Absolutely loved my experience dining here! I ordered their Kuro Ramen, and the food was great. The service was friendly, fast, and polite. The interior was clean and had an nice ambience. I also appreciate their use of digital, QR-Code menus. Would dine here again!

Our family can't stop talking about this place! We ordered chicken Katsu curry and different types of Ramen; we haven't had anything this good since our trip to Japan. They had many great options to choose from. The peach soda, mango tea, and pomegranate lemonade drinks were so refreshing! Service was great, presentation was great. A little outside of Chinatown, but DEFINITELY worth it! Our favorite place we went to in Chicago.

This place is awesome! We got the spicy miso ramen, curry udon, wasabi octopus, and fried shrimp. Everything was super tasty and beyond other Japanese ramen restaurants in the city. The food was flavorful and comforting, just what we needed after a long day. Molly was so sweet and made us feel really welcome. The place has a cute, cozy vibe and a big menu with lots of food and drink options. They stay open late, which is perfect for a late-night meal. Free parking is a plus. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area and want something delicious and satisfying. We’ll be back for sure!

I ordered out takeout from this place, via UberEats. I was in the ER, and starving. I ordered the spicy garlic edamame and the Kuro Ramen. After digging in and eating half the edamame, I saw a hair on one of edamame, and I immediately requested a refund. So I go home after the ER, and ask for a refund for the ramen because I was afraid hair was in it. But ubereats denied me. So two days later, because I’m sick, so I made pack ramen. I decided to use the extra ingredients that I paid for, and couldn’t get a refund for, in my pack ramen. As I sift through the ingredients and start putting them in a bowl, I see ANOTHER HAIR in my ramen, on my egg.. crazy because I wasn’t gonna use the egg at all, but something told me to just check. And there it was. To Kuro, please ensure your staff are wearing hairnets. And to future customers, best of luck to you!

Discovered Kuro Ramen upon making a last minute stop for dinner with a date and enjoyed it. Food was delicious and the drinks were just as great! Staff were very kind to me and my company and we left feeling satisfied. Will definitely be visiting again, thank you for your hospitality!

My first time in chicago, the ramen is so good, so is the chicken, so are the drinks! I hope to come back to chicago soon! (3 days ago)

Google
This place was excellent! In true Japanese style, the service was hospitable and fast! Dishes came out so fast, hot and fresh. We went in without reservation and got seated right away. I would definitely come back and try more off the menu. We didn't have a bad dish.

Yelp
A near perfect late night hangout place. The ramen was great. The appetizers were nice. The menu is quite vast for a late night joint. and the quality is there. It is friendly and inviting. Nestled away in canal street this is a great place to catch with friends especially if you are a night owl. The vegetarian options are great too. Looking forward to seeing them grow and become a Chicago staple.

Yelp
Kuro Ramen featured a wide range selection of Japanese dishes that left us craving for more! Food: 5/5 We savored the following delectable dishes: Gyu Don (Beef Bowl): The Gyu Don was a true masterpiece of flavor and texture. Tender slices of succulent beef, simmered to perfection in a savory-sweet sauce, were served atop a bed of steaming white rice. The rich umami of the beef combined with the subtle sweetness of the sauce created a symphony of flavours. Chicken Karaage: The Chicken Karaage was crispy and succulent. Each piece of chicken was expertly marinated in a blend of Japanese seasonings, then coated in a light, crispy batter and deep-fried to golden perfection. The result was juicy and flavorful chicken with a satisfying crunch, making it an irresistible treat for both the palate and the senses. Service: 5/5 The service at Kuro Ramen was attentive and friendly, ensuring that our dining experience was enjoyable. Ambiance: 5/5 The ambiance of Kuro Ramen was elevated by the warm Leon lights display on the wall, casting a soft and inviting illumination throughout the restaurant. Combined with modern decor and soft lighting, the Leon lights created a cozy and intimate atmosphere, perfect for savoring our meal and immersing ourselves in the flavors of Japan. Price: 5/5 The prices for the dishes at Kuro Ramen were reasonable, offering good value for the quality and portion sizes provided. We look forward to returning to Kuro Ramen for more delicious meals in the future!

