I had an overall good time at Kyuramen, but there are definitely a few things I feel could be improved on to make it a better experience.
Pros:
I absolutely love the private dining booths that they have. They have some open seating for about five or six tables and then about four or five private booths that have curtains and call buttons on the inside. They seat about three to four and I think that really gave us a great private dining experience Where we thought we could let loose and have open conversation even though this is a smaller restaurant space.
The food overall is good. I did enjoy the crispy tonkatsu ramen that I got with curry. I think the flavors were really well developed and I also like the chiashu pork ramen. I found that the curry ramen came out room temperature which wasn't the best, it has a thicker broth. The regular ramens came out piping hot with thinner broths and they were pretty good!
There is a nice variety of appetizers to choose from, and they do have a variety of ramens to choose from as well. One of my favorite things were the crispy gyozas! They had a really nice flavor in the meat and the sauce that accompanied it was a good flavor.
The staff was nice and attentive, especially given that we were in a private booth.
Cons:
The menu is a little unclear for many of the dishes. There were a lot of ramens to choose from but many had the same ingredients so it was a little hard to tell what the small differences were based on the menu descriptions. We ordered the pork belly and it was okay. It wasn't noted that it's served as a cold dish so that was a little disappointing. There's a large menu page showing these amazing cakes they have, but they do not in fact have these cakes. We were told they've never had the cakes but they just printed the menu like that, so that was also a little disappointing.
I feel the price is a little high in comparison to the food quality. The ramen was good but not great in comparison to other ramen I've had in the suburbs and city. We got the combo which came with a drink of either tea or lemonade and a bao bun each but the meat in the buns was a little tough and overall they were a one note flavor. The lemonade itself was delicious but the Thai tea was not made the traditional way with coconut milk, it's made with whole milk. That's also not communicated, but we happened to ask because I had another stop after the restaurant and didn't want my stomach to turn into Cirque du Soleil lol. I could be overreaching but it seems like for the price there were ingredients missing that would have really set the meal off.
Overall it was a decent meal. I did enjoy the curry ramen because I love everything curry but I can't say that I loved anything here enough to come back and for the price. It was about $75 for two ramen combos, which come with a bao bun and a drink and we ordered 2 additional lemonades (they are $5 or $6 each, no free refills on any of the drinks). I think it's definitely worth a try for the experience and the private dining but I was hungry about an hour later so, if you've got a bigger appetite this may not be the best place to go for your dinner. If you've got a smaller appetite and really want great ramen you have other options, but this is just my opinion so I say give them a shot and see how you like it personally.
