Stepping into Kyani & Co. at Marine Lines feels like stepping back in time. One of Mumbai’s oldest surviving Irani cafés, Kyani isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a slice of the city’s heritage, wrapped in vintage charm and served with a generous side of nostalgia.
We visited on a breezy evening and were lucky to get table. The menu may be no-frills, but every item tells a story. We started with their iconic Kheema Pav, and it did not disappoint. Perfectly spiced, comforting, and generously portioned, the kheema paired beautifully with their bun—soft and fresh
To wash it down, we had the quintessential Irani chai—strong and aromatic. It was the perfect companion to the meal and a great way to soak in the ambiance. The café's tall ceilings and ancient fans and seating arrangement add to its old-world appeal.
Next up, we tried the veg Patty—a baked delight with a crispy crust and flavorful filling that turned out to be a surprise favourite. Before leaving, we couldn’t resist grabbing a few of their legendary baked treats for takeaway. The Mawa Cake was rich, moist, and full of flavor—a true Kyani classic. We also picked up a chocolate brownie and a cup of custard, both of which made for delightful desserts at home.
The staff here are quick, polite, and used to the steady flow of loyal patrons and curious foodies. Prices are extremely reasonable considering the generous servings and iconic status of the café.
Whether you’re a local Mumbaikar or a tourist hunting for authentic experiences, Kyani & Co. is a must-visit. It’s not just about food—it’s about reliving a part of Mumbai’s history. The café retains its charm without trying too hard, and that’s what makes it so special.
A soulful evening, comforting food, and timeless memories—all under one vintage roof.