Yelp
Kuro Ramen is located in a small plaza (with free parking) slightly tucked away from all the main attractions and restaurants in Chinatown. There isn't much pedestrian traffic in that area, so it can be hard for people to notice the restaurants there. Early on in the year, there was another ramen restaurant that couldn't stay open for more than 6 months due to the fact, so every now and then, I try my best to visit the restaurants at that plaza. That is how I discovered Kuro Ramen. The restaurant is fairly new, and they did an excellent job with the decor. It is family owned and operated. The menu is interesting, there are some dishes you won't find at your typical ramen place so it's always nice to try new items. My friend and I ordered the following - - Appetizer: Honey Mustard Diced Pepper Steak. The sauce was creamy, peppery and delicious but the steak was extremely chewy. (3/5) - Mains: Beef Tomato Udon and Curry Udon - the noodles in both dishes were cooked well, but the broths (for both) were very bland, and the meat quality wasn't really the best or the most appetizing. It was really fatty. (3/5) - Drinks: Hojicha Latte - delicious! Highly recommend you try this! (5/5)

Yelp
Great ramen, Delicious appetizers like tornado Potato, I love the melon Soda floats. The staff is friendly and consistently good service. Awesome neon sign inside and cute Shibas greet you as you enter

Yelp
I liked that this cute ramen place had a clean aesthetic, free indoor parking attached to the backside of the restaurant. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and I felt like while it was good, it didn't stand out amongst other ramen places that I have eaten at in Chicago. The food I would say is a 3.5/5. The aesthetic and ambiance is a 4.5/5, very clean interior, cute mascot, efficient waitstaff. One thing I didn't like as much as that I felt a little bit rushed at the end of my meal. The restaurant was almost empty and the waitress came back repeatedly to ask if I was done and if I was ready to check out.

Yelp
So happy to have another ramen shop by Chinatown. We came for lunch during a weekday when it wasn't busy at all. Service was quick- we order from a phone and they bring it o us. The food was yummy. We enjoyed our ramen. Casual Place. They look to have a lot of carry outs via Uber eats or door dash.
google avatar

Yelp
This is such a cute spot! I've been here twice and look forward to going again. I ordered one of the vegetarian ramens and man, the flavor is just so good. Often people just add a strong mushroom flavor to a base but this is something else. I switched from ramen noodles to udon because I just love a thicker noodle. The service here is fine, not sure about the complaints, even though I was semi choking and had to ask for more water. I haven't tried anything else, but I'll def be back for more ramen.

Yelp
After many tries with the place, I can't give them a 5 stars. If there's a 0.5 stars, I would probably rate them 3.5 instead of four. We ordered takeout from here a couple of times, and the kids and I actually went here to eat once. Service when we were there was actually pretty slow. They only had one server, and they had a couple of tables when we were there. The food came slightly late, in my opinion. The appetizer should've come before the entree, but it came after the entree was served. So it was kinda disappointing. For take out. The latest takeout was yesterday. That was what prompted me to write this review. I love chilled tofu and was craving for it. So I ordered from this place. When I received the food, it was leaking so bad. Luckily, they wrapped it in a small bag so it didn't leak to the plastic bag. The container that they chose its not for stuff that has a liquid in it. I ate it but couldn't finish it because the liquid is what it is supposed to make it taste good. Price point. I can't say that this place is cheap but I don't mind. Everything is expensive these days, anyway. The place is okay. It's clean. They have free parking in the building, so that's a plus. They're also open late until 11.30 PM if I'm not mistaken. Overall, not the place to go, but maybe we'll order from here since they're open late.

Yelp
Service was quick and food was delicious! We got two spicy miso ramens and an order of gyoza. Everything was great!

Yelp
The ramen here is good, but we also ordered popcorn chicken and fries and they were a little hard. We were also having trouble ordering through their QR code so we had to ask the waitress to help us order which was fine, she was helpful. We didn't wait too long to get served and we were getting checked up on. However my daughter is very cheesy and goofy, she was smiling at the waitress and when i looked at my daughter then looked at her she made a face towards my daughter which i did not appreciate. We also brought our 2 month old baby with us and when we were leaving he started crying because we put him in the car seat. The waitress was just watching us by the register almost as if she was telling us to hurry up. Mind you, there was nobody else in the restaurant at this time. We felt rushed as if she wanted us out of there ASAP. Nonetheless we tipped and left. The atmosphere is nice, a lot of windows so you do get a lot of natural lighting in there. Overall, good ramen but not kid friendly.

