While best known for conveyor-belt sushi, Kura’s ramen offerings have earned serious praise from the Houston Chronicle and local food critics. The kitchen prepares each bowl to order, with a focus on traditional tonkotsu and shoyu broths. The experience is interactive and lively, with a modern Japanese ambiance that’s fun for all ages. Kura’s commitment to freshness and flavor has made it a standout among Sugar Land’s ramen destinations, especially for groups who want to sample a bit of everything.

Ramen Revelations: Where to Find the Best Bowls in Sugar Land

I moved to Sugar Land not long ago and have been exploring sushi places — finally found Kura! I went this morning around 12. The food was good; however, I noticed the server put his hand in his pocket after using his phone in the corner. He only checked on customers when the manager came out. There were only two tables, one of which was dirty, and the floor was a bit messy too. We tried calling him and pressing the button, but he didn’t respond, so a manager from the kitchen had to come out and serve us instead. I would have given 5 stars, but the service made me think twice. The food from the belt was fresh since they waited for the first customer before placing items on it. We’ll definitely come back because we enjoyed the sushi, appetizers, and sashimi — the salmon toro was really good! Could not take all the pic we order

Biggest issue was the debris in my draft beer. I didn’t notice till I was almost done. Beer didn’t have a salted rim. Makes sense there was debris because the beer was also flat. Had to ask twice for the soy sauce dishes. They asked if we wanted wasabi when we were seated but it never made it to the table. Sushi itself was pretty good for what it is. To summarize, don’t order the draft beer, and be patient with the wait staff.

Google
First time here and I loved it ! All the sushi was fresh. My favorite was the sockeye salmon and eel. The dessert mochi icecream was so refreshing!

I came around 5 p.m. The lady came to check on customers, and the service was good. The takoyaki, crispy squid, and Kura fries were my favorites.

Google
Went to Sugar Land today. It seems like the manager was checking the front often and making sure everyone was okay. The vibe felt chill, and the prices went up a little bit, but the food quality has improved as well. I’ll definitely come back in the future.

Fun little sushi place. Took a minute to figure out how to open the sushi shells but once I figured it out it was easy. The place was slow with only three customers. I wish they would have spaced us out a little. I needed to attend a zoom meeting but I didn’t want to disturb others. The waiter didn’t like my request to move then seated the very next table right next to me. Not a big deal but the restaurant was empty. Just didn’t make sense. Food was good but with it so slow I think some of the sushi was on that belt a while.

Google
Have been here many many times, is a good first time sushi spot. Is a little bit pricey for the quality. Sometimes give out frozen food during dead hours or non busy hours. I highly recommend getting the non-sushi stuff like the chicken kaarage which is really authentic and the warabi mochi dessert. Check out the photos for a big variety of the kind of sushi you can get here.

Hangyodon likes the unagi, American wagyu and seared scallops. The portions are great because you can try everything. The staff was really nice. Arigato!

Yelp
Kura is great and honestly a very good value if you go in with the correct expectations. No, the nigiri rice is not always going to be as tightly packed and most of the times the fish quality is just a tiny half step down from what you would expect from a good sushi restaurant. The pieces that we always get include the salmon toro nigiri, sweet shrimp nigiri, scallop nigiri, negitoro handroll, and spider handroll with the occasional bowl of ramen thrown into the mix. These are our personal items and are priced a bit cheaper but often at a very similar quality as you would find at other sushi places. We always order off of the screen instead of grabbing sushi from the conveyor belt and the wait for our food is never too long. The wait time to get seated is never too long and we find that the minimal staff interaction is kind of nice from time to time. This is a family friendly place that we find perfect for the casual and quick sushi fix.

