Yakult Ladies Are an Icon in Japan | Eater

"In 1931, Dr. Minoru Shirota invented the sweet, milk-based probiotic at Kyoto University, formulating it from his own lactobacillus strain—Lacticaseibacillus casei called Shirota—designed to promote a healthy digestive tract, quality sleep, and immunity; that halo of health still surrounds the brand today and continues to shape how people and even medical researchers connect Yakult to wellness." - Nina Li Coomes

From a tourist’s perspective, the campus grounds is quite boring - very plain, monotonous buildings that look like they’ve stood the test of time. Still, the campus looks very conducive for students, and has some of the important amenities like convenient stores, baseball grounds, swimming pools, cateria, etc.

My brief visit to Kyoto University left a lasting impression. The campus seamlessly blends tradition and innovation, offering a glimpse into its rich academic heritage. Despite the short duration, I could sense the vibrant intellectual atmosphere and the university's commitment to excellence. From its diverse academic programs to its strong community ties, Kyoto University stands as a beacon of academic achievement. For anyone seeking a glimpse into Japan's prestigious academic landscape, a visit to Kyoto University is a must.

Because Kyoto University is one of the top public universities for the elite students, University campus does have its beauty and other indications of its long academic history. While it is a policy for Japan government NOT to promote college or university campus as tour attractions even for its own citizens, college campus is seldom marked as tour attractions for the foreign tourists. But if tourists can lower their voice and manage their behaviors, it is generally OK to visit college campus in Japan. And, certainly, Kyoto University's campus is worthy of visit for its natural beauty, especially lots of tall green trees and academic buildings with history, even though most of these buildings are simply plain with brick building structures. Kyoto University campus has many location maps and signs on the corner of many roads, and maps generally show buildings with Numbers and whether the buildings are handicapped access or other functions, such as bathrooms. The University does have campus walking map [English version] for the visitors, and it is below- https://www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/sites/default/files/inline-files/2022-kumap-eg-9f6b392eb51fea4a0bf6ac06cf1a15df.pdf Campus has cafeterias and cafes which are open for students, but also open for the visitors. For Kyoto University, the cafe at its main campus seems to open from afternoon hours, and that is a drawback for the visitors and probably also for students who want to take a break. For Kyoto University, its Yoshida Residence is also worthy short visiting, because of its old wood building and because of its court -fight history for resident student’s right. Also, University Capus Wall does show liberal campus atmosphere for student activities on student organization and protests and social involvements.

I went to school here back in 2016 and it's still one of the best experiences I've ever had. Kyoto University was a wonderful place to learn Japanese culture, meet new friends and the field trips they held were some of my most treasured memories. Thank you Kyodai, glad I came back to visit even just for a bit.

The KU main campus is located in Yoshida, whereas two more are in Katsura and Uji city. Yoshida campus have most students activities and feels so lively, also mention the iconic clock tower and the huge tree as the university’s most popular landmarks. As a student here, I would give a 9/10 in total for my whole experience, there’s so many helpful people and supports for international students!

Along with Tokyo university, Kyoto university is the most famous university in Japan. Though it is one of the highest academic research facilities, it is also known for its independent and freedom attitude towards everything... sometimes chaotic. Those who know how to do academic research, this university must be like a heaven.

I am a PHD student in Kyoto University. If anyone has an opportunity to study in Kyoto University, please don’t hesitate to start. It is in the first 50 Universities worldwide, many Nobel prices belonged to some professors. Really I enjoyed studying here😊😊😊

Yelp
Most people think that this is one of the best university in Japan, but I suppose it is the oddest university in Japan. For example, the season of an entrance examination, around the end of February, you can see the strange statue made by some students. It named Dr. Orita's statue, and always modeled a kind of animation character. Dr. Orita was the first president of this university, it's very strange and funny. Around the university, there are a lot of signboards insist the students' opinion. But most of them are very eccentric, they are like 1970s student movement. I was a student of this university and felt they were really free from everything. Everyone can enter the university and use the restaurants in this university. If you want to feel Japanese university culture, it is the best place for you.

Yelp
I envied the students of this university which boasts a vast ground of campus unlike the one I graduated from. In my college days, I had lunch in this campus, which was reasonable price and fashionable. I had lots of acquaintances who are alumni of this university. They are playing leading parts of various fields. One, assistant professor of the associated institution. Another national public servant. My favorite novelist, T.M. is also alumni, whose stories are largely on the stage of Kyoto. I feel the alumnus of this university are generally unique and characteristic. It is convinced that most winners of the Novel Prize come from this university. I often saw a man climbing the stone wall of the campus like rock climbing, who was so outstanding as to attract pedestrians' eyes.