Yelp
My daughters love this place. Staff is very polite. Food is great. Every tastes fresh

Yelp
I like the soup base of the ramen here. Their fries, tornado potato and fried calamari are also very tasty! Kuro Ramen is solid restaurant for large and small parties. The parking is also very conveniently located upstairs in the top of the complex. No reservation is necessary here and very dependable on having tables available for walk-ins.

Yelp
3 stars for the food because I thought it was just OK. 5 stars for service and ambiance. This Ramen Restaurant is located on the corner of Canal and Archer. Parking is free, which is a huge plus for me. We came as a party of 4. We ordered 2 appetizer and 4 entree. The takoyaki and chicken karaage was freshly made, piping hot, but nothing special in my opinion that blew my mind away. The Kuro Ramen's broth lacked flavor, the toppings was a good amount. Only came with 2 small slices of pork belly. Compared to other places I've eaten at the pork belly is small. Kuro fried their pork belly too, which is not typical of ramen places I've tried. The half soft boiled egg was spot on, gooey center. The spicy miso ramen broth has a little more flavor, same toppings as the Kuro Ramen. The service was good, but I'm sure it's the fact that we were the only customers there. Waitress was attentive and was proactive in bringing extra bowls after hearing we plan to share all the food. Glad to have been able to try a new restaurant.

Yelp
This place is so cute and it's open late night and there's easy parking and usually no wait - what's not to love?? Oh they are also BYOB! It wasn't clear from their website but we called and they said it's okay to bring alcohol. I was really impressed by the awesome variety of Japanese food items they had and it seemed authentic. The karaage was THE best I've had outside of Japan. My recommendation, weird as it is considering the name of the restaurant, is NOT to get the ramen here. It was not bad but nothing mindblowing and a little bland. Defs come here and try other things like their Karage and don and seaweed fries and udon noodles. I will come back to try more!
google avatar

Zoe D.

Yelp
For the food, I might give 3.5 star. Server is friendly, decoration is clean. Chicken karage (4.5+ )surprised me, I'd love to gave 4.5+ if there's one more piece of lemon; Kuro Ramen and Kastu Don are little bit disappointed. (3 )I'm a crazy cheese lover, but have to say the Cheese on the Don is a minus... black garlic is a great flavor, but too heavy makes the soup base too bitter. So maybe (3- ) If there's an option for thick noodle, will be up for other ramen.
google avatar

KELLY M.

Yelp
Came here to have lunch with my love. We got ramens and appetizer. I would say not bad. The broth is rich. We order appetizer chicken karage and two bowl of ramen. I would come back again. There is parking on the street. There are sushi but I didn't order it.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to eat here after seeing the large neon sign - "The only men I love is ramen." A motto to live by if you ask me. To start, I had the melon soda float. It was delicious - didn't taste too artificial nor too sweet. As for appetizers, I tried the calamari and takoyaki (octopus balls). The calamari was fantastic! The batter was crisp and the squid was cooked perfectly. On the other hand, while the toppings on the takoyaki were enjoyable, the batter was still a bit raw on the inside. As for the star of the show - the ramen. I ordered the Kuro Ramen (black garlic tonkatsu). It had a very strong garlic flavor, as expected. Presentation was beautiful. The pork was very tender. It was an enjoyable bowl of ramen - not the best I've ever had - but it was still delicious. Our waitress was really friendly and welcoming :) Kuro Ramen is also open pretty late, so definitely a good place to go for your Japanese food craving fix.
google avatar

Vivi Z.

Yelp
Decided to come here on Christmas because it was cold and I was craving for something hot. There's free parking inside the plaza which leads you straight into the restaurant so that was nice. I had the Kuro ramen and thought that it was very flavorful in terms of the garlic. I didn't try the curry gyu don but my mom loved it a lot. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving ramen again. I like this place more than Daifuku at the square.
google avatar

Stacy H.

