"Kura Sushi, a conveyor belt sushi chain, offers a highly automated dining experience with a wide variety of sushi and other Japanese dishes. Despite its popularity and the entertaining conveyor belt concept, the sushi quality is often subpar. Many offerings are unappealing, with ingredients such as overly breaded popcorn shrimp and indistinguishable fish. Some dishes, like the salmon skin roll and plain tuna nigiri, are decent, but overall, the sushi is described as abysmal. The venue, however, is seen as a cheap and entertaining option for dining." - Robert Sietsema

this place is very cute and one of the few good places to eat in the area. it’s pretty reasonably priced and you can get full on just a few plates. they also have a decent amount of options for people who don’t eat fish (like me). the wait time can be super long and the tablet outside can really underestimate how long you’ll have to wait however. to get the best experience, i would try to go when it’s not crowded

Google
This place is, ironically, one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve tried in New York! The prices are reasonable, and the taste was truly satisfying! I had tamago, squid, spicy salmon roll, and hand rolls, and overall, the food was fresh. If you want clean, delicious sushi at a good value, I highly recommend it! I think I’ll be visiting quite often :) I also highly recommend the taiyaki and ice cream for dessert!

Kura, for now, is the only Japanese restaurant in Newport area of Jersey City. Overall, it is a good choice if you crave sushi, sashimi and other Japanese specialties. I have been to Kura at least 15-20 times and can confidently say that their food, particularly seafood, is very fresh and masterfully prepared. The service is somewhat lacking. Beware of long lines around dinnertime. And bring your kids -- they get a kick out of the whole revolving belt thing and small, anime-inspired souvenirs!!!

After seeing many reviews complain about food quality and prices at this Kura Sushi, I had to drop this reality check. First, Kura Sushi is not a luxury restaurant. From its origins in Japan, it is a budget sushi spot! And, it is designed to be self-service, so waiter service is intended to be minimal. If you are going to Kura Sushi with the expectation of having a gourmet dining experience, then you're expectations are completely wrong. What you will find, however, are authentic Japanese dishes that you will not find at most Japanese-inspired restaurants in America! Yes. The prices are relatively high compared to other American sushi spots that are typically Chinese-Japanese fusion. But, if you want a similar Japanese taste with higher quality or fresher ingredients, then you would pay at least 2-3 times more at an authentic Japanese restaurant. During my visit, I only had Ramen, and it tasted exactly like what you would find in Japan. (I frequently visit Japan, proof is on my IG: @Nezalpha) Since the prices are indeed a bit up there for casual dining, this is not a place to pig out if you are on a tight budget. But, you can have a great and satisfying meal for under $30 if you mix and match the dishes right. I definitely plan to return to have more real Japanese meals.

Google
The sushi is terrible. If you want to have a cheap revolving sushi experience then go for it. The service is okay as we had to wait for more that 40 mins when it said only 25. It is pretty cheaply prices with 3.75$ for 3 piece of roll. Keep your expectations low. If you do not take a table and sit on booth chairs, it might get too crowded and people will be standing over your head, waiting and looking at what you are eating.

I live in Manhattan. But ill be back. This is MUST GO place. Delicious with good price. No idea why they have less 4.0 review. Must be at least 4.6 review.

Google
We went to try this place because it looks interesting. We had a great surprise with the fresh and great food that we had. Everything was super flavorful, fresh, many options in their menu. Each plate it’s like 3.75$ and it comes with 3/4 pieces of sushi or what ever you choose. They usually have a line. But it was worth it. They also have a robot as a server.

Google
Omg our first time here or at any revolving sushi place and we loved it and had so much fun!! The food was delicious! The robot drink server was adorable, and our human servers attentive and responsive. The rotating conveyor belt was well stocked throughout our dining experience, and the items we special ordered came out quickly. We ate so many plates we won a prize! And one unexpected feature of this place delighted us -- heated toilet seats!! Yes, it's as awesome as it sounds. This experience was just so much fun all around, and man were we stuffed by the end. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Of the many times here, I only encountered one occurrence where the service was questionable in terms of cleanliness. However, the taste of the items here like the fried squid and scallops are great. The value is good for the quality and I'd probably opt for here when I'm considering sushi. Would recommend getting any of the salmon options, scallops, fried squid for sure, sweet shrimp, hand rolls and pretty much everything on their menu haha. I prefer ordering from the tablets rather than taking from the conveyer just because of one time where the worker went on their phone and I had a clear sight of them working in the kitchen with broken gloves. They touched their phone and then went right into putting the sushi's together to then place onto the conveyer. Other than that, every experience here has been great!

