"Kura Sushi, the state’s only conveyer-belt sushi restaurant, is preparing to open a second Michigan location in Novi sometime this summer. It will feature a two-layered revolving sushi bar and express conveyor belt system, more than 130 plates including sushi, ramen, udon, and tempura covered in domes, and 'Kurabots' that will assist servers by bringing drinks and condiments to customers’ tables." - Serena Maria Daniels

Seats are set up in sets of four keep in mind for large parties. The 🍣 was fresh and nothing bad, just not the best portions and slightly ordinary. I would commend the ingredients they did use all seemed very quality. It's the novelty that's cool. The revolving sushi delivery. The drink delivering robot. The touch screen speciality items. Prizes for 15 small plates that's surprisingly easy to do. We will go again just for the cool factor and the kids loved it.

Google
We will definitely be back to Kura! What a fun experience. It’s like an amusement park for dining. The quality was good as were the choices. We went off peak and only had to wait to be seated for about 5 minutes.

Google
Though we were seated quickly, very few items were actually on the conveyor belt throughout the entire hour we were there. Several of our items took over 8 minutes after ordering, and since we couldn't pull anything from the bare conveyor we quickly reached the max order status on the tablet. We weren't asked a single time if we wanted refills, and didn't see staff going around except when someone was being seated. Bathroom was also out of paper towels. The food was just as good as the other location I went to, and the drink robot was very quick. Though this location is 4x closer to me, I may just continue to go to the other location instead.

It's one of my favorite sushi chains. It's always a great time. It's a bit pricey but worth it. Food and drinks were amazing.

Google
This place had an amazing food variety, and even though if you go with a few people, it can get a bit expensive it is still extremely fun and has an amazing atmosphere and is such a cool experience!

Google
My absolute favorite place to eat! Blown away by the menu size and everything I've pulled off the belt has been fresh and delicious. A great selection of desserts, too! I love that they reward you with little prizes as you eat, with anime themed custom trinkets, pin, lanyards, and more. The entire experience can be had without ever talking to a server. You order everything off a screen, drinks are brought to you by a robot, and your food comes down a belt right to your table.

Google
The food was delicious and fresh. It was an interesting place to visit for the first time. I spent nearly $100 for 2 but I think it was worth it. The sushi is made fresh and doesn't sit in a tray on ice to keep cool and they had a good variety too. I highly recommend this place even if it's a once a month thing.

My husband and I got a gift certificate for Christmas because we heard a lot of amazing things about Kura. We made over an hour drive and It was pretty busy when we got there at 3:30 which was expected and totally okay .. but by the time we were seated 80% of the domes were empty and the rest was the raw fish nobody wanted.. we ended up ordering 90% of our food which we could have done way closer to home. Not to mention the stuff we wanted to try that was advertised on the belt but empty weren’t on the menu to order. The experience was cool in and of itself and the food and staff were absolutely amazing but I’m not entirely sure I would come again

Dave M.

Yelp
It was a fun experience. The sushi was fresh and delicious. I liked the little robot that brought your drinks. This would be a great place for a couple, but probably not going to fit a large party. We will definitely go back..the ordering system and conveyor belt made delicious sushi even more fun!

Yelp
It's worth visiting once for conveyor belt sushi experience. If you have a group larger than 4, seating will be a challenge, might need to separate into few tables, as most of the tables are setup for 4 people. Depending on where you sit, sushi selections are challenging. We were seated in the last row of tables and by the time the food came to us, we had very limited selection options. I would recommend you order using the kiosk, so you get it to your table, but this also takes time and I noticed that the kiosk has a limit on how many dishes you can order at a time. As for the fish, they were decent, no smell. The rolls were ok, the shrimp and the eel was the best, don't get the ramen not wroth the price and it lacked flavors. Service was hit or miss, they had three folks working the floor and the robot. Took long time to get our drinks, especially the tea. Could use more staff working the front for better experience. We ended up spending $280 with tip for five people. For that amount and for better sushi option, you might want to consider Ahjishin (take out only) or One World Market sushi. Definitely will spend less money. I also wish they had different price points for different dishes like a lot of conveyor belt joints do. As I stated, it's worth visiting once for the experience.

