Q-Tine Review - Logan Square - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Picture this, a plate of fried cheese sticks covered in marinara sauce and topped with pepperoni. It's like a sophisticated take on a deconstructed pizza, which sounds pretty awesome to us, and we assume you too. Well poutine is basically the Montreal version of that, a mashup of all sorts of unhealthy yet delicious toppings piled onto fries, and there’s no real reason it shouldn’t taste good. It's why we were pretty pumped for Q-Tine’s take on Memphis style meats in classic Montreal poutine form. And it’s also why we were pretty let down by the fact none of it is all that good. Everything about this poutine tastes kind of cheap, from the french fries to the toppings. And don’t get us wrong, cheap can be delicious, but when you base your entire restaurant around different versions of poutine, you can’t really skate by on mediocre fries. Q-Tine has very mediocre fries. We’d be fine with them as a side filler to a good sandwich or steak, but as the basis of a meal? Not so much. The variety of ingredients that come on the fries are also equally as disappointing. The classic gravy and cheese curd version is generic at best, and the specialty versions are where things start to go south. Q-Tine does have one redeeming quality though in that maybe it caters to the late night/drunk scene, which is pretty much the crowd we expect to see here at all times. And that's partially because Q-Tine is only ever open when you're drunk anyway - they open at 4:00pm daily and either close at 2:00am or 4:00am depending on the day of the week. So if you stumble in here after a good night of boozing and dancing at Slippery Slope across the street, then sure, it could give you what you need. But that probably still depends on how much you've had to drink." - Sam Faye

Google
Spent the afternoon with my kids and this is where they suggested we grab lunch. The customer service was nice ,the environment was clean. There are tables to sit at as well as just order to go. Its a mixture of Korean and Mediterranean flavors/food. They have alotta snacks and desserts as well. I should have asked for a menu to go. I enjoyed mostly everything. Definitely gonna return. N yes,I recommend

Google
I love this place! If you're looking for a taste of authentic korean food, this is where you need to go. They're so kind and the food is delicious. They sang happy birthday to one of the staff members while I was there and it was so wholesome! 생일 축하 해요 🎉

Pod Q.

Google
Gryo and bibimbop burger were quite fresh and well put together. Has gas station appearance but the food outshines it.

Google
Consistently the best food in the city. You can’t go wrong with the eclectic menu. For years my favorite item was the Hey Zeus although a couple years back I fell in love with the Bi Bim Bop. Today, it was the Kim Chi chicken burrito. Try something new and enjoy this Memphis jewel. Update: yep, still delicious and best casual meal in town.

Google
This place is a hybrid of a stop and go shop and a small restaurant. You order your food at the counter. You can buy the chips and drinks separate. The sandwiches are good. I highly recommend the kimchi fried rice.

Lydian C.

Google
This place isn't a hidden gem, but it's certainly an underhyped one. The food here is INSANELY good. I'm in the process of eating a giant veggie muffuletta rn and it's so good that I think I might pass away. 100/10

Hunter D.

Google
My favorite muffaletta in this city. This place has been a staple in this city for decades now. Always a solid choice. *Korean noodle soup and half a spicy muffaletta . 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Dorje M.

Google
Cozy little spot, just right for a kwik lunch. Burger was excellently complex and unique. Lots of fun snacks to choose from. Very Memphis. Cheers 🍻

Yelp
This is my go to quick eat stop in mid town if you like bibimbap or a gyro or muffuletta. They are a simple order at the counter almost deli style setup and it is fast and the staff are very friendly. My go to lunch is a sandwich and they are all good and my go to dinner is either their bibimbap or burger!

Yelp
Its been a long time Kwik Chek but your food continues to not disappoint in the least. Its been almost 20 years since, and I dont remember there being Korean food? (I could be wrong) Anyway wife had a falafel plate which was decent. Good falafel (could be better seasoned!) nice chewy texture and not oily or tasting like the fryer, baba ganoush and tzatziki like sauce were about the equal. Came with nicely toasted and seasoned greek style pita cut into corners. I got the "kabab" with chicken, which in my hungry state figured for the mediterranean thing (despite the spelling and like a big dummy) and not the spicy, mushroom and onions stir fried Korean thing that came out. THAT was great! Better than the falafel plate, absolutely would have again. It came on a small skillet, like fajitas might be served on, and obviously had been finished in an oven, giving the rice a chewier than average texture, really really liked this dish and glad I stumbled into it!. I do have to say though, this whole experience is minus one star for the mildly shitty flatlander treatment we got when ordering. Definitely had to "negotiate" a little and not return attitude with attitude, the lady taking our order really seemed to do so reluctantly. Anyway, crappy service is crappy service but I'll always return for something way better than average to eat, and a unique place.