Yelp
I thought this place was decent but the second time we went the sushi was warm. Definitely not going back there. It's quiet and the little robots that come around are cool but warm sushi is not a good thing.

Yelp
I have been to this location twice. Once when they first opened and again most recently. Have I written this review after the first time I came, I would've gave it 5 stars. We only came back recently because of what a great experience we had the first time. This time around, the food didn't taste as good as I remembered it. The quality just wasn't there. Kura is definitely an experience though! I love the concept of this restaurant and it is definitely something different. Both times I have been here, there was barely a wait but it got crowded really quick! The prices are decent starting at $3.80 a dish. I do wish the menu was more extensive though. The menu has been the same give or take over the past few years. The sushi is decent but not the best I ever had. Nothing really stood out to me except for the crispy rice dishes. Those were different and really good. It is worth coming for the experience though. For every 15 dishes, you do get a prize from the machine. Great location by Newport Centre and right across the street from the Path train.

Yelp
(Overall: D) - While the revolving sushi bar is a nice and convenient concept with many cheap, cooked, and filling options, my main struggle with this establishment is with the employees. One night when I went the host was completely unaccommodating and unhelpful for no reason, especially when it was an error on their part. As a restaurant that is primarily automated, I'm not sure how this person managed to develop such an attitude despite barely having to even interact with customers during the entire shift. Regardless, in that case I rather take my business to somewhere that respects my presence as there are plenty that are much more tasty restaurants with caring staff members. (Cut Rolls: B) - If you want to eat a lot of rolls at a relatively low price, Kura is the place. They have a variety of options from classics like California Roll other more experimental ones with fried shrimp on top. They both underscore the fast and good value of the establishment, but it can be evident that you are not eating for quality of freshness. (Hand Rolls: B) - In addition to many cut rolls, they have an equally expansive hand roll option to select. I feel like if you get the choices like eel or soft shell crab, they are quite a good deal and safe to eat. For the fish, those are more questionable, but they taste better than other places I've had sushi so it should still be relatively okay. If you're going for the natural flavor of the fish though, this is definitely not the place. (Nigiri: C) - Their nigiri I would say is not as good because here because there are some pieces that are unfresh as light of day; for example, the uni is dark and bitter. Additionally, the salmon tastes fine, but you can tell the faintness of color that the quality is lacking. This is understandable considering the price, but in my opinion I'd stay with the cooked food. -- Food: E Presentation: E Price: +1 Atmosphere: +1 Service: -2* Menu: +1 Overall: +1 D* Insta/Beli: @amei_eats

Yelp
This place was so much fun! Be careful though, you could easily spend a lot of money without realizing it. The sushi is a little hit or miss, be careful with the stuff that's constantly going around the conveyer belt. Some of it is great, but some of it was dry/tasted a little weird. If there's something you really like, order it specifically. I also love the gamification of getting a toy if you eat 16 plates. Just know eating to win the toy absolutely isn't worth it (they're not good prizes), but it's really fun when the screen starts playing and the toy rolls out. The little robot that delivers drinks is super cute. It does feel a little dystopian to have a robot server, and I watched it try to tell the staff that it was low on batteries (they ignored it's alerts). There are actual staff working there too to help seat you and answer any questions you might have. If you're looking for a fun, interesting meal, give it a try.

Yelp
Never been to a revolving sushi train restaurant until visiting Kura. I admit it is interesting seeing all the sushi come around and being able to grab anything I desire. Also, you may place an order directly on the tablet if you don't see something you like. $3.80 a plate but if you want sashimi or cooked food, it'll cost more. The food is average here and you may end up paying a good amount just pulling dishes from the train. There is little interaction here as you check in on a tablet, a robot brings you your drinks and you pay the bill on the tablet. Again, it's cool to say you've experienced this, especially for my son. But I think I'll stick with my AYCE restaurants.

