Kuta Beach is a solid choice if you’re looking to try surfing for the first time. The waves are decent, not too strong, and perfect for beginners. Swimming is technically possible here, but you won’t really enjoy it — the place is packed with surfers, especially in the afternoon.
If you’ve never surfed before, I highly recommend taking a surfing lesson — it’s a lot of fun! But be smart:
💸 The usual price for a 2-hour lesson directly with an instructor is 150,000 IDR.
🏫 If you go through a surf school, expect to pay at least 250,000 IDR.
💡 Pro tip: Take one lesson through the school, then deal directly with the same instructor outside the school. That way, you pay less (even 100,000 IDR) and the instructor earns more — since schools usually only pay them 100k anyway. Just don’t mention this to the school. 😏
The beach itself is a bit dirty, and there are crowds everywhere, especially at sunset. But oh, those sunsets… 🌅 Absolutely stunning. I highly recommend grabbing a seat at one of the beach bars or little tables set up along the upper side of the beach.
❗️Important tip: Don’t pay for a table — the legit ones are free as long as you order drinks. If someone asks you to pay for the table itself, just walk away.
💰 Prices are fairly reasonable:
•	Local beer (330ml can): ~30,000 IDR
•	Fresh coconut: ~40,000 IDR
So overall, Kuta is worth visiting, especially for surfing and sunsets, but don’t expect a peaceful beach day or crystal-clear water.
