The 38 Best Restaurants in Mumbai, India | Eater

"A haven for college students for several decades, Kyani is still cheap, fast, and a go-to pick for a quick breakfast. Time freezes when you enter the restaurant, with its mirrored walls, wooden chairs, and aroma of freshly brewing tea. Get chicken puffs, bun maska (buttered bread), Irani chai, mawa cake, and a serving of eggs." - Sumedh Natu

The Ultimate Culinary Tour of India

"The intimate interior is all dusty, faded grandeur, the walls lined with shelves of glass biscuit jars... Huddled around a few wooden tables, we indulge in mugs of milky sweet chai tea, biscuits, and soft buttered white bread, and delight in the eccentricity of the vintage signage that adorns the restaurant’s walls."

So we went there to have the legendary food. We were served with cold stale buns/pav, extremely oily kheema, akhuri that felt like raw eggs and unseasoned and hosts so very rude they made us leave. We sat there and were eating, and since we were eating at a slower pace, despite there being empty tables around, the host told us this is not a place to sit and talk while we still had food on our table. Just because you are old school and have a reputation, doesn't mean you are good today. They even scolded the lady near us when she said she wanted egg scrable but they have gg pudding and said it's her fault for not knowing. Ne er going there again. And I would encourage others to not as well. Just go peak inside the kitchen and see how your food is being cooked.

Old world charm of an irani cafe with quick service. I had egg akuri and butter toast. The akuri was a little bland, not sure if it's supposed to be that much. They also have a well stocked bakery counter. Id recommend the rum ball, plum cake, and wine biscuits. They only accept cash. No card, no UPI.

A perfect spot to transform you back to olden days. Walls filled with black and white labelled pictures. Food flavourful and tea is the best to enjoy on a pitter patter day. Affordable and lovely vibe. Helpful staff and good service. Hope to come back again later 😁.

Located in the lane opp Metro Cinema, this is iconic restaurant is in business since 1904. This place surely will take you back in time. The chairs and tables are antique and so is the ambience of this restaurant. Would recommend the Kheema, mutton cutlets, mutton samosa and the irani chai. Parking can be an issue here. Do visit if you want to experience the old world charm.

I popped into Kayanis one evening for a quick bite. It’s got that classic Irani vibe; old-school decor with framed awards and newspaper clippings on the walls. The staff did their job but weren’t exactly chatty or welcoming. The tea was just okay, nothing special. The club sandwich? Honestly, one of the worst I’ve tried; More like a chicken and egg mess. The chicken puff tasted better. I liked the mutton cutlet too. It feels a bit overhyped, but if you’re nearby and need a quick meal, it’s not a bad spot. Just don’t expect to be wowed. Kayani Chai - 4/5 Chicken Puff - 4/5 (Slightly dry) Mutton Pattice - 5/5 (might be spicy for some) Chicken Club Sandwich - 3/5 (never again)

It was a really good experience being here. Great mutton keema, chicken samosa and cutlets were awesome, egg sandwich was too good. Pallonji drink was awful, I don't know why that drink is famous here but yeah overall it is must try.

We visited Kyani’s very randomly and it was a pleasant experience. The vibe is very nice and cozy. Being vegetarians there wasn’t a lot of options available for us but we had the Cheese burger and Irani chai and both were good.

Kalyani & Co. Irani Cafe is not just about food, it’s about nostalgia and heritage. The mutton keema is cooked to perfection – full of flavor and authenticity. Pair it with their Parsi omelette, and you’ll know why this place has such a special place in Mumbai’s Irani food culture.