Yelp
A very fun and interactive dining experience! Hot tip: Come on the off hours. We arrived at 3pm on a Sunday and were seated immediately. This is my second experience at Kura. The Fort Lee location had a longer wait and less comfortable waiting area. The staff in the JC location were friendly and took the time to demonstrate how to take the plates off the conveyor belt and walked through how to order individual dishes from the touch screen. Each dish costs $3.70 unless you order a soup or item off of the side menu. Water is free and gets delivered by a robot. This is entertaining and I can see a favorite with kids. Liquor is delivered by a person. The cold sake was presented in a freezing cold water bath which elevated the experience. Tip 2: Page over to the end of the sushi menu and you'll see hand rolls that only cost $3.70. The umami scallion beef rolls, watermelon/cucumber salad, warm sesame balls, and the golden crunchy roll were the favorites of the table. Do know that this an overly stimulating experience. Watching how much you're eating can be a challenge when you are constantly distracted by the next best plate. A song is played rewarding you for returning 15 plates with a prize. Another jingle plays when the robot brings your drink over. You realize the compulsion when you table is filed with tons of mini plates and you realize you ate 15 plates to get a prize! Our waiter was sweet and gave us each a prize as we sat down. We still finished off 30 plates and got 2 more prizes. Personally, I could eat 8 plates here. At $3.70, you're spending about $30-$40 per person on just sushi plates if that is your main and dessert. Drinks were reasonably priced and you'd likely spend more elsewhere at traditional sushi location. You also wouldn't get as much variety as you do here.

Yelp
My feelings on Kura were mixed. The good was the atmosphere of the revolving sushi restaurant. It was my first time attending and I was genuinely amazed by it! It almost felt like being in a restaurant of the future. There were two revolving conveyors at our table. The bottom was a line of sushi dishes that we could select from, and the top conveyor was for items off the grill menu that we ordered through our phone. We were charged after selecting a plate off the conveyor, eating our dish and then sending the tray into the waste disposal slot at our table. Our drinks were served by a robot waiter which was a first for me! The (human) workers were also nice and helpful with explaining how everything worked. My biggest issue was the portion size of our meal. Each plate of sushi was valued at $3.75 and some plates only came with three rolls. I made an order for the teriyaki chicken that was $9.50 and was disappointed to only get 6 small pieces of chicken with some lettuce and shredded carrots. I had 4 plates, including the teriyaki chicken at a cost of $25 and I was still hungry after leaving. If you haven't seen a revolving sushi spot before, I highly recommend you check this place out! But if you're looking for a sushi meal with good portions in JC, I recommend you try another spot.

Yelp
Came here again after a movie at the AMC in the Newport mall. We put our name on the tablet for the waiting list. It mentioned a 15-25 minute wait for two but they sent a text at around 10 minutes. When we entered someone eventually asked if they could help us and got us seated. They yell out in Japanese when someone is about to be seated. We ordered our waters that came on a robot and we picked up a scallop, salmon, eel, and seared salmon rolls through the conveyor belt. As with before the sushi was solid. The main perk is the awesome ambiance with the robot bringing water and the conveyor belt that brings out the sushi. Overall solid experience again.

Yelp
It was good it's trendy. Not sure but you do have fun and it ok quality of sushi/ sashimi. There is also Ramen. It falls in the kind of pricey but different. There is a robot waiter. They still need a human to work it. It was funny a little different and cute.

Nikki L.

Yelp
Quick, simple, fast meal. The booths are pretty comfortable to sit in. You just grab the plates of already prepared sushi as they come around on the conveyor belt. There's sushi like yellowtail, salmon, toro, sweet shrimp and rolls like California, Caterpillar, or Crunchy roll and other sushi variations. Most are simple, filling, and a quick hit for the tastebuds. Compared to other sushi places, this place is a quick, less expensive fix.

Emme M.

Yelp
We had some time to kill in the area so we decided to go in for a "snack," which turned into a full meal... and dessert oops. The conveyor belt was really fun and you could tell which items were fresh and which were repeats. The variety is top-notch, with some seasonal specials. You can also order anything and the cute robot will come over playing a John Mellencamp song lol. The host was super friendly and we only had to wait about 15 minutes on a weekend night around 6 pm.

Katie C.

Yelp
An amazing place for sushi plus it's revolving sushi so how can you go wrong?! When this place opened there was a massive waitlist I'm talking 2+ hours however it has died down now since the hype has passed. Love this place when I'm in the mood for sushi and don't want to pay an arm and a leg. My favorite is the fatty tuna nigiri! The service could be better as they don't really have servers but rely on a robot to bring your drinks out. Not super fancy or chic, great for a casual lunch/dinner!

Jokies T.

Yelp
Used to be a place I enjoyed very much. It is definitely more on the pricey side of you compare to nearby food court but I always enjoyed the quality of the food. However recently they made some "improvements" that I don't really appreciate. First of all the wasabi is not offered on the table, one has to ask for it. Secondly the convey belt is intentionally kept empty, it seems not because people in front of us took as many plates as they can instead the plastic holder isn't even there to begin with, indicating it wasn't there to begin with. Lastly the food quality control deteriorated greatly, some sushi plates, for example tuna toro has blood stains and skin on it, and it is $3.75 every piece? Not to mention the eel sushi always has bones nowadays. During the last few visits I also noticed more flies and unclean spots in the seat, maybe it is harder to keep them clean thanks to the hot weather. Since they're offering raw food this is concerning, I'll stop visiting them in the foreseeable future.