Yelp
I love sandwiches and this definitely satisfies my cravings. Staff here is so nice and food comes out quickly. They also have Korean snacks, drinks, and food options which is good for those who want to venture into trying new food. It's a great place to grab some lunch or a snack. It's close to overton square so after you grab some food you can walk over to Berkshire or Sweet Noshings for some dessert!
google avatar

Art C.

Yelp
Ehhh... I admit it. I don't get the hype of this place. We waited a pretty long time for our sandwiches. We got the ninja and the pork roast hoagies... The quality of the meats weren't great. The sandwiches were just OK. Like I said... don't get the hype.
google avatar

Robyn J.

Yelp
It's just so good. Every time. We usually call ahead but eat there to make it a little faster. Everything else is awesome too, I just can't stop getting the soup!
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
I mean, it's no fancy palace, but if you are looking to shove something delicious in yo face, you've come to the right place. The Bi Bim Bap was tasty and well prepared, and the Kimchi burrito...hello?!? Kimchi burrito! This needs to be in the world. It'll burn ya, but you won't care, because the flavor slaps! In Memphis? Go here.
google avatar

Chloe P.

Yelp
Super yummy food in a random spot. When we pulled up it wasn't what we expected. But give it a shot because the food is great!
google avatar

Ellie F.

Yelp
This is a true hidden gem! It looks like a gas station, but they are serving delicious Mediterranean and Korean food. I recommend bringing a friend so you can give them a wonderful surprise.

Preston B.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches and Korean dishes. Beers galore! I love the Bi bim bop Hey Zeus, actually anything up on the menu board. The baclava is homemade and the ambience is mid-century night-owl linoleum. What's not to like? 5 stars!

Steve A.

Yelp
Ji you are awesome!!! Thank you and your family for all your hard work and dedication. I'm on vacation so won't be a regular but I will definitely be back before we leave. The best gyro meat I've had outside of Chicago. No contest. Obviously right off the spit and cooked to crispy yet juicy perfection. I have been eating homemade gyros since the 70's, growing up in an Assyrian neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago. I later spent over 20 years in the Chicago F&B industry professionally and was even a serviceable chef in a past life. I hate social media and have no idea what a foodie is, so Ji this is just for you. Also might be the best piece of baklava I've ever had. Wow!

Faith F.

Yelp
Bi bim bop & Korean noodle soup good. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ***
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
$25 for a 6 inch sandwich and a tofu bi bim bop. That seems excessive. I called in the order and picked it up so there was no 3rd party service charge they had to pay. What gives?

Elzo W.

Yelp
Tasty sandwiches. Not quite as tasty as they once were at half the price I'm not a regular here because the service is wayyy toooo slow. Over 30 minute wait for a sandwich is completely absurd

Nick J.

Yelp
And I thought Chinese sub shop was skimpy on the meat. This place takes it to a new level. Total waste of money.. unfortunately I had it delivered. All I tasted on the Ninja was bread, lettuce, and whatever sauce they put on it. This place was recommended by several people and had great reviews but fell wayyyy short. So many other places that serve better food for the price.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
This is a a hidden gem in the square. The food is amazing, the service is terrific, and it's a convenience store! I can't wait to go back - my mouth is salivating over that Ninja Sub.
google avatar

Martin M.

Yelp
DELIcious!! never would have thought to mix mediterranean and korean food, but it works heavenly so. could eat those veggie dumplings for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks too. the veggie pita sandwich was really good, the habanero sauce gave it the perfect kick. I'm going to be having some real hungry dreams tonight

Michaela D.

Yelp
Best muffuletta ever. Will feed 4. Total hidden gem! You gotta try this for delivery or takeout!
google avatar

Yelp
Racist establishment. Will not greet black guest. Waited in line for what seemed like forever. Completely ignored me and a couple other black guest who told me no one had greeted them at all. In walks a white guy and the employee immediately came to greet him and serve him as if we had just been standing there for decoration. Please go elsewhere. Black people stop spending your money at establishments that don't really care to serve you. Didn't get the food are there is no ambiance.
google avatar

Courtland M.

Yelp
This place was so good! We were skeptical at first. Korean and sandwiches? However we were pleased with our take out. The sandwiches and kimchi fried rice were great.
google avatar

Moon N.

