The 38 Best Restaurants in Mumbai, India | Eater

"A haven for college students for several decades, Kyani is still cheap, fast, and a go-to pick for a quick breakfast. Time freezes when you enter the restaurant, with its mirrored walls, wooden chairs, and aroma of freshly brewing tea. Get chicken puffs, bun maska (buttered bread), Irani chai, mawa cake, and a serving of eggs." - Sumedh Natu

The Ultimate Culinary Tour of India

"The intimate interior is all dusty, faded grandeur, the walls lined with shelves of glass biscuit jars... Huddled around a few wooden tables, we indulge in mugs of milky sweet chai tea, biscuits, and soft buttered white bread, and delight in the eccentricity of the vintage signage that adorns the restaurant’s walls."

Kyani & Co. is a classic Iranian café serving authentic Iranian cuisine. The place is always crowded, and you’ll notice a good mix of locals and foreigners, which shows how popular and well-known it is. Coming to the food, their chicken dishes stood out. The Chicken Cheese Kebab was actually very nice—it was stuffed with cheese from inside and had a hot-dog–like shape. It felt filling and had a good amount of chicken, which I liked the most. I also tried the chicken samosa, but I felt the chicken quantity was a bit less, with more masala in the filling. Similarly, the mutton cutlet had more potato than mutton. Personally, I prefer meat-forward dishes. The ambience is really great with an old-world charm, but photography is not allowed inside. I clicked one photo and was asked not to take pictures, which was a bit disappointing considering how beautiful the place is. Overall, it’s an authentic Iranian café with a lovely atmosphere. The food is good, especially the chicken items, though the filling ratios may not suit everyone’s taste.

We recently visited Kyani & Co., one of those iconic old-school Irani cafés that instantly transport you back in time. We ordered kheema pav, bhurji pav, and a grilled veg sandwich, pairing them with their signature Irani chai and a cold coffee. The food was hearty and flavorful — the kheema was spiced just right, the bhurji had that perfect buttery edge, and the sandwich was crisp on the outside with a generous filling inside. The Irani chai, of course, was the highlight — strong, milky, and perfectly balanced, just the way it should be. The cold coffee was refreshing too, making it a great accompaniment to the meal. That said, the place itself feels quite dated — it has that unmistakable vintage charm, but some might find it a bit run-down. Still, that’s part of Kyani’s old-world character — the worn-out furniture, marble-topped tables, and bustling crowd add to its nostalgic appeal. Overall, it’s a solid 4-star experience — great food, timeless charm, and a slice of Mumbai’s culinary history. Perfect for those who love a bit of nostalgia with their meal

The legendary Iranian restaurant didn’t disappoint us! We had a wonderful brunch here. Our friends had planned to take us here since they had tried it. The best food to order is the pav with mutton keema. It’s simply the best, and of course, the Iranian chai is a must-try. Almost all the dishes we ordered were delicious. My favourite was the mutton samosa; it was so smooth. This is definitely a must-visit breakfast spot in Mumbai.

I’d always wanted to visit one of the oldest bakeries in town ,Kyani & Co.and finally got the chance. The ambience is wonderfully nostalgic, filled with old-school charm, and I absolutely loved that part of the experience. However, the food didn’t quite live up to the hype. The dishes we tried, like the kheema and bhurji, felt quite basic and nothing exceptional. On the brighter side, the snack items were much better , the mawa cake, chicken cutlet, and ,caramel custard were genuinely enjoyable. Overall, the pricing is reasonable, making it worth a visit for the ambience and certain snacks, but don’t expect too much from the main dishes.

A legendary bakery etched in the memories of the city from the time it was called Bombay. Started by Iranis in the early 1900s, the place is still one of the most searched and visited by tourists of all nations. Located in the bustling yet charming neighbourhood of marine line, steps away form the famous fashion street and metro cinema. You can even walk to the marine drive or hop on a black yellow taxi. Serving authentic and traditional Irani food, blended with the taste of Indian cuisines, it still holds the vibe that it had many years ago. Unlike fine dining restaurants with ACs and interior decors, they have held onto their original designs and experience. Old pictures reflecting Mumbai’s iconic places and people, they serve one of the best foods. I have been visiting here for more than 15 years and it still attracts me each time I’m in the city. Their bun maska and Irani chai are the most famous offerings along with mutton keema pav. I’d highly recommend trying their puffs, cake slices, and of course chai.

The OG cafe serving quality, delicious goodness. Got chicken & mutton cutlet, mutton chop, keema pav, Irani chai and few Backery items. Have had better Irani chai in other Irani cafes than here, not recommended. Chop is a meat slice beaten, coated and fried, tastes good however of excessive oil because of the egg coating. Cutlet tastes amazing. Keema was again with a lot of oil on top however delicious. Among the bakery items, I love the mawa cake the most like everyone else! KEEP CASH WITH YOU BEFORE ENTERING THIS CAFE, THEY DON'T ACCEPT ANY FORM OF ONLINE PAYMENT. PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ALLOWED. Service can be improved if they are willing to.

Visited this place two weeks back on a sunny Sunday with family and friends for breakfast. I had heard about it earlier and wanted to try this old, history-wrapped Irani restaurant. The food was decent overall. We tried the chicken and mutton samosas, cutlets, and kebabs, all of which were undoubtedly good. However, in my opinion, Cafe Irani Chai scores better compared to this place. I didn’t like the chicken cheese ball as it was a bit cold—possibly due to high demand, the food wasn’t being warmed properly. What I loved most about this restaurant were the sweet dishes, especially the rabri and custard, and the cakes—particularly the special mawa cake, blueberry muffins, and glass cakes.

The food was not so great considering the history and reviews about Irani food and cafés authenticity. The space is good and staff is nice, but the food was not so great as its shown for Irani food in Mumbai. Bun masks was bun and Amul or some butter brand. Tasted nothing like Irani bun maska. Yea! Their cold coffee was good. Loved it.