Rusty R.

Yelp
Return visit wasn't as good as the first. Robots were not being used to deliver drinks. Several sushi items on the conveyor belt looked old and dry. And, their "specialty" of the month was candied sweet potato fries which was absolutely terrible - four fries about 1-2" long each that were so cold I assume they came directly out of the fridge.

Jenny C.

Yelp
I love the concept of revolving sushi bars because it's interactive and fun. I experienced a few when I visited Japan a couple of years ago and I was excited to see one inside Newport Mall. The price is decent at 3.80 a plate for most sushi orders and more for specialty orders of ramen/udon or appetizers. Taste wise some were better than others. I didn't find the fish to be fishy but I wouldn't call it fresh either. And service is ssslllooowww. Still a fun concept but can definitely be better

Michelle B.

Yelp
Amazing! The food is sooo good. I wondered why the prices were a tad bit on the pricey end but as soon as I sat down on that toilet. I knew why lmaooo Come visit, it's a great experience, food comes out on the revolving sushi belt, there are all types of sushi to choose from. Prices for each plate is usually set unless stated otherwise (there are signs). For the first timers!!! I only realized it until after I looked up at the screen, each plate is counted on your section whenever you place empty plates in the slot in front of you. It adds up sooo be mindful! Definitely a great place to go once in awhile, it's a hit to my wallet. I only came in thinking I'll be eating 2-3 plates, I couldn't help myself and ended up grabbing 8 plates T.T & a shot of cold sake which all added up to $36~ Yep, great place. There's one opening up in Flushing, Queens which is exciting. Every location is based in New Jersey which is saddening so I'm happy for this place.

Christine H.

Yelp
Reasonably priced and a fun interactive dinner! The fish here was not the freshest and was cut pretty thin but at $3.75 a plate, the quality matched the price. We had a variety of dishes but the standout items for us were the yuzu and regular sweet shrimp dishes and the scallop dishes. We ate many of these. The uni was fresh enough and the quail egg tuna dish were unique too. Eel was tasty but again pretty thin. Fried chicken was fresh but not as crispy as we would've liked. Would come back for the shrimp and scallops but not much else!

Mike H.

Yelp
High tech conveyor belt sushi restaurant with a robot to deliver beverages, a TV screen that plays a cartoon every 5 plates you insert into the slot, and a toy dispenser every 15 plates. They have the best California rolls with real crab. I genuinely go for the food and not the experience.

Christina W.

Yelp
This place is amazing, my favorite sushi was the seared scallop. Nothing tops that. Everything was pretty good, depending on what you get tho. I did wish their edamame was hot and that their egg tart was less sweet and tasted less like cheese cake. Fun concept of clearing out the dishes and being able to watch the animation. Expect a robot to possible serve some of your drinks. Also expect a decent wait time whenever you come eat here. Regardless you serve yourself and the place has a nice laid back feel.

Neha M.

Yelp
Concept is very cute so I mainly came for the experience. It knew exactly how much you ate by counting the amount of dishes you put down the belt after you finished eating. The sushi I felt was 4 on a scale of 1-5 for freshness. I've had better but it was decent. You can even order off the menu so it comes out fresh on a robot - how cool Again the experience is what you pay for so it's definitely a good spot to try once

Sam S.

Yelp
I've always wanted to visit a conveyor belt sushi so when I saw that this one was nearby I knew I had to try it. I queued up through the app, and it had said it would be a 15 minute wait but it ended up being significantly longer than that. I felt that overall most of the sushi was fine but nothing spectacular, which I guess is expected. I noticed certain plates that kept coming around the entire night, such as ones where the fish had fallen off the rice, so it makes me wonder how many times some pieces go around before being taken off. We placed a few special orders which come on the express belt, which was cool to see. I was a bit sad that although we ate quite a few plates we didn't get a gacha toy. Overall, it was a novel experience, but for the same price I think in the future I'd prefer to go somewhere the fish is a higher quality.

Joyce H.