Yelp
At first, I thought it is a restaurant. But when I got there, it's more like a food court inside a small convenient store. I ordered Bibimbap, which is very decent and plain. Not having enough sauce and not having options for non-spicy eater. Wouldn't recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I went to Kwik Chek today and I was very disappointed. I got the falafel plate which consisted of three pieces of falafel, peta wedges, hummus and taziki. The hummus was ok. The taziki had a small amount of cucumber in it .... it was pretty basic to say the least. The peta wedges were much too salty but edible as I had not eaten all day and was hungry. The falafel was so dry and hard that it was completely inedible. I told the employee about the falafel and she brings me one more of the same dry, hard falafel. Dry, hard, and cold to be exact. Actually, I find it hard to believe that a restaurant would serve something so awful. Again, I went to the counter and spoke with an employee who told me they fry the falafel the night before then warm it in an oven for serving the next day. Nope, not a good practice. I was given my money back for the falafel. My husband got the Ninja sandwich which he said was good. Will I go back? Going by the disappointment of the falafel plate I would have to say NO! but because of the redeeming quality of my husband's sandwich I might consider returning ... but no time soon.

Ashley L.

Yelp
Delicious food, decent service. They have a variety if menu items that you don't usually see on the same menu. But i have never gotten anything I didn't like. My favorite is the Hey Zeus wrap
google avatar

Pedro M.

Yelp
When your Uber Eats driver tells you that this is his favorite restaurant, you know you hit a bullseye. Greek, Korean, Deli? Kwik Chek has it all. My wife and I were not to hungry, so we ordered, greek salad, pita with hummus and yes the Kimchi Fried Rice. The highlight was the Kimchi Fried Rice, well cooked, well seasoned and a with just the right amount of heat. If I am ever in Memphis, I would definitely order from here.
google avatar

Kyle N.

Yelp
An authentic mom & pop restaurant run by mom, grandma and granddaughter, or at least that's what it appears. The Korean/Middle-Eastern menu combination is very surprising, but both the Bibimbap and Gyro were well executed. The atmosphere is very simple and down to earth, but cozy and welcoming, the food tasty, I definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Isaac S.

Yelp
Went back to Kwik Chek after a several year hiatus and was glad to see the food is still the same! Subs are everything here, but I've also heard good things about their Korean food. I'm pretty particular about my Asian food so I probably will stick to subs. Ordered the Ninja on wheat with everything. Still delicious with that sweet sauce! Service can be a bit slow. The night I went there weren't many customers there but plenty of staff but the sandwich still took over 10 mins to make. I guess you can't rush greatness *shrugs*
google avatar

Tanya C.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Service was great. Nice spot for a quick bite. Three stars because of no restroom for the public. Ordered and then had to go to Circle K down the street and come back to eat my food.
google avatar

CJ J.

Yelp
Pretty much a dive (building is a former convenience store) but diverse menu with great sandwiches, sides. & home made desserts. Is my go to sandwich shop in Mid town. Tried many of them-it's hard to decide some times what to get. Turkey Rueben is probably my favorite. Spouse goes for the Memphis. Options for vegans/vegetarians. Korean food also very good. Lots of bottled drink choices & beer. Service friendly. Limited parking in front.
google avatar

Lydia D.

Yelp
Husband and I stopped by on our road trip after seeing so many mentions through top blogs and the reviews on yelp. We were excited to find a go-to Hole in the wall when passing through Memphis. We ordered the bibimbap and the Memphis sandwich and while the food was tasty, the surrounding area is pretty rough and can be quite surprising if you are not accustomed to that. Overall, would recommend if your feeling up for adventure but not if you're just passing through the city. Husband, "could've just stopped at Cains".

Yelp
Never thought I'd say this but - Bi Bim Bop at the Kwik Check is fantastic. Came here a few months ago when in town with my adult kids, upon their raving recommendation, and haven't stopped thinking about how good this comfort food dish was. Organized the whole family to come back over Christmas holidays after Zoo Lights. Everyone got different things - muffuletta, Bi Bim Bop Burger, Bi Bim Bop, several sandwiches; everything was tasty, fresh and cheap. They sell all manner of canned and bottled drinks and snacks to go with your meal. Growing up in Memphis I am well acquainted with the hole-in-the-wall culinary find, so I shouldn't have been surprised at the strong showing of Kwik Check. Go here!

Marcus D.