Yelp
I am absolutely outraged by my recent experience at your establishment, and I am currently exploring legal options due to the harm this has caused. My girlfriend and I dined here last Saturday, ordering salmon nigiri, tonkatsu ramen, and the seasonal poke through your automated system. As a revolving sushi bar, I naturally trusted the conveyor belt offerings and picked up two blue fin tuna nigiri that looked suspiciously dull and discolored. In hindsight, it's clear the tuna had been sitting out far too long--it tasted sour and rancid, which should never happen at a reputable sushi restaurant. Worse, both my girlfriend and I woke up that same night with crippling nausea. I threw up once, then developed a brutal fever that lasted for days. At one point, I was shivering so intensely I had to wear three layers of clothing just to function. Even now, my stomach feels like an overinflated plastic bag, and I'm struggling to keep any food down. My girlfriend fared even worse, vomiting three times that night and developing a fever that left her equally debilitated. Neither of us is in any condition to care for the other. This has already interfered with our daily lives and work. We've endured days of misery all because of what should have been a simple sushi meal. The entire experience was not only unacceptable but downright dangerous. As a revolving sushi bar, you have a fundamental responsibility to ensure that any food on the belt is safe and fresh. The blatant negligence here is shocking. If this location cannot guarantee basic food safety, then it has no business continuing to serve the public.

Michael M.

Yelp
What a great experience! The service was excellent, and there was even that robot butler bringing me a lemonade. Then you see all the fabulous types of sushi coming down that conveyer belt... hopefully you're hungry! My first plate was Luffy's Jumbo Spicy Roast Beef Nigiri... that was spicy, crunch, and delicious! Yeah, the plates are expensive. It's not a cheap meal. And the whole thing feels slightly gimmicky, but... hey. It's my day off, I wanted sushi, and this was a nice way to spoil myself. Everything was clean, the staff were lovely, and I couldn't have been happier with my lunch choice today.

Yelp
I took my 9-year old niece here after a trip to the zoo. This kid can eat sushi like a fiend, and I thought she'd love the novelty of the conveyor belt. I was 100% right. We did have to wait a bit. About 20 minutes or so. But it wasn't so bad. The staff working front of house was clearly stretched a bit thin, but they were doing a great job. When we got seated, our server explained how it worked for both me and my niece. And then we got to it. There was a little issue with our drink order not going through on the screen. Another server said we hadn't been signed in? But no worries. They got it fixed and our drinks came soon enough. I was bummed because there were spots on the belt for edamame, cucumber salad, and watermelon, but we never saw a single plate come out of the kitchen with those items on it. We were able to order the watermelon from the menu, but there was no edamame to be had. It's one of my niece's favorites, so that was a little disappointing. I wanted the cucumber salad to help cut through the richness of all the sushi I was eating. I ordered miso soup and it was...not great. I made myself finish it only because it was sort of pricey. But I wouldn't order it again. That was really the only issue I had with any of the food. Obviously the bill was expensive, but for the experience I think it was worth it.

Cristin G.

Yelp
If you've never been it's worth trying once. This place is one big gimmick, but not a place I would go to if I was craving good sushi. The conveyor belt idea is cool, but 2 pieces of sushi are going to set you back $3.60 and depending where you are on the line you may have to wait awhile to see something you like come to you. Ordering is available on a display pad over the conveyor belt, and anything you order will be delivered on a separate belt directly to your table. It cost $109 for 3 of us to go to lunch. My favorite find was the Toto toilet in the restroom, but unfortunately it was filthy so I didn't test it out. If you're looking for good sushi at reasonable prices I recommend Sushi House in Farmington or One World Market which is right around the corner.

Amanda D.

Yelp
A fun new way for us to enjoy sushi! This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. There are two belts one that is continuously being refilled, and the other is for orders placed on the tablet (top belt). Both myself and my husband liked being able to try new nigri and rolls without being committed to many pieces. Each plate is 2-4 pieces.

Natalie B.

Yelp
I had a lot of fun here and didn't wait too long, beating the rush on a Thursday at 5pm. This place is always busy so be conscious of that when deciding to come. The food on the conveyor belts is good and diverse but there are even more options such as hand rolls, French fries, noodles, and desserts. At $3.75 a plate it can get pricey quick, but being mindful of the choices you are making can make this an affordable meal. A large hand roll from the ordering tablet is also $3.75 making it a good value compared to the rolls on the belt. The little prizes you receive for every 15 plates eaten is a unique souvenir to remember your time there. To make the most of your trip I would recommend a party size of 4 to ensure you hit the prize goal.

Brian W.