Yelp
A little gimmicky. The food was just okay - if you are looking for quality, other sushi restaurants are definitely better. I would come here for the experience, but I would not make a second trip. They have a tablet near the entrance to sign up for their waitlist. I have not used it myself, but I would recommend going through the hassle of downloading their app and getting on the waitlist from there. I think there is a glitch with the tablet because I never received a confirmation (I double-checked my info before submitting it) and when I went back to check on the queue based on the estimated time it gave me, the host said that he called my number a long time ago. The only area he was able to seat us was right by the entrance where the cold wind kept blowing in. We had to eat with our coats on because it was freezing. While dining, we heard 5 other parties also miss their call because of the same situation as us. I wish the host was more empathetic. It seemed like a pattern where people were missing their table call and he made it seem like it was our problem, but I am pretty sure the tablet was not functioning as expected. Onto the food... We noticed a lot of plates were empty on the belt and not being restocked so we had to order from the menu for 95% of our dishes. My favorite was the Golden Crunchy Roll. I also like hand rolls but felt that the way they prepped it made it hard to hold - the filling was mostly peeping out of the wrap for a nice display, but this made the base of the cone empty so you have to push in the filling before you eat so you have something to grip on. Don't bother with the wagyu roll. Not worth it and bland. If you order drinks, a robot will deliver it to you so keep an eye out for it. It is really quiet and doesn't notify you when it is there. We ended up spending about $45 per person including tax + tip.

Chin T.

Yelp
Please put your name in the waiting list before you go to the mall or do anything. Or even better, enter their loyalty rewards program when you spend $50, you get $5 and you can put your name remotely without stepping out your home. We waited about an hour after putting in our names. You can choose from counter or table. However, I recommend the table because the counter gets last dips in the conveyer belt. Shout out to the servers Maya and Christian! They were friendly! They taught us how to properly take the plants from the conveyer belt. They let us swap the prizes (eat 15 plates, you get a prize) and let us know when we spend more than $80 pre tax, we can get a tote bag (please note, this promo ends 3/3/2023). Also, you can purchase the keychains or badges each $3.70 (they count as plates too if you don't want to eat 15 plates). Food: was delicious you can take whichever one. Be careful with the eel, there was a bone in there. Desserts: hokkaido cream tart- creamy texture- would recommend if you're not allergic to the ingredients. Also, order cold water from device above your head. The self serving robot will deliver your cold water to you with paper straws! How environmental friendly! If you are looking for a prize, eat 15 plates. Again if you don't want to eat 15 plates you can buy the rewards and each keychain or badge is a plate. Would highly recommend coming back! Especially each month's merch is a different anime!

Yelp
Kura JC is finally open after months of waiting by the phone to receive an email about their grand opening. JC dwellers no longer need to trek all the way up to Fort Lee to get their conveyor belt sushi fix! Checking in: They have an iPad in front of the entrance where you can check in by entering your name and phone number. You'll be put on a waitlist and a link will be sent to you where you can track your place in line. Their app also has the option to check wait times and add yourself to the waitlist, though it wasn't available when I went since it was still the grand opening. They get busy like the Fort Lee location so be prepared to wait during peak hours. Ordering: Kura is basically self service since the food is served via a conveyor belt and you can order other items a la carte via the iPad, including drinks. Once you're done with your plates, you place them in a hole so the system can count the number of plates you've had. Food: Big fan of their "specialty" nigiri -- the seared salmon with Japanese mayo, yuzu jalapeño sweet shrimp, and the seared scallop were all favorites. Admittedly the other nigiri pieces (i.e. salmon, yellowtail, etc) were similar to what you could get at a local ShopRite. The takoyaki was surprisingly good though. Price: Plates on the conveyor belt are $3.70 each, with other a la carte plates varying. This is a little more expensive compared to the Fort Lee location which is $3.35 per plate. Misc: You receive a prize after every 15 plates and an animation plays on the iPad every once in a while.

Yelp
I was waiting for a long time for this place to be opened. And finally, it was opened last week. I joined the online waitlist and got a table after 2 hours. When I got to the place, there were a lot of people inside and outside waiting. I was the next party to be seated. The waiter told me to wait outside. I was pushing a baby stroller. He said since I had a stroller, I had to wait outside. However, he didn't tell the group of people who were waiting by the door with their baby stroller to wait outside. I really don't want to think it was discrimination because I was not white but the other group was. Or maybe I was there by myself without having a group of people to back me up. Anyways, after waiting for another 20 minutes, I was finally seated. To be honest, the food weren't the freshest especially the sea urchin which left a very bad taste in my mouth. Everything else was okay. I think the Fort Lee location was better. Too sad that this place is actually not too far from me. I am not sure if I would go back before they fix the service and food.