Yelp
I honestly won't accept any kura slander because kura is perfect for the days where I just want quick fast cheap sushi to wet my cravings. I know kura can get a bunch of comments about it not being "high quality" or whatnot, but let me put you guys on some of the best most worth it plates at Kura that will change your mind. For a solid $3/ plate, my husband and I love spamming the: - sweet shrimp nigiri (2) - salmon toro nigiri (2) - whole scallop nigiri (2) - spider handroll!! - This is so big and so flavorful. Honestly, it is one of our favorite spider handrolls in the city (and we get spider handrolls everywhere we go) - currently on their special menu, they have a shrimp tempura sushi plate that is insanely large (comes with 3 shrimp tempuras!) - sometimes, they have otoro (1 piece), which is such a steal for 3 bucks - Also, if we feel like eating soup, we get the shoyu ramen, which is surprisingly very flavorful with a rich broth, bouncy noodles, and gooey egg. (~$10) Sure, there are days when the rice isn't as vinegary or days when the rice falls apart, but truly nothing can beat a kura night when I really just want quick easy fast good sushi. I also love that there's such a wide variety and you can choose to grab whatever your eyes and stomach are drawn to in any given moment. Service is so fast and they use robots to deliver the water and wasabi. Great vibes and I will always recommend to my friends.

Yelp
We've been long patrons of this franchise and have been to this location 3-4 times now. Today was super special. We had the BEST time! It was all thanks to the staff members were super helpful and friendly. Really made our experience what it was! Inside: Who doesn't love conveyer belt sushi?! We loved looking for the plates to grab and enjoyed watching it come down the belt. For the food: Soooo many yummy options! Love the fast access to food. Our favorite is the smoked salmon with cream cheese. We could've just ate that alone! Hard to stop! One piece was the featured pop up this time! We loved our pin and button! All in all, big up to the manager and staff here! We can't wait to return and stuff our bellies once more!
google avatar

Courtney M.

Yelp
Everything we ordered was "meh" at best. Not fresh at all, and we left feeling not so well. We were looking forward to a fun experience but it was a bummer.
google avatar

Mariah M.

Yelp
I've experienced Kura in person and via delivery several times and it is one of my favorites! I love all of the options available and for the price I think the portions are fair. I will say sometimes when I come in it takes awhile for someone to greet and the checkin tablet isn't there, but once I am greeted they are all very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Sushi is good. Had a few customers inside and staff was friendly. Standouts were the mackerel, seared scallop, shrimp and avocado, seared salmon, Wagyu beef, and the yellowtail. I wasn't a fan of the Tantanmen, it had a lot of odd flavors going on and the soybeans were a bit strong and bitter. The broth didn't have much flavor. The panko tuna sticks were extremely oily and I was not a fan of the raw squid. Definitely a 4 for the sushi but the deep fried items were very oily.

Matthew D.

Yelp
The food is amazing, especially the seared salmon with miso cream cheese being my favorite. Service is quick and they provide the best of service. The music is not too loud and not very loud. Came her during the one piece collaboration and got the rare acrylic charm!
google avatar

Brittney T.

Yelp
It's been years since I have been to Kura. Used to be great quality! My favorite was their seared salmon. Decided to come today and disappointed at the quality of the food now. Pieces were super thin, prices went up. There was barely any sushi on the belt so we ended up ordering most from the screen. Just not as good as I remembered. The rice wasn't like sushi rice - kept falling apart when you picked it up. Honestly not worth the money to eat here. Fun concept, wish they kept the quality up.. Likely won't be coming back.
google avatar

Kellie T.

Yelp
Was not what I expected, very crowded, semi clean , the food that is supposed to be hot has to be ordered and not eaten off the revolving thing because it taste icky. A tip was expected even though a robot brings your food and drink . This place did not turn me into a sushi eater .
google avatar

Kat M.

Yelp
Our go-to for cheap sushi eats! We love the experience and their rotating specials, also the price! Even though it's getting more expensive now, it's still cheaper than most places.
google avatar

Bento B.

Yelp
My favorite sushi place to eat in Sugarland! Food always fresh on the conveyor, lots of choices to choose from. feels like I'm in Japan when I dine here! Thank you Kura for the amazing experience always!
google avatar

Suelynn N.