Yelp
Go for the gimmick but eat somewhere else. Overall, just a frustrating, disappointing experience for our work meeting lunch. Numerous orders never appeared (e.g., edamame, the sushi that did arrive was far from fresh. Pop was delivered via a robot but was flat. WIth how long it took to get beverages, did not want to send them back to only wait even longer.

Phil B.

Yelp
Pros: - about as close to an actual rotating sushi bar you would see in Japan. - good selections to choose from, not overly "Western/Americanized". Sorry Japan doesn't make California rolls, or whatever crazy concoction you see these days". Cons: - bit on the pricier side. - the robot delivery drinks (and the music it plays while roaming around the store) is annoying.

Yelp
I first saw a conveyor belt sushi restaurant when I was at a mall in Virginia. We didn't have time to eat there, but I enjoyed watching it and have wanted to go to one ever since. Well, for my birthday, my family decided to surprise me by going to Kura. My nephew and niece-in-law go there a lot and they have the app. They put us on the waiting list before we left the house, but we still waited another half hour-ish. I didn't really like the idea of people standing around the diners as they ate, waiting to get their tables, but because the place is so small, there's nowhere else to go. It just makes the diners feel rushed, which is not an ideal situation. Apparently, there is usually a slot to put your empty dishes into and a robot that brings drinks. Unfortunately, neither of these was working when we went. But, except for the miso soup, which was too salty and not hot, I enjoyed the food. It's fun to decide whether or not you want the dishes that come before they get too far away. And I also like that you can order things that are not on their way around. It was very entertaining to watch the dishes that were ordered slide down to the correct table! I think if I go to Kura again, though, it will either be at a less crowded time or I'll go to the Troy location, which I heard is bigger and has fewer technical problems.

Madison W.

Yelp
The food itself was okay. But the establishment seemed and felt dirty. The bathrooms were not kept well. Seems more like a place you go to take a video of the revolving sushi bar than a place to truly enjoy it.

Nicole E.

Yelp
Have only been to the Novi location once, usually tend to go to the Troy location more often. The revolving sushi is a fun concept if you like grabbing items as they pass you by. The cost can quickly add up if you don't count your plates and different plate colors are different pricing. Not sure the revolving concept is the best for us, since my husband and I prefer freshly made sushi orders. I think the benefit of watching items go by us serves more as a live menu to help determine what we would like to eat is all. I think it's a good place for a group or more, seems like a lively and social spot and less intimate, since it's usually more noisy than other more intimate Sushi spots.

Kyna V.

Yelp
This is a unique sushi dining experience. They have a lot of selections on the conveyor belt and they offer an on-demand menu as well where you can order other dishes or special rolls. They also offer dessert like mochi and ice cream. Overall, I would say their sushi is good but not that great compared to other sushi places. They come in small portions, about 2-4 pieces and are priced by plate. The prices are pretty reasonable- about $5 each. When you get 15 plates, you get a free prize. There's a robot that walks around and serves you on the table, which is pretty cool and their servers are also available to help. This is a pretty fun and unique dining experience and is a must try!

Ang S.

Yelp
Took our family out here for lunch. It was enjoyable; the younger ones were excited to incur the robot serving your drinks up and the capability to order whatever you wish from the screen located at your table. Sushi was good, but rating this spot 4/5 as the service was not exactly where I'd expect it to be when you did need to incur a human to troubleshoot/ask for refills.

Annette J.

Yelp
I've surprisingly never been to a conveyor belt sushi spot before so I was excited to try out Kura with a friend for dinner. It was smaller than I expected, so the tables filled up quickly, but we got there shortly before the dinner rush and didn't have a problem getting a table, however, reservations are recommended if you want to come at a busier time. As for the experience, there was a slight learning curve when it came to the process (I definitely kept pulling the plates off incorrectly and felt very I Love Lucy at the chocolate factory the first few runs) but once I got the hang of it it was a lot of fun. The sushi itself was pretty good (not the best I've had but still satisfying) and the interactive element kept the evening lively and engaging. Typically plates are about around $3-4 bucks which adds up quickly when you're pulling everything that looks good to you off the belt. There's also a screen where you can get made to order dishes like full entrees like ramen and udon, fried sushi rolls, or desserts. Since most everything is automated, service is a little low key. They basically come by for drinks at the start and then at the end to settle up if you choose not to pay through the screen. But they are around if you need any help or have questions about any of the dishes! I'd definitely come back here again when I'm in the mood for sushi with a bit of excitement mixed in.