Yelp
This brought me right back to my time as an exchange student in Tokyo. Back then, I was mostly attracted to conveyor belt sushi restaurants because of the affordable prices, but the concept of waiting for your food to come around on an automated belt always struck me as so futuristic. After coming back to the US, I always wondered why they were so hard to find here, but that question has now been answered - if you haven't experienced conveyor belt sushiyourself, I would definitely recommend visiting. Location: Kura Sushi is located across the street from the Path Station, located at the heart of Newport. For those who often go to Newport Mall, it's located right beside one of Newport Mall's entrances (next to Gregory's Coffee). Food: There are both traditional nigiri sushi and more Americanized roll sushi. We thought the salmon was a little dry, but the scallops and yellowtail were very good for the price. We also ordered ramen and a beef bowl, both of which were delivered on a conveyor belt made for special orders. Service: The service was good, but be sure to get in line early or use the app to avoid waiting too long. A good way to pass the time waiting is by walking around the nearby Newport Mall. Price: For what you get, Kura Sushi is very reasonable. It's probably the cheapest sushi of decent quality that I've had in a while. Verdict: A nifty experience with decent food at pretty affordable prices.

Yelp
I was finally able to eat at the new Kura! I was super excited and hungry and came on Christmas. They were serving free hot green tea to everyone with free refills because it was cold that day. Service is superb, and the waiters and waitresses are very kind. I love that you can just sit down and start eating immediately. We were second in queue, but didn't have to wait at all. The sushi was just as expected. Nothing too fancy and not extremely mind blowing. I did like the tempura udon and mochi ice cream though. I'd say at $3.70 per plate, it is pretty pricey for the kind of sushi you're getting. We ended up eating 20 plates plus a few menu items and it cost us about $120 before tip. We can eat elsewhere for higher quality sushi at that price. But I just love the gimmick of the belt! We got a prize that was a Lego rainbow roll--super cute!

Yelp
Cool for the revolving sushi experience if you never had one, but don't expect to get real, good quality of sushi here. The place is clean and quite cozy. Sitting by the second side door sucks during the winter because the cold air kept coming in. No wait getting in on a Friday lunch that day I went. Food quality: Most pieces are cold, especially the raw pieces. You can tell the fish quality is meh by the color. Thin fish slices over a cold block of rice, that's not how sushi is. Each plate is $$ for the amount you get, it's fun to grab and put the plates away though. I also would avoid getting "fancier" sushi here. Was excited for uni but it was the worst I've ever tasted: It was bitter aka NOT FRESH. The cucumber on a ikura sushi piece was also bitter...Just only come here to try a few plates of sushi for the fun gimmicky experience, but get real food elsewhere.

Yelp
Expect to wait quite a while during dinner time. Came at 6:30PM on a Sunday, and waited until nearly 8:30PM before getting seated. Granted, I came around 2 weeks post-grand opening, but I still wasn't expecting such a wait. The idea of self-service conveyer belt sushi is nothing new, but something's pretty satisfying about picking a plate off the line. Staff was very nice! They will ask if it's your first time here, and give you a 101 on how to grab the sushi plates and dump them later on. Ordered around 20 plates in total, and found that most of the sushi was great bang for your buck. They have a pretty generous selection of salmon, tuna, scallop, eel etc. to satisfy nearly all sushi cravings ! There's some funny gimmick animations and small prizes for hitting 15 plates of food -- a nice touch to the theme of the restaurant. The place is lined with gacha-machines that roll out prizes , and it did bring me back to the feeling of eating in Tokyo :)

Yelp
Very close to New York City. Can take the path train here. Right in front of the Newport Mall. We went on a weekday and there was no wait. They open at 11am so we spin around at the mall first and right when it hit 11am we stopped by. There were already people inside. We tried conveyor belts in Tokyo and the atmosphere and construction remind us of it. There was also a conveyor spot in New York but then it got closed down. You can order other stuff if you don't see it on the belt through the iPad. And if you order drinks a robot will bring the drinks to your table, awesome! Conveyor belt sushi. We were taught how to take the plate from the revolving train, then we were good to go. Take as you like and then dispose your white plate slide it down. If you get 15 dishes you get a gift from them. Service was quick for the place your order on the iPad. During lunch time, maybe they were still getting ready as not that much option on the belt. But I like the whole concept of a revolving sushi bar.