Yelp
It's been a long time since I was here. I feel like the quality of the food was okay. It's a good place to get a sushi fix in the area. It is a nice experience for the dishes to come on a a train belt that comes around on a slow conveyor belt . For the bigger dishes, it's made to order and brought to you on a fast track conveyor belt . And they have a robot that comes to bring you drinks. They usually work with a current promotion for a show so for every 15 dishes you eat, you can win a random prize. Or you can buy your desired prize. They also have a button to ask the waiter/waitress for any assistance. The place was clean and not too loud so you can hear your friend talk. If you're splitting checks, do not put your dishes in the slot. I would call the waiter or waitress to come to the table and have than guide you to split the check. Free parking out front . But if you're coming from grandparkway, there are a lot of constructions right now

Yelp
My first time trying and this might be my new favorite sushi place. The sushi is delicious and very affordable! I got four plates for less than $15. Anywhere else it would cost maybe twice as much for 4 plates of sushi. The waitress was very nice helping us and giving us a demonstration. There was a robot that played nice tunes serving us our drinks. Overall it's really nice!
google avatar

Allie H.

Yelp
This was my first revolving sushi experience and it was super fun. They have such a great variety of dishes on the conveyor belt but also had a number of dishes you could order. The hand rolls are a must for sure. Maybe this isn't the best sushi in the world but definitely was a cool experience. Super easy and fun

Yumi J.

Yelp
This is my fav place to go with my daughter!! We just love KURA!! Always have fav salmon, sweet shrimp, tempura shrimp. Scallops... etc We love KURA
google avatar

Robert Petty ..

Yelp
I really loved the revolving Sushi Bar. What is nice is you can order something special from the menu or just wait until something comes a long on the belt. Got my wife to try new things which made me happy and my bill 4x as much. LOL Definitely would go again. Don't let the robot running around freak you out. It will bring you your drinks.
google avatar

Jaylin S.

Yelp
We always love eating here! The service is always great and the food always taste fresh, we love having such a variety and the option to order as well.
google avatar

Brandy R.

Yelp
Food was good as always. First we ordered a cut key chain, only to be told "ops that wasn't supposed to be on the menu yet, it hasn't been released yet". Second, very disappointed that we ordered the milk tart for dessert. We waited and waited and it never came. When we asked the waitress, she went to the kitchen and the chef said they haven't had that for over a year! Why was it on the menu? Why were we left to wait when we were on our short lunch brake from work? Not Cool.

Hung N.

Yelp
Great food and lovely Enviorment. Will dine in again definitely.Thank you for the great experience as always!

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Every order came out quick and staff was friendly. I liked the casual and chill vibes the store gives.

Yelp
First timer here the food was great! and environment was friendly. Hung was amazing! Definitely will return.
google avatar

Kristy S.

Yelp
Been coming here every few months bc my daughter loves the toy ball vending machine when you eat 15 plates. They have robot to deliver you drinks that you order on the computer. Overall sushi is ok the ramen and udon are good. I like coming here. You can order from the computer or grab the plate from the belt.
google avatar

Emmanuel H.

Yelp
One of the best spots i've visited so far! The moment I went in the ambiance was very refreshing, the Food was AMAZING, and the experience was Must to try. I can add that Mr Hung was incredible and served us with excellence! Thank u guys!
google avatar

Sadia A.

Yelp
Our go to spot for when we're craving quick sushi. There's a variety of all kinds of sushi. The prices are great and the ordering system is easy and so fun! Love the little animations and games.

Insia N.

Yelp
I've been going to Kura for at least 3 or 4 years, since they opened. In the beginning it was great, then they bumped up prices. And today I went and noticed they slashed their menu and made many plates three rolls instead of four which is extremely ridiculous when they charge by the plate. The conveyer belt was empty even though no one was there and the quality of the sushi was noticeably worse from when they opened. Super disappointing.
google avatar

Ardara H.

Yelp
The food is fresh and tasty. The service is cool, it starts with an associate and then an AI robot performs the rest. The ambiance is new to the US but common in Asia with the conveyor belt and robot service. Super worth the adventure

David T.