Tara S.

Yelp
If you love sushi, give this place a try! The sushi is served on a conveyor belt and you can order ramen and hot foods from a menu screen, which also arrive on a different conveyor belt. Great atmosphere and fun place to eat. The service was great! I loved the crunchy roll and tried various crab rolls. I also ordered ramen which was pretty good! It's a great place where you can try new foods, such as Uni (sea urchin). Highly recommend and will be back when in the area again.

Bri B.

Yelp
Very much recommend this place if you like sushi! It's a cool ambiance that feels fancy, at least to me. They have many options, which is always appreciated. I don't care for the price of each plate for two pieces of sushi, but what can you do? You know. I like how you can order sushi special for you only on this screen above your seat and how they have other options, like soups and tempura, not just sushi and DESERTS!

Liz P.

Yelp
3.5/5 but I'll round up to 4. This was my second time at a Kura location, the first time being in Troy last year, and it was a lot of fun, but this location definitely has more issues than the Troy one. There's a robot to bring drinks, which is pretty cool, but we ordered three waters and never got them, so one of the waiters had to bring it. (And again, we tried ordering refills but no dice) The concept of the sushi assembly line is really fun. My boyfriend lamented that he wished they had more items and I think Troy's did. I'm a bit of a gringo so my favorite ones were one of the crunchy rolls and also the steak rolls. The (taiyaki?) fish-shaped dessert with red bean and ice cream was also great. For three people (him, his mom, and I), it was about $104, but check your bill - ours came up as $128, we had 23 total plates and then 3 desserts but for some reason it came up as 23 total plates and 8 other plates. That being said, the waiter took off the extra cost for the 8 other plates. Waitstaff was friendly, also, but we always had to flag them down. I'd still come back here again though because it's such a fun experience.

Emily C.

Yelp
I've been to a few different locations, and the Novi one is pretty good in its own right. They had the shorter wait on a Saturday night so we opted to head to this location. We got in line from the Kura Sushi Rewards app which is a nice feature! We waited in the car until we received a text saying to head in. Upon heading in, the host was very kind and made sure to tell us that they were running a little slower than usual. We were sat maybe 15 minutes later (but that was because I requested to not sit by the door, so it took longer). Their plate slots were down, but the staff was very quick to come by the table and take plates so you didn't feel like you had a lot of dirty dishes. We tried several kinds of sushi from the belt, all of which was phenomenal. It's rare they have one that isn't very good. We also ordered edamame, pot stickers, miso soup, and crispy rice with crab from the menu. The miso soup is out of this world! So delish and flavorful. It's hard to mess up edamame, and the pot stickers were very well seasoned. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream (always yummy) and cheesecake. I typically get the cream tart, but they were out of it when we went. The overall vibe of the restaurant doesn't feel super rushed even though it can be at times, and it is really cool to get to experience a little Japanese lifestyle right here in Michigan. We'll definitely be back! Only lost a star because the plate slots were down and they didn't have a few menu items available that I was hoping for.

Ebenezer's Anni L.

Yelp
I was disappointed. Heard such good things and about the lines of people, but maybe I am spoiled by other wonderful sushi places I got to enjoy with EBS and myself. More limited choices and if can't have spicy, it is TOO limited. If you prefer rolls, you will not have many to choose from. You can order from a small menu of some rolls and sides like ramen. I did and had to bring it home to get eel sauce on it. One of my table mates ordered ramen and really enjoyed it. The choice of desserts were the biggest hit. Traditional Japanese to cheese cake. Your drinks are ordered on the screen menu and brought by a robot, but they also have human servers to get refills and answer questions. The idea is interesting and entertaining, but during a rush, many choices might not make it to your table which slows the meal down. I am glad I tried it and so were the members of my dining out group, but I don't think most of us will hurry back.

Devika P.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of time and I really enjoy it. The sushi was pretty good for a reasonable price. Pulling things off the conveyor belt takes a second to get used to but it's very easy. Ordering from the menu is also very easy and convenient if your impatient to wait for something you want to come around on the belt.

Yuko F.

Yelp
The tuna was white. I thought tuna is red or pink. Do not know if tuna can be white. New experience of having no human interaction. I prefer human.

Lexi K.

Yelp
We had a 15-30min wait time. The servers were helpful with getting us seated, showing us how to grab plates off of the conveyor belt, and checking in with us. The food was delicious. The overall experience was so fun.