Yelp
There was a wait when we arrived for dinner. They have counter seating in addition to booths. We added our name to the list and had to wait awhile. The experience is fun because there are many options and the sushi comes around and you can order items to come directly to you too. Although there were many options we were not impressed with the quality of the food.

Yelp
Wow one of the worst quality fish Ive ever seen. Some of the food on the conveyor belt looked old and dry so I placed a fresh order but it was still bad. The fish barely looked like sushi quality. Reminded me of the cheap quality fish you see at cheap poke places. I really dont understand all the high review here. Have people never eaten sushi before? Rather just get whole foods prepackaged sushi which seem better quality.

Yelp
Visited Saturday night with a group of 7 for my son's 18th birthday dinner. No booth fit that many so we had to split up and sit across from one another. It's about 99% self service from ordering to serving to cleaning and paying. The conveyor belt is super fun! The robot bringing drinks is cool. The food was really good! Not the best sushi I've ever eaten, but still very good. We tried just about everything (75 plates in total plus some additional desserts). We were very satisfied! The bill was $380 after tip, so a bit pricey for 7, but we'd still return. Good food and good experience!

Yelp
Shoprite/ Supermarket sushi is way better! ...And I don't even eat that! The Sushi meat was thin pieces and a large clump of rice! Wasabi was coarse, large particles, not smooth. The dried up sushi on the conveyor belt kept turning my stomach! I even gave this place 2 tries! The first time I got food poisoning, my kids blamed the Takoyaki I ate. No Takoyaki the 2nd time and We are puking up the $$111 Waste of time, together!!! The dry, blonde dyed hair waitress said, "Don't come back!" I said, "No Fricken way! FOR WHAT! YOU'RE DONE!!" I was already puking their crap up on the curb!!! Pre-cut, dried up sushi is a SHAME!!! AND YOUR PLACE SUCKS!!! No Thanx ...And I eat A LOT OF SUSHI!!! Illuzion, Hoboken! Treat yourself!!! Done!!! and No, I'll never eat there....again!!!

Yelp
Good sushi place in Jersey City. This is the same chain as the one in Fort Lee. I wanted to check this place out for about a year. I heard this place was opening very close to my work. This place is better than the one in Fort Lee. There is an iPad-looking thing outside that you put your name in to be placed on a waitlist. We waited about 10 minutes after that. Then they call as in. Ordering can be done from a screen next to the table, or just grab a dish you like. Paying the check can be done on the screen by yourself, or get the waiter to use the screen. They count the number of dishes to determine the price of the meal. Overall I am pleased with this place. I enjoyed the real crab meat dish. I recommend this to anyone looking for a fun sushi place to eat in the area.

Yelp
Finally a revolving sushi spot in Jersey City! I've come here quite a few times and this place was alright. There are so many options to choose from, from sushi, to entrees, to desserts, and all CAN be made fresh to order, which is sweet especially if your reservation is later in the evening (where the rolls being out for a while is questionable). Service was awesome, very friendly and attentive. Personally, there is always a wait, so recommend getting the app and signing up in advance, or go during off hours. Overall, great time. Would come again with friends to share the experience.

Yelp
Its good. Some of the sushi is better at the fort lee location but this one is much more convenient for me. They greet you at the door. Im not sure if the machines were just busy but a human brought our water to the table instead of one of the robots. Which is fine! But when i come, i look forward to seeing them. It's a bright, well lit place. I hope they stay longer than the previous store.

Yelp
This food was very low quality, if u want the worst sushi and food poisoning go here. My tummy hurting right now

Yelp
Nice place for a quick meal. Service is quick and the robot bringing drinks is a cute addition.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try one of these places and was giddy when one opened in Jersey City. We visited during lunch and was seated right away. The location is small and I can imagine they get filled during peak times. Since it was our first time the server explain how to properly pull the plates from the conveyor belt as to not pull the whole container. The screen has the menu where to order drinks and other items. The drinks comes to the table on a robot, pretty cool. Each plate has a serving of food and costs the same. I ordered ramen since I can't eat all the items on the belt due to food allergy. I was able to get the beef and rice options, which where plenty options for me on top of the ramen. The ramen order comes on a belt on top of the conveyor, again pretty cool. Overall first time experience was awesome. Service was quick and friendly. We will definitely go back.

Yelp
The wait is so long during the peak hours I would avoid going then. The sushi is decent and I simply like the idea of trying a little bit of every cut, and variety of different dishes. All reasonably priced.

