Came here on the weekend with a party of 6 since we were closeby in Pasadena and it was a short drive down to Alhambra. Went to a Chicken place the night before so everyone agreed on Japanese food. Was seated quickly and decided on the popular cream curry udon that was featured in social media. Food came out quickly, though I was kind of dissapointed with the dish. It was rather bland. Everyone however enjoyed their dish so maybe I should have ordered something different, like their gyukatsu since thats what their name implies🤔 Service was good, maybe if in the area again Ill give this place another chance. 4 stars🤙

Food here is pretty good with a good atmosphere. Only downside is the fumes from all of the hot plates can be slightly overwhelming; though the managers does recognize this and opens up the doors for ventilation. The steak here is good, I recommend going down on the rarity level because the hot plate will do more cooking after it’s served.

I came here for my friend's birthday dinner on a Saturday night. It wasn't busy yet at around 6pm, but the restaurant gradually became packed as the night progressed. The ambiance is very modern yet I dig their lightly polished wooden tables, chairs and benches. I ordered their Kyoto Ramen. Our orders were ready within 10-15 minutes and I truly dig the presentation on the ramen. It doesn't stop there. The umami flavors were phenomenal while the ramen noodles were fresh. The broth wasn't too salty and it blended well with the noodles, pork pieces, semi-boiled egg, seaweed and bokchoy. Overall, the Kyoto Ramen tasted identical to what I savored in Japan a few years ago. To me, this is truly authentic. I look forward to trying other authentic dishes at Kyoto Gyukatsu.

I always order the kalbi gyukatsu set. The meat is super tasty but the meat tends to be inconsistently sliced. Sometimes it's thick, sometimes thin, sometimes small, sometimes big. Doesn't detract too much from the taste but I prefer it sliced not too big and thick. Service is efficient with no fuss. They're always quick to relight the burners if I don't cook my meat fast enough. Parking is plentiful but this location can get really busy during prime time hours.

Been here twice now. We enjoyed it each time and would definitely go back! The cream curry udon is really good. Especially if you like Japanese curry. The udon noodles end up a little too soft, they could cook it a smidge less because the hot curry continues to cook it a bit more. We still enjoyed it, flavors were great. Their tempura is really good! You get a great variety of veggies with shrimp. And their tempura doesn’t have that heavy greasy oily feel/taste. Fried perfectly. For the gyukatsu - ordered the beef gyukatsu first time and then the kalbi gyukatsu 2nd time, definitely enjoyed the kalbi one more, worth it! We’d probably try the beef tongue set next time. Service is good, they do get busy at times so you gotta flag someone down if you needed something. But they’re still really prompt and really nice! Expect to smell like food odors when you leave, kind of like Kbbq. Their ventilation system could use some help, but it was expected since I knew we were grilling meat and it was a small space. Parking - you have ample free parking in this shopping plaza. Cars are packed right around the front area of the restaurant since lots of places are in that vicinity, but if you go around the parking lot, you’ll find something!

Five adults, five different dishes, plus a calamari appetizers, and each dish was pretty average, super bland except for the calamari. The udon dish was super sweet. Eeek. Although cute idea of searing the meat on the ceramic mini grill.

June 2023 - Party of 4 on a Friday around 6pm. No wait but we barely beat the rush! There was a line forming after we were seated. Food/Pricing - Kyoto Ramen $14.95 - The noodles were perfectly cooked, meat and broth were tasty! Gyoza $5.95 Haneshita Gyukatsu Steak $34.95 - Much tender and tasty with a slight crunch! Don't leave it cooking on the hot plate for too long, cooks quick! Filet Mignon Steak $34.95 - Very tender and tasted gamey (not a complaint). I really enjoyed it! We ordered it medium, sliced it up, and placed it on the mini hot plate for it to cook a teeny bit more and it was perfect for us after. Seafood Stir Fry Udon $17.95 - Delicious! Service/Ambiance - Prompt and friendly service! The restaurant has high ceilings and fun decor. They were playing old school and recent kpop, which was my kind of vibe! Parking - There's a parking lot in the plaza but it can get pretty full due to the grocery store and other food places nearby. Will be back!

