"Since its founding in 1940, this shop has been in the same family for four generations. The flavour of the dashi is drawn from Rishiri kombu and several types of dried fish flakes. The delicate, thin noodles go well with the broth, giving the bowl a sense of harmony. The ‘kitsune’, prepared with chopped, deep-fried tofu slices and Kujo leek, is a standard menu item. The ‘shippoku’, dressed with kamaboko (steamed fish paste), shiitake and yuba, is what Kyoto udon is all about." - Michelin Inspector

First, let me tell you that I don't really love curry. A masochist, me? Let me tell you more about this lunch adventure, baby. So... Throwing whimsical soba noodles inside magmatic curry to trap my French little mouth to eat it quick, looking down on the laws of nature in the process (what's too hot stays out of you, son)? Meh, let's just say that this one night stand of a culinary story was like welcoming the Vesuvesus on my roman tongue, sweetie! But the battered shrimp on top of that orgy of flavours was the real deal, and I think that you should insert some of that Japanese galore deep within you, if you read this... Please? And thank you! Now order a bunch of stuff there already!! Arigato gozaimasssu. These four stars of glory were well earned!

Main dish are Udon and Soba. But the flavor is very good and worth to try.. Tempura very testy. I recommend you to try Nabe(hotpot)😊

Best tempura I’ve had in Kyoto this time. I have tried several places before, but 岡北has the best. Very very fresh shrimp and vegetables with thin outside tempura layers. I even ordered one more tempura side. I like their thicken soup too. The egg is very smooth and the hint of ginger is tasty, (though it’s summer now, better to try it again in winter haha).I’ve read some comments saying that the service was not good. I quite understand that waiting for a long time really kills patience and moods. I came here at 3pm which was neither dinner nor lunchtime so I only waited for five minutes. And I came in, I felt staff were nice and helpful. The price is reasonable and the food are outstanding, so please don’t only look at the low-point comments. Try this place yourself.

Fantastic comfort food and fast service. We had the egg soup udon with tofu and the donburi (rice bowl) with mixed tempura. The donburi rice had a splash of delicious dashi and in both dishes all the flavours were well balanced. Would definitely come back!

After visiting the Heian temple, we found this place along the street and saw good reviews. It is currently under a scaffolding, but it's still open. The ambience is very nice inside with the modern wooden look and there's a garden in the back. I ordered the egg soup udon with mushroom and the egg was fluffy adding a nice texture but did not add much to the taste. The vegetables and the noodles themselves tasted fresh. The chicken udon was very normal and the broth was a little too salty for me. Overall a great experience because we had no wait and the dining experience was great.

We came here because we couldnt reserve seats at Yamamoto but it didn't disappoint!! There was still a long queue here and we waited for about 30-45 minutes. They have English menu so do ask for it. They would take your order while you are queuing so you dont have to wait a long while after seated. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy. We ordered the cold udon and soba. The udon and soba are way more chewy when served cold. The savouriness of the soba dipping sauce was just on point. However, the tempura was crispy but too oily, maybe the oil temperature was too low. You cant share tables and often times there are just two people at a four seat table while there only being around 8-10 tables in the whole shop so that explains the long queue outside as the actual occupancy is only around 60% of the total seats. The female shopkeeper is very polite and the overall service is very nice.

I was recommended by a local to this udon store and this store’s udon is HANDS DOWN the best udon I have had travelling in Japan thus far! I came back here to have one more bowl before I leave for Osaka and it is definitely a place I will miss dearly. Strongly recommend Tentoji udon! The soup was so tasty and fluffy with eggs, and the udon was soft and slurpy together with the crunch from the tempura - simply divine. Do note that they only accept cash, and might have a queue if you head there during lunchtime.

Delicious udon and soba noodles! Well worth the wait in the queue for lunch. Incredibly efficient service; our orders were taken whilst in the queue so once we had a table we were served our food right away! The curry tofu udon and prawn tempura soba were very tasty and filling. The local sodas (plum and Yuzu) were a great addition.