Yelp
At Kwik Check, there's a sandwich divine, That's sure to make your taste buds shine. It's a steak sandwich, oh so great, Served hot and fresh, it's worth the wait. The steak is juicy, tender and rare, Seasoned to perfection, with such care. The bread is soft, yet toasted just right, With just the right crunch, it's a pure delight. Topped with wonderful ingredients, sautéed, And melted cheese, oh so gooey, It's a symphony of flavors in your mouth, You'll savor every bite, without a doubt. At Kwik Check, this sandwich reigns supreme, It's a culinary masterpiece, it would seem. So next time you're in the mood for a treat, Head on over and savor this steak sandwich feat.

Isaac B.

Yelp
The Bi Bim Bop was delicious I highly recommend it specially if you like a little spicy in your food!

Yelp
This place is truly unique! It combines subs and hoagies, Greek, and Korean food all with the convenience store items you may desire. They offer some Korean snack and menu items, and the owners are a Korean family! You order at the counter, collect your order when called, then check out by the door. I ordered 'The Turk' hoagie, and it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in Memphis! The bread was fresh and had a nice crust on it. From the fridge, I grabbed some pasta salad and baklava. The pasta salad was pretty good with sun-dried tomatoes, onions, and Italian herbs. The baklava was alright, and I don't know if I'd get it again. Next time I stop by, I hope to try the Korean menu options. Definitely worth a try!
google avatar

S.J. K.

Yelp
Is it a restaurant? Is it a convenience store? Who knows. Who cares. What Kwik Check is though is really good. The food totally makes up for the strange convenience store vibe, but I think most people get their meals to go. I just wish it were open 24- hours and sold gas.

Yelp
Yo so I walk in the spot. I usually hit the gyro if I'm on the go or do up the Bippity-Bop if I'm dining in. But on this occasion I wasn't sure what route to take. So the homie across the counter asks me what I want to order and I'm just like,"you tell me. I can't decide if I want the Gyro, Kimchi Wrap or try the Kabob." He's like,"damn, that is a tough choice!" I say,"yo that's why I'm putting this on you, chef." He looks down. I know he's stressing. This is a hard decision. I said, "I'm sorry man. I know this is difficult. Try being in this mind. It's like John Malkovich all day." He realizes the gravity of the situation. He stutters and asks, "do you want beef, chicken or tofu in the burrito?" I say, "Man I still don't know. WAIT! NO TOFU!" He's like,"I got you, Son. Chicken it is!" I'm all, "Word. I couldn't have done this without you. Namaste ". I had to wait a few minutes because the spot was poppin'. My order was to go, but a woman mistakenly brought a dine-in Kimchi Burrito, already plated, my way. I nodded my head as she called out the order - but at the same instant a woman happily raised her hand at a dine-in table. For a millisecond I considered taking the dish and dinning in rather than waiting 2 more second for my to-go order. Within that millisecond the consciousness of the universe beheld itself to me and I recognized I'd be carrying that karmic debt for at least 3 days (possible 3 lifetimes ) if I chose to eat the dine in burrito. So I pointed to the table and said, "that must be hers. I got a to-go order." The archangel Gabriel nodded to me and flew off. That woman looked so relieved and happy to be given the plate. Moments later my chicken kimchi burrito arrived. I paid for the item. They put it in a cute to-go bag. I brought that shit home and crushed it. Now all I got left is this empty rolled up paper and a full stomach. Damn that was a good meal and a very exciting evening. Will be returning again. I wonder what I'll eat next time.

John M.

Yelp
I've been coming to Kwik Check for over 40 years. These people are absolutely Wonderful. I sampled the majority of the menu over the years and all the food has been fabulous. Keep up the Great Work!
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
I was pretty impressed with this place. It looks dinky but it serves pretty good food. I got a gyro and it was a standard gyro. They also had a type of salad that I can't remember the name of. But I would definitely come back and try some of their other options. To Try: Korean BBQ Burger Bi Bim Bop Kimchi Fried Rice Liked: - Gyro Ok: - Gogijeon (meatballs) - Mandu Beef

Leslie M.

Yelp
It's definitely worth it. The food is good. Don't expect much as far as the atmosphere because it's old, a few tables, and it's a Kwik Chek but it's worth the visit. It would be nice if the staff were a little more personable. A little bit more customer service to make you feel welcome. Maybe a Little more pleasant when you've never been before and you have questions. Again, definitely worth it otherwise.

Christina M.