Google
Cute spot in Alhambra. Got the haneshita gyukatsu set (came with side of rice, miso soup, mushrooms, pickled veggies, and a side of cabbage slaw) that has a wasabi and sweet sauce, the pork cutlet set with curry (curry additional $3) and the mazemen udon. The haneshita and pork cutlet set were so good. The meat grilled very quickly so don't forget about it on there! The sauce for the pork cutlet was a bit too sweet so I'm glad we added the curry to balance the flavor out. Thought about trying the cream udons but got the mazemen instead and that was just as great as an alternative to udon with broth or creamy versions. Might look underwhelming at first but all the goodness is buried under so you have to mix it up. The beef and the sauce underneath was heavenly and more than enough to coat all the noodles and topping. There's a bit of spice to it but it was a good addition to switch up between the meat and pork cutlet. The udon was a bit overcooked but otherwise great all around. Came out to $76 +tip for three people and we still had the udon as leftover. The atmosphere was so comfy and modern. Staff were attentive. Can't wait to go back to try the other foods.

Yelp
Cute ambience, plenty of parking, friendly staff, and most importantly they have great food! thoughts on the food: Cream curry udon - 6/10, tasted the delicious but i got overwhelmed after a few bites filet mignon - 10/10 would order again, came with veggies too *vegetable and shrimp tempura- 9/10, we thought it would be smaller but wow this is a huge serving *cheese cutlet - 8/10, delicious but i also got overwhelmed after a few bites *gyoza - 7/10, always a classic

Yelp
This place was pretty unique. I haven't had gyukatsu in a while and they did not disappoint. Food: 5/5 We ordered three plates to share between two people. The gyukatsu and the katsu don were my favorite. The meat was tender and you can cook it your liking in their butter stone fire plate. We also ordered an udon which was pretty good, but a little too fishy for me. I guess that means it's really fresh. Service: 5/5 We got seated pretty quickly on a Sunday night. They immediately brought us miso soup before we even ordered. Our food came out quick and everything was nice and hot for this cold night. Ambiance: 5/5 This place is very modern looking with some Japanese style architecture.

Yelp
Kyoto Gyukatsu in Alhambra is a hidden gem for Japanese food lovers! We ordered the beef gyukatsu and had a blast grilling it to perfection on a hot stone--it was tender and flavorful. The pork cutlet, paired with a rich, savory curry sauce, was equally amazing and cooked to crispy perfection. To top it off, we enjoyed refreshing Asahi beers, which made the meal even more special. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring we had a fantastic dining experience. Great food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere--this spot is a must-visit for anyone in the area! ig/tiktok: @jhennybventures

Yelp
BIG PORTIONS!!! Initially looking at yelp, I thought portions were going to be small. We got the spicy pork cutlet(7/10) and gyukatsu soba (7.5/10). The soba was delicious and the beef was amazing, but I did notice it was relatively greasy. The spicy pork cutlet tasted super good and I loveeee the cheese pull. This place also serves complimentary miso soup as well! Service was fast and servers were attentive to refilling water. Interior is modern and cute, loved the vibes inside!

Yelp
I came here with some friends for dinner recently and had a delicious meal here. It wasn't too crowded when we arrived and we were seated promptly. The menu here is pretty big and they have various dishes including noodles, rice bowls, katsu sets like what I ordered, and appetizers. I settled on getting the grilled butter gyukatsu set since I am a huge fan of gyukatsu and butter! My food arrived in about 10-15 minutes and it was cool having the small grill topped with butter so I could grill my gyukatsu. My set also came with a side salad, rice, edamame, and radish. It was all delicious with the gyukatsu having a great crunchy outside and the inside was cooked to my liking with the meat being flavorful and juicy thanks to the butter on the grill. The salad was a great way to eat to balance out the richness of the meat and the rice as well. The staff were friendly and the inside was modern and clean and well-lit and it made me feel like I was at a restaurant in Japan. Hoping to come back soon again to try the rest of the dishes on their menu! Parking is also available on the street or in the lot in the plaza.

Yelp
We were first one here at opening time, which I think was around 5pm for dinner. We were sat right away and the waiter brought out compliments, miso soup. Nice for the cold weather. We ordered the Beef Gyukatsu combination, the Pork Katsu, and the Creamy Curry Udon. -Beef Gyukatsu: comes with cabbage salad. The dressing was very good. Pickle sides and edamame. The sauce was a bit sweet but had good flavor. The beef comes breaded and seared. You finish the cooking with a small grilled. The beef taste as good as what I had in Japan. Although the color of the beef did not have the fresh color it taste fresh and soft. -Pork Katsu: comes with cabbage salad, it was okay. Little on the dry side for me. The sauces taste amazing. Creamy curry udon is a must try. It's creamy but not over powering the curry flavor. The udon noodles is soft yet have a chewy texture. I will definitely order this again.

Brianna C.

