Amazing atmosphere and decor! Very similar to the little izakaya joints in Japan. Food was overall really good. Loved the duck tataki the most! Just wished the chicken katsu had a little more flavour but other than that it was still a great experience and would come back to try other things on the menu for both food and cocktails!

Hate to say I was disappointed, but there are several better Japanese options in Montreal at this price point. Lovely atmosphere and friendly, albeit slower service. Overall pleasant experience, but I unfortunately cannot recommend the food. The appetizers were mediocre; the octopus balls were quite chewy. We ordered the black garlic ramen and the tantan ramen. I found the broth to be not as flavourful as I hoped, and the portion to be small. Incredibly steep price for only one thin sliver of pork and half an egg.

A Japanese bistro in the heart of Concordia University. A friend and I went from the Museum of Fine Art to this place walking along and appreciating the night life. You enter and the atmosphere invites you to sit and relax and eat. Beautiful venue. Great food. Will be going back regularly.

Google
Good Izakaya vibes with an impeccable service as always. The squid is well grilled and very fresh. The Okonomiyaki is my favorite ~ It's always nice to have a sake, plum wine, or sapporo to balance well with the food! For a Wednesday, it's a perfect place to drink cold sake and relax. I may recommend making a reservation if it's during the weekends, though, since it's busier, but worth to pass by and try some new dishes

Kyodai Izakaya is a restaurant/bar near the Atwater Subway Station that is Izakaya-style. That alone sets it apart from most Japanese restaurants you find in Montreal: sushi and ramen being the two typical offerings. I thoroughly enjoy visiting that restaurant, I have been multiple times. The waiters and waitresses are all very friendly and the food is very good. I particularly enjoy the Tempura Combo Set, which is hard to come by on the island of Montreal. I thoroughly recommend going: perfect for a solo traveler looking to play retro Nintendo games (yay Switch 2), or perfect to go as a group also! I only wish they were open for lunch hour as well. <3

Google
Extremely over priced, extremely small portions, Horrible customer service, no warmth or smile or friendly greeting upon entry, just robotic staff, felt the same as ordering from an ipad, no emition no care, ordered the chicken curry it was literally just gravy with onions , a small cup of white rice and 6 strips of fried chicken breast, zero flavour or effort , the portion was so small shouldn’t pay more than 8$ for this portion size but the meal costed me 22$ after tax no tip, the restaurant was filled with a few drunks and but otherwise empty. It was my first time here, will not recommend, will not go back, overall horrible experience 2/10 horrible restaurant horrible staff

Google
Food portions were small and expensive, but tasty (took the pork curry). Bathrooms were also small and uncomfortable. Only 1 stall per gender. The decor would be nice if I could see, the place is very dark. The staff made the lights dimmer when we came in.

Google
Great atmosphere, cocktails are fun, food is quite good, prices are slightly high but understandably. Every guest I've brought here has been satisfied. They also make sure to check my service dog's proof of training every single time I visit, so I feel safe and grateful that there will never be any pet dogs here!

Yelp
Everything was fantastic from start to finish. The food was outstanding (best okonomiyake I've had outside of Japan), and my wife and I loved the atmosphere. Our server, Ya-jun Cheng, really made us feel welcome and provided excellent food advice. We are from out of town, but if we lived in Montreal, Kyodai would definitely be one of our go-to resturants.

Yelp

Yelp
Whether guided by fate or touched by luck, our first visit to this Montreal izakaya felt like drawing a hidden star from the night. Each small dish was crafted with the grace to charm even the most discerning palate, like whispers of flavour meant to seduce the soul. Among those small dishes, we would strongly recommend the saba tataki (seared mackerel), the beef tataki. and the ikayaki (grilled squid) all exquisite. The unagi surprisingly served with rice and salad was a bit disappointing, especially the sauce on the top. We also tried the cheesecake which was good but not a must. The restaurant has also a great selection of sakes, for all budget. The small restaurant not only offers a welcoming atmosphere but also an attentive staff. We will come back for sure to try out their Harushika Junmai Daiginjo!

Yelp
We decided to stop by Tempura Kyodai on our last night in Montreal. There were a good number of patrons when we arrived, but barely any customers seemed to come in after we sat down, so it was never very busy. Not sure if it was an off night, or its counterpart Bar Ganadara is just a more popular spot on a Saturday night. We ordered - Ebi Tempura: the tempura was black (perhaps made with squid ink?) and it had great texture (given that tempura is in the restaurant's name, it was a good sign that the meal started off right) - Salmon Mille-Feuille: I've never had a savoury mille-feuille but this was delicious! Interesting take on a traditional dessert item. - Duck Tataki: a little too much sauce, and the duck was average, but the toppings that accompanied the tataki still made this a solid dish - Metaiko Udon: I'm biased as udon is my favourite kind of noodle. A hearty combination of ingredients Service was on par with the quality of the food. Great choice for Japanese cuisine in Montreal!

Yelp
Wow.. just wow... where do I even start... first off, the service. The waiters were extremely friendly and easy to talk to. Then, the service. When my parents and I arrived to the restaurant we were seated immediately. The food was out so quick it felt like it was instant, and same with the drinks. Next, the ambiance. The place had tons of nice music and paintings, with really comfortable chairs and nice tables, overall great! Now for the star of the show, the food. Their Takoyaki was simply sublime, and their eel rice was so good. My expectations for the eel rice were already set high and they still managed to outdo my expections. If your looking to eat Japanese food in Montreal, this is THE place to eat at

Yelp
Very pleasant service and ambiance. They were genuinely interested in your experience and welfare. Gracious in answering numerous questions. The food was fresh, very tasty, well-balanced, portioned and reasonably priced!

Yelp
Since this restaurant recently opened, we were lucky to get seated right away without lining up. I'm confident that it won't take long before we have to wait in long line before getting in. Food, service and ambiance are execellent. My friends and I are fans of raw dishes therefore we ordered most of their raw appetizers. However, their tempura are a must as stipulated by the restaurant name! I'm usually not fans of fried food, but their batter is light, flaky and not overly oily in the mouth, simply scrumptious! Among the appetizers, my favourite is the oyster carpaccio. Although the oyster is huge, it didn't taste fishy and it was served in a citrusy sauce, a perfect match. It is something I never had anywhere else. The A5 wagyu are thinly sliced and sit on a truffle cream sauce underneath. The truffle cream sauce is excellent but it covers the beef's flavor. The bird nest of the tuna tataki is also accompanied by the same sauce which I find the combination a lot better. The mille feuille salmon is good but the foie gras piece is rather small and the taste of it is rather inedible. The homemade potatoe korrokke is very good. Portion is also very generous too. This definitely needs to be shared. I haven't tried their curry but it smelled really good. Would definitely come for it.

Yelp
Amazing food, 10/10 service, dishes came super quickly. We were 7 people sharing everything and they accomodated every dish so we would each have a serving. Very good experience. Would recommend trying it out and sharing dishes.