Yelp
"Exceptional service from start to finish! The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to ensure a great experience. Their warm hospitality truly made the visit enjoyable."

Maria F.

Yelp
Food was delicious and fresh! Staff were very helpful and accommodating, overall it looked clean. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Food is fresh and yummy! Good service and atmosphere. Favorite is the crispy chicken and squid.

Shelby Y.

Yelp
KURA!!! Hands down the greatest sushi spot in Houston. It is a great place for children and the atmosphere is inviting and clean. The service is also amazing. They are very accommodating.
google avatar

Khloe A.

Yelp
This place was AMAZING before covid hit. I havent been here for a while but i remember it used to be delicious. Lets just say, its not anymore. Service was good. I love how they were constantly checking on us and the place was clean. Now the food. The sushi looked very sad and there was barely any on the conveyer belt. Most of it was almost like flat and looked like its been tossed around a couple times and some of the fish even had a fishy smell which was unappetizing. The ramen was very mediocre, However the beef udon was delicious but i wish it could be little hotter. Moving on to the dessert. I got the warabimochi which used to be my FAVORITE before, and lets just say i was VERY disapointed. It was flat, mushy, and weirdly brown? It used to be square very firm and like off white color and delightful. Overall, this was very disapointing

Jenny N.

Yelp
I don't mind ordering through the computer screen, it's less interaction, and I actually enjoy eating by myself. I like the place for the speedy service and meal so I can get up and going! I ordered a fried roll but it took way longer than it usually does, it took around 10-15 mins. I just ended up canceling it. I'm not a fan of too much rice in my handrolls, and every handroll I got had a ton of rice where as the rice use to the same size as the nigiris. I would've gone to IWA for cheap sushi but it was closed from 3-5. I'll just starve next time lol
google avatar

Carol B.

Yelp
Used to be decent but the last visit was really sad. Instead of having a visual feast, it was just empty sushi plates on the rotating belt. Moving on to better Japanese places.

Josseline G.

Yelp
This was my first time trying this place and the food was amaziiiiiing. Hung did a wonderful job, the service was well done. The environment was also very friendly and welcoming.

Chandler R.

Yelp
Hung holds it down with the at Kura. great vibe and energy. The Yellow Tail was just right. Clean establishment and top notch service. Top Marks.

Jim W.

Yelp
Sushi is good but not Ramen, Ramen is salty. The service is really nice. I also like the idea of robots sending drinks to your table. The location is very convenient to shopping around.
google avatar

Mia J.

Yelp
The sushi was not fresh. May possibly have been old seafood not thrown out after power outages due to hurricane Beryl in TX? Very fishy taste to the california roll and the rice was gummy. The miso soup was OK but had a gross amount of seaweed and green onions in it. (very little broth). Needless to say one of the worst sushi places I've been to. Won't be coming back again.

Taraneh T.

Yelp
One of the best sushi places I've been! I'm honestly shocked that this place's rating is lower than 4 stars. I would recommend the tiger roll, I get it every time. The prices r also pretty good, compared to some of the other places I've went. The service is always amazing, too. The only thing that makes Kura not the best Japanese restaurant is the waiting time. In conclusion, this is one of the best restaurants I've been to :D
google avatar

Fox E.

Yelp
You can Kura lot of diseases with revolving sushi bars, believe it or not. I used to hate sushi and now I really like it. I don't love it because it doesn't fill me up, but this place has decent prices and pretty good sushi for the most part. I think you can get much better and much cheaper at the secret little hole in wall places in New York and Boston that I love. But overall as low or mid-price Houston Sushi goes this is not bad, although it's a corporate chain and they're pretty similar to the other locations of this chain.
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
I've been many times before without any issues, but this last time a few weeks ago was not very good and left a poor impression. My friends and I waited for a table for some time, and we had a kid and baby with us. That is ok as it seems all tables were filled at that time. However, it seems the staff was dragging their feet to get tables cleaned and answer customer's requests. Finally, when we got a table, we were only able to order two items until an error message came up on the screen that wouldn't let us order saying there were too many orders at this time. When we talked to the staff, we get different responses. Some of them say they ran out of sushi rice. Imagine a sushi restaurant running out of sushi rice! Then one or two of the staff was reluctant to take our order manually for other dishes. I just don't understand why not, because there are still other things we can order if no rice. There was also no food coming out on the conveyor belt. We decided to leave due to the poor experience. Walking out, they still had two customers waiting. Why would you not let customers know that there is no more sushi rice?? Overall, the staff didn't do a good job welcoming me and my friends for evening dinner. The sushi is always consistently decent though.
google avatar