Yelp
I love their chicken cutlet with curry. The salad on the side is AMAZING too. What do they put in that salad dressing?! It's too good. The portion is very generous and the price is fair considering what you get. The cutlet is perfectly crunchy, the curry flavor is exactly how I want it, and the rice is cooked well. Overall, a great place to eat!

Yelp
Restaurant looked clean at first glance, and the servers were very nice and welcoming. Before even ordering, they had brought me a bowl of soup to drink, which was delectable, while I looked over the menu. There were a wide variety of options to choose from ranging in both price and styles (simple to unique dishes). I ended up ordering the cheesy snow gyukatsu which was a nice piece of fried beef with a savory tomato and onion sauce that paired well together. It also had a good amount of cheese on it that helped it taste even better. Overall, the environment and food were wonderful. I will definitely return again to try more of their other menu options next time!

Yelp
Like many others, I heard about this place because of the stone grill. When we arrived, we were greeted quickly and allowed to pick our table since there were ample number of tables available at the time. We did notice that all the staff wait and bus all the tables. It's a medium sized place that can accommodate small and larger parties. The staff that first came over to take our order was very helpful and answered all our questions. So my dad and I both tried the beef gyukatsu but he got the premium to see if there was a difference in taste or texture. My mom order the pork Tonkatsu with a side of curry. It was ok, a little dry and the curry was just the sauce. It was also $3 for a little cup of curry. We also ordered the kelp egg dipping sauce to try. I personally liked my beef gyukatsu more. For both the taste and the price, I think the beef gyukatsu is good. They also ordered butter for the stone grill and we got it on the side so we could add it as we grilled each piece. It just added a little more salt to the meat and moisture as we grilled it. The kelp egg was also a good addition but I could eat the meat with and without it.

Albert T.

Yelp
Wasn't terrible, just pricy for what it was. Portion size was mediocre on the wagyu gyukatsu, service meh. Premium was not feeling premium. I think I enjoyed the experience at the Kobe Gyukatsus more, but that's a revisit for another time..

Julieann T.

Yelp
The food here was absolutely delicious; just make sure you specify any allergen concerns! :) The service here was also great. Our server was very attentive and there was no wait time when we were there. We were seated right away and we also didn't have to wait long for our food. The atmosphere was very calm very nice. Instead of a harsh light the environment it was a very calm and warm light.

Yelp
The location has plenty of free parking. I had no difficulties finding parking for lunch. This is a modern Japanese restaurant. The design is very chic and tasteful. It is an excellent date spot or a place to go with a group of friends. The waitstaff was friendly and the menu was every easy to read. Even though it was my first time they had photos for all the menu items so ordering was not an issue. The food arrived very quickly. 5 dishes all came out within 7 minutes of ordering. Waitress brought out each plate one at a time instead of a giant tray. Gave a feeling that the food was delivered immediately after being made. Cream curry udon looked like whip cream but when mixed looked like udon in a sauce. The udon tasted like curry. A very unique dish. Recommend if you like curry. Mazemen was a noodle dish you mix up. It was tastey but no broth. Had more of a meat taste to the noodles. Looks cool because flakes move around when you first order. Great for instagram photos and videos. Ok to try to say you tried. Tonkatsu was ok. Not the best I've ever had but not the worst. Katsu was crispy. The pork was on the thin side. Sauce and salad were ok. Beef gyukatsu was really good. The portion size is not big. But you could taste the quality of the meat. Very delicious. Haneshita gyukatsu was very good as well. It was simply a delicious piece of meat. The presentation and open grill make this a must try. If you're looking for a great overall experience then I recommend you give this place a try.

Yelp
This has been on my radar for a while so we finally made a stop here last weekend for lunch. I got the chicken katsu with a side of curry and my friend got the beer tongue. Both were pretty good and came in big portions! I wished I had more curry though since I preferred it over the katsu sauce. The miso soup (not pictured) was a bit too salty; my friend and I didn't even touch it. Restaurant is pretty spacious and there are of free parking at the lot. Service was fast too.

Kelly C.

Yelp
This restaurant is nicely decorated and has a really nice ambiance. The food however was not good. The food presentation was good, but the food itself was dry and overcooked. Everything looked delicious and plated beautifully, but was just disappointing! Unhappy Katsuing!

Franklin C.

