Kylesku Hotel | Best places to stay in the Scottish Highlands

"Watch the fishing boats unload their catch through the panoramic picture windows as you tuck into breakfast in the architect-designed wooden extension of this quaint 19th-century coaching inn in the northwest Highlands. Right on the water’s edge, overlooking Loch Glendhu, it’s a gourmet bolthole, famous for its seafood and the perfect pitstop if you’re driving the North Coast 500. This relaxing retreat, with books to thumb and a telescope for wildlife-watching, is also dog-friendly. Some hotels claim to be dog-friendly, but here they’re really welcome – in the bar and restaurant as well as rooms. There are 11 rooms in all, four in the modern annex, Willie’s Hoose next door – two with a loch-facing balcony. Ideal for seafood-loving sea dogs and dog lovers. " - Lucy Gillmore

Absolutely stunning views from the room and the public areas. We saw a seal at breakfast time! The rooms have a Scandi/Scots vibe that is relaxing and welcoming. Genuinely the most comfortable bed I've slept in for ages. Lovely ensuite with gorgeous toiletries. Courteous and efficient staff who could not have been more helpful. Special mention to chef and team as the food is gorgeous. Definitely a fish and seafood lover's heaven.

We booked a quirky room without and ensuite, but arrived to find that we had our own private bath down the hall, stand up shower, sink and toilet. Our room had a sink and mirror. Our room was adorable, up under the eaves, with a little Hobbit door to enter. Good food, they had a gluten free fish and chips that was knockout good. Delicious and generous portions. There's a comfy lounge with a view of the loch to hang out in, since the room was very small. We did some hanging out there after dinner.

Visited this hotel for coffees and light lunches yesterday and was extremely disappointed. The position is lovely overlooking the water, however the prices are outrageous. 2 coffees, 1 tea, 2 Cullen Skink soup and 1 battered prawns (on menu as tempura but was a very basic fish batter). Total bill £66.25. Will never return

We stayed here for two nights, and it was our favourite stay on our NC500 tour. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The location is stunning and peaceful. Our room - in a separate house alongside the main building - was nicely decorated, large, and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed two delicious evening meals in the restaurant, although I was surprised to find seafood, which is landed locally, much more expensive than London restaurant prices. |Suggestions would be for our room to have a full-length mirror, it also really needs some 'bottom up' blinds to provide privacy in the bedroom, as you are fully on show to everyone walking past during the day, unless you close the curtains. Staff also need to ensure the underfloor heating is turned up before guests arrive, as it took 2 hours to get our room warm enough to feel comfortable. |Overall, this is a great spot to stay, but just be prepared for the very high prices for accommodation, food and drink.

My wife and I had a wonderful one-night stop at this lovely, remote hotel by Kylesku Bridge while travelling the NC500. The scenery is stunning, the rooms cosy, and the restaurant excellent.||On arrival, we were warmly welcomed with tea in the residents’ lounge, enjoying the views and chatting with other guests while sheltering from the rain. Our little Dachshund was even treated to leftover salmon by the chef!||Dinner was a highlight—my half lobster and my wife’s crab were fresh, locally caught, and delicious.||Super friendly staff, beautiful surroundings, and a truly memorable stay. We would love to return.

This is the 5th hotel we have stayed in on our road trip, so far. It is, by far the most disappointing. No way is this a £340 a night hotel. We stayed in Willie's Hoos with the dog. The room was average, at best. The bathroom had rotten wood all round the shower. The bed and pillows were rock hard. At half 5 yesterday afternoon, a coach load of tourists were dropped off and the coach sat outside our room with the engine running. This morning, there were no tables set for breakfast in the dog friendly area. When we did get sat for breakfast, the septic tank lorry turned up and emptied the tank just the other side of the window where we were sitting. At check out time, the bill wasn't ready, the card machine wasn't charged up. An expensive Fawlty Towers trip! We stayed, two nights ago at the sister hotel in Brora. That one is 100% better and worth every penny.

We stopped for food on the off chance they had space and were glad we did. ||Really delicious food which we found priced at fairly standard prices for what we got. ||The fish (both battered and fish of the day) was some of the best we'd ever had. Only slight moan was the battered fish was meant to come with chunky chips not fries. Not that it soilt our meal.||Dog friendly, clean, polite and professional service and great views. ||I find having the tip included stops me giving more (as normally i'd round up). I'd also ask for it to be removed if i was unhappy 🙂

Lovely hotel in a stunning location. This was an overnight stop on our NC500 trip. The location is absolutely stunning and very peaceful, with beautiful views of the Loch from the restaurant, bar, lounge and some rooms. Fresh modern feel to the hotel, which is very clean. Friendly staff. The restaurant serves lovely food. Breakfast and evening menu has seafood on offer, some of which is caught from the Loch. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, but next time I’ll book a room with a Loch view!
