How One LA Restaurateur Secured a $1.5 Million Paycheck Protection Loan | Eater LA

Kura Sushi Returns $6 Million Federal Loan After Public Outcry | Eater LA

"The 25-location Irvine-based sushi chain, publicly traded and valued at about $87 million, decided to return a $6 million Paycheck Protection Program loan. Leadership said the funds were originally intended to keep non-furloughed staff employed and to re-hire about 35% of the workforce who had been furloughed after most dining rooms closed on March 18. The company reported roughly $24 million in cash reserves and a $20 million loan from its Japanese parent, and its CEO framed the return as a difficult but ethical choice given that better-capitalized chains were crowding out true small businesses; the company hopes the refunded money will reach independent restaurants and other less-capitalized operators." - Matthew Kang

Modesto ca location 10/10 Experience, 6/10 Food (For Non-Sushi Eaters!) I need to start this review with a disclaimer: I am absolutely not the target audience for a sushi restaurant, as I don't eat seafood or sushi. However, I highly recommend visiting this place at least once for the sheer experience—which was a perfect 10/10! The Unforgettable Experience This was our first time, and my kids absolutely loved it. The conveyor belt system is incredibly fun, but the reward structure is what makes it unique. We earned a fun keychain after eating a certain number of white plates, and the competitive fun of collecting 35 plates kept everyone entertained. The atmosphere is excellent—the entire restaurant is very clean, and the staff were wonderful and attentive. (I even heard the bathrooms have a bidet, which is a nice touch!). Overall, the novel experience and the quality of the service were outstanding. A Non-Seafood Food Critique Since I avoided the sushi, my critique is solely based on the limited non-seafood offerings. We sampled: • Beef Noodles • Steak over rice with sauce • Chicken dumplings • Fries • Watermelon, ice cream, and cheesecake The food was undeniably fresh and tasted good, but the overall variety felt limited, and the flavor profiles weren't what I typically look for, which is why I’d rate the non-sushi food a 6/10. Overall Verdict: Come for the unique, fun, and clean environment; you won't be disappointed. If you love sushi, you'll likely love the food, too!

This is the best place I’ve ever been! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys delicious food and friendly service.

Google
would absolutely recommend for those who like sushi. i mean come on, it’s sushi on a conveyer belt and it counts your plates and you put them in a little place like wow. this is cool. lovely and quick service, our waiter made sure we were taken care of, clean bathrooms, and i also enjoyed the x amount of plates gives you a toy gimmick. did get somewhat cold in there toward the end but hey it happens

Our waitress Darnie was awesome. She felt like a friend you have known forever. She was helpful, quick and very attentive. The sushi was pretty good and it was fun to just order what you wanted on the menu screen. Nice and quick if you don't have a long lunch break. Once you order it was made and delivered on the top belt, then the bottom belt had sushi that is freshly made already so you just grab what you want. Nice to see it first instead of just a menu description. Next the plates when you're done, go in a slot at the table and it adds up your cost as you go. The whole thing was fun and tasty. Thank you Darnie for the good experience. Watch out for those robot waiters they might run ya over. 😄

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar offers an outstanding dining experience with a great team and chefs who achieve perfection in every dish. It's a fantastic spot for families and kids, providing both tasty and unique experiences with each visit. The revolving sushi concept adds a fun and engaging element, making it an enjoyable outing for everyone. The quality of the sushi is exceptional, with fresh ingredients and a wide variety of options to choose from. From traditional sushi rolls to innovative creations, there's something to satisfy every palate. Additionally, their interesting drinks menu includes unique beverages like Japanese sodas, specialty teas, and sake, perfectly complementing the meal. Their delightful desserts, such as mochi ice cream and matcha-flavored treats, provide a sweet end to the dining experience. The atmosphere is lively and family-friendly, with attentive staff ensuring a pleasant visit. My family and I enjoyed the taste and experiences immensely. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy great sushi and a memorable dining adventure!

Google
Fun novelty sushi experience! Full points for how fun the experience is, but half points on how the food tasted overall. The rice often had subpar texture. First picture shows the best plate I had, the creamy yolk and salmon was delicious. Still a fun place to eat with friends, just be prepared for pretty long waits to be seated around dinner time.

This spot is super fun. We loved the atmosphere and the conveyer belt. The food was great, but there weren’t many vegetarian options. Otherwise, I would strongly recommend Kura for a fun and tasty dining experience!! Definitely make a reservation if you plan on dining here- it was crazy busy in the plaza and there seemed to be a long wait for a table.