Bernadette B.

Yelp
Oh this place made my tummy and heart so very very happy. But right off the bat? The seating system is a hot mess. I arrived, and it wasn't very clear how I was supposed to put my name on the list. There were two waitresses that I saw, and they were already incredibly busy. Eventually I figured it out and someone approached me after the fact. The wait time? 280 minutes. 4.5 hours, you say? Oh joy. A waitress did eventually find me, and we ended up waiting for 35 minutes to have a couple seats at the bar which only wasn't that big of a deal. At least we got to have dinner at an actual dinner hour. The sushi itself? Made me so so happy. The conveyer belt moved along and part of the fun is keeping an eye out for something that you'd like. If you're getting impatient or just can't seem to have any luck with what you'd like, you can order it via the touch screen above your seat. In a few minutes, the express delivery will drop off the sushi just above you. It's a fun time. My particular favorites were the Bluefin Tuna and Eel with Miso Cream Cheese. I also loved the Taiyaki and ice cream for dessert. I'm very excited to have this place nearby in Novi. If you've never had kaiten (conveyer) sushi, this place was an authentic experience to others I've had on the East Coast. The waiters will also ask if you've ever been there before, and they'll walk you through how everything works. In all, thought, it's a very Japanese experiment - intuitive and self-automated. Oh. And there's a robot that will deliver you drinks. It sings a little Japanese type jingle but has a British accent. I'm still confused, but who cares? It's a ton of fun.

Alex T.

Yelp
Such a cool place! Be prepared to wait a long time if you're going during normal meal times. I would suggest signing in and seeing what the wait time is. If it's really long, get some shopping done in the area while you're waiting. Inside, the place is small and cozy, with great character. I loved the drink delivery robot and the ability to order everything on the menu fresh if you wanted instead of having to wait for it on the conveyor. Some options are order-only. Kura is THE place to try sushi if you're looking to be more adventurous. I was able to try some new things that I wouldn't necessarily want to commit to at a regular sushi restaurant but because the plates are so small, I was able to do it. My favorite part is how the plates are counted as you put them into the return slot. Every 15 plates a prize drops from above. It's cool! Kura is unique, and definitely worth a try.

Lily N.

Yelp
The sushi is good! This location is 10x better than the location in Troy because they have more variety and the 3 times I have been here they had everything in stock (I can't say the same for the Troy location). The food always comes out fast, the servers are quick to greet you. I honestly have no complaints about the food here, it is good! Not amazing, but definitely good and super fun! The waitlist and lines I do however think is garbage. I got here, along with probably 30 other people right before they opened. I waited in line and never saw the sign for the "waitlist". I noticed that the host was letting people in line come in to the restaurant but also letting waitlist go in but in no particular order. Guests behind me were consistently getting more angry because people who had been waiting in line before the doors opened were not getting a table before people who had just gotten to the parking lot because of the waitlist. The restaurant needs to do a better job at seating because it makes no sense and it's frustrating. This only applies for when they first open the restaurant for the day. I tried going on the waitlist at 11:10 am and it told me the waitlist was not open but when I stood in line at 11:25 I noticed the waitlist was now open (they open at 11:30). I luckily got in, but I can't say the same for the family behind me. I put myself on the waitlist when I noticed and it said I was 11th in line with a 40 min wait. Don't open the waitlist and let people in who are in line at the same time, it doesn't add up. Get it together. This could've been an easy 5 stars.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Fantastic sushi and great for picky eaters new to sushi. Just like it says it's a revolving bar so you see the types of sushi you can have and if you like it you take it off. Your drinks are brought to you by an adorable robot. It's fantastic, clean, and has really good food. Averages $3 a piece of sushi so it's definitely expensive but well worth the trip for a special occasion.

Klyde D.

Yelp
Service isnt really needed it's a self serving sushi bar, just sit down and enjoy. Everything is prepared fresh and put on a conveyor belt with soy sauce and ginger at the table. If you want anything that's not on the belt there is a separate one that goes straight to your table for personal orders. There is a cute robot that brings your drinks and prizes every 15 plates very family and date friendly. Don't recommend going on weekends tho.

Allister F.