Yelp
Got here with an hour to spare and noticed it's partially empty so we know it won't take long to get our order delivered. But I think I should have been more cautious in what to order. Waiter provided free miso which was delicious btw. The seaweed was brittle and broken down but it's paired nicely with the miso. I ordered the buckwheat soba and the Kyoto ramen. The soba was by far the delicious item and perfect for this summer heat. Wish I asked for more wasabi and the broth was just seasoned properly with the green onions. The Kyoto ramen I was expecting highly was a slight disappointment. I didn't see any of the chasu but more like it was soupy base with lots of veggies. I had to dig into the broth and found the pork mostly in pieces. Probably I came too late to get the portions so I got the remaining meats. Then I realize I should have order the waygu and other meats. That's their specialty. Should have gone with that. The wooden and warm light gave a clean ambiance. Restroom is by far one of the cleanest I have seen! I may have to come back but the Kyoto ramen was a no go for me. They did offer split bill options which was nice so redeemed them for their flexibility.

Yelp
Interior and design is modern and nice - this restaurant is located in the corner of the Alhambra Place plaza. Parking lot can get packed - some spots are super compact, especially when people aren't being mindful. If possible, I'd say park further away in the lot and just take the walk over. This is my first time at this location but I've frequent the Kobe Gyukatsu in Buena Park many times! In comparison, I don't think the food here is as good in terms of flavor and quality, and the portion size is also smaller. We ordered: - Haneshita Gyukatsu ($36.95) + Kelp Egg ($3) - Beef Gyukatsu ($26.95) - Beef Tongue Gyukatsu ($36.95) - Cube Steak Don ($14.95) I didn't think the beef tongue was worth the price, and the kelp egg dipping sauce was quite tasteless. I end up preferring the original dipping sauces it came with. Service was great - the staff was definitely busy on a Sunday evening, but they did the best they can and were very nice.

Pam B.

Yelp
Met up with my friend in Alhambra and we decided to eat lunch at this place. The restaurant was clean and bright, has great decor and spacious. We arrived past noon on a Saturday and there were a lot of tables. You can get bowls but if you want to use the heated stoneware range is $20++ for the choices. I ordered the beef gyukatsu and it comes with sides and dipping sauces. I suggest trying the sauces for more flavor. The other meats are more expensive but if you split it and order another dish (bowls or noodles) it'll be great value for 2 people. I'm sure my boys would not split this so definitely depends on your appetite.

Sarah M.

Yelp
I love myself a fatty tender meat with a crunchy crust. The experience of putting each piece of meat on the flat top was fun, it felt like I could be in Japan as it's typically rare to find food like this in LA. The sauces paired so well with the beef, I couldn't get enough of them. The salad could have been better as I felt it was a bit on the soggy side as I normally like a more crunchy cabbage with less watery of a dressing. The cheese gyukatsu really had so much flavor. Highly recommend!

Kenny W.

Yelp
Came here on a craving whim for dinner Wednesday night. We got seated immediately. There was definitely a lot of food for the price. Would definitely come back and try other items on the menu. This is located in the plaza with All that shabu and Sprouts. There's typically parking but it does get pretty busy. Ordered the beef gyukatsu and it comes with a salad, soup, edamame, and rice. The sauces were decent but didn't stand out. It satisfied my craving but need to try the premium gyukatsu next.

Rebecca C.

Yelp
We love the katsu here (you can add curry for $3, which I recommend)! The udon and stone grill meat are also so delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant has a clean, authentic feel to it with quite a bit of seating. The service is also relatively efficient and the servers are friendly. I recommend this restaurant for your next date night or group hang out!

Celine C.

Yelp
Having Kyoto Gyukatsu many times in Japan, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it opened up in Alhambra! I saw mixed reviews here on Yelp, so my expectations were kinda low. Came here on a Sunday with a friend and there was no wait. Restaurant is clean and spacious. I ordered the regular sized Beef Gyukatsu and really liked the quality and quantity of the set. The beef cutlet slices were so tender and juicy after heating on the stone grill, and they went well with the sauces provided. Miso soup, salad, and two small banchan on the side tasted decent too. Food was delicious and servers were extremely attentive. They checked in on us often and relit the stone grill whenever the fire goes out. I'll be back!

Yelp
My family and I went to Kyoto Gyukatsu for a late lunch a couple of weeks ago. We arrived around 2:30pm on a Saturday, which must've been an off-time since there weren't any customers dining. It did make service super quick though! The restaurant is bright and open, and the staff were friendly and quick to place the menus and bowls of miso soup as we sat down. I got the Beef Gyukatsu, which was visually appealing. It came in a tray with an array of side dishes and sauces as well as the hot stone to cook the beef. It was a fun little cooking experience. The beef was tender, had light marbling, and cooked quickly on the hot stone, but the flavor really came from the dipping sauces and side dishes. Of the side dishes, I really liked the pickled veggies. This meal can be very filling for 1 person. If you're trying out Kyoto Gyukatsu, then I recommend getting the Beef Gyukatsu just for the DIY/cooking experience. The restaurant also has a variety of menu items, including lunch specials, but I think you can find a lot of them at other Japanese restaurants.

