. This brings me to the staff: each member is incredible. They know your name, learn your favorite drinks and meals, and make you feel at home. Each and every person we interacted with went above and beyond and we are equally as sad to be leaving them. We’d like to mention Alonso, Maureen, Michael, William, Hazel, and Esteban, for their kindness and attention! Not that you’d ever want to leave the infinity pool, but Kura’s local excursions were perfectly planned, well thought out, and allowed us to explore the Pacific coast and all of its beauty. We did the excursion to Corcovado and a surfing lesson - both companies mentioning how much they love doing business with Kura as they treat them like family. (Also, we returned from Corcovado with muddy sneakers, and they immediately offered to wash them for us, returning our sneakers to us as clean as new.) We did not rent a car but felt like we didn’t need to as transportation was easily arranged wherever we wanted to go. Two activities we did on-site at Kura were yoga with Carol (who was incredible) and a couples massage complete with fresh fruits and wine. With only 8 rooms, our entire time at Kura felt luxuriously private and intimate. A beautiful time to connect with your partner among the surrounding nature. Though we are incredibly sad to leave, we know we will return.

We absolutely loved our stay at Kura! My husband and I celebrated our 20th anniversary at this amazing hotel. After an adventurous four-wheel drive up the mountain, you enter the Kura property and are immediately blown away by the most glorious view of the Whale's Tail at Marino Ballena Park. The views, the rooms, the food, and the service were exceptional. The free breakfast every morning provides lots of delicious choices, and the dinners featured locally sourced ingredients. We ate every meal at Kura because there are so many wonderful options to choose from. Special touches include Bluetooth speakers, flashlights, binoculars, and snacks and drinks in your room, as well as free laundry service. They also provide free transportation to Uvita, including Marino Ballena Park, which is absolutely magical! Emanuel, Cindy, Alonso, William, Maureen, and the rest of the staff go above and beyond to make you feel like you are part of the family. I highly recommend Kura if you are staying near Uvita.

Kura is a fantastic hotel. We stayed in a room with a balcony and hammock, which was an amazing place to relax. The room itself is very high quality, and the shower was great. The infinity pool, available to all guests, is legendary. There's only like 8 suites or something so usually you're sharing it with a couple other people or no one at all. Literally every single thing we ate, breakfast and dinner, was utterly delicious. We had planned to eat once down in town but decided to get dinner at kura every night. The included breakfast is a real breakfast, not some tiny muffin and coffee. Service was great. We did a tour of Marino Ballena national park and saw lots of wildlife, including lots of monkeys. Whale watching was a bust with no whales, but it was very early in the season. Absolutely pick Kura as one of your stops in Costa Rica.

One of the best hotels of many I’ve ever stayed at. We splurged for the suite with a private pool and it was completely worth it. So much attention to detail from every aspect of the property, the rooms, and the service. We felt like we had a private staff for our luxury romantic getaway. Some of the many highlights include the turndown service (I won’t spoil the surprise, but just get it and be amazed), the myriad animals from tucans to monkeys who came to visit us in the trees in front of our gigantic private patio, the excellent tours (Luis who gave us the waterfall and sloth tours is amazing), and we would definitely recommend doing the guided night walk around property they offer. We wish we had done it the first night so we could have realized all the amazing animals and insects that were all around us. The town of Uvita was also fun to explore and had some excellent restaurants and cocktails. The cocktails and whole red snapper at Don Roger Mirador Restaurant were amazing and it had spectacular views. ||Areas of improvement for Kura would be the spa was not at the same level as the rest of the experience (understandably challenging given only 8 rooms to maintain a full spa at the same level), and the restaurant had creative and amazing flavors, but the quality of cooking (rib eye overcooked, for example) could use a bit of improvement. But I’m really nitpicking king around the edges here with those comments, because overall, it was such a spectacular and unforgettable experience.||The entire staff was just amazing. So friendly and responsive. I would WhatsApp anything to them, and they would immediately respond. They made us feel like we were celebrities or royalty being treated to such a first class experience. ||Last thing, we had a rental car with 4x4, but I would recommend you park in their lot in Uvita and use their vehicle. It’s a challenging road and it rains in the afternoon. The car service was always timely and we felt much safer with them driving the complicated road. ||Thank you so much for this incredible experience and stay at your hotel!

This 5 day trip was beyond words….once you get up the STEEP hill you are transported to heaven just below the clouds. We were a party of 4 and stayed in the deluxe suites. This suite was so private with incredible views of the Whale Tail. I did like transportation down the hill which we did take advantage of. I also the most relaxing facial with amazing views. Do not worry about rain…it will rain everyday but NOT all day.

This place is AMAZING! The staff are the BEST part of this hotel, the views are second! We felt like time stood still at the Kura and left so relaxed! We had two massages during our stay and they were fantastic! The food will take your breath away!

My husband and I spent 2 lovely nights here and enjoyed it very much. The rooms were very elegantly furnished and the service was excellent. Breakfasts were delicious as were the two dinners we had here. Beautiful views from our room and the restaurant ,and very pretty landscaping, too. The hotel is located at the top of a mountain and we did not feel cofortable driving up and down the steep, curvy diry road to the hotel, but luckily, shuttle service was provided to and from the hotel parking lot at the bottom of the hill. We enjoyed our stay at Kura very much.

We absolutely loved our stay at Kura. This place is heaven on Earth—private, situated in a gorgeous and remote location and offering all the amenities you’d expect from a luxury resort and more. From the moment we arrived, the staff was so attentive, helpful, and kind. They anticipated our needs and met them beautifully. The surroundings are just stunning; we loved seeing a toucan singing in the tree outside our suite. The food at the restaurant was top-notch. I loved the fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juices with breakfast. I can’t wait to come back!