Chi H.

Yelp
I don't know why, but trying it every state now and it's starting to get very mediocre and the food here at this location wasn't that impressive. It was open but only a few seats were available. They close half the restaurant down. But it wasn't even busy either. The sushi was okay. Staff wasn't attentive or friendly and I was just done. My friend like it. I just thought it could have been better. It's so much empty plates on the belt and when it did have it, wasn't too sure how long it has been out. So we opted to order on the menu instead of the belt. Tasted a bit better, but still, it was just okay. Gotta go to the real Japanese place. Not this.
google avatar

Mimi X.

Yelp
This location (sugarland, TX) is absolutely my favorite. It always tasted freshly made and not stale or average like the other locations. I've tried almost all their locations (even in other states too) and this place is no doubt, hands down my favorite.

Nick M.

Yelp
Staff is rude they have a robot to bring you drinks and you order and pay your self but then they ask for a tip sorry zero tip
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Kura sushi is a great economical, mid-tier, fast, convenient, and introduction to sushi and Japanese cuisine. Not bougie, astronomically expensive, unapproachable, snobby, or strictly authentic to where first-timers struggle to find something to try. There's the conveyer belt sushi - but I just order from the tablet as I don't know how often the conveyer belt plates are refreshed at off-hours. My go to are seared salmon with mayo, seared scallop with mayo, and beef udon. The udon is pretty decent - a tad too salty. The shrimp tempura dishes they have are also REALLY well done and perfectly fried. Ten Jyu is definitely a favorite. If you do choose to get the shrimp tempura udon, I recommend asking the wait staff to have the kitchen not put the shrimp in the soup unless you like it soggy. Japanese style soy milk donuts are also particularly well done! There are also capsule prizes - I find it difficult to reach unless it's a table of at least 3. There are collaborations with Sanrio and the next one is coming up Feb 1. Recommend signing up for their app to get loyalty points and earn those $5 rewards. ;) Haven't really had an issue with cleanliness. Wait times and staffing was bad for a while during COVID, and I do really wish they would extend their hours to match Jinya's and close around 10-10:30 PM - I think the demand is certainly there. They've since staffed up and the wait times aren't bad these days. I enjoy coming here for a quick fix of sushi and would recommend!

Yelp
Covid hit this place hard. We used to be regulars - once a week! The staff used to remember us lol. Now, prices have gone up so much its no longer fun to eat here. On top of that, the portion size shrank. The nigiri visibly has less fish and is not as fresh tasting as it used to be. Last visit the fatty salmon had a very noticeable fishy odor. We used to eat like kings for $35 for 2 people. Now, the tab easily reached $60. Sadly, this place is now in our past as we no longer frequent this establishment.

Fred A.

Yelp
Sushi always tastes fresh and their rice is the best. Very friendly service and cool atmosphere too!

Thomas A.

Yelp
Loved the options here and the fun experience. The wagyu beef tasted really good and all of us loved it.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
We've been here several times now, but we have notice a distinct change in the quality and general upkeep of the restaurant. The service is decent, and I can't really complain except they never check on you to see if you want more water or drinks. I guess that's because most people are in and out rather quickly compared to other restaurants Last trip. I've noticed mold on the ceiling and around the air ducts. Sorry, but this is kinda nasty and a health hazard. You management needs to clean that up professionally befor we will be back