Yelp
Been about 9 months since I've visited. The quality on every roll we ordered has dropped substantially in that time. Everything tasted overly fishy, the avocado was not fresh, and they seem to be compensating by adding a lot of mayonnaise to rolls that use that ingredient. The restaurant has gotten dirty, and there was food on a lot of the conveyor belt containers that shouldn't have been there (food on the outside of containers that had fresh sushi on the inside). And there is too much nigiri on the conveyor belt and not enough rolls, so you have to order most of what you really want. Flavors were so bad that my kids didn't want to eat much today, and would prefer multiple other sushi restaurants. I won't be back until I hear quality improves.

InThe D.

Yelp
Second visit. Both times, the sushi was a bit above average. First visit, staff was just odd. Second host, waited in long line only because the tables were all dirty. Great concept, but Kira has got to pull it together.

T P.

Yelp
2.5hr wait, and you have to order off a screen, and get your water from a robot. Ain't no way bro They get two stars since I didn't even bother trying the food (that was being prepared by a teenager). Also the belt was full of cheesecake and other shT that people didn't want to eat. Looks lame

Chris N.

Yelp
This is truly a remarkable place, if you have never been to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant before. It is extremely popular with hours upon hours of wait time if you go during peak hours. Download their app so that you can get on their waitlist. That's the only way to get a seat especially when it gets busy. It is also an introvert's paradise because your interaction with the server is almost nil. Let me explain: a greeter will sit you down at your table, and that's about it. Everything else you can do by yourself! You can order your own drinks from a monitor that's on your table. Your drinks are served to you from a roaming robot! Also, you can special order dishes to your table, using the same screen. Those dishes will zip up to you on a separate conveyor belt above the main sushi conveyor belt. You can order entrées such as noodles or ice cream desserts this way as well. All the sushi they offer slowly meanders right beside your table on a conveyor belt. If you want anything, just lift the dish off of the protective dome, put it on your table and chow away! The sushi is very high-quality and good. This restaurant chain originated from Japan. So you know that everything you are eating is authentic. They do innovate by offering things like steak sushi. You read that right, steak sushi! And it's delicious! It's hard to explain, so just try it. Once you're done, simply insert the plate into the plate collector slot, and the computer automatically tallies how much you have eaten. Once you're done with everything, you pay at your table using a QR code and your smart phone, and then you just stand up and leave. It's pretty amazing! The only caution I have is be mindful of how much you grab off the conveyor! It is very easy to go over your budget if you don't watch it, because everything is so darn good! The best thing about this place is the unique dining experience. There is just nothing else like it. Give Kura Sushi a try!

Patrick T.

Yelp
Don't go looking for fresh sushi or decent prices. The only reason to go is the novel experience of conveyor belt sushi and a drink robot.

Beth H.

Yelp
Second visit to this restaurant since they opened. I checked in online and continually checked my place online and at the restaurant when we arrived. My number was up next. I was TOLD that we should wait outside and that I didn't need to check in again at the kiosk - we would receive a text message when our table was ready. We waited another 30 mins in the car, watching tables empty and walk out but no one being seated. I finally walked in after no text message, to find my number still on the screen and everyone was wondering what was going on. Finally someone (her 3rd day there) came up and said there was something wrong with their system and started taking people's names and numbers. Tables 119 and 120 were not inside and waiting so she took me next. We were then sat at one of the empty tables. Thankfully, not right in front of the crowd and freezing cold door. This place has a very poor setup. We sat, I ordered our drinks and we started in. After a few minutes of watching and taking my first selection, I put my first plate in the drop and it got stuck. No one had visited our table yet to inform us that the plate return was broken, until I called someone over. THEN she said to keep the plates on the table. Shortly after, someone reset the plate return as the machine could be heard cycling below - then the screen started playing 80 plates worth of animations. At that point the screen was busy and we were unable to order anything from the menu. One animation would stop and another would start immediately. I flagged someone down again to let them know and ask them to reset it so we could order. She said that she would send someone over to help, but no one ever came. We just had to wait for it to stop. We did not get any refills, couldn't order, our tiny table was loaded with dirty plates and people were stacking up squeezed in the front door waiting for a table along the wall. It was freezing outside and if you cannot get a text to say your table was ready, why wait outside? I thought going at 5pm would avoid the rush on a Friday. It would have if things were moving properly. This could have been handled much better. The same young lady that had only been there 3 days helped check us out and got us drink refills to go. I don't think we were there maybe 20 mins and most of that time was troubleshooting the issues. We counted this visit as a snack and got something proper to eat down the road. I really like Kura sushi but this visit was awful. I will be back only because of the young lady that was trying to hold things together.