Yelp
Walked in, waited about 5-10 min before someone finally came out and said "everyone waiting on an order?" And I said "I'm waiting TO order." She walks away. Another woman walks out and starts greeting her friends (who were behind us in line) and taking their order, so we left. Won't be back. I don't care how good or cheap your sandwiches are if this is how you treat customers.
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
The Korean soup is every ingredient that mana is made from. The kimchee is an advanced life force substance. All decadent desserts will enable your ears to hear angel strings and devil trombones
google avatar

Alida R.

Yelp
What's great about Kwik Chek: - this is a true small operation: you can see the ajummas (older women) behind the counter making dumplings right in front of you, and everything (for the take-out counter at Kwik Chek and for the noodle restaurant next door) is made in front of you. - the food is good and vegetarian (probably vegan, though I tend to "don't ask don't tell" in situations like this) friendly. they have an eclectic menu: American and Greek style sandwiches (both meat and veg), and some traditional Korean dishes. We tried fried veggie dumplings (good!), pajeon (green onion pancake - which was great) and an order of tofu bibimbop (delicious). What's no so great: - the parking lot is a disaster: it was small and totally full, with some cars just waiting in spots that weren't actual parking spots. As a tourist, I wasn't sure if there was street parking nearby. - it took *forever* to get my order: I should have called ahead. When I ordered at the counter, I asked for an estimate, and was told maybe 15 minutes. It was more like 40 minutes! - there's a market that sells a few snack items and beer. I bought a couple of beers; no prices were marked, and they were a lot more expensive than I expected! 3.5 stars rounded up cause it's a clearly a family-owned business

Sarah A.

Yelp
Seriously if you see any bad reviews for this place, don't listen to them. Have never been disappointed here. They cook everything to order so it might take some time to get your food but it will be hot and fresh and will never disappoint. Prices are not much higher than any other restaurant in the area. Try the kimchi fried rice :-)
google avatar

Stoner S.

Yelp
I get roped into ordering food from here at least once a month because my boss perpetually chooses it as our "in-office lunch treat" option. It's generally meh. I've usually order the ninja sandwich which does it's job. The bi bim bop is good!
google avatar

Hensley U.

Yelp
Writing this as I'm eating because this place totally lives up to the hype. I'm so glad we finally got to try it. We placed our order on grubhub and picked it up 20 min later. We got the bi bim bop, kimchi fried rice, beef dumpling mandus and the falafel plate. Everything was amazing. The fried rice was so flavorful with a kick, which I love. The falafel plate is delicious. The mandus are amazing - tasty, juicy, plump full. I mean everything was fresh, so much flavor. This will be a new frequent stop for us!!! Did I mention they have AN AMAZING RANGE OF DESSERTS? Key lime pie, blueberry cheesecake, snickers cheese cake, and several different cakes. I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Mediocre food Had to wait almost an hour No sinks or place to wash hands Won't be back
google avatar

Willy N.

Yelp
Best Korean food in Memphis! The kimchi fried rice was absolutely delicious. I've been to Seoul before and the fried rice was comparable. The dumplings were also nice and thick. They were fried perfectly. This is a great spot for take out orders during this quarantine. I highly recommend it!
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Don't let the exterior of the shop keep you from walking inside! Driving by it looks like a gas station spot, but the food you get inside is top notch. The menu contains Mediterranean and Korean items with a variety of sandwiches as well. I've been by twice this past month and tried a different Korean dish each time, the kimchi fried rice that I added beef to and the bi bim bop. Both were incredible and came to the table in a sizzling cast iron pan or stone bowl. I'm a huge fan of kimchi and these dishes did not disappoint. I'll be going back very soon to try their kebabs or gyros! If you go for lunch, get there close to open at 11 or you may have to wait a bit as the place fills up.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
I brought my boyfriend here for his first time and after years of faithfully patronizing this establishment I can say it hasn't changed a bit. Scored major points for showing him this restaurant! I usually get the beef bi bim bop or the ninja, but we also tried the veggie mandu this time and they were incredible!
google avatar

Angel I.

Yelp
Love this find! It's a convenience store fast casual type of place with a good variety of hot, delicious, and fresh food. We loved the dumplings (were making them from scratch!), kimchi fried rice, and bimbimbop - all SO good! And friendly service and yummy desserts, too.
google avatar

Kristin P.

Yelp
First of all the food is good. It's popular for lunch and to go orders. It gets one star less because of the cleanliness and gnat & fly population
google avatar

Christina R.

Yelp
This is our go to place for ordering in on days we don't want to cook! My husband and I love it. I get the half muffuletta and my husband gets the bibimbop. It's always !! Their pita & hummus plate is also so so good! And we love their fried Mandus!! We order at least once a week!