Yelp
true rating = 2.5 stars. My husband and I got curry gyu don, chicken karaage, and kimchi fries. Everything was mediocre at best. The gyu don had barely any non-fatty meat pieces. Also the meat to rice ratio is extremely low. Very disappointed by this dish. The kimchi fries were oooookay but I definitely had better. There was too much sour cream compared to the rest of the toppings. Wish there was more kimchi Lastly, the chicken karaage was probably the best of the three but not as crunchy as I'd like. Probably will not order from here again as there are plenty of other ramen places with better food.

Nicolas C.

Yelp
Helpful staff. Nice vibes. Food was good. Prices are what you would expect nowadays from a ramen place. Would recommend if someone looking for a ramen place near China town without having the troubles of endlessly looping around looking for parking.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
PLEASE START LABELING YOUR TOGO ORDERS. How is anyone supposed to know what is what in Togo orders. A whole thing because we couldn't agree which broth was vegetarian.
google avatar

Cindy G.

Yelp
Sunday lunch with my friend and our kids. Everything we ordered was good. Staffs were super friendly. The passion fruit iced tea was delicious on this hot summer day. The seaweed shaken fries is something new, pretty tasty. Love the Don Don noodle, you can ask for less or more spice. My friend loves the curry katsu- crispy and sauce was delish. There's a parking lot and easy parking in front is a plus. Will recommend to come back again !
google avatar

Julie Y.

Yelp
The cute branding of this place suckered me in, but sadly we were sorely disappointed. They seemed pretty understaffed as there was only one server for the entire (small) restaurant. Even as one of the earlier diners, it took us 30 minutes to get our food. We each ordered a ramen, and a side of tempura vegetables. When the ramen arrived, I was immediately a bit disappointed. I have never seen wakame in ramen (maybe...maybe in miso ramen?). It felt very out of place. The chashu was thin, lean, and chewy. The thick, melty chashu you normally find with ramen was nowhere to be found! The broth was also pretty bland. We thought they forgot about our tempura, but it arrived a few minutes after we were finished with our ramen. The battery was crispy, but thick and not as light as you'd expect tempura to be. Overall, it didn't feel like an authentic experience and I'd give it a skip.

Yelp
I was hungry after work... so I decided to checkout the new place down the street from home.... A little bit of everything... for appetizer I got the spicy garlic edamame it was not bad, couldn't taste the garlic but the spicy was there.... I like the bacon wrap quail eggs and those were good, seaweed salad is the same like most places, and then there is the salmon don... that bowl hit the spot.. All I wanted was rice, fish, and veggies... and then a couple of sides to go with it... but the best treat was the melon float... it was not just a drink, for me it was also dessert... who would have thought melon soda and a scoop of vanilla ice cream... two of my favorite things... it was so good it completed me... Customer Service was great and pleasant... I had a couple of questions and they help me with the menu... Next time I have to come back and try other things on the menu and bring people with me...
google avatar

Crystal L.

Yelp
Both food and hospitality is amazing. Server was so patient to explain their food. I love the assorted Japanese cuisine in this restaurant. Highly recommend for Japanese enthusiasts in Chicago.
google avatar

Mackenzie B.

Yelp
I forgot to take photos because I was so hungry and everything looked too good :'( I'm really surprised this place isn't more popular! The ramen I've tried is the Kuro Ramen and Spicy Miso, both very good. I didn't expect the chashu to be as thick, but I won't complain about more meat! They are a little more expensive than the other ramen shops in town, however the portion size is great and so is the flavor - I think it's worth it. The owner and waitstaff are very kind and take their time to help in any way (including bringing you a fork if you're not chopstick savvy, haha) I'm going back later today to try more of the menu because this may turn into my new late night spot in Chinatown! Fingers crossed I get photos before I eat this time haha

Bunny G.

Yelp
I tried to like the place but I didn't . I had food here twice and each time the ramen is bland. You get more flavor and depth from an instant ramen package than ordered here. Despite it being a ramen shop, the fries and deep fried eggplant tastes great than the shops namesake. Also, pricing is confusing. You see one prices are confusing since the in store menu seems like it's a lower price from where you actually order. Honestly, if you want ramen either go a few blocks and there's better ramen places than here or get yourself instant ramen. I understand why I rarely see people in this shop.
google avatar

Tam C.