Yelp
A second Kura location in metro Detroit - at last! Even though this one is located further from me than the Troy location, it works out well for me given that this will draw part of the local crowd away from the Troy one, meaning less crazy wait times, which I've already seen enacted! Now, the crazy wait times are at this Novi location, so please give yourself plenty of time to wait in line (and download the app if you haven't already so you can join the waitlist virtually). Everything in terms of the food quality and deliciousness is consistent with the Troy location! So this review will primarily focus on the differences between the two, so if you want specifics about the food items and whatnot, check out my Kura - Troy location review! For the most part, everything is the same, which we appreciate in a chain restaurant. But with Kura, it's extra impressive given how all their ingredients are so fresh and given how you'd think a larger scale operation with sushi would naturally diminish the quality of the fish and other ingredients, but it really doesn't here. Everything is so fresh, so flavorful, and genuinely some of the best sushi around - especially in Michigan - and with a really fun experience paired with it all! I've come to the Novi location twice and that was where they debuted the robot "waiter," which is truly my highlight every time I go. Happy to report the Troy location also has a robot waiter now as well, so you'll get the delight at either location. The robot will deliver your drinks and any side dishes you might want (wasabi, ginger, spicy mayo, etc.) to your table and it's just the cutest thing! The first time we went, shortly after they opened this summer, we were waiting in the parking lot (which doesn't have a lot of space to wait in, people were spilling out off the sidewalk and standing in the handicap parking spots directly in front of the restaurant/strip mall) and could see the robot bustling back and forth right by the door. They had a rug just inside the door for people to wipe their feet on and at one point the rug became crimped and the robot tripped over it and went tumbling!!!! The waters it was carrying splashed onto the legs of some of the people sitting by the door, but other than that everything was fine. Sadly the robot was put into time out for a bit - even though it wasn't his fault!! - before they brought him back out onto the floor again. (I'm mostly kidding about this last part, I know they were just rebooting/recalibrating his system, it was just hilarious because we were seating not too long after the tumble and saw the robot basically in the corner and it looked like he was adorably in time out haha!) The only main difference between the Troy and Novi locations for Kura is the space. The Novi one has very low ceilings and all around feels smaller and more cramped. They have those three booths right by the front door, where I think the bar area is sort of situated at the Troy location, and I feel bad for whoever has to sit there, especially once the weather gets colder. There is no hiding from that front door opening and closing as people walk in and out and truly these first row of booths are 3 steps in from the front door. It's a very slim walkway (it's a wonder the robot can navigate this area at all) and so far I've been lucky not to have been seated here. The bar (non-table) area of the Novi Kura is situated at the opposite end of the conveyor belt furthest in from the front door. But all in all, everything else is consistent. Prices, items/options, quality, and experience! I absolutely love it here! It's great for friends and family and everyone to experience together, such a fun time and worth the pricey nature if you get a bit carried away with eating! Have fun!

Yelp
Wait is ridiculous. Not much more to say because we didn't get to eat here. Won't even consider coming back because it seems more of a novelty than a great place to eat.

Yelp
We ordered take out for the first time. I ordered through the app and it was easy. We tried: tekka maki, salmon toro, tuna, real crab California roll, and caterpillar roll. It came with soy, wasabi, ginger, and chopsticks. The app said my order would take an hour and it did. I arrived early, and waited 5-7 minutes. No problem, I did my daily Duolingo lesson while I waited. I was surprised to get such a big bag of food. The packaging was a bit excessive. They could have used half of the packaging. Everything was good except the tuna was not red. It was almost a brown color. We'd order takeout again, but dining in is more fun!

Yelp
I was utterly delighted by every gimmick this place had to offer lol. A happy robot bringing me my drinks and singing a song?! Food rocketing toward me on a conveyor belt?! Inserting empty plates into an empty plates slot?! Receiving a prize after 15 plates?! I loved all of it. That being said, this is not a place I'd go often because it gets pretty expensive. We sat kind of far from where the belt originates so some things were picked over by the time they got to us but you can also order whatever you want off of the computer screen and it sends the food directly to you. You definitely have to get the app to get a table. You can join the wait list on there and then show up when it's your turn, otherwise it's a loooong wait.

Yelp
Cool vibe here! Love the way this place is set up it's very cozy but modern at the same time. They have a digital waitlist you sign into once you enter that tells you your wait time. They have tons of cute booths tucked in all around. The revolving sushi bar is super cool to just watch as it goes through the restaurant. They have a very large sushi menu with some other options like ramen in there as well. I didn't try any sushi when I was here, only ramen and it was not the greatest. I would come back to try the sushi here because I have only heard good things.

