These 7 MICHELIN Hotels in Asia are All About Bougie Baths

"Kurulu Bay is an intimate eco-resort with just 14 suites, perfectly perched on the shores of Koggala Lake, an ecologically rich lagoon on Sri Lanka’s south coast, just a stone’s throw from Ahangama Beach. For a truly serene escape, book the Banyan, a charming two-bedroom cottage nestled on a hillside, surrounded by lush greenery and offering sweeping views over the lake. Inside, the deep wooden tones create a cosy sanctuary, and the bathroom features a luxurious tub that invites you to soak while immersing yourself in the tranquil surroundings." - Faye Bradley

Kurulu Bay (Ahangama, South-West Coast) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s named not for an ocean bay, but for its setting on the shores of Koggala Lake, a large and environmentally significant natural lagoon on the south coast of Sri Lanka, just inland from the spectacular Ahangama Beach. Kurulu Bay is an eco-resort that makes the most of its surroundings, which include a bird sanctuary and a vast expanse of dense lakeside forest. And it’s a hotel of some artistic distinction as well, built as it is around the Kurulu House, a residence built by the highly regarded local architect Channa Daswatte." - Tablet Hotels

Beautiful, tranquil resort set in lush gardens amongst the jungle and over looking the lake. Kurulu Bay was perfect in every way.|Peter, Tijana and their whole team are incredible - so caring and thoughtful; nothing is too much trouble. I felt so well looked after staying here.|I had some wonderful treatments at the spa - the signature massage was my favourite - and the restaurant is next level! Beautiful, nourishing food served up fresh every day.|I hope to return one day.

Kurulu Bay was my home for five nights as part of a private yoga retreat. The experience offered by the property and staff is truly special. The rooms are beautifully designed and appointed, and the jungle in which they are housed is perfectly maintained. A range of wildlife also call the property their home, including some very entertaining monkeys.|The resort is secluded, however the local town of Ahangama is accessible on foot or a short tuk tuk ride, although there is no reason to want to leave the property! |The food served by the restaurant is fresh and tasty, with a wide range of Sri Lankan and western offerings available.|The staff is what makes this place exceptional. Petar and Tiana are wonderful and attentive hosts, and go above and beyond to ensure your stay is the best possible. Thank you both for a magnificent week at Kurulu Bay. I cannot wait to return 🐒

Simply outstanding hospitality and staff!! Such a classy & elegant boutique hotel, enveloped in nature, beautiful lake views, so meditative and beautiful sitting out at night, beautiful rooms, its run so professionally but yet feels homely not like a soulless big hotel, wonderful restaurant, pool, spa. Its a recharge for body and mind. Watching the fireflies at night was such a sweet experience. The jetty with the loungers is such a great spot for evenings! Day trip to Yala arranged by hotel was very convenient too.|Thank you so much for making our stay so special! <3 :)

A wonderful, serene oasis. The staff go out of their way to make guests feel at home and nothing is too much for them. Best customer service ever in a hotel with outstanding attention to detail. The jetty overlooking the lake is sensational. We had an unforgettable stay.

Kurulu Bay is a true hidden gem — a dreamy oasis tucked away in the lush jungle. The atmosphere is chic yet peaceful, surrounded by incredible vegetation and with a stunning view over the lake. Every detail is thoughtfully curated, creating a sense of harmony and comfort. The food was absolutely exceptional — possibly the best we’ve ever had. Each meal was a delightful experience, full of flavor and freshness. What truly made our stay unforgettable was the team. Every single staff member was kind, professional, and genuinely warm. A special thank you to Sadar, the manager, who went above and beyond to make us feel at home. We can’t wait to return.

Stylish, trendy hotel in a beautiful setting in a forest by Koggala Lake, about 15mins from Ahangama. |When you walk in, you’re struck by the beautiful landscaped gardens that surround this hotel. Full of old palm trees and frangipani trees that are full of birds and monkeys, right in front of the lake. ||The architecture is cool - lots of concrete, wood, glass with big windows and sliding doors everywhere to give the impression you’re outside and in nature. However, the garden room I was staying in looked a bit tired. Creaky floor boards, uncomfortable sofa, beds could have been more comfortable with better bedding/pillows or four poster style for the mosquito nets. Bathrooms| was fairly basic and with no tiles meant the normal walls looked a bit discoloured from the water. ||The star of the show for me was the spot they hold yoga classes (which is on the balcony of the owners villa). Really stunning views up there over the lake, surrounded by trees full of monkeys that come and watch you doing yoga at sunset. Maia’s yoga classes were brilliant, defo recommend! ||The restaurant was very nice. The half board options were very generous - recommend the tacos if they have them on special. However everything is very open so if it has rained there are a lot of mosquitos everywhere. ||The pool was stunning but I thought it was a bit weird the sun loungers were lower down/ in front of it and just facing trees with no umbrellas for shade (the lake view was restricted because of the mangroves - which are very beautiful but felt a bit enclosed). |Staff were very nice and friendly and helpful. |Spa was ok but had better massages (for less money) in other places in Sri Lanka.

Incredible ! Spa day was dreamy. Massage with Dr Pushna was full-on Ayurvedic experience, food was 10/10, setting is beautiful with all the trees and nature. Petar and his staff were exceptionally welcoming. It’s a must. Well worth the 150USD for the day.
