The 15 Best New Restaurants in Tokyo | Eater

"Kyo-Aji alumnus and one-time Iron Chef Jun Kurogi has made his move uptown. Regulars will miss the old premises— a wonderful, atmospheric former geisha house — but not the location in the seedy alleys of Yushima. His sleek new digs in Daimon are far more worthy of his intricate hyperseasonal multicourse Japanese cuisine." - Robbie Swinnerton

Note for tourists: standard is a minimum of one order per person, this can include drinks. You must order and pay first, then they will assign you a seat. The entrance is on the outside of the building, please do not use the interior indoor (department store) entrance. Delicious kakegori, very fine ice with special fillings inside. Simple and delicate. We had the seasonal Strawberry, but the Matcha and Kinako (soybean flour) was great as well.

Ultra-premium ingredients. Price is about 2-3x similar quality washoku meals and ranks probably as the most expensive in Tokyo, and maybe Japan. The amount of food served is very large, roughly about 1.5-1.75x other high end washoku meals. Most guests take bentos home. I personally found this volume of food overwhelming. Kurogi-san is not always cooking, which was very surprising to me given the reputation and price point.

【Google Translation】I went there about a year ago. 💦 The staff were all cheerful and joking, it was like a comedy theater (lol) It was fun to see them prepare wonderful food while preparing it right in front of you. However, the portions are quite large, so please eat while adjusting your meal by leaving some leftovers. At the end, they will make a bento for you. I went there at the beginning of July, and at that time they used ingredients such as conger eel and soft-shelled turtle. The price and menu (ingredients) seem to change depending on the season. But they always serve somen noodles topped with plenty of caviar. This is really really delicious and my favorite! It's a unique taste that you can't get at other restaurants. It's also fun to be able to choose your eggs♩ They also serve about two types of rice, so you'll be so full that it's painful. I'm so happy to be able to make a bento and eat it the next day.
