A different kind of Japanese in Paris!
Specialised in “brochettes”, Kushikatsu Bon seems to be the only spot in Paris offering this staple Japanese dish in such a high level of quality.
At first when entering, you can feel the professionalism by the greeting of the staff and hotel as well as the table setup and service. The cute pieces on the table are not only beautiful, they also each have a use. You are asked to choose between a two set menus with one having the last skewer chicken, the other being wagyu. I went for the chicken.
After a brief intro of the sauces and the chef’s presentation of the raw skewers that will be served, the show starts!
Superb amuse-bouche, with amazing salsifi and mushroom. Tofu was not my favorite but was followed by a comforting asparagus and mushroom. Chef continued with seafood skewers including shrimp and fish which were also very nice.
A transition happened with a very original potato mini-onigiri (which is more surprising than tasty) that took then the show to another level. The skewers kept on only getting better: a magret de canard skewer as well as a foie gras skewer made flambée, small transition with a super cold noodle soup, then a very juicy chateaubriand steak skewer and a conclusion with a beautiful chicken skewer on a plate with the chef’s personally writing your name with sauce on the plate.
The cherry on the top of the cake was the delicious desserts, coming for a not-so-dessert person that I am.
Overall, Kushikatsu Bon is definitely a must try in Paris, and also definitely a restaurant that will go places in the future. I was intrigued by watching the chef measure the table setting with a ruler with his staff, and this showed how much attention to detail is spent at this location. What is even better is that after having a set menu full of fried items, you do mot fill bloated or bad at all! On the contrary, you feel like you just went through a very nice typical Japanese experience.
