Awesome location. Great food, but the price reflects the absence of any competition.
We had just swum in the loch, and arrived in high spirits for a quick drink on the terrace. I sat alone on a bar stool patiently while the staff made drinks, as they studiously avoided eye contact. After 5 minutes I interrupted the silence and asked if I was doing the right thing by waiting to order from the bar, only to be told - as if I should know - that I should order by scanning the tiny QR code on the corner of our table on the terrace. It took ten minutes to order and pay, which required an enquiry about how to order a drink (eg shandy) that was not on the menu, resolved by a text note to request lime in addition to soda, and a lager shandy, as well as a half of Best. Unfortunately, a half of lager and a Best shandy arrived. This de-humanised system made it feel like a McDonalds, detracted from the atmosphere, added delay, wasted drinks, and made it unlikely I’d return for another drink unless I was desperate.
We recovered and had a lovely time and the staff were friendly after the drinks arrived. However, the staff aren’t the problem, it’s the QR code system that ruins an otherwise perfect setting for a relaxed drink.
