Kyoto Curry Seisakusho Karil – Kyoto - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"This restaurant’s curry is neither Indian nor European, but their own original. The lack of flour is reminiscent of Indian curries, but Indian cuisine has no tradition of drawing dashi. Borrowing from his experience with yoshoku cuisine, the head chef uses chicken and beef for broth. Only about 10 spices are used, allowing each individual flavour to be brought to the fore. In keeping with the theme of familiar dishes the way they used to be made, the curries are paired with Japanese rice." - Michelin Inspector

Absolutely amazing! This is the fusion food of japanese and indian curry. I tried their butter chicken curry and pork curry. They have a spiciness level on the curry. At first i was a little bit skeptical because i didnt expect the spiciness of japanese food can compete with spiciness of indonesian food. But its actually spicy! Anw, my favorite is butter chicken curry. It was buttery, creamy, full of spices, and the portion quite huge. The pork curry also good, but my favorite is butter chicken curry. They also have a condiment. I think it's onion and white caisim? Overall, worth the price and the queue!

The butterchicken curry was delicious and complex. The staff was polite to warn us that the regular chicken curry was very spicy and indeed it was! The problem was it was too simple and the spiciness overwhelmed the other flavors. A very nice experience overall.

Delicious beef curry & chicken leg curry and pickled side dishes - fave meal in Japan so far! The tunes are cool too

This curry restaurant was a great find for us and I seriously recommend it. We had the chicken curry and the bibimbap curry, which was one of their specials at the time. The curry had a deep peppery flavor, and went well with the perfectly cooked rice. Their pickled cabbage on the side was delicious as well. The service was also great and the place was spotlessly clean.

Second time here. Didn't disappoint once again! The flavour profile is different than your average Japanese Curry. It seems a little bit inspired by Indian curry, but with a Japanese influence. Delicious!

We were looking for a quick lunch. We saw the review is highly recommended & there were queue when we arrived, waited for 10mins to enter the restaurant. The staff is nice. We ordered butter chicken & chicken curry. The butter chicken tasted decent with Japanese rice, it taste a bit to the sweet side compare to the dish in authentic Indian restaurant. The chicken curry is not recommended. I would say the chicken portion is not the most generous for both dishes. Overall was a okay lunch, but I would not recommend to travel just to visit this place.

Delicious curry at this Kyoto restaurant. It definitely goes in my top 3. It was well balanced with just enough spiciness and really flavorful. I came here twice in 5 days, the curry is really addictive. It's a really quaint restaurant and I think most diners were locals. I highly recommend for anyone to come here when in Kyoto!