Yelp
Decided to try this place out on a whim. Honestly, this may be the worst ramen place I've been to. Broth tasted like straight up water. Don't recommend.

Yelp
In town for the weekend and always looking for something new to try. Place has a great vibe to it when you walk in. Nice and clean with a modern touch. Food was great, lots of flavor and great portions. My boyfriend and I shared the Kuro ramen, spiced garlic edamame, and the tornado potato. Service was phenomenal and staff was very friendly. We ate everything on our plate!

Yesi V.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Great service and staff and I even noticed the plating loved the whole experience. Natalie our waiter was very attentive and very friendly. The sushi was exceptional! You have to try the shrimp tempura sushi best I've ever had. Over all, a must try in Chicago!
google avatar

Recipe T.

Yelp
I got a chance to try their Kuro Ramen. There was not anything special about the broth, the broth was kind of weak in terms of flavoring. The noodles are normal and it's very unlikely they make their noodles fresh, which is fine but I felt it wasn't prepared properly. "You're better off using Suns Noodles if possible. If you are using Suns Noodles, your temp/time is way off." The egg was a huge disappointment, it was small and had almost no flavor. The highlight was actually the bamboo shoot, which saved the review from becoming a 1 star.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
The good is amazing, we enjoyed a lot of appetizers such as the chicken karaage, seaweed salad, the tornado potatoes, Kim chi fries, & fried calamari! I usually get the Kuro Raman and Tokyo shoyu ramen. If I want something lighter I get the spicy miso ramen. The service is great and everyone is always so nice & welcoming. The ambiance and vibe is so nice and they open later in the weekend. A good ramen spot near Bridgeport/Armour Square area.

Khoa N.

Yelp
I tried deep fry gyoza, tornado potato and spicy tonkotsu ramen. Everything's good, the ramen was a little bit spicy, but I love it. I definitely will come back.

Jay H.

Yelp
The signature dish is very well done. Fast service. The place is pretty clean plus the music make the place wholesome

Frances C.

Yelp
The only men I love is ramen! My girlfriend and I tried this place a couple weeks ago and the food was AMAZING. The beef skewers were super juicy and flavorful, the fish cake skewer was nice and crispy, and we got something called a Tornado Potato that blew our very stoned minds. The ramen itself was incredible. I got curry beef udon which was very cozy and comforting; she got a very rich chashu pork ramen. We shared a green tea with passion fruit jam on the bottom. The music was great, a lot of J-pop that I hadn't heard before. The servers were very nice. We're going back tonight with friends, so we can try the rest of the menu.
google avatar

Ferastic B.

Yelp
Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. It's just very mediocre food for its price. No way the quality is on par with how much they charge. Tasteless Tonkotsu ramen, which is what they specialize in.
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
Excellent new ramen option especially good if you prefer ramen that's a bit less salty. Really good sides and apps as well. Nice food presentation, good atmosphere inside, and parking at the mall is super easy right now!
google avatar

Will M.

Yelp
Not currently recommended. I'd go spicy miso or garlic as basic tonkotsu is a miss. Wish they used a thinner egg noodle that was cooked right before serving to absorb more broth and broth was better. Pork doesn't need to be browned and crunchy as it's in the soup. Service was lacking for us. waiters having to do online orders and manager couldn't rule out shellfish in ramen, which is possible in other ramen shops. it's not on a busy walking area. But there is free parking in garage. I'd come back for something different if they offered Japanese sandwiches or I heard sushi was good value as I'm sure the chefs are good at cooking some foods. But for me just warning you to order spicy ramen and not basic.
google avatar

Jeanie C.

Yelp
My favorite ramen place!!! Broth is deep and flavorful (have had the Kuro, tonkatsu, and spicy miso and they were ALL good). Fried calamari is light and crispy, probably the best I've ever had. Kimchi fries were also really good! And the Tonkatsu rice dish is really good as well! I usually get an appetizer, ramen, and tonkatsu and it's the perfect amount for me and my partner.

Jack J.