Katie C.

Yelp
[3.5 stars] Missing Japan after a recent trip so decided to find a spot to cure the craving. Was greeted by a friendly worker and she pointed us to a table. The atmosphere is casual and nice. I appreciated how there was tutorials on the tv screens to teach you how to enjoy the gyukatsu because it was my parent's first time here! Servers were very nice & accommodating too. They offered miso soup appetizers on the house which was nice. There were seaweed & green onions inside as well, but a bit too salty for my taste. Together my bf & I shared two meals. We ordered a Tenderloin Beef Gyukatsu. The waiter recommended the tenderloin so I listened to her! It came with a bowl of rice, cabbage, edamame, spicy pickled radish, 2 sauce dips for the beef, & wasabi on the side. I really enjoyed both dips and they each gave the meat a different flavor profile. One was wasabi-based, other seemed like a soy sauce base? We had a little grill-top where we can cook our beef & it was a fun experience. Meat was tender with nice, crisp edges. I really like it with wasabi. But compared to a beef gyukatsu I had in Japan, the meat quality wasn't as good. Looking back at other Yelp reviews, I would say the premium beef option with better marbling looked more similar to the one I had in Japan. I would be down to try that in the future to see if it's comparable. We also ordered a Creamy Curry Udon, which came with beef bits, broccoli, carrots, and onions. The cream on top seems to be whip cream. I was hoping after mixing it would be more creamy, however, it was disappointing how the curry sauce mixed with cream was more watery than I imagined. Overall, wished the curry texture was more thick so the udon noodles can cling onto more sauce. However, the texture of the udon though was nice & bouncy, which I liked. I also appreciated the amounts of other components such as veggies & meat, but my brother got the same & said he didn't have any meat in his. I wish quality control can be better to ensure everyone can have the an equivalent experience. This dish also came with spicy pickled radishes which was refreshing to eat. Overall, solid concepts of the food, I'm looking forward to the improvements that can be made in the future.

Albert C.

Yelp
On a Sunday afternoon, my family and I made the decision to go to a Japanese restaurant and spend quality time together! There was no wait time at all and the atmosphere was welcoming. Furthermore, the restaurant was a solid 4 stars for me :) I ordered the Udon Creamy Curry & it was yummy. Only thing is that I felt as if the quality could be more richer because I've have had better in the past; however, it wasn't bad at all, just got repetitive and the pickled radish helped with that! Unfortunately my dish doesn't come with meat & you'll have to get it separately and that's what my family and I did. My favorite part of this whole experience was devouring the Beef Gyukatsu. The order of the beef came with a stone grill, so you can cook the meat yourself. In addition, it came with a side of edamame, rice, pickled radish, and shredded cabbage w/ a sauce. You won't be disappointed if you try the Beef Gyukatsu, trust!

Lisa C.

Yelp
I've been here several times..in large groups, in small groups, alone, take out - only positive vibes. If I'm craving katsu, this is the place I think of. I've tried their pork and chicken cutlets on several occasion and they've never disappointed. Also, I love all the small sides that come with it. The cabbage salad, the spicy pickles, the miso soup- all delicious and very asthetic. While I'm not a huge fan of udon (in general) I do think their cream curry udon is solid. In was surprised at how much I enjoyed the flavors.

Michael G.

Yelp
Stopped in a 6 sharp on a Thursday and was able to get a quick seat. Things did fill up while we were there. Ordered the Haneshita Gyukatsu, "Deep fried prime beef chuck flap steak cutlet", which came with rice, a cabbage salad, and several condiments. The meat was great quality, although do note that it's not salted, so you're gonna want to dip in in one of the sauces for flavor. Also ordered the Spicy Chicken Cream Fried Noodles. Also a good dish, although that's to be expected--the SGV is noodle heaven. The beef gyukatsu was the star of the night, and that's what I'll get again when I go back.