Yelp
Meh food. Not a lot of variety. No creative sushi rolls. The sushi pieces have a lot of rice, especially the gunkan sushi, in which it was more obvious to tell that the rice wasn't of good quality and wasn't fresh. I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the food because I come to revolving sushi places mainly for the fun experience, but the food and variety of rolls was disappointing. I remember there being more variety at the Kura locations in California.

Yelp
So, to preface this review, I'm going to be comparing my experience here to the Kura in Fort Lee, cause it's the only other Kura I've been to in the US. Of course it's not going to be the same or as good quality as the Kura's in Japan, but you take what you can get here. First off, do not come here if you're expecting high quality, omakase sushi. This is basically just above take-out sushi from your local sushi spot. Second, you're here for the experience of watching sushi rotate around and you can just grab whatever you want - or order off the tablet. It's fun, it's gimmicky, and you end up eating too many plates. Now onto the review, I found my experience at Kura JC to be much better than the one in Fort Lee. First, it's right next to a coffee shop and also across the street from the Newport Centre Mall, which means you have things to do while you wait. At the Fort Lee location, you wait in your car, in the cold, or at the Walgreens in the same strip lot. The staff here are just nicer and the space is also just bigger. You're not breathing on top of every other table. I just felt less cramped and less rushed. We walked over around 1:30pm to put our names down and was quoted a 54 minute wait. It was more like 30 minutes at the end of it. We just had a coffee next door while waiting. We had a very leisurely meal and no one rushed us out. Overall, a great experience. I would definitely come again.

Yelp
Went for the first time to have a birthday lunch. Never been to a conveyor belt sushi spot so figured it'd be a cool experience. And it was. I was a little worried the sushi wouldn't be great, as other reviews suggest, but I enjoyed almost every single roll I picked up. Not disappointed in the slightest. You can also order things off the menu and have them made for you But I do wish there was a few more roll options. Overall, fun place, good food, & forgot I was even in NJ for a while.

Yelp
I have had another Kura location on my radar for awhile, but glad to see that the JC location finally opened up. I loved the option to sign your name in online, however, its not accurate. We put ourselves on the list and was told there was a 2 hours wait, so we didnt show up to the mall yet. then about 45 mins later, we saw we were #6 in line. GOOD, but bad because we had to rush down there. Make sure to check the app often because it can be inaccurate. huge turn off about this place? it was below freezing in here. most people were wearing their jackets. it was so uncomfortable. not only did this effect us, but it effected the food. everything was cold, which sounds great for sushi, but not when its stiff and the rice is hard. Overall the rolls were okay. we ended up dropping about $80 here and only got 1 thing of sake. the rolls are small and the plates add up for sure. but the coldness of the place really effected the food, especially the nigiri and the rice. i liked that you can order a lot from your table and have it sent over in no time on the revolving belt right to your table. i highly doubt ill be back because the food was mediocre and the lack of heat for the customers really pissed me off. a one and done for me, for sure.

Yelp
walked by the storefront in the summer and i'm glad it's finally here! i came here for a weekday lunch with my brother and we were immediately seated. the staff taught us how to retrieve food off of the conveyor belt and mentioned that we can order additional food and drinks from the tablet above us. our drink order was delivered via the robot and it was pretty cool, even tho the kitchen was literally two steps away from us lol. the conveyor belt had most sushi (usually 2 pieces/plate for nigiri or 3-4 pieces for rolls), some apps, and some desserts. we also ordered some items off of the tablet and they're delivered right to us on a designated belt. anyway, some highlights: -seared salmon with japanese mayo: fatty and buttery, perfect for those who like salmon but not raw salmon. -hokkaido scallop with japanese mayo: sweet and buttery, this was realllly good and better than expected. -spicy crunchy taco: it's like a taco and a handroll had a baby! love the hot and crispy shrimp tempura, creamy avocado, and crispy seaweed. i read up on the reviews beforehand and i definitely agree that most fish was sliced prettttttty thin, except for my single piece of bluefin toro nirigi. don't expect a fancy omakase experience, instead, expect a fun/interactive way of eating sushi. there's not much service to speak of, as you'd order/checkout with the tablet at the desk, but the staff is around should you need help (ahem, we got another demo of how to retrieve food off of the belt lol). overall, a pretty fun experience and i'd be back.

Yelp
I went with a group of friends and we all had a great time! They loved the sushi- I myself am not a sushi fan, but there were plenty of non sushi options that I enjoyed. The conveyor belt and robot that brings you drinks were a fun experience. My one complaint is it is hard to keep track of how much of a tab you are running when just picking up and pulling sushi from the belt. Additionally, it was unclear how to get refills on drinks since a robot brings you the sodas.