Yelp
It's a no for me. It's a cool experience but the sushi is NOT good, didn't taste fresh and looked sad and like it was spinning around all day....we went around 2pm. Won't be returning.

Yelp
I LOVED the chicken gyoza!! The ambience was super good! I went with a friend and I definitely had a great time! If you are a fan of brown sugar boba, I totally recommend the warabi mochi; it has a jelly like texture and a nutty flavor!! Only downside was the hour wait Still worth it though!

Yelp
It's like a quick serve sushi place. Variety is great but not all sushi is good. Their ramen is decent.

Yelp
This location used to be pretty decent when it first opened. However, my most recent visit made me never want to come back again. The handrolls were actually inedible and so is the salty miso soup. I had to spit out some of the rolls as they were diabolically bad. The service is also ok. Super disappointed in this location.

Yelp
Fun concept, good food just a bit expensive with a few pieces per plate. A dollar more go to a sushi place and get a whole roll.

Yelp
We walked in with a party of 4 at apx 8:40 having all-ready checked in online. They close at 10:00 but the armor guard was already pulled down on the windows which made it look like it was closing or employees are just too lazy to open fully. Sadly we would find it was the latter of the 2 options but either was it was definitely uninviting all-ready. When we were finally greeted And were told no one was ahead of us but no tables were open and one was out of order. Yet when the wife walked to the restroom the reason the tables were unavailable was due to 3 of them being dirty with stacked plates .(we learned why when we finally sat down We were told the plate slots were broken. But they will come and count them in front of us periodically as you well know the main reason for coming here is the experience of the animation tv screens as you drop your plates in the slot and the prizes you get. Not the average /basic sushi The whole point is the kitsch of it all The slots have been broken so long there were signs on the slots . It was dirty due to the laziness of not picking up the dirty plates and dirty slots. We saw no robot serving you the drinks like in the troy location and the closed window guards were just the icing on the cake. Stay away from this location , sadly it is clear if they do not care about of the front of the house this much ,how much do they care about the potential revolving warm? Stagnant sushi? Or customers?

Yelp
I really enjoyed this experience; it was a whole experience combining the revolving sushi, robot servers, and cool plate disposal system. Got to say it's a little steep at 3 dollars a plate and you might not be super full off just the sushi alone

Yelp
Definitely recommend joining the waitlist for this fun new type of dining novi has needed! You walk in and immediately see so many types of food moving on conveyor belts, a little Kirby robot running drinks to people, and a very bright and welcoming staff when you first walk in. Food comes by in a conveyor belt and you grab what you want for $3.30 a plate, there is also a digital menu where you can order larger dishes and soups that get delivered to your table on an express conveyor belt! Overall good new spot and something fun for the commercial area of novi. A taste of Japan in southeast Michigan!

Yelp
Awesome experience at Kura!! I've only been to sushi train restaurants in Asia and Chicago Chinatown so far. I was so excited when I found out when opened in Michigan not too far from me. I came here with a friend mid Saturday afternoon. We thought we were actually getting there early when in fact there was another 1 hour long wait when we got there. Definitely a popular location! Next time, I will definitely reserve a spot on my Yelp first before getting to the restaurant. The sushi tasted extremely fresh. There were many varieties of sushi meats and types coming across the conveyor belt. Our server helpfully gave us a mini intro to the conveyor belt before we started to eat as all the sushi plates are protected in a plastic "clam shell" attached to the conveyor belt. I haven't seen something like this before until now but definitely prefer it for safety and hygiene reasons. It prevents someone from easily licking or tampering with your food or accidentally sneezing and coughing on the food as it moves on the belt across tables. I will say we had some close calls where we couldn't get the "clam shell" to open in time to grab our food LOL. This caused a temporary half-second halt on the train but we did manage to get our plates every time. Kura also has these adorable cat robots that serve customer's their drink and hot food orders. They play upbeat music while they cruise around the restaurant. If there is something you want you don't see on the train, there is a very convenient touch screen menu at the top of each table where you can order the sushi, hot food, or beverage you desire. You can even order sushi-themed toys off of these. The staff will send literally a "bullet train" on a separate track located on top of the sushi train track to deliver your order right to the table. Great experience! Will definitely be back here.