Brian C.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this spot for a while, the last few times we walked by was a crazy line! "makes you want to try even more" We aren't ones to wait though I called ahead for an early sunday dinner 5:25 pm or so there was only 3 people in there so we out in the open the pork cheese katsu "roll" it was really good super cheesy with that drip if you know what I mean my wife got the basic katsu she couldn't finish the portion was pretty good the cup of curry probably wasn't necessary for $3.00 but I like multiple dipping situations would probably want to go if theres no line employees were great and also it was very very clean decor was pretty cool maybe if it was later we would get some alcoholic bevvys

Yelp
I have had Kyoto Gyukatsu bookmarked for some time now but I forgotten about it until my boyfriend brought it up as one of the options for lunch. I clearly opted to come here for lunch that day. Parking in this plaza can be crowded, but there is a parking structure in the back if you don't mind walking a bit. As we approached there was a decent amount of outdoor umbrella covered seating, but it was so windy no one was sitting outside. They also have a decent amount of tables inside. The décor was really cute modern and whimsical. We decided to share a Beef Gyukatsu Set ($24.95), the Kelp Egg ($2.50) dipping sauce, and a Cream Curry Udon ($13.95). The beef gyukatsu set came with rice, salad, miso soup, edamame, pickled veggies and delicious dipping sauces. There was tableside mini stove to cook the beef, which seems like a gimmick. I think I would pretty just normal beef without the katsu layer. The kelp egg dipping sauce was nice but I actually like the sauces the set comes with more. The Cream Curry Udon was really thick and rich. The first few bites were amazing but I don't think I could have eaten a whole bowl of this by myself. Good thing we shared. Also I had to ask staff for a spoon. By the time I was able to wave someone down, I was mostly done with my meal. I feel like this dish should have came with spoons to begin with. Service was on the slow side. Considering they weren't that busy, I'm not sure why it was so hard to get some service. A training opportunity for management. A fun spot to try but I'm not sure it's a spot I would frequent.

Yelp
Pork Katsu please. Delicious. Good sized pork steak with nice serving of cabbage salad. I love the little banchan side dishes and curry sauce on the side. Creamy curry udon - nice presentation. tastes very good. Udon was nice and chewy. Snowy Cheese Flakes Gyukatsu - MUST order. this was so delicious, juicy, cheesy and flavorful.

Yelp
TLDR: 3-3.5 stars. It was supposed to be a premium Japanese restaurant with premium pricing. What I got was average food with premium pricing, which is a massive turnoff. Premium Gyukatsu: The marbling looked promising but things went downhill after that. All I could taste was the batter and I lost all the beefy taste that I was looking for. Paying a premium for something that looks premium but doesn't taste premium destroys the purpose of the food. Our tiny griller wasn't working properly so we couldn't even get a proper crust on both sides of the Gyukatsu. I was frankly disappointed. Beef rib w/ Dumpling soup: The beef rib was falling off the bone which is very good. The meat tasted average to above average which is good. However, the dumpling tasted almost exactly like a Bibigo bulgogi gyoza. Given the case, it's hard for me to ignore that the restaurant just bought their dumplings off the shelf. The soup was also tasting something that I could get from a store, but I will give this one the benefit of the doubt. Cream Curry Udon: Best thing in the meal. It's a simple concept that delivered. Udon in curry sauce that was thickened with cream. Curry tasted good and the rest followed suit. Miso soup (unlimited): It's free bottomless miso soup. I'm not gonna complain. It's decent and something you should get multiple refills of. Service: Pretty good. We arrived early so we were taken care of. Service got a bit spotty once dinner rush came, but I understand why. Ambiance: The restaurant is beautiful. It looks modern Japanese, and the chairs feel good to sit on. The area where the restaurant is is pretty good too.

Yelp
Just had a great meal here. Was it the best I've had, no. But they do have unique dishes that I'd love to comeback and try. They are obviously known for their Gyukatsu though I'd say just get the Ribeye instead because it is a larger portion. I got the Spicy Creamy Chicken Noodles which were good. I'd say get the Curry Cream ones instead because I liked those better when I tasted my friend's order of it. I also got the tempura. Not my favorite tempura because they don't use a batter really. It's more that it's breaded with panko which is fine too but it made it a lot heavier than a normal tempura batter. So instead of tempura, it just ended up tasting like a an inion ring. Both are good, just not what I was expecting. My mom ordered the cube steak which she really enjoyed. My other family members really enjoyed their Gyukatsu dishes. Though, the general consensus was that you should just go ahead and get the premium set. Also, get the kelp egg because it made the meat taste even better. Not sure if this is how you do it, but we all realized that before you put the meat on the hot stone, dip it in the dark sauce first so that you get even better carmelization and flavor. Parking can be a little tough on the weekends so just beware. You shouldn't have a problem with getting a table at the restaurant though.