Yelp
The name sounds like a Japanese ramen restaurant but in reality it is a Chinese restaurant serving food with the absolute cheapest Ingredients available on the market. What they say is gyoza is common cheap Chinese dumplings. They actually give both Japanese and Chinese food a bad reputation. There is good Chinese food but this is BAD Chinese food.

Isaac B.

Yelp
The food was incredible and quick. The employees were very kind, talkative and helpful. Clean and great atmosphere!

Yelp
So this place just opened and has a cute shibu or corgi as the logo. If the new ramen smell or dog doesn't draw you in, I don't know what will. We decided to get takeout from the place and it was ok honestly. Everything is fine but just a little above average. Went with the regular tonkotsu ramen and it was good. Not too salty or anything but not amazing either. We got takeout late afternoon on a weekday and the restaurant was pretty empty. They offer a lunch special which includes soup, salad and a drink for a few menu items. Worth a try if you are dining in depending on your comfort levels. I know the world has evolved in terms of comfort levels like the style of your ramen, well done mush, super firm etc and whatever that is is okay. You miss the dining experience, go for it, you rather isolate and takeout, go for it. When I got home the broth was still pretty hot and they keep everything seperate so takeout isn't an issue. My pork belly slices were thicker than my sisters and less charred so they are a little inconsistent. It's nice to have this place around but I'm not sure I would return. The black garlic tonkatsu does sound interesting though. The parking lot is a big plus and there is a back entrance directly to the lot but it looks like one of those shit lots where they decided car door dings were more important than offering wider but less spaces.

Yelp
Got the Kuro ramen. Decent value (similar to Daifuku), would come again! They have kids seat and have courteous staff. Recommend!

Denisse M.

Yelp
I loved this place very much. One because I'm a dog person and the whole logo is cute. My husband and I decided to try this new place, we both love ramen and my hubby is a ramen chef himself. So you know his criticisms are going to be in another level. We order the Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen. , sushi rolls, takoyaki and the grilled chicken on a stick. We were both satisfied with the everything. The ramen broth was very flavorful, but the pork slices were my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of fatty pork meat, but this one had some meat and less fat, just how I love it. My husband's favorite was the sushi, he liked the ramen as well but he said the meat can be less tough other than that he enjoyed it. The chicken was delicious as well and I will definitely be getting those as appetizers again. Overall 4.5/5 for the food The place itself is very clean and I love the decor, they have Japanese music playing in the back. The whole ambience gives me a warm welcome vibe. Overall 5/5 for the ambiance itself. Costumer service was very impressive. They are very tented to the costumers and they explain the menu to you if you're a first timer. The waitress was very nice indeed and always had a smile on her face. Overall 5/5 for the costumer service. I highly recommend this place.

Elvylene Y.

Yelp
Have seen this place and finally tried it today. I would agree with the reviews. Place is clean and inviting, ample parking (street or rear) and waitress was helpful. Ordered the black garlic ramen, grilled chicken over rice and a side of calamari. Food was delicious and flavorful. The soup was superb and portions are just right. The calamari was cooked to perfection although personally, I would prefer the body parts than the tentacles. The grilled chicken (somehow I tasted it as fried) was reminiscent of teriyaki/bbq chicken combined. Overall, I would recommend this as a to go place for non fancy but delicious food!

Lisa D.

Yelp
Come here for takoyaki or tonkatsu. Their fried foods are superior to the ramen. The tonkatsu was one of the best I have tasted in Chicago. Really tender meat. Ramen broth is good but noodles were overcooked and meat and egg are subpar.

Christine T.

Yelp
I can't say we tried anything that was a "wow" factor but it was still good. We were greeted with a smile. The waitress, Natalie was very friendly. Probably need to come back and try some other food on the menu.
google avatar

Cayla S.

Yelp
Curious why rating was low here cause Google reviews are raving. So I'll give my 2 cent. I love the food. Staffs are courteous. Menu looks enticing. And the great pointer for any business is that when you wanna go back and try for more... I won't hesitate to come back and support local businesses. Cheers!

James T.

Yelp
there are many ramen restaurants in chicago with better food and much better service.

J M.

Yelp
Incredible ramen and appetizer dishes. That signature ramen is a must-try. Best ramen in town.