Yelp
Nice addition to Alhambra where you can get rare quickly fried beef at all levels with various prices to finish off on the hot stone on your table. Also lots of udon and pasta plus regular tonkatsu and some curry dishes. Selection of Shoju and beer too. Plenty of parking in large shopping center lot. I'd give this place a 5 star but the food was a bit saltier than expected but all good still.

Yelp
I went to visit my friends in 626 and we decided to get dinner here. We came at 6:30/7pm and expected it to be busy, however it was pretty empty for a Wednesday summer night. The place smelled wonderful and we decided to share dishes to be able to try a little bit of everything. We got the beef gyukatsu, the pork cutlet with a curry side and a spicy chicken cream fried noodle. All the dishes were pretty good, my favorite being the beef gyukatsu. There were several options on the menu for the quality of beef, and my friends and I, doing girl math, opted for the cheapest option. Even though it was a cheaper option, the beef was still so tender and had a very sweet and meaty flavor profile. This dish came with a stone top that we grilled the meat on, which is definitely a fun experience and a must get at this restaurant. The pork cutlet had a good texture and was a filling portion. My least favorite was the cream noodles. They were not too creamy, had a good taste and spicy level to it but it was too filling and a bigger portion than it looks, which can get tiring to eat (bored of the flavor). Overall really yummy place to eat for quick service and yummy food!

Yelp
It was very interesting! Cabbage salad, miso soup, rice, sauces and tsukemono were good. Service was ok, except the grills were tiny and kept running out of fuel. They don't have any plates, only bowls... I guess the tray is supposed to suffice. Food was ok... parking was a little hard

Yelp
I've been to the Los Angeles location and had a couple items like their katsu and creamy udon. I decided that at this location to try out their curry beef udon. I just want to say that when I went, around 12pm, there wasn't that many people. The curry beef noodles may also splatter so protect your shirt. The curry beef was pretty deep in flavor. I would say it has a distinct Japanese curry flavor and combined with the perfectly cooked udon, it's a match made in heaven. Their chicken karage was also really good too, nice and crispy but I wish they were a bit bigger. The stir kimchi udon, I got to-go and that was actually amazing. I wish I had got that instead of the curry beef udon. It has a nice kimchi flavor mixed with the cream, it just has a balance of spiciness. This is a great lunch spot to go out with someone and you can walk on over to the numerous shops surrounding the area!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I were really excited to try this place since it reminded us of our time in Japan. The food was good but not great. The highlight of our meal was the cold soba. The noodles had a great texture to them and the dipping sauce paired very well. There was just enough amount of wasabi, radish and green onions. The ramen was alright for us. We've definitely had better ramen and much less salty. The egg was probably the highlight of our ramen bowl. I love the toppings but it doesn't get much better than that since the broth was quite salty. Our premium gyukatsu was also just okay in flavor. The meat comes precooked and breaded (hence the "katsu"). You get to cook as well done or as rare as you want. The breading on the exterior gives it a nice texture to the silkiness of the meat. Even though we cooked the meat to a medium/well done temp it still tastes really chewy. Service came fast but they only stopped by the table once so I was left thirsty through our meal as it was a bit difficult to flag someone down.

Yelp
This was insanely average. I was disappointed because I was so excited to try a Gyukatsu in the states. The main thing is, this spot is very clearly Korean-owned, so the preparation of the rice and meats is wildly different than what you would actually find in Kyoto (or Kobe, where this style of cutlet originated). The creamy curry udon was good and I would come back for that, but I would not get the gyukatsu again. The sauces it comes with taste wrong. Don't expect anything remotely close to what you would find in Japan.

Yelp
This spot is a great spot to eat at in the sgv. They have a lunch menu that keeps things more economical but also has items if you are feeling fancy. I would admit that this spot does not feel the most authentic but flavors are all there. Their karage and gyukatsu were all solid. They have a wasabi sauce that was my favorite. In regards to service and ambiance they were very attentive to our needs. I would definitely come back here

Yelp
My family came here for dinner on a Friday night, which didn't seem too busy. We got seated right away for 5 people. I was most excited to try their Cream Curry Udon, which was definitely worth getting! Love the flavor of the curry and the texture of the udon noodles. We also got the Chicken and Pork Katsu, as well as, the Premium and Beef Gyukatsu. The beef seemed fresh and was really tender. Would definitely come back again to try more of the menu!

Yelp
Came here on Christmas Day for dinner and got seated away. I ordered one of my favorites here: snowy cheesy flakes gyukatsu. Love the melted cheese on top of the beef and the sauce is super flavorful (a little bit sweet and a little bit savory - hard to describe so you have to try it)! I also love that the crust of the beef is a little bit caramelized so it's a little crunchy! Love the texture! It also comes with cabbage salad, potato salad, miso soup, rice, and a side of radish. Super filling overall! There's a parking lot right next to the restaurant that is in a shared plaza. This place sometimes gets packed so if there's a line, just write your name down on the clipboard that's by the door.

Yelp
Back again for their yummy Cream Curry Udon. We came right before the dinner rush and were seated immediately. Staff members were pleasant and the food was delicious. In addition to the curry udon, we also had the Mazemen (tasty!) and tried the Haneshita Gyukatsu (yum).

Yelp
Came to celebrate a birthday and we were excited to try this restaurant because the hot plates looked cool, but realized that there were a few faults. 2/4 of the party burned our hands on the hot plates - the fact that they're just sitting in the middle of the table made it easy to forget they were there (luckily the staff had burn ointment prepared). Cooking the meat also splashed fat and oil around, as the hot plate doesn't have a drain of any sort. We ordered the Beef Gyukatsu, which is the raw beef in a crispy fried outer crust for $25. The meat was just okay, not as soft and tender as I expected. I probably should've upgraded to the $35 one for the better quality. The beef tongue was really good, but for a set being $35, it was still underwhelming. For the price, it is definitely more worth it to go to AYCE KBBQ. The whipped curry udon looked really cool and the cream made it fluffy once mixed. Tasted pretty good but nothing really special. The price was reasonable at $12. Service was great and they brought us everything we asked for. They had to keep restarting our flame when it died out, so they were attentive and very friendly.

Yelp
Came with some co workers to get some good food. Definitely recommend to get creamy curry upon, it's creamy, nice texture of udon noodle. It was very delicious with curry. Haneshita katsu is interesting to say the least. I initially did not like it, but started liking it towards the end. Need the skin to be crispy to enjoy the chuck meat with it.

Yelp
Parking: Easy, open, free lot. I ordered the beef gyukatsu, the cold tofu, and mazemen. The beef gyukatsu was good but nothing special, in my opinion. Fried on the outside and heated up in front of you to your liking, it's a nice touch but not a must-try. The cold tofu was possibly my favorite. It was flavorful and refreshing, almost like a soba broth with seaweed on top. The mazemen was also very good. It was dry, not overly greasy, with a generous amount of toppings. I don't think I would come back unless someone I know wanted to try it.

Yelp
My experience here was spectacular. The food was good, the service was extremely friendly and non-rushed, and parking was not difficult to obtain in the adjacent lot. Half the available customer seating is cushioned, the other half is not. The overall decor and lighting of the restaurant are easy on the eyes. The menu has items available for every budget - $10.95 for a bowl of Tempura Shrimp Udon to $129.95 for Miyzazaki Wagyu A5 Rib Eye. I'll be back!

Yelp
Not bad not great! My bf and I ordered the beef gyukatsu and wanted to get the cheese cutlet but they were out of it and recommended the spicy pork cutlet instead. The beef gyukatsu was good and as expected but the spicy pork cutlet was a huge disappointment. The beef gyukatsu was tender and all the accompaniments were good, although the portion for this order was quite small. The spicy pork cutlet was drenched in a sweet red Korean sauce, like what you could expect when ordering dukbokki at a Korean restaurant. The sweet red sauce drowned the flavor of everything else and I was disappointed in this recommendation as a replacement for the cheese cutlet.

Yelp
The menu is fairly extensive, including lunch specials. I had either Kyoto Ramen or Mara Ramen (can't recall) of which I'm not a fan because of the herbal taste. However, Spicy K-BBQ Don was very tasty. The best dish of the meal was Tofu Salad. It was ginormous & very fresh. Service was pretty good when we sat inside. When we returned for an outside table, it took forever to get a menu, likely because they were understaffed. This time we tried Chicken Curry Udon which was pretty good but it was my second choice since the seafood one wasn't available again. Hubby had Pork Cutlet which came in a generous amount & was well done. As for the Tempura, listed as an appetizer, had 1 or maybe 2 shrimps, but vegetable pieces were abundant. The batter was a bit on the heavy side, but it was still pretty good. I would recommend this place as it has a little of everything.

Yelp
Ordered a katsu and creamy udon. I wouldn't recommend the udon as I felt like that was more gimmick than actual culinary ingenuity. The cream was slightly off putting to the whole experience and was not needed. The Katsu was actually quite delicious and I'd recommend ordering that and having the experience of grilling your meat on the slab. It was a clean space with fairly average service where I didn't really have any complaints. I'd come back.
